Robert used an elemental transformation to break free from Luffy's grasp, and his body reappeared two or three meters away.
Luffy exclaimed in astonishment, "Huh! Isn't this Enel's ability? Robert, how did you get it?"
Robert's face changed several times in a few seconds, and finally he sighed deeply and said, "I'm sorry, I don't deserve to be your friend."
Luffy's expression turned serious: "What are you saying? If it weren't for you on Skypiea, Nami, Sanji, and Usopp might have been killed by Enel. We should all be thanking you, how could you say you've wronged us?"
Robert, his face filled with shame, said, "Because I lied to you from the very beginning... The reason I came to the Sky Island was because of Blackbeard, my captain. He forced me to lead the way and follow you, wanting to capture you for the bounty..."
Luffy slammed his fist into his palm: "You mean your captain is Blackbeard! I knew he didn't seem like a good person, but you did help us, so we're even. Don't say anything like that again that we're not worthy of being friends."
Robert was deeply moved: "I was forcibly dragged into Blackbeard's gang. On the Sky Island, I seized the opportunity to escape his control, but now I've been framed by him and am a wanted criminal. I can't drag you down with me."
Luffy burst into laughter: "Hey, I'm a great pirate with a bounty of 100 million! You don't actually think you have a higher bounty than me, do you?"
Robert looked speechless, while Luffy grinned and put his arm around his shoulder: "Don't think too much about it. Everyone's worried about you. Come with me to see Nami and the others. Once we find the guy who can repair the ship, we'll all have a bonfire party tonight!"
Robert gritted his teeth and pushed Luffy away: "I'm grateful that you're still willing to treat me as a friend, but I have very important things to do right now, so I'm sorry."
Luffy frowned and asked, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Robert: Please just continue to be a good hanger-on.
Chapter 24 As long as the buffs are stacked high enough
Robert pretended to be unable to resist Luffy's enthusiasm and followed him to the place where he and Nami had agreed to meet.
Nami and Usopp had already exchanged the gold they brought back from Skypiea for Berries, and excitedly went up to greet Robert.
Luffy intentionally didn't mention what Robert had told him, but Robert honestly apologized again and admitted his mistake.
If even Luffy could forgive so generously, then Nami and Usopp, who considered themselves to have received favors from Robert, would naturally be even less likely to hold a grudge.
On the contrary, he was even happier to hear that Robert had stolen the Rumble-Rumble Fruit from Blackbeard and was now a powerful pirate.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Robert stopped pretending to be ashamed, and everyone resumed their previous comfortable way of getting along.
As they chatted and laughed, they arrived at the entrance of Dock No. 1. A shipwright with a square, long nose, resembling Pinocchio, stopped them: "Sorry, outsiders are not allowed to enter the dock. Please speak at the entrance."
Robert certainly recognized who this was: Kaku, a CP9 spy infiltrating Water 7's mayor, Iceberg, and a master of the Six Powers.
Knowing Kaku's identity beforehand, Robert keenly noticed that even though Luffy's bounty was much higher than his own, Kaku's gaze inexplicably lingered on him for half a second longer.
Nami pulled out the letters of introduction they had received from Kokoro, the station manager of the water train, and Kaku finally let them in. He then demonstrated his amazing parkour skills, saying he needed to check on the Going Merry first.
Robert followed behind Luffy and his crew, trying his best not to interfere with the plot, just like he did on Skypiea. He didn't even stop Franky's younger brother from stealing the large box containing Berries.
Robert didn't intend to use Luffy's crew for anything this time, because, to some extent, if we disregard the protagonist's halo, he is already stronger than them.
What he wanted to get from the Straw Hat crew this time was their incredible luck—they could survive no matter how big a mess they made.
He couldn't find Ace's whereabouts, and the Navy was deliberately concealing the fact that he had escaped from custody. Even as Karina said, even if he caused a huge incident, the Navy and the World Government could easily suppress the news and prevent Ace from seeing it.
So what Robert needs to do next is stand in a place where Ace can definitely see him and tell him that he is safe!
And there is only one place now, which is Ace's destination - Enies Lobby!
Following behind Luffy and his crew, Robert encountered two other CP9 agents lurking around Iceberg: the hot blonde beauty Kalifa and Rob Lucci, hailed as the strongest killing machine in CP9's 800-year history.
