Chapter 306 The Dream Traveler and the Scholar's Dream
It is said that Andre College had a new research report, "fifty-two possible uses for that thing." Later, due to insufficient experimental materials, these ideas were abandoned because they could not be proven.
But none of this had anything to do with Mr. Lyle. The research on starved flesh and blood had come to an end, and the experiments had now progressed to another stage: the shaping of taste and the feedback to the user's soul.
This is a project that the academic mentor promised to assist with.
So, at the scholar's invitation, Lyle once again came to the Dragon Priest's Chamber located beneath the City of Wanderings, where the scholar and another person were waiting for Lyle.
"This is the Emerald Dragon Priestess, Irason, the Dragon Priestess of the Dream Elves, my sister." The scholar introduced the energetic dragon priestess to Lyle, who had been waving at him ever since he arrived.
"This is one of my students in Andre..."
“I know, Mr. Lyle Buller. The human mole that Brother Moroki placed in Andre.” Irason quickly grabbed Lyle’s outstretched hand and shook it vigorously.
What? I'm an undercover agent?
The scholar sighed, his expression bearing a striking resemblance to that of the withered druid Hines.
“Irason, I hope that when you receive intelligence, you will not add your own fabricated fantasies, and you can distinguish between facts and assumptions.”
Irason tapped his head lightly with his flowering cane. "Did I guess wrong again? Sorry."
Lyle looked at this dragon priest, who was completely different from the scholar mentor, and thought he seemed unreliable.
"Don't let Irasorn's appearance fool you; she is actually a dream walker, a master of manipulating dreams, altering memories, and distorting the mind."
"Dream Walker?"
"A spiritual quality. Dreamwalkers are born with the ability to manipulate their own dreams; their spiritual and mental talents surpass those of ordinary people. They can alter memories, manipulate illusions, and even change how others perceive them at first sight. Therefore, the talents awakened by these dreamwalkers are mostly related to this."
A new talent, which sounds like that of psychology masters who specialize in mind control, with hypnosis probably being their forte.
“Irason does indeed possess extraordinary talent, but,” the scholar looked regretfully at the dragon priest sisters who were smugly pleased with themselves during his introduction, “the first target of her mental interference after her abilities awakened was herself, and she even caused trouble in her own dreams. Even now, her dreams are distorted and chaotic.”
Oh no, am I driving myself crazy?
“Brother Moroki! I can hear you!” Irasorn punched the scholar’s back in dissatisfaction.
“I just want you to hear this, because only you can heal your own flaws. Perhaps you can still break free from your mentally broken state and become a diligent dragon priest.”
"That's not a flaw! Well, you guys, bound by reality, definitely can't understand me. Anyway, I'm not changing." Irasorn turned his head away, adopting an air of being the only one sober in a world of drunks.
“Alright, let’s get back to the main topic.” The scholar turned to look at Lyle, whose golden crown gleamed in the darkness.
"Regarding how to cultivate the excitement that comes from experiencing the taste of food, for you, Lyle, it's a complex life process. Creating such a process is difficult."
The scholar looked at Irasorn, “However, not limited to itself, creating substitutes with the same effect is a very easy task for dream walkers.”
“So let’s hurry up and enter the dream.” The Emerald Dragon Priest Irason took out a palm-sized, olive-green sphere. The flowing patterns on the surface of the stone were enough to make one dizzy just by looking at it.
"This is an Immersion Stone, a tool for entering deep into dreams. I made it, isn't it amazing?" Irason was still showing off.
“Irasorn, give the stone to Lyle. The work of collecting taste emotions is his responsibility.”
“Alright,” the green dragon priest reluctantly handed the stone to Lyle, “this is a device that can influence dreams, giving you the ability to interfere with dreams, similar to a dream walker.”
"But don't try to use it to manipulate the dreamer's dream. Trying to take over the dream is against the rules of dreams, and if you are discovered, you will be dealt with very badly."
Irason used magic to pick up a small spot of light from the Immersion Stone. "Place this on the forehead of a sleeping person, and you will be able to enter their dreams."
Lyle nodded; he already understood the general process.
"So, do you want to enter my dream?" Irasorn asked with a hint of anticipation.
Then he was interrupted by the scholar's cold tone, "No, entering a dream is equivalent to prying into someone else's secrets. Although Irasorn has no secrets to speak of, do you remember what I said? Her dreams are a kind of chaos that ordinary people can hardly bear."
"So, let's enter my dream world." The scholar waved his finger bones, and swirling magic lifted the three of them up, making them float in the air.
Lyle felt the comfort of weightlessness and looked at the scholar's blue-green mask.
"But teacher, aren't you a lich? Do liches need sleep? Do liches have dreams?"
"Yes, the dead also have dreams of the dead. It's a replay of the past, which can't be changed or recalled, and exists in our empty memories."
"My dreams are static; they are stable, so they are suitable for beginners to learn from."
Once everything was ready, the light spots were placed on the foreheads of Nia, the scholar, and the green dragon priest, and Lyle gradually fell into a deep sleep.
dark.
It's cold.
But the air was filled with an intense magic, so intense that every cell in the body seemed to be cheering.
