He's a typical failure; he can't even speak clearly, and he doesn't seem very bright.
Only lizardmen like them, whether intelligent or robust, represent the right direction for future evolution.
"Alright, it seems you've had good luck. You can go now; your task for today is complete." Eisen waved to Vig, who was looking somewhat dazed.
Hearing Eisen's words, Vig nodded, then turned and crawled into the hole next to him.
After Vig left, Eisen and Neil picked up the four men who were lying on the ground, slumped and begging for mercy, in pairs and walked into a door to the side.
"A weak body, a fragile spirit, humans are indeed a species without a future. Only lizards like us are the protagonists of the future." Neil lifted the two men who had already fainted from fright in his hands and said with a wide-open mouth.
Hearing this, Eisen nodded, forcing a smile as he said with a hint of excitement, "The Doctor is truly amazing. Without him, we would never have been able to feel the power within our bodies."
“He created us like a god!” Neil nodded in agreement, also admiring the Lizard Doctor who was based on his power.
"With these new materials, the experiment can be accelerated, and the latest reagents will be available for research results soon," Eisen said excitedly.
"Once the new reagent is successfully developed, as long as we follow the plan, we can enable everyone in the city to undergo a glorious evolution within minutes and become one of us."
"Then we'll dispose of those failed attempts, leaving only the superior genes in the entire population."
"If we continue to reproduce and develop in this way, we will be able to replace humans and become the new masters of this world."
As he spoke these words, a longing gleamed in Eisen's usually cold, beast-like eyes.
As a member of Dr. Lizard's research team, he was well aware of the impact their plan would have if executed on schedule, so he was always extremely excited and couldn't contain himself whenever he thought about it.
As Eisen and Neil were dreaming about the future and carrying Gwen inside, Gwen, who was being held by Eisen, quietly opened her eyes a crack and silently observed the situation inside the base.
What Eisen had just said sent chills down her spine.
She knew that the lizard doctor Peter mentioned must have had his own secret plan to do all this, but she didn't expect that the plan would actually be so evil and crazy.
They actually want to turn everyone in New York, and even the whole world, into lizard people, and call it a glorious evolution. It's terrifying.
Fortunately, she finally encountered the lizard monster that was capturing people today and was brought back. Otherwise, if things had continued to drag on and things had really developed as they said, there would have been no way to salvage the situation.
In order to find the Lizardmen's lair, Gwen racked her brains for a while. In the end, she learned a lot about the Lizardmen's incidents and information by browsing the secret database of the police system before she decided on this risky plan.
She wanted to make herself a target of the lizardmen so she could infiltrate their ranks, rescue ordinary people like herself who had been captured, destroy their strongholds, and thwart their plans.
As Spider-Woman, Gwen is very confident in her abilities; she believes she can do it all.
The only uncertainty was whether the lizardmen would target her and abduct her, which was why she had been wandering around these past few nights.
At first, she was full of confidence, but after several days she didn't even see a shadow of the lizardmen. Instead, she dealt with quite a few criminals who tried to take advantage of the chaos at night.
She hadn't held out much hope for tonight, but to her surprise, she encountered a lizardman who suddenly appeared.
The plan is now mostly complete; she just needs the two lizardmen to take her to the destination before she can begin her operation.
"Alright, let's leave them here for now, then we'll go check on the experiment's progress."
“There should be many more humans captured tonight, and we’ll make arrangements then,” Eisen said to Neil beside him as he threw Gwen and another woman into a round cell with iron bars.
Neil nodded in agreement, then threw the two men he was carrying into the nearby circular cell.
These circular cells were converted from water pipes that had been completely blocked at the back, so they were not very big. The people inside could not even stand up and could only lie down or squat.
After closing the iron fence, Eisen and Neil left while talking.
As the footsteps of the two lizardmen faded into the distance and disappeared, Gwen opened her eyes, got up from the ground, and crouched down to move to the iron fence, peering out and surveying her surroundings.
