"The laboratory is just ahead."
"Our three doctors will tell you about our detailed plan later."
Marshal Stark spoke as he walked.
"We are prepared for a do-or-die battle."
"Everything is for the purpose of ending this apocalypse."
Chapter 24 Crouching Dragon and Young Phoenix
"According to my prediction, only one monster should have appeared yesterday. Why did a second one appear?"
"This is completely unreasonable!"
"Is it unreasonable? I think it's perfectly reasonable, because your reasoning and formula are completely wrong!"
As Natsuki followed Marshal Stark to a rusty steel gate, they heard a quarrel coming from inside.
In the laboratory behind the door, two men were arguing. Natsuki didn't need to use his Ultra Vision to guess that they were two of the three doctors that Marshal Stark was about to introduce to him.
"Are all the scientists here this lively?" Xia Shu looked at Marshal Stark and raised an eyebrow as she asked.
In his mind, scientists were all calm and intelligent, and most of them were rather naive.
Well...except for a certain Babar.
“You know, scientists’ thinking is usually quite jumpy.” Marshal Stark’s expression was a little unnatural, but he still shrugged his shoulders to show his helplessness.
With that, he entered the password and opened the laboratory door.
Upon entering, one sees a space whose overall style has been divided into two halves, with the lighting still rather dim.
To the left of the laboratory are a large number of scientific instruments connected to pipes, as well as many traditional books and blackboards with complex formulas written on them, making it look like a physics laboratory.
To the right of the laboratory are a large number of monster internal organs, some placed on the lab table, some in sealed jars, and equipment resembling surgical instruments scattered around, making it look like a biological laboratory.
Two scientists with vastly different styles, two labs pieced together – the overall effect is somewhat chaotic.
"Couldn't you have built two separate laboratories?" Xia Shu's first reaction upon seeing the chaotic laboratory was to ask Marshal Stark why he didn't have two laboratories.
Whether it was the conversation just now or the difference in their experimental styles, even a layman like him could see that these two were completely incompatible.
"Well... sometimes we have to consider some practical issues." Marshal Stark said, his hands behind his back, his brow furrowed, as if he had something difficult to say.
"Speak like a human being," Xia Shu said directly.
Natsuki: "......"
What a practical problem.
The two of them shared a laboratory not for any other reason than because they didn't have enough funds; they spent most of their budget on the mechs.
“In China, there’s a saying: ‘Good steel should be used on the blade.’” Marshal Stark said eloquently, “Sometimes, two geniuses coming together can spark a burst of inspiration.”
"While we do have funding issues, this arrangement doesn't stem entirely from that problem." His words were full of logic.
Hearing him say that, Xia Shu was filled with respect.
What a convenient way to make being broke sound so reasonable.
He truly deserves to be a marshal.
The two entered the laboratory, and the two scientists stopped their usual bickering and turned their attention to this side.
One of them was wearing a white suit and shirt with a black tie on his chest. His forearm was covered in a monster tattoo. He had short brown hair combed up and a pair of curious eyes behind black-rimmed glasses. He sat next to the experimental table of monster entrails and looked like a biological science PhD who was obsessed with monsters.
Another PhD student in science and engineering, dressed in a black suit, stood between several blackboards covered with symbols, leaning on a wooden cane. He wasn't wearing glasses, and his features were rather compact. Both his expression and posture made him seem somewhat neurotic, leading one to think that he was a typical obsessive-compulsive physicist.
Herman (left) and Newton (right)
"Let me introduce you," Field Marshal Strucker gestured to Natsuki, "Newton Geizler and Herman Gottlieb, our two excellent doctors."
He then introduced the two doctors: "This is Mr. Natsuki, whom I mentioned to you earlier. He is a guest from outer space and also an important partner in our upcoming plans."
Upon hearing the word "aliens," the two doctors' eyes lit up instantly.
“He looks almost no different from a human!” Newton’s curiosity was piqued. He dropped the monster’s entrails in his hand, jogged a few steps, and came up to Natsuki to examine him closely.
His expression suggested he had discovered some treasure.
“You’re all so careless!” Herman’s reaction was the complete opposite of Newton’s. He picked up the gas mask hanging on the wall of his work area and shakily put it on his head.
Only then did he hob towards Natsuki, leaning on his crutches.
"Monsters are all poisonous creatures, so we should take basic protective measures when making contact with aliens."
The two PhDs gathered around Xia Shu, carefully examining every detail of her.
"How is that possible?"
