He looked at me, stroking his sparse beard, and seemed quite content.

"Alright, newcomers, there will be a club recruitment event in the conference room on the third floor. Those who haven't found a target yet can go and take a look. Those who don't have any ideas can move around freely."

"My main point is that you should trust that Andre is definitely safe."

The main hall doors opened, and people began to slowly move forward.

Lyle also planned to go and take a look.

The gentleman patted Lyle on the shoulder.

"Has the Plague Doctor already decided on a club?"

"No, I'm planning to go check the third floor."

"In that case, please wait here for a moment, Doctor of Plague."

"What is it, sir?"

"Wait, you won't be disappointed." The gentleman looked toward the door.

Lyle noticed that some of the older students in the college did not head towards the door; they remained where they were, as if something might happen on the other side.

The black wave of the newlyweds slowly advanced, and just as they stepped out of the door, the light above them fell down.

Light bat? No, that's much shinier than a light bat.

"Believe in the Holy Light!!!" a loud male voice shouted.

"Detect evil!!" The falling holy light shone even brighter.

Like a golden meteorite crashing into the crowd, the newlyweds, bathed in holy light, collapsed to the ground like harvested wheat.

"Raymond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Behind him roared the Dean, the tree whiskers shattered on the ground, and the Dean transformed into a bolt of lightning and rushed out of the main hall.

An explosion was heard outside the door.

The gentleman turned his head. "Although I intervened a little, Mr. Plague Doctor, welcome to Andrei."

Chapter Thirteen: Magic and Great Discoveries

Hearing the loud noises outside the door, Lyle realized that he had become one of Andrei's members, and a sense of belonging welled up inside him.

Lyle decided to run over to the gate to join in the fun.

The forbidden holy light that has been repeatedly mentioned must be Mr. Raymond from earlier.

Lyle was very curious about what exactly the so-called "ceiling of combat power" looked like.

He peeked out from close to the gate, like a spy, not out of fear, but out of concern for his own safety.

Then, I saw a golden tortoise shell pressed against the corner of the wall.

It was a large, shimmering phantom, and beneath the phantom of the shield, a knight clad in magnificent heavy armor was kneeling on one knee.

He held his head high; if it weren't for the phantom of a shield looming over him, one would think he was receiving a medal rather than being beaten.

The dean stood before him, his cane planted firmly on the ground like a warhammer, held with the demeanor of a professional weapon master, the cane now enveloped in a ghostly blue light.

"Raymond, you promised you wouldn't cause trouble at this recruitment fair!"

"My promise is that I will not spread the Lord's glory in the main hall! But this is outside the hall!"

"You little bastard, you're playing word games with me!"

"You old codger, how can you, as the dean of the academy, not know how to play word games!"

Lyle saw the dean's hand holding the cane tremble violently, picking it up and putting it down repeatedly.

"Mr. Raymond is at a disadvantage."

"No, it's a balance of power." The gentleman was also observing.

“Mr. Raymond has placed his shield against the wall, so if the Dean hits him with his hammer, Raymond might not be hurt, but the Dean’s castle will definitely have a hole in it.”

"How despicable!"

“Mr. Raymond is being lenient,” the gentleman shook his head, seemingly recalling some unpleasant experience. “Mr. Raymond is just going to defend. This is not his usual fighting style. His usual habit is to attack, to be faster and fiercer than you, so fierce that you can’t handle it.”

"So, actually, the dean is very strong?"

"The Dean is indeed very strong; he is a master of enchanting. But that's not the key point. The key point is that the Dean has done Raymond a favor, so Mr. Raymond can only passively take a beating when facing the Dean."

One by one, the newcomers who had been knocked down got up without suffering any harm. Detecting Evil was merely a reconnaissance spell, used to uncover disguises and confirm identities. If someone was deemed evil, a mark would appear above their head. In the gentleman's words, "Our souls, which study the forbidden, are themselves a kind of evil beyond this era." Although it was unclear why Mr. Raymond's Detecting Evil could knock people down, its harmless nature meant it was tacitly accepted as part of Andrei's welcoming ceremony. Apart from the Dean's face, no one suffered any loss.

"Let's go, Doctor of Plague, there's no more excitement to watch. The Dean didn't go all out. I originally thought the Dean would be able to break a few of Raymond's bones this time."

Some elderly onlookers also left, and the boos they made as they departed showed their dissatisfaction with the stalemate.

Raymond knocks down the newcomer, the dean hits Raymond, and the old man watches the dean hit Raymond.

It seems to have become a fine tradition of Andrei.

According to the gentleman, this was one of the rare scenes of Mr. Raymond being beaten, which was one of the reasons why some of the college's seniors tirelessly joined the orientation party. They wanted to see Raymond, who had once beaten them, being beaten again. Otherwise, do you think they were just bored? Academic research was more important than spacing out in the main hall.

