Chapter 33 Departure

Everyone at the base knew about the accident.

They both shared the same thought: these two people were not suited to pilot mechs.

Despite Raleigh's best efforts to explain that it was his fault, the undeniable fact remains that Mako Mori's immersion in memories caused the dangerous wanderer to lose control.

The next plan absolutely cannot go wrong, otherwise everything they have will turn into nothing.

Inside Marshal Strick's office.

"No further explanation is needed."

"I gave you both permission to participate in the test," Marshal Stark said in a deep voice, looking at Raleigh and Mako Mori in front of him.

There was an inescapable solemnity between his brows.

“That’s not the point,” Raleigh explained. “This is Mako’s first time participating in synesthesia. She just needs time. She’ll definitely be able to adjust next time.”

Unlike his experienced self, Raleigh knew the feeling of empathizing with someone for the first time; normal people couldn't adapt quickly enough, and unexpected things were normal.

"Next time?" Marshal Strucker's expression grew even more serious. "How many more times do you think we have?"

"The frequency of monster attacks has changed. If we don't hurry, the next time we might face level 5... level 6... or even higher level monsters."

"You two almost destroyed this base."

"Everyone has seen the test results, and the pilots of the other mechs have already conveyed their stance to me: they cannot accept carrying out missions with you."

Hansen reacted particularly strongly to the results of the test, stating his full opposition to the Dangerous Gipsys participating in the operation. The pilots of the other two Jaegers also expressed the same attitude, as they did not want any accidents to occur during the mission.

Sometimes, out-of-control teammates are more terrifying than enemies.

What they are doing is saving the world, and this is something that cannot tolerate any mistakes, especially such big ones.

Upon hearing this, Raleigh pursed his lips helplessly, clenching his fists but finding no way to clench them.

Mako Mori, standing to the side, kept her head down, ashamed to face her father.

"So... what's the point of you calling me here?" Raleigh asked again after a few breaths, looking somewhat puzzled. "You said you needed me here, so I came."

"And the result is that you're not going to let me participate in the subsequent missions?"

I arrived at the base yesterday, participated in testing today, and after the testing was over, they said they no longer needed me?

Isn't this a joke?

"No." Marshal Steker gently shook his head.

“I don’t mean I don’t need you, but…” He shifted his gaze to Mako Mori.

He should act as a marshal at this time, rather than a father.

Raleigh was able to adjust in time when he encountered problems with synesthesia, but Mako Mori got stuck in her past memories and almost caused a disaster.

He can no longer let Mako Mori into the mecha.

"I understand," Mako Mori said, her eyes red and her head trembling as she lowered her head.

After that, I made a decision in my heart.

With difficulty, she raised her head, looked at Marshal Stark, and slowly said, "Mori Mako... requests to leave the plan."

For her, piloting a mecha has been her dream for many years. She wants to use the mecha to kill the monsters with her own hands and avenge her family who have died.

She chose to give it all up.

"...Permission," Marshal Stark said, looking at her. Despite his reluctance, he still uttered those two words.

Upon hearing the two words she had expected, Mako Mori trembled again.

At this moment, she had lost the right to pilot the mecha.

She bowed gently to her father, tears falling to the ground with the movement, along with her thoughts and feelings.

He then turned around and left the office.

“How could you…?” Raleigh watched her departing figure, wanting to stop her, but in the end he lowered his raised hand, turned his head, looked at Marshal Stark, and voiced his doubt.

“I know she is your daughter. I saw it in her memories.” Rory saw what happened back then in Mako Mori’s memories. He knew that Mako Mori was the marshal’s adopted daughter.

“You used to be an instructor at the Hunter Mech Academy, you know this is something a pilot should go through, why not try to trust her again?”

"You're not protecting her, you're harming her."

Having experienced synesthesia, he now fully understands Mori Mako's feelings at this moment, and knows her dream of avenging her family.

“I’ve said it before, we don’t have time,” Marshal Stark replied.

"Is it really that much more time we need?" Raleigh asked again.

