Norman raised his hand and beckoned, and a sphere was thrown out of the darkness, landing on the oak table and sliding all the way to Snake's position.
He only glanced at Snake before he gasped and jumped to his feet.
It was a human head, and because all the blood had been drained, the skin was deathly pale and somewhat eerie. But those present were all seasoned Mafia members who had seen all sorts of things, and a human head couldn't frighten them. Moreover, Snake was a specialist in torture. What truly horrified them was the expression left on the human head.
Snake, who had tormented countless people, had never seen such a face before. Despair seemed to be etched into his skin, and the will to survive frozen in his bulging eyes made Snake subconsciously turn his gaze away.
"The Godfather... what happened to this man?"
“A horror we can’t comprehend,” Norman pinched the bridge of his nose, his voice turning icy cold. “Is this your trick?”
Upon hearing Norman's words, the other officers' expressions changed drastically, and they abruptly stood up, drawing their guns from their waists and pointing them at each other.
The atmosphere instantly turned extremely cold, and the pupils of every cadre dilated slightly.
"squeak--"
"Squeaky-"
The faint squeak of a mouse broke the stalemate. A mouse jumped from under the table onto the long oak table, circled the desperate head a few times, and then ran along the long oak table to the end. There, a slender finger gently tapped the tabletop. The mouse nimbly leaped and ran along the finger into the darkness.
Does it matter whether it's us or not?
“It doesn’t matter at all,” Norman waved his hand. “I’ve agreed to your terms.”
Chapter Fifty-Eight: There is no one more loving than me.
Early in the morning, Dante got up and found a small stall in the dim light. He placed his shotgun on the table, waved to the waiter whose eyes had become clear, took out a letter and pen from his pocket, cleared his throat, and tilted his head back.
"Ah—ah—my Ashley, no, my dear Ashley—just thinking about you makes me, makes me..."
Dante frowned for a long time before changing his tone.
"My love for you is like, like..."
"It's like having diarrhea; you just can't stop it."
A man spoke from behind Dante.
"Yes, it's like pulling... but it's not!" Dante snapped his pen in two, turned around, and roared angrily.
"Oh—" Li Yili raised her hand and waved before turning to look at the letter spread on the table. "Are you writing a love letter? Don't you feel ashamed? Reading your own poorly written love letter in a public place like this?"
Dante gasped, turned around, crumpled the letter with only a few words on it into a ball, stuffed it into his pocket, and glared at Li Yili. "Mind your own business! What are you doing here? Following me?"
“No, I just came out for a stroll and picked up something from the church. I happened to hear your loud voice,” Li Yili said, bending her index and middle fingers at Dante. “You looked constipated, so I came to check on you. By the way, who is Ashley? Her name doesn’t sound like she’s from the Jurassic Circle.”
Dante's expression changed, he grabbed the shotgun from the table, shoved Li Yili hard with his shoulder, and prepared to leave.
"Hmm—Ashley likes people with literary talent?" Li Yili tilted her chin and raised her head.
Dante paused, the veins on the back of his right hand gripping the shotgun bulging.
"I can recommend someone to you... someone with good writing skills."
"You're not trying to say it was you, are you?" Dante turned his head, veins bulging on his forehead, a forced smile on his face. "What conditions do you want to negotiate with me this time?"
“Me? Ah~ I am indeed a very talented writer,” Li Yili said, arms crossed, nodding confidently. “But I’m not good at writing love letters. Of course, to be more precise, I don’t know what kind of writing style girls in the White Circle or Millennium prefer.”
"But there is one person who definitely knows, and... she would probably be happy to help you."
"Who?" Dante raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
“Before that, I need to go to the church first,” Li Yili smiled brightly, turned around and started walking towards the church.
Dante's lips twitched, and he slid the shotgun into the holster behind his waist.
She quickly caught up with Li Yili, saying, "You've only been in the Triassic Circle for a short time. It's impossible for you to have met someone with literary talent in the Jurassic Circle in such a short time. If there were such a person in the Jurassic Circle, I would have found them long ago. It must be someone who's with you, right? That little girl is unlikely. I know! It's that tall, beautiful girl, right!"