The way the two men looked at him was also very meaningful; it was clear that Bruno had already told all the CP9 members about his escape from them.
But his mindset now is completely different from when he faced Bruno. After his awakening level increased, Robert finally had the confidence to participate in the struggles between these characters in the story.
CP9 are nothing more than a bunch of frogs in a well who haven't mastered Haki. Although each of them may have physical abilities several times greater than mine, in the face of the elemental nature of Logia-type Devil Fruits, under the influence of Haki, all beings are equal!
With this mindset, Robert's perspective on the plot changed. The exciting Enies Lobby arc now seemed like nothing more than two groups of elementary school kids fighting.
Luffy and his crew first learned that the Going Merry was beyond repair, and then discovered that their 200 million Berries in cash, along with Usopp, had disappeared. Luffy immediately set off to search for them.
Nami was initially a little lost, but seeing Robert, whom she considered very reliable, still by her side, she immediately felt much more at ease.
"Luffy is still so...genuine..."
Nami knew that Robert was saving face for Luffy, but she was also worried about Usopp's safety. Ignoring the awkwardness, she grabbed Robert and started to chase after them.
Lucci patted the pigeon on his shoulder, and the pigeon soared into the sky, flying towards a certain place in Water Seven.
Robert and Nami split up, agreeing to meet Luffy and Usopp on the Going Merry regardless of whether they found them or not.
After Nami left, Robert slowly walked towards the Going Merry.
"My dear boss, is this some kind of scam? I don't quite understand it, but my old friend seems to have been completely fooled by you."
A curly-haired man suddenly appeared out of nowhere, standing a step away from Robert, but speaking in Karina's voice.
“I didn’t lie to them. Although I did have ulterior motives in approaching them, I genuinely considered them my friends.”
Karina smiled and said, "Then, boss, what is your purpose in approaching them? Could you tell me so I can learn from you?"
Nami and Karina actually have a very deep bond. Robert knows that Karina is trying to trick him into revealing information because she's afraid he might harm Nami.
"Do you remember that one of the things on my wanted poster was researching forbidden knowledge?"
Karina nodded: "Of course, I'm also very curious about what you've been researching."
Robert said, "They believe I'm researching information about the lost century, and that my identity is that of a survivor of the destroyed research island of Ohara!"
Karina knew many secrets that were unknown to others. When she heard Robert mention the lost century and Ohara, her heart skipped a beat: "So you're really researching those things?"
Robert laughed and said, "I've already said that someone framed me. I'm not a survivor of Ohara at all."
Karina let out a long sigh of relief, and then Robert continued, "But I do have some knowledge of those forbidden things, hahaha."
Karina was speechless for a moment, then steered the conversation back on track: "You still haven't told me why you wanted to get close to the Straw Hat crew. You've been telling me to keep an eye on whether they've arrived in Water Seven."
Robert said quietly, "Because there really was a survivor of O'Hara on their ship!"
Karina's body trembled almost imperceptibly; she never expected that her good friend Nami would be associating with such a dangerous person.
To be honest, even though her captain Luffy had a bounty of 100 million, Karina was never worried. There were countless pirates with a bounty of over 100 million on the entire Grand Line, and the Navy couldn't even catch them all.
However, if anyone studies that forbidden knowledge, the navy will actually send warships to erase everything.
"I still don't understand what you're trying to do."
Robert looked at the Merry, which was moored far away on the shore, and waved to Karina:
“They’ve accused me of being a descendant of Ohara, so I’ll just make that my true identity!”
Chapter 25 If I had had this life certificate earlier, I wouldn't have needed to go through so much trouble.
Although Robert came straight for the Going Merry, he walked and deliberately slowed down, so when he arrived at the Going Merry, Nami had already returned.
Zoro, Sanji, and Chopper are following the route map drawn by Nami to treat Usopp. At this time, Nami is the only one on the Going Merry, anxiously guarding the last 100 million Berries.
Upon seeing Robert arrive, Nami completely relaxed and even chatted with him about sharing some Berries with him.
Trying to squeeze money out of Nami, who is notoriously stingy, is practically impossible. The fact that she's willingly sharing some of her earnings with me is a benefit I'm taking from her life-saving grace.
