"What are you talking about?" Chtholly laughed as she left the infirmary.
In the library, William, who had taken a short nap, started working again, while the exhausted Nephren was resting her head on his lap. Senju found a corner, covered himself with a blanket, and fell into a good sleep.
"Finally, I've made some progress," William said, looking at the documents in his hand. Although the information on them was not quite what he had expected, he had still found some of the information he was looking for.
One of the documents describes the origin of fairies and the basic theory of necromancy. It states that the soul is initially a blank slate, and it will develop color over time after birth. In other words, the soul develops later than the body. Even though infants and children have bodies, their souls are different from those of adults.
Therefore, a soul that loses its body before the dyeing process is complete will create the contradiction of 'dying before birth'. The soul that should have gone to the afterlife will wander there, and that is where the fairy exists.
Therefore, they are driven entirely by curiosity, indiscriminate in their understanding of good and evil, cruel yet innocent, repeatedly playing pranks and interacting with people.
The following records describe how to make and control fairies. William stopped reading when he came to the part that required sacrifices, as these records were quite unpleasant.
The other document contains records of the fairies' previous attacks, which occasionally mention "opening the gates of the fairy village," likely referring to deliberately letting magic go out of control and causing a self-destruction.
"A fairy weapon?" William looked at Nephren sleeping beside him and gave a wry smile.
She whispered, then noticed a resentful gaze coming from the crack in the door. "Good morning, Chtholly."
"Good morning," Chtholly stormed in, slamming the door shut behind her. "What are you two up to, alone together in the middle of the night?!"
“It’s not just two people, there’s another one over there,” William pointed to the side, and Chtholly then noticed that Senju was lying in the pile of books next to her, looking at her sleepily. “Good morning, everyone.”
"Ah," Nephren also woke up and greeted the people next to her.
“I’m looking for records of the Sixth Beast and the fairies, about how to defeat them without opening the Fairy Village Gate and without losing your life,” William said casually, sitting there.
"You know, right? They're opponents we can't defeat without doing this, that's why they made us fight," Chtholly said, her face grim as she looked at the open document beside her. It showed the scene when the gates of Fairy Village opened, with a dim mushroom cloud shining brightly over the city.
“Is that really so?” William stood up. “It seems you’re feeling better. Come with me for some morning exercises.”
"What is this?" Chtholly was a little dissatisfied, but she still went with William to the playground outside to practice.
After waking up for a while, Senju heard this and went out with Nephren to see what was happening. On the way, they ran into Chito and the others who were washing their faces, so the group of them ran over to watch.
Seeing the two people wielding swords on the field, Yuri became excited. She also took out a stick and waved it around excitedly, "Oh, oh, oh, it's starting!"
"Quiet down," Chito nudged Yuri, then asked Senju, "Is this what morning training is all about? Do we have to use swords?"
"No, no, this is just a competition," Senju shook his head, then said to the group, "Watch closely, this is the power of this world."
After William had done his exercises on the field, Nephren handed him a long, thin cloth bag, which was probably filled with ancient weapons. Chtholly was a little confused as to why Nephren gave him this.
However, she still raised the greatsword in her hand. The silver blade was covered with patterns. This was the relic weapon with the strongest magic resonance efficiency on the floating continent, Sereneolith.
On the other side, William untied the cloth bag, which contained a long sword-shaped relic weapon. She recognized it as a mass-produced relic weapon; several similar ones had been unearthed in the past, though their performance was a level lower.
Thousand Hands looked at the holy sword in William's hand with a puzzled expression for a while, wondering why he wasn't using the newly forged holy sword. However, seeing the two people who were ready on the field, he decided to watch from the sidelines for the time being.
Chapter 239 Morning Sword Practice
Picking up the holy sword Percival, William shouted at Ctholly, "Bring it on, let me see your strength."
“Ha,” Chtholly said, doubting her ears, looking at William standing to the side, “Don’t you understand? Don’t think that just because you have a relic weapon you can fight me. Only we Golden Fairies can use those.”
“That’s hard to say. Maybe it’ll be better than yours,” William said casually, holding up his sword and looking at Chtholly. “Don’t cry if you lose.”
"Stop joking, do you want to turn into a piece of meat?" Chtholly shouted at William, who stood opposite her nonchalantly. "Impossible. Although Nigolan likes that, don't worry about me. You're five hundred years away from defeating me. Come on, bring it on."
"Is that so? Since you've brought it up," Chtholly also began to recall William's inexplicable words and deeds in the past. Under these circumstances, she decided to let him see how capable she was before talking about anything else.
Then Chtholly began to unleash her magic, and the patterns on the Senioris sword emitted a blue light, the entire blade growing larger before she slashed at William, saying, "You asked for it yourself, so don't..."
However, before she could finish speaking, Chtholly felt the world turn upside down. Several people nearby clearly saw the whole process of Chtholly rushing forward and being easily slashed to the ground by William.
"Huh?" Chtholly rolled over on the ground, and everyone noticed that she had no injuries. She seemed quite puzzled as well. "What happened?"
