Kane looked at Harry and Ron's completely different opinions and felt that neither of them was very informative. Just then, a reliable adult appeared out of nowhere.
“Old Maxwell, what’s up?” Kane looked at Maxwell.
“Professor Snape is a serious and aloof person. If he didn’t have designs on you, he wouldn’t have bothered to talk to you at all. After all, he’s avoiding you as much as he can with your performance in Potions class,” Maxwell explained.
Kane, understanding the unspoken meaning, immediately realized: "I have something he needs, but he's too proud to ask me directly. So he pointed out that the giant spider I killed was Hagrid's pet, giving me a reason to ask him for help. After all, if he said that, he must have a way, and then we can make an equal deal."
"So what he needs..." Kane looked at the remaining spider web in his hand: "It's not these things, is it?"
"Kane, what's wrong?" Harry asked Kane, who was suddenly lost in thought. Kane quickly recovered and shook his head. "Nothing, I need to talk to Professor Snape. You guys go ahead and do your work. Remember to bring me some food."
With that, Kane knocked on the door of the Potions classroom.
Harry and Ron's lips twitched at the sight. Kane used to stay after Charms, Transfiguration, and Defense Against the Dark Arts classes to get extra help from the professors.
And now, Kane, who turns Potions class into a cooking class, still couldn't resist and reached out his claws to Snape.
"I bet Snape was furious."
"I bet he'll be so angry he'll skip Potions class next week."
Harry and Ron left the corridor in a coordinated manner, and the door to the Potions classroom opened just as they were doing so.
It looked as if Snape had been eavesdropping inside and only opened the door after Harry and Ron had left.
"Is there a problem, Mr. Heath?" Snape appeared in the room and asked Kane in a low voice.
"Professor, help me!" Kane didn't play games with Snape. Believing that sincerity was the ultimate weapon, he played his cards straight and took out the spider web in his hand: "I won't let you help me for nothing! I'll give you a present, consider it an early Christmas."
Snape had anticipated this, but he still hadn't expected Kane to go straight for the chase without any pretense...
Although I wasn't used to it, it was surprisingly easy and not tiring at all.
"Yes, come in." Snape opened the door and let Kane in.
"Would you like me to make you a cup of tea?" Snape asked, half-politely and half-jokingly, while remaining seated, his eyes fixed on the spiderweb Kane had placed on his desk tray.
"Green tea is fine, thank you."
Snape: "......"
Despite remaining silent, he still waved his wand and used magic to brew Kane a pot of green tea.
"Professor, I killed a whole bunch of giant spiders in the Forbidden Forest. I didn't know they were Hagrid's pets. What's your plan?" Kane asked, taking a sip of his green tea and looking troubled.
"How did you find those spiders?" Snape asked quietly.
"The spider silk ball Hagrid gave me."
"So you didn't even consider where Hagrid got that spider silk ball from?" Snape rolled his eyes at Kane, a clear indication of his Gryffindor status.
"I thought it was just a regular wayfinding tool. Professor, do you have any ideas?" Kane asked, scratching his face somewhat awkwardly.
"Ahem." Snape stared intently at the spiderweb on the tray, his meaning all too clear.
Kane didn't hesitate either; he emptied most of the spider webs from his pockets and piled them up on the tray, forming a small mountain.
Snape pulled the tray back with satisfaction: "The properties of this material are remarkably similar to the slime secreted by groundbats. Although your potion-making skills are appalling, your amazing ability is still quite useful for potions and alchemical materials."
“Then, Professor, what should I do?” Kane asked.
"Is Aragog still alive? The biggest spider?" Snape asked deliberately, because a young wizard like Kane, who was steeped in dark magic from birth, might have a chance of succeeding if he didn't intend to observe from the outside but instead chose to break through the massive number of spiders and kill Aragog.
Now he needs to know if Aragok is still alive. If he is, all he needs to do is give Aragok an amnesia potion. After all, Aragok is the only spider in the entire octopus spider colony that can talk, and most of the professors do the same thing whenever they need a part of a spider's body or its venom.
And if he dies...
Hmm, well, we already have the spider web, right?
Kane gestured with his hand: "Is it an old, frighteningly large spider? If so, it's still alive."