"If you look closely, you'll see that the Dean's staff has blue magic runes. That's an enchantment called Deep Sea Pressure. The effect is to increase the weight of an item to a level that a normal person absolutely cannot lift."

Lyle quickly understood the meaning of the pressure of the deep sea: the immense power of nature capable of tearing a living person apart.

"Does the gentleman mean that this isn't even the Dean's full effort?"

"Enchantment is regarded as a discipline that elevates matter, enabling ordinary things to possess extraordinary abilities, such as artificial time-limited artifacts. It can transform mortal objects into immortal ones for a short time, and of course, it can also do so for a long time or even permanently."

"For example, enchanted grass leaves can cut steel."

What, does this sound familiar?

Can a single blade of grass cleave the sun, moon, and stars?

“Actually, even though I’ve been in Andrei for so long, I’ve never seen the Dean’s full power,” the gentleman said with a hint of regret. “But I was fortunate enough to see it: the Dean’s cane, which radiates a seven-colored light.”

One color is so powerful, how much more so when there are multiple colors!

"How powerful is it?"

Lyle noticed that the gentleman's body visibly trembled.

“I once had a friend who, while the dean was away, dared to touch him and disappeared right in front of me. Later, the dean replied that he had been launched into outer space and that there was no need to look for him until Andrei’s footsteps left the atmosphere.”

hiss.

True Wood - Limited Edition - Space Ripper - Divine Light Staff!

"Wait, the atmosphere?" Lyle seemed to have heard something incredible.

"It's a protective ring of gas surrounding the Earth. Ah, my mistake, even the Plague Doctor probably doesn't know what Earth is. Simply put, the world we live in is a giant sphere..."

Lyle fell into a daze.

It's the Middle Ages outside! Magellan didn't begin his circumnavigation until 1519, and the Middle Ages only ended in the 15th century. Just how powerful must the theocratic forces be to suppress you?

But familiar knowledge feels so comforting.

"The doctor is quite adept at absorbing new knowledge; you might have similar talent, so you could consider joining us..."

"Astronomy Club?"

"Advanced Magic Research Society".

What the heck? Isn't this astronomical knowledge?

"It is a branch of the Magic Research Society, a new society that was founded a hundred years ago."

"At the time, it became famous for proving that the Earth is a sphere."

"May I ask how it was proven?"

"The president of the Magic Research Society at the time planned to strengthen the magical power in the world. He artificially created magical nodes and joined forces with other academy administrators to weave a huge magical link hub system in the corners of human activity, which is called the Magic Network."

"When adjusting the nodes of the magic network, we discovered through modeling that the magic network forms a hemisphere in terms of spatial structure. The remaining part is the ocean, which is inaccessible to humans."

"In other words, the scope of human activity forms a closed hemisphere."

"Later, it took another fifty years to build the Deep Sea Magic Net, proving that the Southern Hemisphere, which is mostly ocean, is also a hemisphere."

"The Earth is a sphere."

"The president of the Magic Research Society gathered a group of his former companions to form the Advanced Magic Research Society, which specializes in studying macroscopic cosmic forces and applying them to the use of magic."

Magic enlightens the mind... Arcane prospers the nation... Lyle saw that the technology tree had grown completely distorted, and he now even began to doubt whether the original world's timeline was correct.

"In short, advanced magic research is definitely an epoch-making discipline. Of course, the depth of knowledge within it is not something that ordinary people can master."

I understand, I understand. Who hasn't experienced the fear of being beaten by knowledge?

Chapter Fourteen: Choosing a Club

The conversations along the way deeply impressed Lyle with Andrei's profound knowledge, completely dispelling his psychological advantage as a time traveler. Perspective determines potential; what should you do when your perspective, knowledge, and strength are inferior to others?

Join if you can't.

The recruitment fair on the third floor was more like an exhibition, where clubs would display their intellectual achievements, and some would even show off their military might.

The first thing that catches the eye is a huge empty booth; you can't help but notice it, it's just too eye-catching.

Golden steps, white jade pillars, a huge banner held up by two angelic phantoms, suspended high in the sky, sacred songs ringing in the air, clouds carrying the glow of dawn acting as dry ice, making the booth look like a dream, the words on the banner outlined in gold, dazzling under the sun's phantom light.

Welcome to the Church of Holy Light and All Power!

……

Everything was so dreamlike. Stepping into that booth felt like entering paradise. Logically speaking, if an angel had stood under the banner to guide you, adding the finishing touch, it would have been an absolutely stunning masterpiece.

“That’s Mr. Raymond’s exhibition hall.”

The heavily armored angel is being beaten on the second floor...

“It’s beautiful,” Lyle could only exclaim in admiration. Faced with such a magnificent and awe-inspiring sight, Lyle couldn’t bring himself to belittle it. What else could he do but be jealous of the power of the Holy Light? “Aren’t there any other members to replace Mr. Raymond in recruiting new members?”
