Chapter 5 Ridgeback Turtle

"Quick, move fast!"

"A monster is approaching! Run!"

"Damn monster!"

"Run! Run!"

"I finally found a job, and then this monster ruined it!"

Upon hearing the alarm that the monster was attacking, the entire construction site instantly descended into chaos!

All the workers were evacuating quickly, away from the shadows under the steel bars of the "wall of life," scrambling to board the construction vehicles. Those who lagged behind had to run on foot, and the scene instantly descended into chaos.

People living in this era all know how terrifying monsters are.

They all knew the consequences of being slow at a time like this.

The collapse of the wall of life alone could cost them their lives.

When monsters land, it inevitably brings the deaths of tens of thousands of people. Faced with the monsters' enormous size, humans are far too insignificant. Even if they run desperately, they can only watch helplessly as those giant feet descend from the sky, crushing them into a bloody pulp and turning them into part of the ruins.

In this era, monsters are synonymous with despair!

"Why would a monster choose to come here!?"

"Didn't the news say that monsters are attacking Sydney!?"

The shift leader, Miles, broke down and shouted that his project was not yet completed. If the half-finished Wall of Life was destroyed by the monster, he would never get paid for the rest of his life!

"Get back there, all of you!"

"The alarm going off doesn't mean the monster will definitely come!"

Miles stood on the back of a truck, holding a megaphone, and shouted at the workers who were scattering in all directions.

As the running workers watched the truck pass by, they couldn't help but yell, "Fuck you Miles!"

"You're the fastest one!"

“F*k you too!” Miles’ truck was in the lead, and the other workers’ old construction vehicles couldn’t keep up with him at all. He stood on the truck bed and continued to shout at the people behind him with a contorted face, “My life is worth more than yours!”

No one dared to delay at a time like this.

Even the workers on top of the wall slid down the steel bars to join the main group in escaping this life-saving wall that was closest to the coastline.

"We have to run!"

"Believe me, the horror of the monster is far beyond your imagination."

With his extensive experience in dealing with monsters, Raleigh immediately grabbed Natsuki and ran away with the fleeing group. As they ran, he exhaled white breath and earnestly spoke to Natsuki beside him.

Now, he is not a mecha pilot, but just an ordinary person.

Faced with the attacking monster, they had no power to resist and the only thing they could do was run away as fast as they could.

"Hopefully this guy isn't as strong as Zetton..." Natsuki nodded, following Raleigh as they ran away, all the while hoping that this monster wouldn't add to his workload.

Transforming before even seeing the monster is clearly not a wise move.

Moreover, he had already learned from Raleigh that the enemy was a very strong being.

First, create some distance, and after the monster appears, observe it for a while before considering transforming to fight.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of propellers and engines overhead, as if a helicopter was passing overhead.

The familiar voice immediately caught Raleigh's attention.

He looked up and saw a black military Siskoye helicopter fly over their formation and slowly land in the open space ahead.

The hatch opened, revealing a face he knew all too well.

"Marshal!?" Raleigh exclaimed in astonishment. The newcomer was none other than his former superior, the man who led a group of Jaegers in a counterattack against the monsters, Steker Pentecost!

Why are you here!?

He couldn't understand why Marshal Stark would appear before him at such a crucial moment.

I'll explain later!

"Come on up!" Field Marshal Stark waved to Raleigh, his anxious expression in the snowstorm, gesturing for him to board the helicopter.

Raleigh plays a crucial role in the subsequent plans, and there can be absolutely no mistakes here; otherwise, the future of all humanity will suffer.

Knowing that time was of the essence, Raleigh and Natsuki exchanged a glance and nodded, then ran together toward where the helicopter was parked.

The shouts of fleeing workers, the shrill sirens, the roar of propellers and engines, the crunch of boots on the snowy road—all these sounds converged at this moment, creating an incredibly noisy cacophony.

A tremendous sound took over the main theme, drowning out all other sounds.

The waters of the Gulf of Alaska arched up, and a colossal creature broke through the surface, sending waves crashing against the half-built Wall of Life.

With a series of thumping vibrations, everyone could see a huge figure through the gaps in the steel bars of the Wall of Life. A hideous head was particularly conspicuous, and corrosive saliva dripped from its gaping maw.

"Whoa-"

The monster turned its six green eyes, its gaze fixed on the black helicopter behind the Wall of Life, and on Raleigh Beckett, who was running toward the helicopter at high speed. It let out a roar, raised its thick arms, and aimed them at the Wall of Life in front of it.