"She looks very talented in writing!"
Even Li Yili almost stumbled and fell to the ground.
"It's either that girl in the wheelchair, it's either one or the other!" Dante put his hands behind his head and slowed down, clearly intending to go straight back to the hotel.
"So interested? It seems you really like that Ashley," Li Yili said leisurely as she walked forward with her hands behind her back. "I guess that Ashley might like the kind of person who is eloquent, compassionate... and righteous."
"You didn't act well."
Dante's expression changed, and he quickened his pace, whistling nonchalantly. "What are you talking about? There's no one more compassionate than me in this Jurassic Circle. The number of people I've helped could circle the Jurassic Circle twice. Acting? I'm magnanimous and don't care, but the people I've helped won't take it to heart. If it falls into the ears of some hot-tempered people, tsk tsk—they might get beaten up."
"Really?" Li Yili smiled. "You said the same thing to other people, and what were their reactions?"
Dante scoffed, "Where do good people come from in the Jurassic Circle?"
“Yes,” Li Yili pointed to herself, smiling brightly, “Me.”
"Ha—that's the best joke I've heard all day."
"Each each other."
Li Yili scoffed and fell silent. Dante also turned his head away from Li Yili. The two walked silently through the street and arrived at the church of the Church of the God of Steam and Steel. Li Yili walked into the church without stopping, while Dante stopped in front of the church door, like a demon who feared the glory of the Lord. He hesitated for a while and then took a few steps back to create distance.
As Li Yili entered the church, before she could even speak, a priest approached her carrying a box and bowed respectfully.
"This is something Triassic Puss sent you; no one has ever opened it."
"The efficiency is really high," Li Yili said, padded the box. It was unexpectedly heavy, clearly indicating that it was more than just clothes for one day.
"One of the original tenets of the Cult of Steam and Steel was to serve the inhabitants of the wasteland to the utmost."
The priest's expression was extremely serious, so serious that Li Yili's lips began to tremble uncontrollably.
He used to think that the Church of Steam and Steel was great, at least much greater than Bishop Azavet, the Horn of Galar, the Black Gate and the Celestials. After all, the Church of Steam and Steel had built the Wasteland, a nation without any religious foundation, from scratch in a desolate wasteland, and even generously acknowledged that the first people to escape there were royalty and nobles.
Generosity and kindness are unreasonable!
But after visiting that food processing plant and listening to Harry's pitch, everything made sense.
Li Yili even suspected that the land's transformation into a wasteland and the steam and steel god's cult were related.
"Really? I really admire that."
Li Yili slung the suitcase over her shoulder, waved at the priest, turned and stepped through the church door. Seeing Dante pacing back and forth not far from the church, she couldn't help but complain.
What are you doing?
"Morning exercise!" Dante raised his head.
“Alright, alright, I can help you with the love letter thing,” Li Yili rolled her eyes, too lazy to beat around the bush with Dante anymore, “but you have to do me a favor.”
“It depends on what kind of help it is,” Dante said seriously. “If it’s controlling the Black… if it’s that kind of thing, you should probably save your breath.”
"Don't worry, I wouldn't do something like killing the goose that lays the golden eggs," Li Yili waved her hand.
"I can rest assured that."
Dante nodded subconsciously, and after taking a few steps, he immediately turned to look at Li Yili and grabbed her shoulder, veins bulging on his forehead.
"I'll never do anything stupid for you again, understand?"
Chapter Fifty-Nine: Romeo and Juliet, Dante and Ashley
On the way back to the hotel, Li Yili and Dante chatted idly.
"The Cult of Steam and Steel in the Jurassic Circle's law enforcement? That's the second funniest joke I've heard today."
When Li Yili mentioned the plague in the Triassic Circle's executive branch and took the opportunity to inquire about the Steam and Steel Cult's executive branch in the Jurassic Circle, Dante shrugged indifferently, his hands behind his head.
"Everyone knows that the Jurassic Circle is controlled by gangs, and the gangs maintain order in the Jurassic Circle."
