There are two eyes on each side, located where human eyes should be. Those eyes are long and narrow, like slits, giving a strange feeling.

"■■■■■".

Another voice came from the cabin entrance; it seemed to be in yet another language.

Feng Yu thoughtfully translated it again.

"This thing has no power, so we can't move it."

Lu Ban looked over and saw another humanoid, or rather, humanoid creature. The creature was wrapped in black bandages, its body was withered and thin, its face was covered in black mist, and only one eye shone with a green glow.

"Do we have to swim there?"

A third voice rang out from beside Lu Ban.

He looked over and saw a creature resembling a fish-man, with dark green, sticky, and slippery skin. Its two vertical pupils observed the island. Its body was covered in scales, and its hands and feet had fin-like structures. It also had a long fish tail and seemed to be quite adept at swimming.

These three "people" appear to be chosen ones from other deities.

"Break the seal?"

Lu Ban overheard their conversation and sensed something was amiss.

If these people are chosen ones, then they should have brought certain people with them here. From these exchanges, it seems that their mission is to... break the seal of some evil god.

Octopus 298, Bandage, Four-Eyes

What is sealed inside the temple where this obelisk stands? Lu Ban didn't even need to think about it; it must be something that's not good for this world.

Even if the other party has no good intentions or malice, and simply wants to come out, the mere appearance of this island will cause a huge storm covering half of the Pacific Ocean. If they actually come out, that would be terrible!

For both emotional and rational reasons, Lu Ban could not allow these guys to land on the island.

However, Lu Ban was unsure of the opponent's strength. Since he was practically invisible under Feng Yu's power, he could observe from the sidelines and gather some information.

Lu Ban's only worry right now is that if Feng Yu colludes with these guys to deceive him, creating an "Emperor's New Clothes" scenario where Lu Ban thinks he's invisible but he isn't, and these people pretend not to see him while putting on an act, then it would be awkward.

He had no choice but to trust Feng Yu.

The old squad leader probably wouldn't betray himself, I suppose.

"At least you still have some conscience, otherwise all the effort I put into saving you would have been in vain."

Feng Yu's voice suddenly came, startling Lu Ban.

Can you read my mind?

Lu Ban couldn't help but ask in return.

"Your thoughts are written all over your face, do I need to read them?"

Feng Yu scoffed.

"That's true."

Lu Ban's expression and what words were written on his face were probably less clear to Feng Yu than he was to himself.

It's said that a mother is like a tapeworm in her son's stomach, knowing everything he thinks. Feng Yu can now truly be considered a tapeworm in Lu Ban's stomach.

The three men gazed at the island from the deck ahead, whispering amongst themselves.

"This mission is so difficult it's reached the level of [Alienation]. It's hard to imagine what kind of dangers might exist in such an environment."

The guy, whose body was wrapped in bandages, spoke like a band's lead singer with electronic music added, his voice echoing.

Lu Ban decided to name him Bandage Man.

"Why is this ship here? We were supposed to be entering the ruins to find the seal, so why did we suddenly end up on this ship?"

The fishman seemed to be the least experienced of the three, and his speech was hesitant and uncertain.

Lu Ban decided to call the fishmen fishmen.

"Our biggest challenge right now is getting this thing moving, or should we just swim over there?"

The man with four eyes patted the railing of the ship and asked tentatively.

Lu Ban decided to call him Four-Eyes.

During the conversation between the three, Lu Ban stood by and listened attentively.

From their conversation, we can learn that these three people are indeed chosen ones. Their gods also have a system similar to the Silent Land, and their mission this time is to break the seal of some indescribable great being in the island's temple.

Meanwhile, the difficulty of their mission this time is [Alienation], which is the highest difficulty mission Lu Ban has ever encountered.

"A mission of [Alienation] difficulty. It looks like this place is fraught with danger. I need to be careful."

Lu Ban muttered to himself. He looked into the sea. His vision from [True Vision] pierced through the surface and revealed the deep blue ocean that sunlight could not penetrate. Lu Ban glanced around and saw no strange creatures within fifty meters of the surface.

