Holm also expressed his gratitude and excitement for the good news mentioned by Garrett, maintaining his persona and character.
He knew that Garrett hadn't come here just to tell him this news; there must be something else he wanted to say.
Sure enough, after saying these words, Garrett paused, then continued, "Are you aware of the attack on Tony Stark today?"
"I just found out too. Nick Fury just gave me a new mission: to protect and keep Tony Stark under house arrest..." Holm replied, also telling Garrett about the mission he had just received.
After listening to his account, Garrett said in a deep voice, "The organization originally wanted to find the attacker and recruit him, but they didn't expect him to have died in prison."
"There are still many doubts about this matter. Are you sure S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't get involved?"
Hearing his question, Holm frowned and said, "S.H.I.E.L.D. also wanted to intervene, but they couldn't get there in time either."
"So either that guy really died in prison, or someone acted faster than us and took him away first."
Hearing Holm's answer, Garrett was further certain of his thoughts, knowing that S.H.I.E.L.D. had indeed not intervened.
"If he really died, that would be too much of a coincidence. I think someone must have acted faster than us."
“I will send someone to investigate, and I will let you know when I have any news,” Garratt said.
Holm nodded in agreement: "Understood. Once the information is verified, I will definitely bring him back to the organization."
Without Garrett even having to ask, Holm had already taken on the task.
Garrett nodded in agreement and said, "I've always trusted you to get things done."
"Actually, we've made some progress on our Arc Reactor project. Although the researchers who came last time were far inferior to Tony Stark, they at least got to observe it up close."
"However, compared to Tony Stark's version, theirs is too cumbersome and inefficient, which is why the organization wants to find the attacker."
After saying that, Garrett took out a few more test tubes and placed them on the table. Then, looking at Holm, he continued, "These tasks are not urgent. Gathering clues will take some time. I will let you know when that time comes. The only thing you need to complete as soon as possible is this. This is the most important thing."
"You need to extract some of Bronsky's blood and flesh tissue into a test tube. This task is related to a very important research direction for the organization's future, so there must be no mistakes and it must be completed."
“I know that he is being kept under very strict surveillance, which may make it a little difficult for you to act, but that’s precisely why it’s important and your abilities are being demonstrated.”
“You are our Hydra’s ace. If you can’t do it, then no one else has a chance of completing this mission.”
Listening to his words and looking at the test tube he took out, Holm silently accepted it, then nodded after thinking for a moment and said, "I will try my best to complete the task, but this time I may not be able to complete it immediately. I will need some time to wait for a better opportunity."
"Blonsky is currently being held in a special prison on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. No outsiders can get close to him, and I have no reason to go there. If I were to force myself to do something, it would be very conspicuous, and if any trouble arises in the future, I would become very conspicuous, which would be detrimental to my concealment."
"After a while, he will be transferred to Cube Prison, which is even more special. Although I have upgraded to level 8, I still don't know its location. Moreover, the confinement there will be even stricter than at S.H.I.E.L.D., and it will be even more difficult to take action."
"So the best time to make my move is during the process of transferring Bronsky from the space carrier to the Cube Prison."
"At that time, we were neither in the special prison nor the Cube prison, so the security would definitely be a little lax. Moreover, in order to prevent any accidents that could lead to Brosky's escape, S.H.I.E.L.D. would most likely send me to escort the prisoner. So this was the best opportunity to strike, and I didn't have to worry about being too conspicuous and being exposed."
After listening to Holm's plan and arrangements, Garrett nodded and said, "Then let's go with your plan. The highest requirement for your activities is to not expose your identity and to continue to infiltrate the upper echelons of S.H.I.E.L.D. So even if there is this mission, it will be no exception. I allow you to wait for the opportunity and move out when the right time comes."
"Thank you for your understanding, sir, and for the organization's trust in me," Holm replied.
This task was indeed not easy to complete, but it happened to coincide with his own plan. He had originally intended to do something underhanded during the transfer of Bronsky, first by making some verbal remarks, and then by leaving behind a Venom clone.
Bronsky would never allow himself to die in prison, so once he arrived at Cube Prison, he would willingly consume the Venom clone and use his even greater power to break through the blockade and escape.
