Jiang Zhen pushed open the car door and stepped out.
Behind him, a dozen or so men spread out expressionlessly, some carrying automatic weapons, others with their hands on the hilts of their knives.
Chapter 98 Tokyo Earthquake
In less than twenty minutes, all available armed forces in Tokyo were deployed here.
Hundreds of black patrol cars from the Metropolitan Police Department and more than a dozen armored fighting vehicles from the Self-Defense Forces surrounded the blood-stained taxi in the center. Fully armed riot police officers erected transparent riot shields, layer upon layer, forming a seemingly impenetrable human wall in the Metropolitan Government Plaza.
Snipers were positioned at every vantage point of the surrounding skyscrapers, with hundreds of infrared crosshairs locking onto the same target from different directions.
The air was filled with the smell of metal and gunpowder.
"This is an ultimatum to the militants inside!"
The Superintendent General of Police stood on the second-floor terrace, his hand gripping the megaphone so tightly his knuckles turned white from the force. Behind him, a group of high-ranking officials held their breath, cold sweat streaming down their faces.
“You have committed an unforgivable crime! This is Tokyo! The administrative center of the Empire! You are facing the steel order of modern civilization!” His voice distorted through the loudspeaker, carrying a shrill, menacing tone. “If you lay down your weapons now and accept trial, international law might still grant you a final shred of dignity!”
Jiang Zhen raised his head. His gaze passed over the layers of gun barrels and shields, piercing straight at the Superintendent General on the terrace.
The dozen or so men behind him remained silent, merely examining their broadswords and firearms. One of them tilted his head, looking upstairs: "Boss, haven't these bastards figured out the situation yet?"
"Let them talk," Jiang Zhen replied calmly. "Only after they've said their last words will their journey be easier."
Seeing that Jiang Zhen had no reaction, the Japanese official on the terrace turned pale and then red with anger.
On the land of Japan, before the center of power, this man showed not even a single glance of fear.
"Jiang Zhen!" The Superintendent's voice turned shrill. "The Cabinet has issued an ultimatum. Do you think you're dealing with some petty thugs? You're dealing with a nation! A nation that 'possesses sovereignty, possesses an army, and has a modern civilized order'!"
He swung his arm down suddenly, and the armored vehicles below all turned their turrets, the muzzles of their machine guns all pointing at Jiang Zhen.
"On behalf of the Japanese government, I hereby formally declare war on you and the illegal organization behind you!"
The Superintendent's voice cracked with rage: "This is not a matter of maintaining order, this is war! We will use every means to completely wipe you out on this land! Even if we have to raze this place to the ground, we will never allow barbaric thugs like you to trample on the dignity of this country!"
"Ready to fire—!"
Inside the Prime Minister's official residence, Prime Minister Koiso stared intently at the scene through the monitor screen. His aged fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles cracked: "Kill him... He must be killed!"
“Bang bang bang bang—!”
Thousands of automatic rifles simultaneously spat fire, their dense trajectories weaving a dark red web of fire through the air. Snipers lying in ambush atop the skyscraper pulled their triggers at the same time, special armor-piercing rounds tearing through the air, heading straight for Jiang Zhen's forehead.
In that instant, the air was completely filled with the sound of exploding ammunition.
Jiang Zhen stood in the center of the barrage of comments, making no attempt to dodge or even blink.
He suddenly clenched his right hand and gave a heavy thud to the void in front of him.
"Crack!"
A crisp sound, like the shattering of a giant mirror, echoed all around.
Under the horrified gaze of all the soldiers, it came again—this terrifying ability caused countless white cracks to appear in the void before Jiang Zhen.
"Om-!"
Every bullet fired at Jiang Zhen, upon touching those white cracks, seemed to have struck an invisible shredder.
The hard lead core and copper sheet instantly disintegrated in mid-air, turning into a mass of pale metallic powder, which was then rolled back into the sky by the aftershocks, forming a strange silver mist.
"Armored vehicle! Don't be afraid! Don't be afraid! Don't be afraid! Ram it! Crush it!" the officer in the back roared desperately.
"Boom—!"
A fully armed armored fighting vehicle suddenly accelerated. The steel monster, weighing over twenty tons, spewed black smoke and, with an impact force capable of crushing walls, madly crushed towards Jiang Zhen.
Jiang Zhen remained unfazed; instead of retreating, he stepped forward.
Just as the armored vehicle's menacing crash bar slammed into him, Jiang Zhen calmly swung his left fist.
"Boom-!!"
The fist made contact with the armored vehicle's steel plate.
Immediately afterwards, a sickening metallic creak echoed throughout the arena. The armored vehicle, touted as being able to withstand machine gun fire, was defeated by Jiang Zhen's fist.
The thick, homogeneous steel armor, tens of millimeters thick, shattered layer by layer, and the front of the vehicle instantly caved in nearly two meters. The massive shockwave spread backward along the chassis, and the rear wheels of the armored vehicle were lifted off the ground. The entire vehicle was blasted into a ball of scrap metal in mid-air, and the crew inside were crushed into a bloody pulp along with the steel before they could even scream.
Jiang Zhen withdrew his fist, the ground beneath his feet was unharmed, and in front of him was only a pile of twisted scrap metal still smoking.
"Amazing, he dared to drive up and hit me. Doesn't he know who I am?" he asked the crowd behind him, puzzled.
