"It's been a long time, Violet."
A Ralf-style cold face meets a Ralf-style smile.
"Two years and six months, old dog."
This woman was like a blooming carnivorous flower. To Lyle's surprise, his demon uncle didn't retaliate. He patted Lyle on the shoulder and said, "This is my new subordinate, Ms. Karen Pombay, a church assistant, and Mr. Lyle Buller."
The woman raised her eyebrows, then bent down, placing her arms on her knees, and gave Karen a kind smile, like a blooming jewel rose. "Thank you for your help, little Karen. I am Sharan Bennett, or you can call me Violet, like Ralph does. I am the sheriff of Narania, my position is Inspector. Welcome to Narania."
Then, Sharon moved her face toward Lyle, her arms crossed over her chest, making the enormous thing even more conspicuous.
“So, you’re a genius sheriff, little Buller. There’s a huge difference between you and your uncle. I never thought Cassandel’s little wolf cub would be such a pushover,” Sharan glanced at Ralph, a smile creeping onto her lips. “So, what’s the actual situation with our rising star, Instructor?”
Ralph rested his chin on his hand, his gaze fixed on Lyle.
Pretending to be profound.
"One in a million, an all-rounder, truly worthy of being my man."
Ms. Sharan gave Lyle a big smile, her bright eyes shining with a divine light, revealing eight neatly arranged pearly white teeth, but Lyle always felt that this whiteness shone with a cold light.
"Then let's look forward to Mr. Bouler's performance."
Ms. Sharan led the way, saying, "You will stay at the inn tonight. Tomorrow, we will go together to see the lord of Narania. Yes, we will go together. Have a good rest. I recommend the rose cakes and honey juice for the local cuisine."
Karen was immediately captivated and followed Sharon like a little tail.
Two men walked behind.
"Ms. Sharan seems to be at odds with me."
“I once gave her a period of training as a sheriff.”
"What is that? Why haven't I received it?"
"So you'll get more, and then go around courting death like you did in Rafilin? Just thinking about it makes me want to punch you again."
"Go on, please continue."
"You know, I'm good at encouraging newcomers, so I made some simple comparisons."
"what is that?"
Sharan seemed to have overheard their conversation, and she mimicked Ralph's cold tone, making a sound.
"【You know, Sharan, even my nephew, Mr. Buller, who is still studying medicine, would have been able to complete these simple actions in five days. In another sense, you are truly gifted.】 Thank you, old dog, because of your diligent teaching, your best apprentice, I, Sharan Bennett, have become an inspector of Nalania. Shouldn't you call me sir? At the annual summary meeting, I have heard Mr. Garrett complain about his 'wolf' more than once, about the complaint letters regarding his threats and intimidation."
“You’re amazing, Sister Sharan. For a woman to become an inspector, you must be incredibly capable.” Karen completely joined the conversation.
“Thank you, Karen. You can whip those dissenting men into chanting their father’s full name, and you’re just as good as me, plus you have a wealthy father who dominates the Merchants’ Alliance. Although it’s nice to be called sister, I’m still used to being called Violet.”
"Why? This name has nothing to do with Sister Sharan, does it?"
Sharan's eyes welled up with nostalgia. "That was a compliment from someone I considered a mortal enemy when I was still very naive. I thought he wouldn't say anything nice. That name always reminds me that things will turn out for the better."
Lyle glanced at Ralf, whose expression remained unchanged, and spoke with an uncertain tone.
"You gave it to me?"
"Yes, Violet, it suits you perfectly."
"What is Violet?"
"The flower goddess in the Narancia people's eyes."
Lyle glanced at Ms. Sharon, who was walking ahead with a smile.
"You never told me that you had an old flame in the neighboring province."
"Which eye of yours saw that I have a good relationship with Sharan?"
"You're so accommodating to her, doesn't that mean you like her?"
Ralph slowed his pace, and the two people in front of him unnoticed the distance between them.
"That was two years ago. Garrett gave me a commission. There was a hot-tempered daughter in a wealthy family in Nalania. One day, she suddenly went crazy and wanted to become a sheriff. The wealthy merchant was looking for the worst instructor in all the kingdom's police stations to make his silly daughter give up."
"You know your uncle's exceptional abilities. What we agreed on was five days of intensive training for a thousand jules, which was practically making money while lying down."
"I spent five days teaching that big-breasted, brainless rich girl how cruel society can be."
"On the last day, I thought, this might be our last goodbye, so I'll give her a farewell gift."
"We went into a craft shop, where a small statue of a goddess caught my eye, and I asked about the price without thinking."
"One thousand jules."
"【Shalan, you are my Violet (one thousand dollars)】."
Chapter Ninety-Five: White Armor
Lyle thought that Ms. Sharan must have misunderstood something, as he looked at the smiling woman in front of him.
"Uncle, aren't you going to clear up the misunderstanding? Explain things clearly, like saying that you're only worth a thousand jules to me."