"After all, gangs are also disruptive forces," Li Yili commented casually. "So, gangs in the Jurassic Circle are also responsible for the production and sale of daily necessities for residents of the Jurassic Circle?"
“How could that be? We, cough—the gang is responsible for collecting protection money to maintain order in the Jurassic Circle,” Dante coughed awkwardly, raising a finger and waving it from side to side. “The production and sale of daily necessities mostly rely on the Cretaceous and Triassic Circles.”
Li Yili glanced at Dante, "So? The gangs are the executive branch within the Jurassic Circle?"
Dante paused, lowered his hand, pondered for a moment while resting his chin on his hand, then tilted his head. "You could say that... gangsters hate people who break their rules on their turf. If they find someone breaking the rules..."
"A mistake could mean anything, from losing a finger to simply vanishing into thin air."
"And what are the rules?"
“The Jurassic Circle gangs have rules,” Dante said, shrugging his shoulders. “Isn’t that simple and straightforward?”
“Social problems,” Li Yili simply commented on Dante’s straightforward Jurassic rules.
"The Church of Steam and Steel doesn't care, and the Wasteland royal family and nobles only think of themselves. They foolishly believe that patience can change the outcome, which is the Triassic Circle," Dante said nonchalantly, nodding his head toward the wall between the Triassic Circle and the Jurassic Circle. "They retreated again and again, and in the end, they became cheap labor to be raised."
"You seem to look down on people from the Triple Ring?"
"It's not about whether you look down on someone or not, but... how should I put it? Right, it's like how different places have different views on real men. In some places, the longer the name, the stronger the person is, but in other places it's the complete opposite. Do you think the strongest people from these two places would subconsciously look down on each other because of the other's name if they clashed?" Dante pondered for a while and waved his finger.
"But there's only a wall between you."
“Even if there is only one door between us, different worlds are still different worlds,” Dante emphasized.
"So you're just going to keep banging on that door?" Li Yili pointed to the wall between the Jurassic and Belarusian zones.
“Well…” Dante’s gaze darted around, “I wasn’t just knocking on the door non-stop, I was politely ringing the doorbell, and… cough cough cough—I was invited!”
Dante's voice grew louder and louder until finally his entire head was raised.
“Is that so…?” Li Yili deliberately dragged out her words until Dante showed an embarrassed and annoyed expression before raising her hand and continuing, “However, I admire your courage. A scoundrel from the Jurassic Circle and a young lady from the Cretaceous Circle, Shakespeare would definitely love a story like this.”
"Who is Shakespeare? But he must have had great taste," Dante said, arms crossed, nodding.
"His favorite thing was tragedy. One of his many masterpieces is Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, the son of a noble family, falls in love at first sight with Juliet, the daughter of a feuding family, at a birthday party. Juliet also falls in love with Romeo at first sight, as if by fate."
"Guess what happened to them?"
Dante's expression changed, and he spat several times, "What bad luck! I have absolutely no interest in the ending of a tragedy! Damn Shakespeare!"
“But their story could have turned into a happy ending comedy, it just fell short of it,” Li Yili smiled meaningfully with her hands behind her back. “If they hadn’t missed that step, they could not only have been able to be together happily, but they could have even received everyone’s blessings.”
Dante stopped abruptly, his eyes widening. "Really?! You wouldn't be saying this on purpose just to make me hear this tragedy, would you?!"
“I’m not that bored,” Li Yili waved her hand, “but you have to tell me who the Jurassic Circle Mafia’s executives are.”
Dante's shoulders relaxed. It was good that Li Yili had made demands; at least it proved that this was a deal, and all he had to do was answer the names of a few well-known Mafia officials in the Jurassic Circle.
"Alright, first up is Snake, the most ruthless member of the Mafia, who specializes in hunting down, torturing, and other shady dealings."
Juliet's father intended to marry her off to the son of another nobleman.
Dante's eye twitched violently.
"Secondly, there's Pig, who was in charge of all sorts of Mafia businesses, frequently in and out of the chalk circle, and even did business in Millennium."
