After finishing their meal, Chito sat down at the table, opened her diary and camera, and began studying the map. Senju and Yuri watched from either side. Senju asked, "Chito, where are we now?"
“This is the area around here,” Qianhu pointed to the edge of the map. “This is probably the coastal area of this outer wall, which is why it’s so cold.”
"Is this a map given by artificial intelligence?" Yuri took out some military rations and distributed them to everyone. She didn't remember Number Six's name either, and asked while chewing her food.
“Hmm, it seems the elevator only goes this far,” Qianhu nodded, looking at the map in her hand, on which she had marked the route, but there were many places she didn’t know, so she could only use question marks to represent them. “But the road that extends all the way to the top definitely exists.”
The two took the military rations handed to them by Yuri and began to eat. They looked at the arrows on the map and analyzed the situation. After a while, they roughly knew where they should go, as the distance along the way still seemed quite far.
"Why did people in the past build such a big city? What happened?" After looking at the map, the commander ate his military rations and pondered.
“Isn’t it because you’re happy that you’re building it?” Yuri said matter-of-factly, but Chito felt a little helpless. “Not everyone is like Yuri.”
"There are probably too many people, so they built a city like this," Senju said from the side. After all, on the same area, the higher the building is, the more people can live there.
"Why build such a big city if there are so many people?" Yuri didn't quite understand Senju's logic; in her view, the two were completely unrelated.
“Because people need something to protect their bodies,” Qianhu said, somewhat understanding. “Such a large city must be able to protect many people.”
“Hmm,” Yuri thought for a moment before giving an example, “like the igloo outside?”
“The igloo is only there to protect us from the cold; there must be some other reason,” Chito thought for a moment and decided that this wasn’t the most important reason.
"It must be war or something," Yuri thought for a while and realized that the reason people needed protection was probably because of war.
“Well, it’s not all about the war,” Chitoge thought, believing there were other reasons. “What exactly is the reason?”
"It's probably so that people can gather together, live, work, and communicate together," Senju thought about the relationship between people and cities. On one hand, it's about protection, and on the other hand, it's about construction. Only when they are combined can a city truly live.
"Ah," Chito stretched, "I feel a little sleepy."
"Oh," Yuri said, seeing Chito's appearance, she ran to the bed, lifted the covers and lay down inside. "Chito, come in quickly."
"Huh?" Chito was surprised, then tapped Yuri on the head. "What are you doing? Take off your clothes before you go to sleep."
“But I want to return the warmth I borrowed,” Yuri sobbed softly, burying her head in her hands. Chito leaned closer to comfort her and then hugged her. “How are you? Warm, aren’t you?”
Chapter 162 Rocket
“Yes,” Chito said, feeling a little lost in the warmth of Yuri’s embrace. Yuri then looked at Senju and said, “Senju, come on over.”
"No, it's not necessary," Senju refused, his voice wavering. He was afraid that something terrible would happen if he went inside, and even if he lost all his health, he wouldn't be able to stop it.
Seeing that Senju refused, Chito didn't say anything. After she and Yuri took off their clothes, they both crawled into the blankets. Feeling Yuri's body under the covers, she couldn't help but touch her all over. "Yuri's body, why is it so fleshy?"
"Hahaha, it tickles," Yuri laughed as she hugged Chito, who seemed to have touched a sensitive spot, making her feel itchy.
"You eat the same amount as me," Chito said, touching Yuri's figure with some dissatisfaction. They ate the same amount, but Yuri was much more voluptuous.
"Well, why is that?" Yuri thought, hugging Chito. Senju, who was watching the two of them playing around, felt very envious. He wanted to run in and join them, of course with impure motives. But after sighing, he returned to his own bed.
“It’s probably because Yuri doesn’t use her brain much,” Chito thought of a reason. Using your brain consumes a lot of energy, but Yuri immediately retorted, “Chiri must be overusing her brain.”
"..." Chito actually felt that Yuri's words made a lot of sense, so he...
As he spoke, he focused intently on the warmth of Yuri's embrace, thinking, "Yuri's embrace is so warm."
The two embraced and slowly fell asleep, leaving Senju alone in the empty, lonely, and cold bed beside them.
When the three woke up again, they found that the snowstorm outside had stopped and the sky had cleared. After eating some food, they prepared to set off.
Chito and Yuri put the necessary items into their backpacks and took them to the car. Senju put away the snow house, then opened a gap in the snow house to allow them to leave. The three of them got into the car and came out of the snow house.
Once outside, the snow on the ground was very thick, but the car could still move forward. The three looked at the surrounding buildings, all covered with thick snow.