To her left and right, and even on the opposite wall, there were many more such circular cells.
Most of these round cells were empty, with only a few holding one or two people.
Unlike Gwen, who was still full of energy, the others who were locked up were mostly lying on the ground. If it weren't for their chests rising and falling slightly, they would have looked no different from corpses.
The few people sitting cross-legged or squatting also looked numb, with cracked lips, and their whole bodies looked ashen and lifeless.
Chapter 29, Are You Sober Yet?
These people have been here for at least two months. At first, they still held onto the hope that they could escape or that someone would come to rescue them.
But as time went on, one person after another was tormented by this unknown experiment to the point of unbearable pain, and then died in agony and despair.
By now, they no longer expect anyone to find them; they are simply numbly waiting for the lizardmen to drag them away and then die in one of their experiments.
Seeing the despair and numb expressions on these people's faces, and recalling Peter's fearful and repentant appearance before his death, Gwen felt even more resentful towards the mysterious Dr. Lizard.
She looked back at the woman who was locked up with her; the woman was still unconscious and had not yet woken up.
That's good, otherwise Gwen would have to figure out how to confuse the other party when they take action later, since she needs to keep the fact that she is Spider-Woman a secret, especially since she is wanted by the police.
Gwen bypassed the unconscious woman on the ground in the middle, then gradually retreated into the shadows and darkness behind her, preparing to begin her disguise.
But just as she took off her oversized hoodie, she heard a slight noise coming from in front of her.
Seeing this, Gwen had no choice but to put her hoodie back on to cover her black and white combat uniform underneath, and then carefully moved to the gate fence to check the situation.
Not far from her, in a circular cell, as the iron bars slowly opened, a figure she recognized emerged.
Holm landed lightly and silently on the ground, then alertly surveyed his surroundings.
He had forcibly broken through the previously blocked circular cell. Encouraged by the chocolate, Venom mustered his energy and completed the task in almost no time.
At this moment, Holm was still praising Venom in his heart, while assuring it that the reward of chocolate would be delivered as soon as they got out. Then he saw the drunken girl he had seen a few times blinking her big blue eyes at the circular cell fence not far away, looking at him with surprise and astonishment.
Holm had no idea that he had interrupted the girl's transformation into Spider-Woman; he simply assumed that she was surprised and delighted to see him in her despair.
Thinking that he would need someone to cooperate with his plan, he walked toward the circular cell where the girl was.
"How are you? Are you sober now?" Holm said as he reached out and grasped the padlock on the iron fence.
Hearing Holm's slightly mocking and sarcastic words, Gwen was stunned for a moment, and then realized that the spying she felt before she was captured was real.
This guy witnessed the whole thing; otherwise, how would he know she came from a bar?
Thinking about this, Gwen was very glad that she had been alert at the time and had not revealed any flaws. The only slightly inappropriate thing was that she looked up in that direction after she felt the gaze.
However, this doesn't prove anything directly; she could come up with many excuses for this.
Her thoughts raced through her mind, and after thinking about all of this, Gwen suddenly realized that Holm's words were a veiled insult.
Their several meetings all involved alcohol, and Holm's attitude changed from initial advice and sudden indifference to his current close taunts.
But she didn't drink alcohol this time; her target was always the lizardmen, and she only ordered drinks and juice at the bar.
Thinking of this, Gwen glared angrily at Holm, then emphasized, word by word, "I didn't drink alcohol. I only had juice and soft drinks at the bar."
"And how did you know I went to the bar?"
"Kab!" With a sharp crack, Holm ripped the padlock off the iron fence.
Holm casually tossed the lock to the ground, then opened the fence and looked at Gwen, whose eyes were wide open, saying, "I thought you would have guessed after these few times. When I first met you, I already showed my FBI badge, and the driver saw it too."
"As an FBI agent, what's so strange about me knowing you just went to a bar? I even know what you had for dinner last night."