The members of the canal gang were speechless. A beat-up car drove straight up to them, making them think it was some kind of secret weapon.
Is that all?
Jiang Zhen stepped onto the wreckage of the armored vehicle, his gaze sweeping coldly over the surroundings.
At that moment, none of the thousands of soldiers and police officers surrounding the square dared to take another step forward. The hands holding guns trembled, and the knees of those holding shields buckled.
Jiang Zhen finally spoke.
His voice wasn't loud, but it drowned out all the sirens and noise, clearly reaching the ears of everyone present.
"Nation? Army? Dignity?"
Jiang Zhen took a step forward.
With that step, a tiny crack appeared in the cement floor, centered on the ball of his foot.
"Did you talk about these things during the invasion? When those officers were dividing up the spoils at home, did they remember how to write the word 'civilization'?"
He took a deep breath, slightly parted his feet, and pressed his hands down into the empty space on either side of him.
"Declare war? You overestimate yourselves."
Jiang Zhen's eyes suddenly became extremely deep, and a terrifying pressure swept out from him. All the mobile team members felt their minds go blank, and the shields they had been holding tightly fell to the ground.
"I will keep moving forward."
Jiang Zhen's voice was as cold as a polar glacier, each word like a heavy hammer striking the hearts of the Japanese.
"Until all enemies are driven out."
The moment he finished speaking, Jiang Zhen's fists, which had been gathering strength for a long time, suddenly slammed into the void on both sides of his body.
"Snap—!"
A crisp sound, like a mirror shattering, rang out in the air.
This was a terrifying moment etched into the history of the Orient.
Before anyone present could react, a force completely outside the realm of human comprehension erupted.
"boom--!!!"
It wasn't the sound of gunfire or cannon fire, but rather the entire space seemed to be wailing.
With the Metropolitan Government Square as the origin, visible tremors spread outwards like a tsunami. The marble paving stones on the square were instantly shattered into dust, and a huge, bottomless crack hundreds of meters long appeared in the center of the square, swallowing up all the police cars and personnel who had not yet evacuated.
But this is just the beginning.
The shockwave, centered on Shinjuku, spread in a fan shape throughout Tokyo with destructive power.
Ginza.
This once-glorious and extravagant center came to an end. The expensive glass curtain walls shattered in pieces under the impact of the earthquake waves, like a crystal-clear rain. The dozens-story shopping mall shook violently, its load-bearing columns cracking under the strain, and the entire building began to tilt and collapse like building blocks.
Shibuya.
The famous intersection bulged upwards, and a massive fissure in the earth tossed the vehicles stuck in the road into the air like toys before slamming them back down. Crowds cried out and fled through the cracks, but under Jiang Zhen's will, the earth left them no place to stand.
Tokyo Bay.
Jiang Zhen's shockwaves reached the seabed. The seawater was instantly churned up, forming giant waves. The tsunami roared towards the coastal factories and docks, sweeping cranes and cargo ships that had not yet been dismantled into the deep sea like pieces of wood.
"Save us! Amaterasu!"
"This is divine punishment! This is divine punishment!"
The entire city of Tokyo descended into utter madness. The once bustling scene was instantly obscured by the swirling dust. Countless people watched in despair as buildings on both sides collapsed towards the center, the rumbling of the earth drowning out all other sounds of civilization.
......
A few minutes later, the tremors gradually subsided.
The entire city of Tokyo fell into an eerie silence, with only the echoes of distant buildings collapsing and explosions coming from who-knows-where.
Jiang Zhen stood atop a pile of ruins, his trench coat swaying in the wind.
The civilization, wealth, and pride that Tokyo had accumulated over countless years were shattered by that man's two fists.
Chapter 99 Individual Will Above the Nation
The outer seas of the East.
The sea breeze on the deck carried a salty, damp chill, seeping into his collar in gusts. But this chill was nothing compared to the icy cold that was creeping up MacArthur's back. His eyes were fixed on the monitor screen, his pupils contracting and dilating violently with each tremor.
At the edge of the horizon, on the land that should be Tokyo, a thick, grayish-white cloud of smoke was rising, obscuring the sky.
That was a cloud of dust formed after millions of tons of reinforced concrete collapsed in an instant. From his perspective, the once well-arranged skyline now seemed to have been swept away in patches by an invisible giant hand. Only the half-collapsed Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in the heart of Shinjuku remained, standing alone in the center of the ruins, like a skinned skeleton.
"General, the earthquake waveform has been detected... This waveform cannot be explained by natural crustal movement."
The adjutant strode forward, his face ashen, holding several freshly developed waveforms in his hand.
MacArthur didn't speak; his hand, which was lighting his pipe, trembled slightly.
He had witnessed the rise of the atomic bomb and thought it was the pinnacle of human warfare. But now, a living, breathing man, standing there, with just his two fists, had accomplished a level of destruction that would have been impossible for several fleet formations and hundreds of bombers to achieve even with unlimited resources and days of saturation attacks.
But what truly sent chills down his spine was not the destruction itself.
It is the precision of this power.
While the entire Shinjuku area was reduced to ruins, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, though dilapidated, miraculously did not completely collapse. It stood like a piece of skinned bone, standing in the deathly silence.
"A new era is coming; the old military balance is completely gone."
MacArthur took a deep drag on his cigarette, the smoke blurring his face. "In front of this man, numbers, fortifications, international law... all become a joke."
"This is not war; it is absolute violence where individual will overrides national will."