A tall, slender figure emerged from the darkness, clad in a deep purple high wizard's robe. Beneath the hood lay a deep, mature face, golden sideburns vying for radiance, yet all were tempered by the composed air between his brows. A man exuding the aura of a profound scholar, his bright, star-like eyes held the pride of a monarch.
With each step he took, a storm of magic howled around him, and Lyle, standing nearby, felt as if magic was choking him, forcing him to bend over to breathe.
A pair of cold hands patted Lyle's back, and the scholar's mask gleamed.
The magic that had been applied to Lyle dissipated.
Lyle watched as the man, who resembled a magic lord, stood in the center of the dragon priest's altar, wearing an ancient blue-green mask on his face.
"Scholar Mentor, that was... you in the past?"
"My younger self, who didn't know how to restrain himself, seems so ridiculous now." Unlike the green dragon priest who watched with anticipation, the scholar had no interest in his own memories. "There's nothing to see here. Let's find a secluded corner to start the experiment."
"Teacher, may I finish reading it first? I'm very curious about what your dream was like when you died."
"...Then let's finish watching it before continuing."
"There's nothing to see."
"I document the moment when we, along with the dragons, became the dregs of time."
Chapter 307 The Soul of the Dragon
The human archmage scholar's ritual continued. At the center of the altar, he stirred the drifting magic in the air, much like stirring the shimmering Milky Way. On the surface of the altar, the emblems ignited by magic lit up one by one with the archmage's movements. A phantom of a giant azure dragon rose within the magic circle, hovering behind the scholar and merging with his human body.
As the mage raised his head, the dragon's phantom followed suit, raising its head high and letting out a deafening roar. Space was torn apart, and the chaotic void beyond the rift carried a dangerous hue.
Four figures emerged from the crack.
The Red Dragon Priest was a dwarf with a thick, reddish-brown beard; he looked like a tree stump, his red hair resembling numerous roots. The dwarf priest stared solemnly at the human mage in the center.
The Green Dragon Priestess was a slender and beautiful elf with bright, sparkling eyes that looked at the human mage.
The White Dragon Priestess, riding a chariot of frost, burst through the rift. Even in human form, her distinctive fins and scales remained, making her a bewitching mermaid like a queen of frost. Her cold gaze fixed on the humans at the center.
Space shattered, and a four-meter-tall giant humanoid figure crashed through the rift. Wearing a tattered priest's robe, the black dragon priest looked at the blue dragon priest in the center with a furious expression.
On the dark walls, five giant dragon phantoms were fighting each other, roaring and howling, almost drowning out the sound of the ritual itself.
Finally, the azure phantom unfolded its enormous wings, and four rays of light merged into the blue dragon's body.
Four dragon priests knelt on one knee.
"I offer this to Freheimer's perseverance."
"I offer here the purity of Principality."
"I hereby offer the peace of Irasorn."
"I hereby offer the power of Omhead."
In the center, the human mage began chanting.
"The wisdom of Moroki will continue the age of the dragons."
The power of the five dragons began to converge as the human mage raised his hand. They gathered and merged faster and faster until they became one, and a blazing light began to flash.
At the very center of the magic storm, something is being created.
It was a crown, its body made of diamonds, with five-colored gemstones sparkling at its tips.
The crown of the era.
Moroki, Crown of Mankind.
The human mage was mesmerized by the radiance; he stretched out his finger, almost within reach.
The power inherited from the dragons, once the ritual is completed, will make humanity the masters of a new era.
Only one last sentence is missing.
"My people inherited the crown from the dragons and became the masters of a new era."
The jeweled crown is slowly descending, just a hair's breadth away from your fingertips.
Lyle watched nervously, while the scholar and Irasorn looked away.
An angry roar resounded through the sky, accompanied by a light that swooped down from the heavens and drove everything away.
All evil has nowhere to hide.
Under that beam of light, the crown shattered instantly.
"I will not allow it! Claws and flames roar over the heads of my own people!"
"I will not allow it! My compatriots are struggling and crying out for their lives!"
"I will not allow it! No race can be superior to humanity!"
"In the name of the Holy Light! Dragon, die!"
"From this day forward, no other races shall be permitted to exist within the borders of humanity. Wherever humanity goes, evil will surely perish! For we are the new masters of this era!"
"This is the age of holy light!"
With the dragon's mournful howl echoing through the heavens and earth, the five dragon priests fell to the ground.
Times have changed. They sensed it. Thousands of miles away, the leader of the dragons, the Dragon King, had been slain, killed by humans who wielded the power of holy light. The light illuminated the earth, creating eternal daylight. The world celebrated the birth of a new king.
However, it was not them; the dragon priests, along with the dragons, fell in defeat.
The human mage wailed in agony at the center of the altar, his body beginning to disintegrate, blood flowing across the ground. His robes were stained crimson with blood, utterly ruining the regal decorum.
Blood from the corner of his eye clouded his vision. He struggled to his feet and looked bitterly at his four companions who were just like him.
"We failed."
Feeling the life force within him dying along with the dragon, the human mage knew his days were numbered. He forcibly circulated his magic, severing his connection with his race to prevent the decaying forces from interfering with the other mages.
