Fortunately, as a chosen one, he had seen all sorts of storms and even chatted and laughed with the avatars of the Outer Gods. In comparison, Sia and Drizzt of this world were far too young.

This situation most likely indicates that something happened on the island, either the awakening of an Old One or the mischief of an evil god; it certainly cannot be due to abnormal weather causing the dense fog.

Moreover, what Lu Ban had just experienced in the bar made him quite certain that supernatural forces were influencing the island.

Those tourists were just the beginning. Whether it was from eating the food here or some other influence, if they continued to stay here, they or the people around them might be alienated.

Thinking of this, Lu Ban gagged himself again and vomited up everything he had just drunk. Even so, his esophagus and stomach still felt a strong burning sensation. There must be some residue left. He wondered if gills or webbed feet would grow out of it.

"The hotel should be in this direction, let's hurry."

Drizzt pointed ahead and said that the fog had become even thicker, and even the inn was barely visible. Only the streetlights at the entrance, like lighthouses in the darkness, guided the way.

There wasn't a single person on the street.

Sia couldn't help but say.

"You should try harder too?"

Lu Ban subconsciously replied.

"Ok?"

Xia looked at him, puzzled, then seemed to remember something and muttered to herself.

"Yes, we need to step up our efforts."

Lu Ban immediately looked around. Fortunately, there weren't many private cars on the island, and there were no black luxury cars on the street, so a group of men in black wouldn't suddenly appear and shoot Trist.

Walking through the mist, Drizzt felt a wave of damp heat.

The mist was like the steam from boiling seawater, filled with a fishy smell and very sticky. When it clung to your body, it felt like stepping out of a steamer, making you feel unbearably hot and humid.

He and Lu Ban kept a distance of one person from Xi Ya, confirming each other's presence in the gradually thickening fog.

After walking for about five minutes, Trist sensed that something was wrong.

"Have you noticed that we seem to have been walking for quite a while?"

He asked.

From the distance I just saw from the hotel, it should only be a few hundred meters, more than a five-minute walk.

But now it seems that the hotel is still far away, and it looks like it will take another ten minutes or so to get there.

This feeling is like a mirage in the desert, leaving one feeling bewildered.

"Could this hotel be a hallucination?"

Lu Ban looked at it carefully; it was so lifelike, it was as if there really was a hotel there.

"Uncle Cui, does your cell phone still have a signal?"

Xia took out her phone, checked her signal, and then turned on the camera flash to use as a flashlight.

The light pierced through the swirling mist and illuminated the nearby streets.

"No."

Trist also took a look with his phone. He saw that the houses around the street looked very dilapidated, with many mottled scratches on the walls. The signs in front of the shops looked like they had been submerged in water for a long time, with a dark color and rust. This street did not look like a place where people lived, but rather like a long-destroyed ruin.

Lu Ban turned around and found that the eerie bar had disappeared into the fog at some point and could no longer be seen.

He walked to the nearest shop and discovered it was the restaurant where they had eaten that afternoon.

Looking inside through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the tables and chairs were overturned and the place was in complete disarray, as if it had been robbed.

Lu Ban reached out and touched the glass. The cold, sticky texture on the glass felt like it was coated with glue. He withdrew his finger and saw some transparent dew on his fingertip. The viscosity of these droplets was obviously not that of ordinary water. He sniffed it and found it had a salty, damp smell.

Resisting the urge to taste it, Lu Ban wiped it away.

After all, I'm not the same person I used to be. Eating random things can really kill me. Before I figure out what's going on here, I should be careful and cautious.

As a cautious person who plans things carefully before acting, Lu Ban turned around and did not try to go into the restaurant.

But when he turned around, he found that Trist and Sia were gone.

"Old Cui? Xi Ya?"

Lu Ban called out twice, but only the thick fog answered him.

He listened carefully, trying to hear if Xia and the others had unknowingly wandered off, but the streets were completely silent at night.