"Are there really aliens in this world who look exactly like humans?"
"Is it a scientific disguise? Like a human skin mask?"
"No, there's no sign of any faking; these are all original products."
"The marshal said you can transform into a giant over fifty meters tall. How did you do that?"
"What is the principle behind this? How can a body that is over fifty meters tall be condensed into the size of a human? This is completely contrary to our understanding of science."
"Could this be the path of human evolution? Will humans evolve into giants over fifty meters tall after reaching a certain stage of evolution?"
"how is this possible?"
"That kind of thing is impossible for any carbon-based organism."
"Then how do you explain his current state?"
"Explanation? Why should I explain to you?"
"With just a little research, I'm sure I can crack the mystery. Then you can keep playing with that pile of useless theories by yourself!"
The pair of sleeping dragons and phoenix chicks stared at Xia Shu for a while, then seemed about to start arguing again, all within a minute.
Watching the two perform, both Natsuki and Marshal Steker were speechless.
These two guys are a real handful.
"Ahem!" Marshal Strucker spoke up just before the two started arguing, interrupting their spellcasting with a light cough.
"Gentlemen, we have guests here today." He glanced at the pair of brilliant minds, his tone earnest.
Only after hearing what he said did the two of them belatedly realize what he meant.
"Sorry, we were just curious. After all, we've never seen a living alien before," Newton said with an awkward smile to Natsuki.
"The Marshal said I should introduce you to the intelligence we have gathered. Please wait a moment; this is my specialty." Herman twitched his cheek, straightened his collar, and said to Xia Shu in a serious tone.
"Wait, I should be the one to speak first!" Newton protested.
"You two take turns!" Field Marshal Strick took a deep breath, feeling his blood pressure rising, and immediately said in a commanding tone, "Hermann first, Newton, you wait a moment!"
"Yes, Sir!" *2
The two men shuddered and immediately stood at attention.
Chapter 25 The Person Who Did Not Exist
"You should already know that monsters exist in this world."
Herman pulled off his gas mask, limped along with his cane, and led Natsuki to several blackboards, talking as they walked.
"The first monster had already entered the human world in 2013."
He stood in front of the blackboard, turned around, pointed to a monster pattern on the blackboard with his cane, and spoke very quickly.
The subtle movements that accompanied his narration made him appear as if he had mild epilepsy, perhaps the price of intelligence.
"Analysis of the corpses of the first monster and the subsequent monsters revealed that these monsters were poisonous. The acidic substances in their blood could cause irreversible damage to the human body once they were released into the air."
"Based on the monsters' size, strength, and toxicity, we also made a simple classification for them."
"From Level 1 monsters to the current Level 4 monsters, the higher the level, the more dangerous they are."
"The two monsters that appeared in Sydney and Sitka yesterday, the Virus and the Ridgeback Turtle, are two Level 4 monsters."
"They all emerged from the gaps in the Pacific seabed, moved all the way to land, and wreaked havoc."
Hermann pulled over another blackboard, which was covered with densely packed formulas that made one's head spin.
"This is a formula I derived based on the frequency of monster appearances."
"From 2013 at the beginning to 2025 now, the frequency of monster appearances has been increasing."
"From a yearly cycle... to a monthly cycle... and then to a seven-day cycle, following this trend, they will soon be pouring out of the gaps without interruption, just like ants swarming out of an anthill!"
When he got to this point, his speaking speed finally returned to normal, and his expression became somewhat puzzled.
"According to my formula, only one monster should have appeared yesterday, but in fact there was a double attack, which is completely illogical."
"Human language can lie, but numbers never lie; they are something people can trust unconditionally."
"So I suspect that something might have happened to the guys behind the gap who are controlling the monsters."
"We should speed things up, or more unexpected things might happen."
As he spoke, he went to a piece of equipment.
Press the button on the side, and a blue holographic projection will appear.
“Look here,” he said, pointing to the red spiral tunnel in the projection.
"This is the passage used by aliens to drop monsters onto Earth, also known as the 'gap.' My plan is to have the mech carry a powerful nuclear bomb and drop it through the gap into the aliens' base."
“Then…Boom!” He made an exaggerated gesture. “In the best-case scenario, this nuclear bomb could kill all the aliens, and at the very least, it would destroy the breach, preventing them from sending any more monsters over.”
After listening to him, Xia Shu nodded.
The plan sounds a bit crude, but he believes it's more reasonable than simply building a wall.
Then he looked at Newton.
"Tell me your thoughts on monsters, Mr. Newton."