With two punches, the unfinished Wall of Life collapsed and shattered, concrete and steel bars flying wildly in the wind and snow. This wall, on which humanity had placed so much hope, was now no different from a piece of foam board!

"It's here, it's here!"

"God, please don't catch up with me!"

After the wall collapsed, the fleeing people were able to see the monster in its entirety.

It crawled with its thick limbs, its skin was dark green and every inch looked incredibly tough, its tail stirred up the seawater and made waves surge, its body and movements were like those of a giant gorilla, but its mountain-like arched back and its head, which resembled a mixture of seashells and coral, revealed its identity as a monster.

Ridgeback Turtle (Level 4 Monster)

This is a level 4 monster named "Prismback Turtle" by the Shattered Dome Base!

It trampled over the fragments of the Wall of Life, landed on the shore, and kept approaching the black helicopter. Every step it took trembled in everyone's hearts.

Seeing Raleigh getting closer and closer to the helicopter, it realized that its target was likely to escape.

Then, after a thunderous roar, its mountain-like back instantly lit up—its weapon specifically designed to deal with humans.

After a brief accumulation of energy, a powerful electromagnetic pulse spread out in a ring with a "hum," causing snowflakes in the air to swirl and fly, and the collapsed Wall of Life was ravaged a second time. Marshal Stark's helicopter was completely rendered inoperable!

People who ran further away were also hit by the shockwave and fell to the ground. Fortunately, the attack was directed at the machinery and did not take their lives.

However, they are not far from death. The hunter mechs have not yet been transported here, and sooner or later they will be crushed into mincemeat by the monsters!

Chapter 6 The Giant Emerging from the Light

"EMP!?"

"This monster can actually unleash EMP attacks!?" Marshal Stark, inside the helicopter, looked at the completely malfunctioning instruments and gazed at the monster in the distance outside the hatch, speaking in disbelief.

"Everyone disembark and prepare to evacuate!" Seeing the monster approaching this way by stepping over the ruins of the Wall of Life, he quickly made a judgment and ordered all the pilots and guards in the plane to disembark.

They hurriedly evacuated from the cabin.

The soldiers, armed with guns, escorted Marshal Stark away into the distance.

"Follow me, Raleigh!" Marshal Stark also shouted out his mission.

At the same time, they prayed in their hearts that the monster's target would not be them.

The supporting mechs won't arrive for a while, and for the rest of the time we'll have to rely on ourselves.

"Xia! Let's go!" Raleigh was originally preparing to evacuate with Marshal Stark, but when he turned around and saw that Xia Shu was not moving, he shouted.

Natsuki heard his voice.

But they still showed no sign of leaving.

Instead, he said something that left Raleigh speechless.

"This monster... could it be just a showpiece?"

Xia Shu squinted at the ruins beneath the ridge-backed turtle's feet, staring at the damage caused by its movement, and tentatively spoke.

The commotion caused by the monster breaking through the water's surface was considerable.

However, after getting ashore, each movement did not cause significant dents in the ground.

In Xia Shu's understanding, this monster, which was estimated to be over 80 meters tall, must weigh at least 50,000 tons. However, the pressure it exerted on the ground during its movement clearly did not match this figure.

Their weights all appear to be less than 10,000 tons.

This is strange.

Are the monsters in this universe completely different from the monsters I've encountered before?

"Don't just stand there, Xia!"

Raleigh's anxious calls from behind pulled at his thoughts.

"There's no escaping this distance."

"Whether this thing is a mere showpiece or not, we can only stop it here."

Natsuki didn't turn around, but stared intently at the huge monster in front of her that had the characteristics of both a gorilla and a turtle.

As the other person bent down, muscles twitched beneath their dark skin, and they approached.

He began by saying, "Although we can obtain more information by observing for a while, it is clearly not worth sacrificing most people to obtain this information."

"You evacuate first, and I will try my best to buy you time."

Xia Shu gripped the black bracelet on her right wrist with her left hand, her expression serious, having already made her decision.

Although he usually likes to slack off and has a frivolous attitude towards work, he never forgets the sense of justice in his heart when lives are truly at stake.

Of course, this justice is the justice he defines himself—unrestrained justice.

"What!?"

"Are you crazy!?" Raleigh couldn't believe that this guy could say such a thing after seeing a monster.

Without mechs or large-scale firearms, what is this guy going to use to fight the monsters?
