Conan, I'm an actor
Page 26
That was his goal: to let Conan know Gin's real name, and then use the Metropolitan Police Department to give Gin some fun. After all, he committed murder on his own turf; if he didn't do something, this guy would really think he was made of clay.
"And then? Then the hospital where this guy worked was shut down, all his residences were searched, and the police even found his two favorite Beretta rifles." Pisco stroked his beard. "He's committed too many murders before. Although the evidence has been cleared, he's still mentioned in the testimonies of eyewitnesses... You couldn't have done this, could you?"
Pisco quickly thought of Vermouth's disguise skills. If Vermouth was helping Cognac, then counterfeiting Gin didn't seem impossible.
“It’s me. I did my own makeup. It has nothing to do with Vermouth,” Shinjo said with a smile. “This is just an appetizer. The main course hasn’t been served yet. I said I would return the favor to Gin, and I must keep my word.”
Pisco shuddered, finally managing to stammer, "You'd better not kill Gin. Although we don't get along, his abilities are undeniable. If you kill him, all the affairs of the Japanese branch will fall on my shoulders, and I don't want to retire and have to find another job."
"Okay," Xincheng said and hung up the phone.
Pisco has really gotten old. I thought the elixir of immortality would make him as daring and aggressive as he was in his youth, but it turns out he's still so hesitant and indecisive. But he's right about one thing: Gin can't die yet, at least not at the hands of Cognac.
Inside a safe house
Gin sat at the table, his face ashen. Before him were various monitors displaying the surveillance equipment from his various safe houses. Through these recordings, he could see that nearly half of his safe houses had been completely cleared out—not good news.
"Boss," Vodka walked in from outside, "I think I've found the reason..."
"The name Kurosawa Jin has been exposed, hasn't it?" Gin said expressionlessly.
These safe houses found by the Metropolitan Police Department were all purchased by him under the name of Kurosawa Jin. If this name and his past actions were exposed, then searching these safe houses would be perfectly reasonable. What he couldn't understand was—how did he get exposed?
“Someone is impersonating you, boss, and has been involved in a murder case.” Vodka wiped the sweat from his brow and placed a file folder on the table as he spoke. “The Metropolitan Police Department’s undercover agent has found the case files; they’re all here.”
Chapter 57 Invitation to the Golden Villa
"The deliveryman who delivered alcohol to the deceased?" Gin looked at the file. "That alone shouldn't be enough to arouse suspicion from the Metropolitan Police Department, right?"
“The Metropolitan Police Department visited the liquor store afterward and confirmed that there was no such person there,” Vodka said after a moment’s hesitation. “The liquor store was called Hakugoro Liquor Co., Ltd., which was purchased by Jiang Xiaobai, a traitor to the organization, and was scheduled to be transferred to the Cognac brand in a few months.”
"Hakugo Sake Industry Co., Ltd.? Hakugo Pharmaceutical, Jiang Xiaobai." Gin seemed to realize something. "What kind of liquor did that guy give me?"
“Louis XIII, it’s a bottle of cognac,” Vodka added after a moment’s hesitation. “There was also a bottle of Louis XIII at the scene of the high-profile museum murder case last month, and the person who delivered it claimed to be James Moriarty.”
“James Moriarty, Holmes’ nemesis? Does this guy think that the Heisei Holmes is still alive, so he’s trying to lure him out? Louis XIII, top-grade cognac, the heir to Jiang Xiaobai, I see.” Gin’s face revealed a cold smile. “Is this your return gift? It’s as boring as children’s squabbling. But I’m still very happy. At least the next few days won’t be too boring.”
Seeing the smile on his boss's face, Vodka couldn't help but shudder. Cognac had completely enraged his boss.
Two days later, Shinjo received a call from Conan. Because Kogoro Mouri was drunk and delayed the ship, Conan wanted to ask if he could pick him up by speedboat.
Shinjo naturally refused Conan's shameless request. This kid really thinks he's Doraemon. Even if he really is Doraemon, he has no intention of being his babysitter.
During this period, another major event occurred: Pibor's law firm successfully acquired the Golden Villa after employing certain tactics.
When Osaka Shozen sold the villa, he still wanted to meet the buyer.
However, Xincheng rejected this request. The Golden Villa was a grand scheme he had prepared, a move to attract the BOSS's attention.
This wealth is destined to be coveted by many. If he reveals his identity, it will attract too much attention, and he won't be able to tell which side is the organization's people.
If he conceals his identity, very few organizations can trace him back to. There are definitely members of an organization among them; a little screening would reveal who the BOSS's subordinates are.
After securing the Golden Mansion, he began sending invitations to famous detectives, including a certain phantom thief who had followed in his father's footsteps.
Osaka
With summer vacation fast approaching, Hattori Heiji plans to go to Tokyo to find the famous high school detective Kudo Shinichi, who is his equal.
Originally, with Kudo in Kanto and Hattori in Kansai, Hattori could have accepted the situation of two powerful figures standing side by side.
But these media guys gave Shinichi Kudo the title of the Heisei Sherlock Holmes, which is practically making him the number one high school detective.