"Is that all?" William squatted down beside her, looking at the fallen Chtholly. It looked like a mockery.
Chtholly, startled, jumped aside, grabbed Senioris from the ground, and charged at William with a low posture, "This time, you must..."
Then the two clashed blades and remained locked in a stalemate for a few seconds. The blue magical light of Senioris clashed with the magic-free Percival. The two could have quickly decided the outcome, but then, Percival, who was at a disadvantage, knocked the dominant Senioris away. Ctholly was also thrown into the air, flipped over, and rushed forward several steps before stopping.
A group of people nearby, except for Nephren, were clapping and watching the sword fight with amazement. Yuri looked at the swords excitedly, as if she wanted to try it herself.
"What have you done?!" The gap between reality and expectations made Chtholly very excited, and she shouted at William, who was sitting on the side, looking relaxed.
"Listen carefully, the Holy Sword, or rather, the relic weapon, is not a weapon that changes according to the user's magical power," William began to explain from the side.
They got up.
Chtholly, however, was unimpressed. "Ha, what are you talking about?"
“This is a weapon that can turn the powerful force that the opponent applies to the sword back into its own,” William said, looking at the puzzled Chtholly. “In other words, the stronger the opponent, the more the Holy Sword will increase its power.”
“Look, this is a different way of fighting than you used to do. It’s a way of fighting that can defeat your opponent without self-destruction,” William said to Ctholly, whose expression was slowly changing, though she didn’t seem to agree.
"What do you know about us?" Chtholly charged at William with her sword raised in both hands, but William easily defended against her attack with a simple one-handed sword. "You don't know the basics and just rely on brute force. You're the ones who don't know."
"Oh, what is this? Appearing suddenly, with an expression as if you've seen everything clearly," Chtholly angrily attacked William relentlessly, but to no avail. Her storm of attacks was easily blocked by him.
"Do you really think this way of fighting is good?!" William shouted, slashing forward with force, sending Ctholly flying far away until she finally stopped by grabbing the ground with her hands.
"What a haphazard fighting style," William remarked with some emotion as he watched her stop her momentum with her hand. However, after stopping, Ctholly charged towards them again.
While fighting the enraged Chtholly, William tried to persuade her, "As long as you understand the correct way to use the relic weapon and use Senioris correctly, you will definitely be able to come back alive."
With his words, Chtholly was knocked to the ground. This time, she was utterly defeated, as William pointed the holy sword at her. Chtholly felt unable to move. "Who are you?"
“You’re very agile, decisive, and have good intuition. You also have enough magic power, so I’m relieved. You’re very strong,” William said, sheathing his sword and extending his hand to Chtholly. “So, I hope you come back safely.”
"What happened?" Nigolan ran over with a look of joy on her face, then looked at the people on and off the field and exclaimed in surprise, then looked at William, "What's going on?"
“I only taught her a little about how to use the Holy Sword,” William said casually, then pulled Chtholly up from the ground. “Speaking of which, you seem to have something on your mind.”
“Yes,” Nigolan agreed, then said to Chtholly, “The higher-ups have agreed that the battle three days from now will not require opening the Fairy Village Gate; we must conserve our strength to deal with another plan.”
"What? What happened?" Chtholly exclaimed in disbelief, then looked at Nigolan winking mischievously at her. "It's a secret, Chtholly will find out soon too."
“Could it be…” William suddenly remembered, but Nigolan covered his mouth, “This is a secret right now.”
"Ah, that puts my mind at ease," William said, also relaxing. He had been planning to get involved, but now it seemed there wouldn't be any problems.
"What exactly is going on?" Chtholly shouted, looking at the two with ambiguous smiles on their faces. Several people nearby also gathered around, watching the two sides fighting with concern.
Yuri curiously looked at the long sword stuck in the ground beside her. She pulled it out with force and tried to swing it around. A series of soft sounds came from it, and then a layer of golden light flashed on it, attracting the attention of everyone around.
“Impossible, this is a phenomenon that only heroes can exhibit,” William said, somewhat astonished. “Who exactly are you? How could you possibly become a hero?”
"Huh, can I become a hero?" Yuri, who was about to throw her sword aside, was overjoyed to hear William's words. She had heard many stories from Chito, and heroes were very cool. "Then where is the Demon King I have to defeat?"
Chapter 240 William's Past
"What's wrong?" Senju asked, noticing William's pale face. "Can Yuri become a hero?"
“Hmm, that’s a possibility, but I still hope it doesn’t happen,” William said with a sigh, then a look of reminiscence crossed his face. “A hero is someone who transforms the sins and destiny they bear into power. Only by bearing enough burdens can one become a hero.”
"That's a strange statement," Chito said, not quite understanding. "The book says that heroes are warriors who appear to fight against demon kings, and in the end, the heroes always defeat the demon kings."
"What book did you read that in? Being a hero isn't something that's easy," William was taken aback. Although not all heroes fail, how could one always win against a powerful enemy? Such an ending only exists in books.
“Oh, but it looks really cool,” Yuri said, brandishing her holy sword with great interest. She seemed quite interested in the sword. After striking a pose, she shouted, “Magic activation!”