“A thousand jules is quite a lot.” Ralph pulled down his hat brim. “I never imagined that joke would have such a big impact. As a woman, becoming the new inspector of Narania, you can imagine how much Sharan has sacrificed in her work. If a misunderstanding has had a positive effect on her life, then let that misunderstanding continue. She’s gotten to where she is today…” Ralph’s sharp eyes were reflected in the shop windows along the street, as if ripples were forming within them.
"Given her abilities, praising her as Violet is entirely justified."
"Ms. Sharan will be very happy to hear such high praise from you."
"Then why don't you try harder? I've praised you so much."
Lyle shrugged. "Because your praise sounds more like a joke to me."
"So, when I call Salan Violet, I'm definitely thinking of a thousand jules. Seeing her smug look on her face gives me a sense of intellectual superiority. And you heard me too. If I were to call you out on it to your face, would you want to get whipped while muttering my brother's name?"
Lyle shrank back. "If that day ever comes, I will call out your name with resentment."
Ralph shook his head. "Calling me won't help. While you were being beaten, I was probably already calling out your grandfather's name. Do you really expect this tigress to let me off the hook?"
Lyle shrank back, realizing that Sharan and Karen had already happily turned into the Tequila Inn.
"I will keep this a secret and will absolutely not let misfortune befall the Bühler family."
"Of course, it might even have a positive effect on my career. I know Sharan's personality. Although she has a foul mouth, she is definitely on our side."
"Truly as expected of you, even using your own students. By the way, have you given away that Violet statue yet?"
Ralph rolled his eyes as he closed the hotel door, looking at him like he was an idiot.
"A thousand jules, just sent out like that? Do you think I came to Narancia to suffer on public funds?"
"As expected of you."
The Tequila Hotel has a counter displaying fruit wines and a tavern right next to the entrance, followed by rest rooms.
The tables and chairs lacked the heaviness of Cassandra's furniture, and the orderly arrangement of the Eiffel College dining hall. Several potted morning glories sat on the windowsill, their blue-purple petals facing outwards.
The tavern was bustling with activity. The tables were mostly filled with residents who had worked all day, mostly men, who would sit together, order a few frothy drinks, and laugh heartily about the little things in life.
The waitress carried her tray through the crowd, occasionally chatting with the passengers at the next table.
Ms. Sharan seemed to be quite popular here. Shortly after she entered, a group of customers gave up their seats, and a young waitress enthusiastically cleaned the table and took her order with a smile as bright as a May flower.
It's like a party.
It came to an abrupt end the moment Ralph stepped on it.
Lyle guessed that it was his incongruous temperament that disrupted the atmosphere. Every man who was gesturing wildly at the table just a second ago would collapse into his seat with a thud after seeing Ralph's sour face.
It's like faking a fall while drunk.
Lyle timely defended his uncle's family until silence appeared, which could be considered a kind of charm, the king of awkward silences.
"What are you standing there for? Come on over and try the boss's signature rose cakes."
Ms. Sharon's loud voice was like a switch, freezing the atmosphere around her.
Lyle felt that the people around them were looking at them like enemies, as if their woman had been stolen, and the place felt more like a cold storage.
Looking at the unchanging Ralf.
"Uncle, living like this must be tiring."
Ralph naturally took his own steps.
"You'll get used to it. When I'm interrogating them, my face will definitely look worse than this."
The two took their seats.
Ms. Sharon pushed the steaming pink crepes, along with the plate, toward Ralph.
"Eat it, or you'll choke."
Ralph looked at the food in front of him and casually pushed it towards Lyle.
"You eat it, I don't have a sweet tooth."
Lyle looked at the grenade handed to him, Ralf stared at him coldly, and Ms. Sharan narrowed her eyes, her smile blooming unrestrainedly.
I'm his nephew, why are you glaring at me?
Lyle saw his savior.
"Karen, you can eat this, it's delicious."
“Praise be to the Holy Light! Praise be to Lord Lyle, you are the best.” Karen picked up the crepe as if nothing had happened and began to nibble on it like a greedy kitten. Her eyes had been fixed on the food, watching it dart and shift across the table.
"I never expected that young Bühler would be such a gentleman. It's quite a surprise. I thought that gender equality was a family motto of the Bühler family."
Another knife.
"Buller's family motto is not gender equality, but winner takes all. If you're not capable enough, just shut up."
No! No! Don't talk nonsense! Where would I get any family precepts? And you just casually bring them up.
“Alright!” Violet narrowed her eyes, took a glass of sparkling mead from the waitress’s plate, and slammed it on the table with a thud. “Let’s see who’s stronger. If I drink you under the table, hehe, I’ll strip you naked and throw you out on the street.”
Ralf seemed to shudder, his voice colder than ever before, "You've successfully angered me, Violet. You'd better think carefully about the consequences of provoking me. I'll do everything you said to me."
The bold woman was not intimidated. "Hahaha, I will win! Two years ago, I got you drunk with just one glass of wine and even drew a turtle on your face. I heard you stopped drinking after that. I drank heavily in Nalania for two years. What can you do against me?"
What a vicious woman.