“They’re all buried in snow,” Yuri said with a sigh, looking at the snow-covered buildings and machines. “If only the old ones, which were buried in snow, were still visible.”
“Even if it’s buried, it will eventually melt,” Chito said, looking at the snow around him. Yuri patted Chito’s head from behind. “Chito, are you thinking too much? This will consume too much energy.”
Chito ignored her and continued driving, while Senju observed the changes around them. Abandoned machines and houses appeared from time to time by the roadside, but no one paid them any attention.
After some time, the three arrived near a building that looked like a wall, supported by pillars, with an exit at the bottom.
Qianhu took out a map, looked at it, and then drove the car in. "It should be in that direction. What could be there?"
After the car passed through the outer wall, the snow inside became thinner, so Qianhu stopped the car and looked around. After a while, she found the place marked on the map, which was a slope that led to the top of this level.
However, Senju and Yuri noticed a passage in the wall next to them. Yuri excitedly wanted to explore it. "Hey, Senju, let's go in and take a look."
“We should go up the slope on the side to continue,” Chito hesitated, while Yuri ran there with her bag on her back. “But I’m a little worried about what’s at the other end of the passage.”
“We don’t have that much free time to take detours,” Chito said, but she still slung her backpack over her shoulder and followed. “But let’s take a look anyway.”
"Chihiro is so arrogant," Chihiro chuckled from behind and followed, also interested in what was inside.
After he caught up with the two, he heard Yuri say, "After all, there are many things in this world that we don't understand, which is why we want to go to different places to see, isn't it?"
“Well, it’s impossible to investigate everything in the world,” Chito sighed. “A person’s life is very short, and the scope they can reach is very narrow.”
“That’s why there are books,” Senju misunderstood Chito’s words, thinking she meant that this made things happen. However, Chito was referring to the fact that there are very few places people can go, because Chito continued, “After all, people can’t fly.”
After she finished speaking, she heard Senju's words. Just as she was about to ask a question, Yuri next to her exclaimed, "Oh, what's that!"
Senju and Sento looked to one side and saw a tall, round object visible through a wall. The three of them walked over the wall and saw what the object looked like.
Its body was tens of meters tall, cylindrical, and supported by an iron frame. After seeing it, Thousand Hands understood that it was a rocket.
“It’s huge, but it’s a bit tilted,” Chito and Yuri discussed. Senju also noticed this and saw a suspended passage connecting to it from above.
Chito and Yuri wanted to run over to check, but Senju grabbed them, saying, "Wait, it's dangerous there, don't go near it."
"Hey, Senju, do you know what that is?" the two asked at the same time. Senju saw that the two had stopped struggling, so she let them go. "That's a rocket. It can send people and satellites into the sky."
"In the sky? Can this thing fly?" Yuri looked at the rocket with surprise, seemingly wanting to try it out. Senju also slowly approached the rocket. "Yes, it can fly, but its main function is to explore space."
"I don't quite understand," Yuri muttered, and then she looked at it too. When the three of them came to the rocket, they found that it was not standing on the ground, but several meters away from the ground, and its diameter was five or six meters.
Senju looked around at the rocket and saw many thick pipes connected to it, guessing that these were probably channels for injecting fuel.
Yuri, curious, tried to crawl under the rocket, but was stopped by Senju, who said, "Yuri, don't run around."
“Hey, but there seems to be something under that rocket,” Yuri pointed over there, where four things that looked like upside-down bowls could be seen.
"That's where the fire is emitted. Rockets fly by emitting fire from there, so don't go near there," Senju said, grabbing Yuri and lecturing her.
Chapter 163 Man and the Universe
After educating Yuri, the three of them looked around the rocket. Yuri noticed a fixed ladder on the platform next to her, so she climbed up it.
Senju and Sento followed them up. Several pipes, about the thickness of a human body, were placed on the platform.
As they watched Yuri walk forward, the two quickly called out, "Yuri, where are you going?"
“That door over there,” Yuri said, walking around the pipes on the platform, followed by the two others.
"Don't go too far by yourself," Chito called out to Yuri from behind, but Yuri had already stopped at a slightly recessed wall. When Chito got closer, he realized that it was actually a closed door.
Before Senju could make a move, Yuri pressed a few buttons on one side of the door, and the door opened. Yuri looked at the open door with great surprise, "Oh."
"It's open!" The two people who followed behind were also a little dumbfounded, but the three of them still went in, intending to see what was inside. Inside the door was a staircase leading upwards, and the three of them walked up quietly.