Unfortunately, nothing had changed. William looked at it and shook his head. "I must have slept for too long. Everyone here seems to be a hero."
William, beginning to question his existence, stood silently to the side. After all, in the past, only a very few people could become heroes. He had worked hard for a long time but was only a quasi-hero. Now, there were three or four heroes here, making him feel like he had been out of touch with the world for a long time.
"strangeness
"Ah, why isn't it glowing?" Yuri looked curiously at the holy sword in her hand. The trembling and light from before had subsided. She patted the sword vigorously for a while, but found there was still no reaction. "Is this sword broken?"
Qianhu, who was standing nearby, also joined in and began to study the Holy Sword. The two of them chattered away, and Nigolan, who was standing next to them, seemed to have thought of something as she watched them.
"Nigolan, what's going on here?" Chtholly asked, looking at Nigolan who seemed lost in thought. "Also, the Hero, isn't that a legend of the human race?"
"Speaking of which, Chtholly doesn't know William and the others' identities yet. What race do you think they are?" Nigoran asked, looking at the bewildered Chtholly.
“I can’t tell, but they should be a member of the unmarkable species,” Chtholly shook her head. She really didn’t know the race of these people because no one had ever told her.
“Well, that’s roughly right, but the real race…” Nigolan looked at William and Thousand Hands to the side.
“It doesn’t matter, I don’t consider it a secret anyway,” William said, shaking his head nonchalantly. Thousand Hands nodded in agreement. “I don’t consider matters concerning races a secret, and it’s fine to tell others.”
“Is that so?” Nigolan nodded as if she understood, then looked at the people beside her, “Chito, Yuri, Ishii, may I not tell the children about your race?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Ishii said, engrossed in his book. Yuri, however, said with some surprise, “Aren’t we all human? Are there other creatures?”
“You weren’t paying attention,” Qianhu complained from the side. “There are many other races here, like the pig-headed tribe, the minotaur tribe, and many others.”
“Ah, this sounds delicious,” Yuri began to drool, then turned serious. “Let’s go hunting!”
"Is she a cannibal like you?" Chtholly asked Nigolan quietly, watching Yuri drool. Nigolan rubbed her forehead speechlessly. "No, but you should still call everyone to the cafeteria. I have something to tell them."
"Oh," Chtholly seemed to understand something, and after calling Nephren and Etheria, she gathered all the little ones who were running around everywhere into the cafeteria.
Then William and Thousand Hands sat inside as well, everyone sitting neatly in order, waiting for Nigolan to speak.
Nigolan, now the center of everyone's attention, sighed, "Even if you're looking at me with expectant eyes, what we're going to talk about might not be interesting."
“Well, we’ll talk about that later. Right now, we want to know what the truth you’re trying to say is,” Asya said from the side, and the fairies around her all nodded.
“It might be surprisingly simple,” William said from the side, then, seeing the fairies around him glaring at him, he quickly begged for mercy, “Alright, alright, Nigoran, you can talk to me.”
“There’s really no other way,” Nigolan sighed, and then began to recount, “I think it was last spring, before I was sent here, the Orlando Chamber of Commerce sent me to assist the salvage team.”
“It’s that guy Greg’s,” William interjected, and a few of the little goblins around them lit up with excitement. “The Salvager!”
They seemed very interested in this topic. Although these salvagers seemed like adventurers and were very popular with children, they were usually mostly boys.
“They were a group of unlucky salvagers,” Nigolan continued. “They landed on the ground several times without any luck, until one day a confused worm stepped through the ground and fell underground, where they discovered a frozen underground lake containing a seven-year-old statue of an unmarkable species.”
“It feels like the Ice Coffin Princess,” a little girl said, mentioning a conversation she’d seen, but someone immediately objected, “There’s a man inside the ice, not a princess, and he’s a stone statue.”
After the little ones calmed down, Nigolan continued, "Our companions who can use Cursed Vein Vision saw that it wasn't an ordinary stone statue, but a young man who had been petrified by a curse. It took a lot of effort to bring him back to the island."
“It took a month in the sanatorium to remove the petrification from his body,” Nigolan said, glancing at William, who looked embarrassed. “When he first woke up, he was really something else. He would go berserk whenever he saw a demon or a pig-headed creature, and he couldn’t speak the language.”
"Fortunately, we invited the psychic from the Chamber of Commerce to communicate with him. Only in the end did we learn the truth. He was the last survivor of humanity, a member of an ominous race who treated all races except his own as enemies and fought them until the end, destroying the entire earth."
"Hey!" a group of fairies exclaimed in surprise, then looked at William, who was sitting to the side smiling, and looked him up and down. "William, is that true?"
“It’s mostly true. Thanks to them, I was able to wake up from my slumber, and I also owe a lot of money,” William said with a wry smile, which was an admission that what Nigoran said was true.
Chapter 241 Cute and Adorable
Nigolan, still wearing a solemn expression, said, “I know how you all feel. It may be difficult to accept him immediately, but I hope you won’t be afraid of him or distance yourselves from him.”
"Wow!" The little ones around didn't...