But Robert figured he wouldn't need the money in the short term, so he readily refused.
Nami's favorability rating immediately rose to another level, and she became even more enthusiastic towards Robert, wishing she could bring him into the Straw Hat crew as well.
As darkness began to fall, Luffy and his crew finally rescued the nearly dead Usopp, and the group sat on the ship discussing the events of the day.
Chopper already liked Robert a lot, Sanji felt he owed Robert a huge favor, and Zoro seemed indifferent to everything and didn't have any ill feelings towards Robert, so everyone on the Going Merry was very happy about Robert's arrival.
Then Chopper became worried about Robin, who hadn't returned yet, and recounted how he got separated from Robin during the day.
Robert's long-awaited opportunity had finally arrived. He frowned and asked, "You mean Miss Robin seemed to have overheard someone say something, and then she abandoned you and left?"
Chopper said, feeling wronged, "I didn't see clearly when I was in the bookstore. Robin shouldn't be abandoning me, but I'm really worried about her."
Sanji, with a pained expression, said, "I also saw Robin's back. She seemed to be following someone somewhere, and she ignored me when I called her."
Nami keenly noticed Robert's expression: "What, Robert, do you know something?"
Robert murmured, "I hope it's not what I think..."
Sanji quickly said, "Say it!"
Robert took a deep breath: "I'm not sure right now, but I have some guesses."
Luffy, unusually serious, asked, "Is Robin in any danger?"
Robert took a deep breath: "As I've told you all before, I was forced to join Blackbeard's gang. They're not good people, so I've been looking for a chance to escape from them."
"On the Sky Island, I finally had the chance to break free from his control, so Blackbeard now hates me to the core."
"After I left Skypiea, I first landed in a kingdom called Lulucia, where I met a friend, Luffy, whose name is Ace. He said you are his younger brother."
Luffy's eyes widened: "Huh! You saw Ace? If I had known your captain was Blackbeard, I would have brought Ace with us. He's chasing Blackbeard."
Robert nodded and continued, "He told me about this, so we hit it off immediately. I helped him find Blackbeard, and he defeated Blackbeard to solve my problem."
Sanji said impatiently, "What does all this have to do with Robin's disappearance?"
Robert waved his hand and continued, "Ace promised a girl that he would deliver a letter to the Navy's G2 branch, but he has an arrest warrant, so I said I would help him with the delivery."
"But as soon as I entered the G2 branch that day, I was arrested by the Navy. That's when I learned that Blackbeard, in order to take revenge on me, led his crew in a massacre of a country and then claimed that I was also involved."
Luffy and his crew were furious, and they all hated Blackbeard's ruthlessness and despicable nature to the core.
"And the crime that Blackbeard accused me of, besides participating in the massacre, is that I once studied forbidden knowledge on the island of Ohara, and that I was a descendant of the people!"
Luffy scratched his head: "What's Ohara?"
Robert said, word by word, "Miss Robin's hometown!"
Although the Straw Hat crew had been with Robin for a long time, they never really had the habit of asking about their partner's background. Since Robin hadn't mentioned her origins before, no one asked.
Sanji asked, "So what exactly caused Robin's disappearance? Could it be that she was taken away by other people from Ohara?"
Robert shook his head and said, "The people of Ohara have all been executed by the Navy. As far as I know, the only survivor is Miss Robin. After I was captured by the Navy, I was handed over to another group of people. They claimed to be a special agency directly under the World Government, which specializes in arresting people like the residents of Ohara who are trying to study forbidden knowledge."
"Before I used my newly acquired Devil Fruit power to escape, I overheard a phone call between some of their members, mentioning that they were also monitoring Robin in addition to me. That's when I learned that Robin was actually a survivor of Ohara."
Sanji, panting heavily, said, "So it's very likely that Robin was captured by some kind of spies? But why did I see her seemingly leave willingly with others?"
Robert gave away the spoiler directly, saying that they would find out about this from Iceberg in a day or two at most: "I'm worried that Miss Robin is being blackmailed, and the bargaining chip they're using to blackmail her is likely the safety of everyone as partners!"
Luffy was furious: "These bastards! We have to go save her!"
Robert said, "These are just my guesses. I've had contact with that organization, so let me go find Miss Robin first."