After a while, a house appeared at the end of the steps, and a spectacular sight unfolded before the three of them. Yuri looked on in fascination, "What is this?"
“This is probably the universe,” Chito replied from the side, also staring intently at the scene, where there was a 3D projection of the solar system, with the orbital trajectories of the planets marked on it.
“This is part of the universe, the solar system,” Senju added from the side, after all, the entire solar system is really too small in the universe.
"The universe? The solar system?" Yuri murmured to herself, while Chito next to her stared in fascination. "Hmm, this shows the positions of the stars."
Then Qianhu looked at the largest projection in the middle and said, "If this is the solar system, then that must be the sun."
Yuri followed Chitoge's gaze and ran over. "Is this the sun?"
“Yes, this is Earth,” Chito said, standing next to a much smaller planetary projection. Senju, who was preparing to instruct the two on astronomy, felt a little frustrated because Chito had already said everything he wanted to say.
"Was the sun actually bigger than the earth?" Yuri was surprised to find that the sun was actually bigger after comparing the sizes of the two.
“Of course,” Chito pointed to a small sphere next to the Earth, “that’s the moon.”
“Sigh, isn’t the moon a bit too small?” Yuri still couldn’t understand. “The sun and the moon look about the same size.”
"That's because distant things appear smaller," Chito explained from the side. Seeing that he had no chance to interject, Senju took out a piece of paper and began to draw the map of the solar system.
"It seems... I don't understand at all," Yuri thought to herself for a while, but still couldn't understand the reason Chito had given.
Chito continued explaining, "Like this, the planets in the solar system revolve around the sun, while the moon is even closer, revolving around the earth."
"Hmm?" Yuri looked at the projections with a serious expression, then asked, "What are these lines coming from deep within the Earth?"
The two people next to him also looked over. Just now, Senju had simply drawn a few circles and made a map. After hearing Yuri's voice, he saw several lines extending from the earth.
"Huh, was this there just now?" Chito asked in confusion, while Yuri explained, "It suddenly appeared with a whoosh."
“Three of them didn’t turn,” Yuri said, looking at the lines. Unlike the others, they didn’t form a circle. Chito pointed to one of them. “Look, one of them just disappeared here.”
“Is that so?” Senju said in a low voice, looking at the three lines that extended outwards. The line that marked '01' was broken with an 'x' not far from the Earth-Moon system, while '02' and '03' extended to a very far place.
“The second one is over there,” Yuri looked up at the sky, and the two people next to her also looked over. Senju then realized that the line marking '02' had also broken off within the solar system.
"The third one is here," the three of them said, following the lines. "Where did it go?"
Following the line, the three discovered that it led to an upward staircase. They went up, and Chito looked at the line with some emotion, saying, "So it extended upstairs."
"It doesn't seem like a big deal," Yuri said, losing interest in the lines that stretched out towards them.
The three of them went up the stairs to the room above. There were two rows of tables with some documents scattered on them. There was also a row of machines on one side. Next to the machines was a row of windows on the wall, but the glass was all broken, with only some fragments remaining.
Sento picked up a document from the table and started reading it before handing it to Senju. "Senju, what does it say?"
"Hmm, let me see. Communications to the Mars base have been cut off and are suspended," Senju said, looking at the words on the screen in a daze. "This... could it be that some alien creature has invaded?"
"Alien beings?" Qianhu asked, puzzled. "Are there people on Mars too?"
“You can see that rocket clearly from here,” Yuri exclaimed, then asked with some confusion, “What exactly is a rocket for?”
“Those are machines that go into space. This is probably where rockets are launched,” Chito explained to Yuri as Senju stared blankly at the documents. Then, as if remembering something, she added, “Could it be that they use rockets to go to Mars?”
"Hey, it looks like we can go up from over there," Yuri pointed and started shouting.
Thousand Hands put away the documents in his hand and walked to the window to look at them. Only then did he notice that there was an enlarged projection outside, with the Earth marked by three solid lines and one dashed line.
He looked at the rocket standing there and understood. The three solid lines represented three rockets that had already been launched. Two of them were destroyed by something unknown, and the whereabouts of the third one were unknown. The dotted line represented the rocket that had not yet been launched.
“Sigh, going up from there seems dangerous,” Chito somewhat objected to Yuri’s idea, but Yuri also voiced her thoughts, “There might be food or something there. After all, we’re going to space, and who knows what might be hidden there.”
"It looks so shaky, I hope it won't collapse," Chito thought to himself, looking at the narrow passage suspended in mid-air. The passage was supported by only a few slanted pillars, and it looked extremely dangerous.