This time, Field Marshal Steker did not answer.

Instead, she looked at him with a serious expression.

“Don’t mistake my calmness for a lack of temper, Mr. Beckett,” he said coldly.

At this moment, facing Marshal Stark like this, Raleigh seemed to have returned to the days when he was scolded in the academy.

He was speechless for a moment.

"No one is allowed to act without my orders."

"Now, get out."

Field Marshal Strick issued an ultimatum.

Raleigh opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end he gave up, turned around helplessly, and left the office.

Marshal Strickland sighed.

He said to the last person in the room, "I'm sorry, Mr. Natsuki, I'm sorry you had to see this."

"In addition, I would also like to thank you for your timely intervention at the crucial moment."

Wearing a green floral shirt, Natsuki stood with her arms crossed on one side of the office, listening to the entire conversation.

The Shaolin Ranger's test was completed when the Dangerous Wanderer sent it for routine maintenance. With his telekinesis and a little piloting knowledge, he easily managed to pilot the mech alone.

The other mech pilots unanimously agreed to let Shaolin Ranger replace Dangerous Wanderer in his original position, given the fact that it had just happened.

"You're welcome."

“After all, I promised you I wouldn’t let anything unexpected happen,” Natsuki said.

"But are you really sure you want to keep them on standby?"

He could tell that Raleigh wanted to fight, and at the moment, the only suitable partner for Raleigh was Mako Mori.

Letting Mako Mori withdraw is tantamount to abandoning the dangerous wanderer.

“This is a last resort,” Marshal Stark said. “I believe Mako can get used to driving in a short time, but... it’s hard for people’s trust to be restored in a short time.”

The key issue isn't whether Mako Mori can get used to piloting a mecha, but whether the other mecha pilots can accept them after this major mistake.

"Therefore, the follow-up plan requires you, Mr. Xia Shu, to drive the Shaolin Ranger and replace the Dangerous Wanderer in its original position."

Although the dangerous wanderer was unable to participate in the operation, fortunately, he and Natsuki had reached an agreement in advance.

"Tonight, we will finalize the division of tasks."

"Then we'll execute the plan tomorrow morning."

Marshal Strickland wanted to resolve this disaster as soon as possible.

“Okay.” Natsuki nodded.

Chapter 34 The Transmigrator Who Came to the Door

Raleigh arrived at the restaurant, had just gotten his food, and was about to find a place to sit down.

Turning my head, I saw countless eyes staring at me.

The Eureka Raiders' pilots... the Crimson Storm's pilots... the Cherno Alpha's pilots... they looked at themselves, without uttering a sound.

But at this moment, he had already heard what they were thinking.

He knew that for most people, the Dangerous Wanderers' mistake was not just a technical error; they had almost died in the base.

They no longer welcome them; their eyes say it all.

"What are you standing there for? Find a place to sit down." At that moment, a familiar voice suddenly rang out beside me.

He looked in the direction from which the sound came.

Wearing a floral shirt, Natsuki was carrying two plates in her hands, with six more plates floating behind her, waiting for her to find a place to sit down first.

The people in the base weren't particularly surprised by Natsuki's casual use of telekinesis. They had gotten somewhat used to having an eccentric alien in the base who had saved their lives during the afternoon's test, and that was enough.

“I…” Raleigh hesitated.

To be honest, he didn't really want to eat at the restaurant.

He knew he had made a mistake and could understand that they didn't welcome him.

However, this atmosphere made him feel very uncomfortable, and he wanted to find a place to hide, at least for a while.

"Or shall we go outside?" Xia Shu saw through his embarrassment and suggested before he could speak. "Sometimes, the food tastes better when you eat in a different place."

"That's called novelty."

As Natsuki spoke, she took the lead and walked outside, followed by six floating plates.

Upon hearing this, Raleigh was stunned for a moment.

Overwhelmed with complex emotions, he didn't know how to express them, and could only say, "Thank you."

Even after witnessing his own mistake, this guy didn't despise himself.

He followed Natsuki and left the restaurant that made him feel depressed.