In reality, when a storm arrives, most fish will dive to deeper waters to avoid the waves, while whales and dolphins will struggle to leave the typhoon area. Those that are unlucky will simply float to the surface.

"Could danger be hidden in this ghost ship?"

Lu Ban was curious. According to Feng Yu, she had also boarded this ghost ship and suffered severe pollution and corrosion. So, what extremely dangerous things must exist on this ship?

"There is a monster from another world on this ship. I don't know who put it here, but it is very troublesome. Don't put yourself in complete darkness."

Feng Yu reminded him.

For a monster to cause someone like Feng Yu, who possesses the ability to bypass most things, to suffer such a great loss, it must be incredibly powerful.

Lu Ban conjured up his "Last Words" in his hand.

“These ships must have a propulsion system. I’ll go check it out; that’s my specialty. What do you guys think?”

The person with the bandages asked.

"I'll stay here and see how things go; the storm might change."

The bespectacled guy didn't seem to want to go into that dark cabin.

"I...I'll go with you."

The fishman caught up with the bandaged man.

"Split up is a big no-no in horror movies."

Lu Ban commented that if this were a regular horror movie, the director would be considered too kind if the two of them found the four-eyed guy's corpse when they returned. In most cases, the one who was left alone would definitely suffer a terrible fate.

He chose to follow the bandaged man.

Lu Ban was also curious about what was on the ship and why the monster was there.

It's already strange that they were teleported directly from the ruins of Pohnpei Island to this ship. Why didn't the god who sent the Chosen Ones to this world just drop them off at the temple gate instead of Pohnpei Island?

Just like Lu Ban, some tasks don't involve going straight to the final boss; there's always a process involved. This process might seem normal and reasonable at first glance, but what is the significance of such a problematic intermediate process for the gods?

As the sunlight gradually thinned out, once inside the corridor, all that remained was endless darkness, except for glimpses of the azure sea through the round windows and the ever-approaching wall of wind.

Fortunately, it wasn't completely dark here; you could still see the road.

The doors to the rooms along the way were all open, and various things were placed inside, as if the owner had just left.

Lu Ban could see the clean clothes, the half-empty wine glass, the open book, and the television that was still on but had only static.

The bandaged man and the fishman walked in front, with Lu Ban following behind, making them look like a trio at first glance.

"I feel like something's not right up ahead."

The bandaged man suddenly stopped.

The fishman was startled and quickly stopped as well.

Lu Ban was a little slow and was about to collide with the fishman.

Just as Lu Ban made contact with him, the fishman's back forcibly bypassed Lu Ban, and he was thrown to the side as if he had been pushed away.

bang——

The merman crashed into the corridor wall, letting out a painful howl.

"what happened?"

The bandaged man turned around alertly, only to see the fishman crashing into the corridor as if against his own will.

"I...I don't know, something pushed me..."

The fishman immediately defended himself.

But when he looked behind him, he found there was nothing there.

A chill ran down his spine.

The bandaged man made the merman take two steps back, and then stretched out his own bandaged hand, the black mist-like arm sweeping across the spot where Lu Ban was.

"...Nothing at all?"

The bandaged man withdrew his arm, a question flickering in his single eye.

Chapter 299 [Ode to the Past]

Are you scaring yourself?

The bandaged man asked a question, but did not withdraw his hand. Instead, some gray substance escaped from between his fingers. The substance drifted in the wind like grains of sand leaking from between his fingers, spreading towards the corridor.

If someone were standing there, the smoke would reveal their figure; this was an extraordinary power honed by the bandaged race over a long period of time.

However, to the bandage-wearing man's surprise, no one was revealed even as the corridor was filled with gray smoke.

Only the boy in the classical oil painting hanging on the wall grinned, mocking the bandaged man's foolishness.

Be careful.

The bandaged man let the fishman go first, and slowly moved towards the depths of the corridor.

Lu Ban, standing in the room, took a light breath.

"I was so scared, I almost got caught."

He sighed.

"...That's really terrible."

Feng Yu read it aloud in a monotone, emotionless voice.