Hattori Heiji was naturally unwilling to admit defeat so easily, so he decided to challenge this high school detective.
Besides that, there was another guy in Tokyo who caught his attention, the guy who called himself Moriarty.
Although he only appeared three times, Moriarty has already made his name known throughout the Japanese police system. Apart from the time he sent a letter to the television station, the other two times he appeared at the crime scene and delivered Louis XIII letters.
"Heiji, are you really going to Tokyo?" Inspector Otaki asked with some concern. "It's not Osaka, we can't help you there. And..."
"And that Moriarty is an extremely dangerous guy, I know, I know."
"This……"
“He gifted Louis XIII, a very valuable wine. The fact that he could give it away proves he's wealthy. Secondly, the gift could mean he's inviting someone to drink at the crime scene, or it could be a farewell toast for the deceased.” Hattori adjusted his hat. “If it's the former, he's either a pervert or a madman. If it's the latter, it proves he knew all along that Manaka and Maru Denjiro would die, witnessed it all, and even orchestrated it. He's a highly intelligent mastermind. Using the name James Moriarty suggests he believes himself to be the latter, but any criminal is just a clown in front of a detective. I will definitely catch him.”
However, at that moment, the door to the room opened, and one of Otaki's officers greeted him and then handed Hattori a jet-black letter.
“This is…” Hattori looked at the signature on the letter, his pupils suddenly contracting. It was James Moriarty, whom they had just mentioned.
"What's wrong?" Officer Otaki asked curiously.
Hattori quickly opened the envelope, read it carefully, and then put the letter back into the envelope and put it away.
"It's an invitation to all of Japan's top detectives to a twilight villa to uncover the truth of forty years ago and Karasuma Renya's treasure." Hattori's lips curled into a smile. "The letter says that Kudo Shinichi will also be there. It seems that guy knows me quite well. My trip to Tokyo will have to be postponed."
"Um..." Otaki hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but didn't dare to.
"What's wrong? Uncle Otaki, do you know some special information?" Hattori's eyes sharpened instantly.
Because he had followed his father for many years, Inspector Otaki knew a lot of information, even secrets. However, Inspector Otaki usually spoke directly about general information, and it was rare for him to be so hesitant as he was today.
“That villa is a bit eerie, maybe you shouldn’t go,” Officer Otaki said somewhat awkwardly.
"Now that you mention it, I'm even more interested." Hattori wrapped one arm around Inspector Otaki's neck. "Tell me, what is it?"
Meanwhile, Edagu High School
"White Horse, Black Feather, there are letters for both of you!" a classmate shouted. "They're in the mailroom, and they seem to be important."
Hakuba Saguru frowned, puzzled. He was a British exchange student who had just transferred to Japan a few months ago. He shouldn't know anyone in Japan. Who could possibly send a letter to the school? His friends or acquaintances in the UK should know his home address.
Meanwhile, Kaito Kuroba was also taken aback. His mother should have sent the items to his home, where the old man would have received them. And why was he with this detective?
Both Kuroba Kaito and Hakuba Saguru opened their black letters almost simultaneously, but their expressions differed upon seeing the contents.
Hakuba Saguru said in a low voice, "A case from over forty years ago, the secret of Karasuma Renya? They even invited all of Japan's top detectives, it's really exciting."
On the other side, Kaito Kuroba remained somewhat silent. The letter invited him to the Twilight Villa, but he didn't want to go. However, the way the letter addressed him was something he couldn't help but care about: Phantom Thief Kid. The sender actually knew his true identity.
"Kuroba-kun, if I'm not mistaken, you and I sent this letter to the same person." Hakuba Saguru looked at the envelope in Kuroba Kaito's hand. "Would you mind telling me what's inside?"
"This? It's not very convenient." Kaito Kuroba directly rejected Saguru Hakuba's request.
Hakuba Saguru's curiosity was understandable, after all, the sender said that he had invited famous detectives from all over Japan, but Kuroba Kaito was not among them, and he had absolutely no connection with the detective profession.
"I'm more curious about Kuroba's identity than that villa."
"What do you want to do? I've heard that there's a lot of that stuff in England. Let me tell you, this is Japan. You can't do that with someone of the same sex. That kind of thing doesn't apply here."
Hakuba Saguru's face darkened. He realized Kaito was being sarcastic, but even if he was joking, he shouldn't have used this kind of topic. It was making the old man in the gatehouse look at him strangely. Given how gossipy this security guard was, rumors about him would probably have spread throughout the entire Jiangtian Ancient High School by this afternoon.
The same letter appeared in the homes of various famous detectives, including one in the hands of Nanatsuki Koshimizu.
Chapter 58 Tokyo Serial Bombings
Koshimizu had suspected that Shinjo was James Moriarty, but Shinjo brushed it off by saying that he was not famous enough to invite many famous detectives, so he could only use the name of James Moriarty.
Two days later, Conan returned to Tokyo and immediately went to the Koshimizu Detective Agency. His purpose was still very clear: to ambush Shinjo.