The task Garrett has assigned him is essentially adding a blood draw step before all the previous steps, so it doesn't really affect anything.
It's just a question of what use this blood will have once it falls into Hydra's hands. Will it create some bizarre monsters or weapons with unknown functions?
Such thoughts only lingered for a moment before Holm brought them back to his senses. By the time the task was completed, Garrett should have accomplished all the purposes for coming to him tonight.
After the usual casual conversation, Garrett got up and left.
After they all disappeared from his senses, Holm leaned back on the sofa and quietly pondered all of this.
Chapter 178, Let's say hello to the "Warden"
The next morning, Holm arrived at Tony Stark's villa on time, just as agreed the day before.
Daisy hasn't arrived yet, but the people Nick Fury arranged for her are already in place.
After assigning responsibilities and tasks to these people according to the plan, he walked into the villa's hall.
The sky was a clear, cloudless blue, and sunlight streamed in from the spacious terrace, accompanied by a gentle breeze carrying a hint of dampness.
It must be said that Tony Stark's villa is perfect in every way; just standing here, you can feel the ultimate fusion of technology and life.
The only flaw was the large hole in the floor, which ran through several floors and left loose stones and debris scattered throughout the villa, completely ruining its beautiful scenery.
Just as Holm was shaking his head and sighing that the several large holes were really an eyesore, Daisy walked in from the doorway.
“The view here is really nice. As expected of Tony Stark, he really knows how to enjoy life… Oh, what’s this big hole?” Daisy said as she walked, and as she got closer to Holm, she also saw the big hole in the ground.
Holm explained, "Didn't the director say yesterday that Tony Stark and his good friend James Rhodes had a fight here, and James Rhodes even took a suit of armor? This should be the remains of that battle."
"The big hole on this floor is nothing compared to what I just saw on the floor below; almost all the glass and furniture there are shattered."
"I don't know what's the point of fighting when they're both wearing steel armor. They're just making a lot of clanging noises and probably just hitting metal. If they really want to fight, they should take off their armor and wrestle hand-to-hand for a while."
Hearing Holm's complaints, Daisy chuckled softly, "What he said is true, but don't you think that if it were a pure hand-to-hand combat without Iron Man armor, how could Tony Stark possibly beat James Rhodes? You know, James Rhodes is an Air Force colonel, and one of him could probably take on five of him."
As the two were chatting, they heard the sound of a car parking outside. A moment later, Nick Fury walked in with Coulson and Tony.
"If I haven't gone to the wrong place, this should be my house." Looking at the room full of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Tony remarked with a touch of helplessness.
Nick Fury ignored Tony's complaints, waved his hand, and introduced him, "You should be very familiar with Agent Clint, after all, you've dealt with him quite a bit before."
"This lady next to you is Agent Johnson. She was involved in several missions related to you, but she was mainly responsible for the technical aspects, so you may not have met her before."
"You will be mainly in charge of these two for the next period of time. Although Agent Coulson is the nominal supervisor, he has a lot of things to be responsible for."
"So, Mr. Stark, you should say hello to your warden for the next few days. After all, even if you want to have a cup of coffee, they'll have to verify it for you."
Listening to Nick Fury's words, Tony also pursed his lips helplessly, but he still looked up and greeted Holm and Daisy.
Although he didn't have a good impression of Nick Fury, he was alright with Holm. After all, Holm had rescued him several times, and he had witnessed firsthand how powerful Holm was.
So while Nick Fury jokingly refers to Holm and Daisy as his wardens, they were actually his unpaid bodyguards for a period of time.
With Holm here to protect him, attacks like those in Morocco are unlikely to happen.
After watching them exchange greetings and pleasantries, Nick Fury continued walking towards the terrace and said, "You two can familiarize yourselves with the surroundings first. Mr. Stark and I still have some things to discuss; there are some things I haven't yet explained to him."
"By the way, I noticed that Mr. Stark has quite a collection of fine wines in his wine cabinet. I suppose he wouldn't hesitate to share them with us."
Listening to Nick Fury's nonchalant attitude, Tony didn't say much, but simply took a bottle of wine from the wine cabinet and poured out four glasses.
Rather than letting Nick Fury use it as a favor, it's better for him to show some hospitality himself.