"Hurry up and come out of there. Help me calm these people down, and then we'll go out together after I release everyone here."
After saying that, Holm turned around and walked to the circular cell next to him, and then pulled off the lock on it as well.
"What FBI? What do you mean you know what I ate last night? What a liar! I already said I didn't drink, but you're just pretending not to hear me and not responding."
While thinking to herself, Gwen woke up the woman in her cell and then hurried to catch up with Holm to calm the others down.
She knew Holm was rambling on and avoiding the part about her not drinking, but the situation was urgent, and neither of them had time to chat anymore.
Holm was quick; in less than two minutes, he had opened the bars of all the inhabited circular cells.
Unlike him, who was just pulling a lock, Gwen's work was obviously much more time-consuming. By the time he opened all the gates, Gwen had only just finished communicating with a small portion of the people.
Seeing this, Holm gathered the remaining people together and whispered some instructions to them.
After a brief exchange of information, Holm led the people to the circular cell he had just dug, and had them crawl through it one by one.
He had already set up directions along the way and explained the instructions to several people who were in good spirits and in relatively good condition. As long as they listened to the instructions and didn't wander off, they would be able to reach a safe place outside where S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel would meet them.
Watching the last person climb out of the passage, Holm turned to Gwen, who hadn't moved yet, and said, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and come out with us. I was going to let you lead the way since you're in the best condition, but I thought we might need you more later. In case someone gets lost, you can remind them."
Holm urged Gwen to leave quickly while explaining his thoughts.
Gwen wasn't unhappy with the arrangement; on the contrary, she wanted to stay and help, but she was worried that she was feeling a bit constrained in her current state.
"More people will be brought in soon, I can help you..."
Upon hearing Gwen's suggestion, Holm did not hesitate at all, and directly grabbed her hand and forcibly shoved her into the passage.
“I know you want to help me, and I appreciate your kindness. I also have a plan to get rid of the people who will be brought here later. Your departure now, and your check to make sure no one is left behind, will be the biggest help you can give me.”
Holm explained patiently and reasonably, seemingly worried that an unusual tone might provoke a rebellious attitude in the girl. After all, based on their previous meetings, the girl in his mind was certainly not the obedient type.
Chapter 30, James's Stunning Performance
Holm's worst fears didn't come true. The girl seemed to have taken his words to heart; without saying anything more, she moved towards the other side of the passage.
Once she finally left the cramped cell and stood up again, the girl leaned down and looked at Holm, who was preparing to clean up the mess across the passage, and asked, "I haven't said thank you yet."
"Thank you for your help again. My name is Gwen Stacy."
Hearing Gwen's thanks and self-introduction, Holm was taken aback for a moment, then nodded and replied, "You're welcome. My name is Holm Clint."
"Hurry up and leave. I'll handle things here."
“I understand,” Gwen nodded and smiled.
She had already decided that she would follow Holm's instructions and go out as Gwen, then come back in as Spider-Woman to help. Surely Spider-Woman wouldn't be seen as a nuisance again, right?
"Oh, and remember to quit drinking, you're still young." Holm's teasing words came from the passageway again.
Gwen frowned angrily upon hearing this, and replied to Holm with some embarrassment, "You bastard! I already told you I only drank juice and beverages!"
"Hahahaha!" Holm's laughter reached Gwen's ears once again, but judging from the receding sound, he was probably busy cleaning up the mess.
Thinking of this, Gwen also waved her fist at the air in frustration, as if Holm were right in front of her.
She didn't linger any longer, and following the directions left by Holm, she quickly ran outside, knowing she would be back soon.
On the other side of the passage, Holm was closing the open iron gate to prevent the lizardmen from noticing anything amiss.
"Why waste our energy? We can just kill them when they come back," Venom said, munching on chocolate with a smacking sound, not understanding Holm's approach.
The unpleasant smell from outside was gone, so as soon as everyone had left, Venom couldn't wait to take out the chocolate and start eating.