Snape was satisfied with the answer: "Hagrid visits his friends in the Forbidden Forest at the end of each month. He just went this month, so all you need to do is give Aragog a bottle of amnesia potion at the end of next month."
Kane scratched his head: "Is it that simple?" Then he subconsciously reached out his hand.
"Come back in two weeks to pick it up, because I needed some Octopod venom recently, so my stock has run out," Snape explained.
“Alright then, there’s still plenty of time.” Kane nodded, not at all bothered by how to feed the potion into Aragog’s mouth.
After all, he only needs four more rabbits to make a spirit particle decomposer. Then he can use mandrake to make panpipes that can hypnotize other creatures. He can solve this seemingly difficult problem with just a gentle blow.
Now it's time to move on to the next task. He smiled and looked at Snape: "Professor, I remember you have a few rabbits here for testing medicine, right?"
“It’s in the corner, go get it yourself.” Snape said, then picked up the tray and went back to his office inside the classroom to study the spider webs, while Kane walked step by step toward the poor little rabbits.
Soon, Kane had five rabbits stuffed into his pocket. Just as he was about to leave, he turned back to Snape and asked, "By the way, Professor, do you know what Hagrid likes?"
Why are you asking this?
Kane covered the two bouncy pockets with both hands and chuckled awkwardly, "I feel a little guilty, but this is just a gift."
“He liked any creature that ordinary people found terrifying or ugly, as long as it could move,” Snape said succinctly.
Thank you!
Gryffindor Tower...
Harry and Ron pushed open the door and saw Kane's back. They were about to raise the food they had packed for him when they froze again.
The two looked at the huge machine, shaped like a hat, standing in the corner of the dormitory, and scratched their heads in surprise: "What is this thing?"
Kane turned around, gnawing on a roasted rabbit: "That machine... I call it... the Spirit Particle Decomposer!"
Chapter 46 Hagrid's Gift
"What's the use of this thing?" Ron looked at the spirit particle decomposer and took off his top hat. "Could my hat be made into a machine like this?"
"It really can, but it's not very useful for me right now." Kane scratched his head awkwardly. The spirit particle decomposer could make many important items, such as flesh sculptures that could revive people, but he had never died before, so he could only make them and put them in the cabinet. If he ever found a use for them, he would have made a profit.
A panpipe that can hypnotize other creatures. I don't have mandrakes right now, but I'll ask Dumbledore for two another day. A solo instrument that can hypnotize most creatures and turn them into your friends. I don't have gold or pigskin.
In short, these days, aside from the flesh statue, everything else is incredibly difficult to obtain, even the highly cost-effective Shadow Armor and Shadow Blade...
Wait, no, these two can be done!
Both Shadow Armor and Shadow Blade only require Nightmare Fuel, Living Wood, and Papyrus, which are actually the easiest items for me to obtain right now.
Thinking of this, Kane quickly took off his top hat and pulled his bed out of the tent.
"What is he doing now?" Ron asked, somewhat bewildered by the scene.
“You know, from the first day I met Kane, I thought he was crazy.” Ha pointed to his head, spun it twice, and then shrugged, giving off a strange feeling, as if he were caring for a mental patient.
Next Monday...
Kane sat up in a daze, his shadows flashing as he almost instantly killed several shadow monsters that were chasing him.
I don't know if it was because I wore flower wreaths and top hats and ate all sorts of delicious food that my sanity level was raised to a very high level. I spent a whole week learning magic without restoring my sanity level before I was able to lower it to a level where I could be touched by physical shadow monsters.
As for the living wood, he had prepared it well in advance. In addition, he spent the past week learning magic, gathering various raw materials, and asking each professor what Hagrid liked, although by the time Hagrid went to see Aragog the next time, Aragog would most likely have lost his memory.
However, he still felt a little guilty about what he had done, and he still had to find a way to secretly send Hagrid a gift as compensation.
And now...
Kane picked up the scattered nightmare fuel, woke up Harry and Ron who were fast asleep, and took them to breakfast. The gift he bought for Hagrid should have arrived by now, and if they went late, they might get surrounded by other classmates.
"Is it really worth it to get up so early just for breakfast? I remember there were no classes today." Ron sat drowsily in his seat, while Harry on the other side was equally listless, mechanically stuffing food into his mouth.