Shinjo was indeed there today, but it happened to be the day Matsumoto Sayuri was discharged from the hospital, so he still couldn't catch her.
Thanks to timely treatment, Sayuri Matsumoto's voice has recovered well, and she was able to speak again a couple of days ago. If Inspector Matsumoto hadn't insisted on observing her for another two days, she could have been discharged.
When Shinjo gave her the IOU for Takasugi Toshihiko, Matsumoto Sayuri chose to burn it and expressed her forgiveness for Takasugi Toshihiko, saying she was willing to wait for him to be released from prison so they could get married.
Shinjo shrugged at Inspector Matsumoto, who had a fierce look on his face, and said, "This is your daughter's decision, it has nothing to do with me."
Inspector Matsumoto looked at his daughter with some helplessness, and finally sighed, "That kid was right, you really are a stupid woman!"
"I won't bother you any longer, I'll be going now." Shinjo shrugged.
"Wait a minute..." Matsumoto hadn't finished speaking when Shinjo's cell phone rang in his jacket pocket.
After glancing at the number on his phone, Xincheng's expression turned serious. "We can talk about it later. I really don't have time today."
As soon as he arrived at the hospital parking lot, he saw Vodka dressed in black; it was the man who had just called him.
He learned about the investigation into Gin from Pisco a week ago. He had been waiting for Gin and Vodka to come to him, but the two of them hadn't made a move. He never expected that they would choose to make their move today, in this place.
"I never expected to have such a rare guest at my hospital," Shinjo said with a forced smile. "So, what brings you here? Is it because Gin is dead and we need to hold a funeral, or has the organization suffered a major blow and we need to rebuild our Japanese branch?"
Vodka's lips twitched. This guy's words were really irritating. If he weren't considering that he might not be able to beat this madman, he would definitely teach him a lesson right now and let him see the strength of the organization's front-line combatants.
“It’s almost mid-year, and all the branch officers need to have a meeting,” Vodka said. “We didn’t invite you to the New Year’s meeting because we didn’t know you were in Japan. Now that we know, we’ve invited you to come and meet the organization members.”
"A mid-year lottery?" Shinjo stroked his chin. "How much?"
Vodka felt he was about to explode. "We don't have any money. All the expenses for our activities in Japan are self-funded."
"No wonder Gin wanted Miyano Akemi to steal 10 billion yen, she's a penniless pauper. How boring. Tell Gin I don't like meetings with paupers. Come find me again when you're rich." As Shinjo spoke, he walked toward the car on the side.
Watching Xincheng's departing figure, and remembering his boss's instructions, Vodka gritted his teeth and reached his right hand into his jacket pocket.
“If you don’t want your head to explode, you can take this out.” Shinjo walked to his car. “I’m quite confident in my speed, but I’ll have to trouble Gin to come and collect your body.”
"I'm right here. Who do you want me to collect the body for?" Gin emerged from behind a pillar in a parking lot, his hands in his pockets. It was unclear whether he had a gun hidden in one hand or both.
"Why did you take so long to come? I thought you weren't satisfied with the appetizer I prepared for you, so you didn't come to see me. Turns out you felt insecure, so you held back until now." Xincheng's smile suddenly disappeared, and he asked coldly, "Now that you two are here, who's going to collect your corpses?"
Gin frowned; he hadn't expected Cognac to be so arrogant these days.
This hospital is their territory. Ever since they sniped and killed a hospital purchasing agent in front of Xincheng, no one has left the hospital. In other words, although the hospital belongs to Xincheng, most of the staff are spies planted by the organization, so it can be considered their territory.
On their own turf, after being suddenly attacked, this new city still dares to be so arrogant? They must be out of their minds!
"Why are you in such a hurry?" Xincheng sighed. "I'm a man of my word. Since I said I would give you a return gift, I definitely will. Since you're in such a hurry, I'll give it to you now."
As he spoke, Xincheng took out a cell phone from his jacket pocket and quickly dialed a number.
Gin realized something was wrong when he saw Shinjo take out his phone, but Shinjo was some distance away and the car door provided cover, so even if he fired, it wouldn't make a difference. Besides, he didn't believe Shinjo would plant a bomb under the hospital; this guy wasn't the type to take everyone down with him.
The call was answered quickly, but there was no response from inside the parking lot; the dial tone sounded extremely jarring in the empty parking lot.
"This is the first one, don't rush." The call didn't go through, but Xincheng remained calm and dialed the next number. "There are several more to come."
Gin and Vodka both frowned; they had no idea what Newtown was up to.
If it were a call for help, Chianti and Cohen are stationed at the front and back entrances of the hospital; they would open fire if anything seemed amiss. Reinforcements wouldn't be able to get in; it would only increase casualties. Cognac couldn't possibly have overlooked those two. So what was he doing?
While he was speaking, he made three more phone calls. When he made the fourth call, Gin and Vodka's phones rang at the same time. After hearing the content of the call, their expressions changed drastically. Gin decisively fired at the phone in Shinjo's hand.
The bullet knocked the phone away, but the next second, Xincheng pulled out another phone with his other hand and quickly dialed a number.