No, it is not silence.

Lu Ban heard soft, murmured whispers in the sea mist.

The murmur was like a dream from the depths of the sea, full of profound, indifferent, and frenzied qualities, evoking a strong sense of loneliness and madness.

On this quiet street, these murmurs echoed in Lu Ban's mind like fingernails scratching at a blackboard.

He thought about it and realized he couldn't just sit there and wait to die, so he decided to head towards the hotel.

So, Lu Ban started walking again.

The flickering lights at the hotel entrance pierced through the mist, quickly becoming the only landmark in Lu Ban's view of the world.

He felt a stickiness on the ground and looked down to find it wet, as if a water truck had just passed by. The water was similar to the liquid on the restaurant windows, like glue. Stepping on it felt like stepping on a puddle of mud after the rain.

I Have a Scroll of Ghost and Deity Illustrations

This might be what many people on certain social media platforms refer to as the feeling of stepping on poop.

Lu Ban stomped on it twice more.

He continued forward, but the streetlight showed no sign of approaching.

A writer once described death as walking down the road and encountering a wall that stretches infinitely in all directions, with no end in sight.

Lu Ban can now walk in all directions, but the only beacon he has left is the street lamp ahead. If he continues walking like this, it will be no different from death.

He called out a few more times, but there was no response except for the muttering in his ear.

He took a few steps, and suddenly, his pocket trembled.

Lu Ban reached out and touched it, only to find it was his own phone.

The phone vibrated, emitting a pleasant ringtone that echoed through the quiet street.

Lu Ban saw that there was an incoming call display.

It was Amber who called.

Chapter 923 Yandere

Lu Ban instinctively reached for the phone.

But just as his finger was on the answer button, Lu Ban suddenly remembered something.

My phone has had no signal for a long time, so why am I able to receive calls?

He looked at the signal bar at the top of his phone, where a clear cross was displayed.

Then this phone call is highly questionable.

The cheerful default ringtone echoed in the fog, creating a distorted and inverted feeling. Lu Ban waited a few seconds, but the phone kept ringing. He then pressed the answer button.

Lu Ban held the phone to his ear and heard a voice coming from the other end.

Is it Lu Ban?

Amber's voice was gentle, like a ray of sunshine in this foggy weather.

"it's me."

Lu Ban replied that he could hear the other person's breathing, which sounded very real.

"Where are you? It's all dark here, like there's a power outage."

Amber's voice was tinged with unease, like that of a kitten in distress.

"Don't worry."

Lu Ban said something and looked around. The fog seemed to have changed due to the breeze. The lights ahead were still flashing, but they had become much clearer.

He saw the hotel sign, as if it were right next to him, within reach.

"I'm a little scared about when you're coming back."

Amber's voice trembled slightly, which was pitiful.

"Don't worry."

Lu Ban said calmly.

"Why are you so cold? Are you going to abandon us?"

Amber suddenly spoke, her voice tinged with anxiety and panic.

"Please, don't abandon us, don't leave us, okay?"

Her voice turned pleading, filled with anxiety and a touch of madness.

"I know, you've changed. You don't want to come back. You never wanted to be with us from the beginning!"

Suddenly, Amber's voice took on a sickly yet charming quality.

"Don't rush, I know you're in a hurry, but just don't rush."

As Lu Ban spoke, he walked toward the inn and found himself already at the inn's entrance.

"How did you become like this? You weren't like this before. Have you found someone else outside? Who is she?"

Amber's voice was completely distorted, hysterical, like that of a crazed madman.

Lu Ban took the phone away and looked at the call screen, where a ferocious face was gradually emerging.

That was Amber's face, twisted and grotesque by jealousy and anger.

The face seemed to appear at any moment, changing within Lu Ban's phone, almost as if it were about to pop out.

Lu Ban hung up the phone.

Lu Ban felt a little dampness as he pressed his fingers on the screen.

He removed his fingers and found blood.