Kane, watching the owls getting closer and closer outside the skylight of Hogwarts Great Hall, felt a little relieved; since the delivery wasn't late, he wouldn't complain.
Apart from Kane, Harry and Ron felt that the huge pile of packages had nothing to do with them and were just symbolically protecting the food in front of them. However, Harry's actions were obviously unnecessary, because a long, rectangular package was practically being smashed over his head.
Harry glanced at the owl with a hint of resentment, but when he saw the note on the package, he instantly perked up and pulled Kane and Ron to leave.
"I have another package, what's wrong with you?" Kane looked at Harry in surprise. What package could make him so excited?
“A flying broomstick! A brand new flying broomstick, Professor McGonagall gave it to me!” Harry whispered. Ron jumped up, “Really? Let’s go!”
Harlow and his companion hurriedly returned to their dormitory with their packages. Kane was still waiting for his package. After most of the packages in the auditorium had been claimed, a small squad of owls finally flew in, carrying their packages and looking unsteady.
"We've finally arrived." Kane took out his wand, used the Levitation Charm to retrieve the huge package, and left the Great Hall with it, arriving at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. This place was secluded and easier to do anything.
He opened the package, inside was a sleeping yak calf. He allowed his own shadow to seep into the calf's body, turning it into a baby calf.
After all, just imagining Hagrid's massive physique paired with a grown-up bull is a wonderful thought, and he should like this gift.
Before receiving this gift, he felt too embarrassed to visit Hagrid, always feeling that he had let Hagrid down.
It feels like you're using an honest man's money to support a mistress, only to find out that the mistress is the honest man's long-lost younger sister. It gives you that feeling of wanting to fall into a freefall, like you don't want to take the stairs or the elevator.
"Hey? Kane? Long time no see. By the way, how did your chat with Aragog go?" Hagrid had just finished his meal in the Great Hall and returned to his cabin when he saw Kane, with his dog lurking around nearby.
"Ah, I think that's a very good start. By the way, this is a gift for you. Take a look and see if you like it?" Kane chuckled and changed the subject, gesturing for Hagrid to look at the sleeping cow in the package.
Hearing this, Hagrid walked over out of curiosity. He looked down and saw a little calf that looked no different from a dwarf nut at first glance. It had long, brownish-brown fur all over its body, round legs, and a very honest-looking little face.
"Oh, this little thing looks so cute. Is it a special magical creature?" The moment Hagrid saw the calf, even his voice softened, and he radiated a maternal glow.
"I guess so. This is something I created, similar to a tree person. Do you like it? It will grow bigger in the future, until it's about the size of your house. If you like it, I'll give it to you."
Kane knew Hagrid's current aesthetic: big is beautiful, strong is cute, so he slightly exaggerated the size of the adult bull.
“Oh, perhaps this is a bit too precious,” Hagrid said hesitantly.
“Then I’ll just have to take it back and barbecue it.” Kane said, pretending to take the cow away, but Hagrid, upon hearing this, quickly changed his mind: “I love precious gifts, thank you Kane, I like it very much.”
Hagrid carefully cradled the calf in his arms, saying, "I'll call him... Walnut."
"Hmm, maybe it's because of the color. Anyway, I'm glad you like this little calf. I still need to go back and study my Shadow Blade and Shadow Armor. The materials are all ready, and I can finally practice them."
Kane said he was about to return to Hogwarts Castle.
"Hey? Won't you come in and sit down? I haven't seen you much this week," Hagrid said, scratching his head.
"No, thank you." Kane still seemed a little guilty towards Hagrid, then suddenly remembered something: "By the way, Hagrid, remember not to keep Walnuts in your room, because they grow very quickly, sometimes you might wake up and he's..."
Kane placed his hands in front of his chest and then suddenly expanded them, as if gesturing for a large balloon.
"I understand, thank you Kane." Hagrid waved to Kane while holding the walnuts in one hand, and Kane quickened his pace upon seeing this.
Ah! You dead leg, hurry up and get out of here! Seeing Hagrid like this makes me feel like a beast even more!
Soon, Kane steered his dead leg back to the dormitory, where he saw Harry and Ron flying steadily at low altitude on a magnificent broomstick.
When Harry saw Kane return, he quickly called out to him, "Kane, come on up! This is a Nimbus II, the newest and best broom ever. I can hardly believe how stable it is!"