After downing two glasses, Tony took his glass to the terrace and sat down, basking in the sun while swirling his drink and waiting for Nick Fury to speak.
Holm and Daisy, also holding wine glasses, stood in the living room, chatting quietly while observing their surroundings.
On the terrace, Nick Fury was criticizing Tony's personality, which gave Tony a headache.
Daisy listened to their conversation and chattered away with Holm beside them, her face flushed from the several sips of cold wine she had just drunk.
In order not to affect the work to come, Holm quickly stopped Daisy from having a refill, lest she get more and more drunk.
Meanwhile, Nick Fury had finished his verbal sparring with Tony and began to explain the belongings left by his father.
"You may not know this, but your father was also one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D., and these are things he left behind."
"The thing on your chest is made based on unfinished technology. According to your father, it's just a stepping stone to a greater technology."
"What?!" Tony was very surprised by Nick Fury's words: "Are you sure you're not mistaken? It was a finished product. I shrunk it down to achieve the current effect."
Nick Fury glanced at him upon hearing this, then continued, "I trust your father's words more than your judgment."
"He was preparing to launch an energy competition that, if successful, would leave all his competitors far behind. Nuclear reactors would be like No. 7 batteries in comparison."
"Your father was unable to succeed due to the constraints of the times, but you have enough resources and wisdom to continue. This achievement will be completed by you. These are your father's exact words."
Upon hearing Nick Fury's words, Tony raised an eyebrow and said, "Unbelievable, he would say something like that. It's completely different from what I remember."
“If what you’re saying is true, then it seems you know my father better than I do.”
“That is indeed the case,” Nick Fury said.
He then glanced at his watch and continued to Tony, "I've said all I need to say. Now you should stay home and try to unravel the mystery your father left you."
“Natasha will continue to work for Stark Industries, and the Clint East Guild is watching you.”
After saying that, Nick Fury straightened his trench coat and walked towards the exit.
As he passed through the hall, he turned back as if remembering something and instructed Holm, "By the way, Agent Clint, if Mr. Stark is not willing to follow orders, you can take coercive measures if necessary."
“This is an action I directly approved, so you don’t need to have any concerns.”
After saying that, he looked back at Tony on the terrace, and then, unusually, smiled and said, "I hope you'll stay put until your problem is solved, Mr. Stark."
Watching Nick Fury's departing figure and thinking about what he had just said, Tony glanced at Holm not far away and asked, "You're not going to do anything to me, are you?"
He knew Holm's strength very well, so if they really wanted to do something to him, no matter how much he wanted to resist, it would be futile.
Hearing Tony's words, Holm smiled and said, "The director must be joking. If Mr. Stark doesn't do anything 'against the rules,' I certainly wouldn't do anything unreasonable either."
Hearing Holm emphasize those words, Tony nodded, sighed, and put down his glass to head to the lab for inspiration.
Solving the palladium poisoning problem is now of utmost urgency; the presence of so many S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in his household is even more distressing than the palladium poisoning itself.
Chapter 179, The Key to the Future
Tony had been staying in the villa's laboratory ever since Nick Fury left that morning.
Holm even brought him lunch and dinner and checked on him. The rest of the time, no one from S.H.I.E.L.D. bothered him, leaving him alone in the lab to think about how to solve his physical problems.
Tony turned off the laboratory lights and was watching the projector display images of his father on the screen in front of him.
He reclined in his chair, flipping through his father's notes while listening to a video of his father, Howard Stark, recording the opening sequence for that year's exposition.
After a few failed shots were shown, the lights dimmed in the next scene, indicating that it was late at night and everyone was resting.
In the footage, Howard Stark is facing the camera, leaning against the exhibition model, seemingly deep in thought. After a moment of silence, he suddenly speaks in a serious and profound tone.
“Tony, you’re still too young to understand, so I’ll film this part for you first.”
Hearing this, Tony turned to look at the screen in surprise. He hadn't expected his father to have left him with such a video.
He had spent the whole day watching videos of his father's daily life, including meetings, and thought this videotape would be similar, but he didn't expect there to be such a surprise at the end.
“All of this was built for you, and one day you will understand what it means.”
