"Hehe," Yuri laughed happily, and Chito was speechless when he saw it. "I wasn't praising you."
"I never imagined that primitive weapons could achieve this. I feel like my program has a bug," the autonomous machine said with some surprise after pausing for a while, as if its program couldn't explain the current situation.
“Well, this isn’t a primitive weapon,” Senju said, raising the bow in his hand before making things up. “It’s made with advanced technology; look, it’s even glowing.”
"I see," the self-regulating machine accepted the explanation.
After the two people next to her declined for a while, Chito let Yuri go and get it. Yuri then went over, and as Chito watched Yuri walk near the ball of light, he recalled the scene when he first encountered that construction machine.
"Looks like they really killed that big guy. Is life really that easy to destroy?"
"That depends on how you define life," the autonomous machine next to me said calmly. "But if we don't destroy that big guy, it'll be me and the fish that die, even though we'll die eventually anyway."
"Is that so?" Chito sighed. People, machines, fish, and cities are all alive, but one day life will also end.
After sighing, Qianhu looked at the broken wall next to him and asked, "Can this place still be maintained?"
"Yes, it only damaged the wall. Luckily you stopped it quickly, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to help if the entire facility had been damaged."
While Chito was chatting with the machine, Yuri also walked to the vicinity of the light sphere. In her opinion, these were very beautiful things. When she got close, the light sphere moved to her feet, and then a few pleasant sounds came from all around before the light sphere disappeared.
However, after carefully examining the items, Yuri found nothing unusual. She picked up the items from the ground and discovered that she had several iron ingots and a strange red object in her hand. After casually tossing the iron ingots aside, she took the attractive but oddly shaped object and went back.
"
"Hey, Chito, look! What's this?" Yuri called out as she ran over. Chito was also drawn to what Yuri was holding. "Is this a 'flower'?"
"What's a flower?" Yuri asked, somewhat confused. "Can you eat it?"
“This should be a rose. It’s amazing that plants still exist,” the autonomous machine said, its tone filled with surprise.
"This probably can't be eaten," Senju hesitated for a moment. Although ordinary flowers are edible, she really didn't know if this one was safe to eat, and she needed to save it for later.
"Sigh, if you can't eat it, then it's useless," Yuri said, handing the rose to Senju. Senju, seeing that Yuri didn't seem to have changed, asked, "Yuri, do you feel anything, like your strength has increased or something?"
"Hmm?" Yuri picked up a piece of metal fragment and tested it. After a while, she threw it aside, and the ground next to her shook. "No, it's still the same."
“...Is that so?” Senju looked at the fragments beside him, somewhat speechless. That should weigh about thirty or forty kilograms.
“This place is a mess,” Yuri said, glancing at the newly appeared hole, then sighed with relief. “At least the fish is saved.”
"It's alright, the facilities here are only slightly damaged, they can still be maintained," the autonomous machine reassured us.
“Oh, that’s great. You can rebuild this place now, and then what you mentioned at the beginning…” Yuri said, seemingly forgetting the word she wanted to say. Chito, who was next to her, understood what she meant. “It’s evolution, right?”
“Yes, that’s the one,” Yuri suddenly remembered.
However, the self-regulating machine's answer carried a hint of difficulty: "This is very difficult. With my own strength, I can only deal with things like leaks. After all, I only have the function of maintenance."
“Hey,” Yuri said, a little angry. Chito, who was watching from the side, understood. “Perhaps there are limits to evolution. This city has suffered tremendous destruction, and the people on this floor have disappeared one by one. If there is no reconstruction after the destruction, then it is the end.”
“We still can’t figure out evolution, and we don’t know where the limit is, but hopefully these repaired machines can help you,” Thousand Hands placed five autonomous machines next to him, and then put a pressure plate next to them.
After placing four around the group and one on top, the five gradually stood up. After a brief exchange, the six autonomous machines thanked Thousand Hands.
"No need, let's leave it at that. We're leaving now too," the three discussed for a moment and decided to leave now and continue their journey. "I hope you and the fish can live a long life."
"That's what I hope for too. I hope everyone is healthy," one of the self-discipline machines stepped out. Judging from its appearance, everyone recognized it as the somewhat old self-discipline machine that had always been with them.
“This is empathy,” Yuri realized as well.
Chapter Ninety-One: The Dark Shadow Appears Suddenly
After the three people packed up their belongings, they left, and the autonomous machines began repairing the facilities.
After returning to the car, the three of them got in and continued on their way. After passing through a tunnel, they encountered many more 'fire-resistant' canisters.
"Mmm-hmm," after leaving the edible fish production base, Yuri quickly returned to her usual lively self. Perhaps because she had already taken a nap, she sat in the back humming a song.
The driver in front didn't say anything and continued to focus on driving. Fortunately, there was only one road here, so there was no need to worry about getting lost, since they would have gotten lost long ago anyway.
Senju, reflecting on the battle, realized he had acted somewhat impulsively. Although the outcome was successful, it was a bit risky in retrospect. He decided to consult with the two more often in the future.
As she was thinking this, Senju suddenly noticed four characters on the jar next to her and realized that she had forgotten to mention them. Senju was speechless with herself.
"Yuri, do you recognize those words?" Senju nudged Yuri, who was humming a song beside her, trying to get her to notice the words on the screen.
After looking at them for a while, Yuri's expression turned serious, and she slowly said, "Hmm, I don't recognize these words, Chihiro. Do you know what's written on those jars?"
Senju, who hadn't held much hope for Yuri to begin with, turned her attention to Chito. She saw Chito slow down the car, and then the streetlight beside her slowly uttered, "Fire... I don't know what that means either. What's inside?"
Seeing that Chito continued to focus on driving, Senju began to explain, "That's 'strictly prohibiting anger'."
"Fire is strictly forbidden? What does that mean? Are we supposed to light a fire here?" Yuri thought for a while and began to guess, but her guess was rather terrifying.
The commander in front understood immediately after hearing this. "That's not what it means. Didn't it say it's strictly forbidden? It means don't light it. It probably contains fuel or something like that."
"Yeah, Chiyo is right. Don't light fires when you see these words in the future, they can explode easily." After Chiyo reminded them, the three of them left the area. Yuri picked up her gun and was about to fire a shot at the person behind her.
Fortunately, they had already entered a passage and could no longer see what lay behind them. Yuri, somewhat annoyed, stared at Senju for a while, then suddenly remembered something and pulled...
Thousand Hands' arm started to swing.
"Senju, where's my grilled fish?"
"Grilled fish?" Senju was completely bewildered. He thought for a while but didn't know what it meant. Could it be that Yuri was hungry? If so, then Senju took out a grilled fish and gave it to her.
“No, no, no, not one, but two,” Yuri first held up one finger and shook it, then held up two fingers in front of Senju’s eyes. “You haven’t forgotten, have you!”
"Hahaha, how could I forget?" After laughing for a while, Senju looked at the two fingers in front of him and suddenly remembered, "Isn't this the number two? Cough cough, are you talking about the fish?"
"Yes, it's about the grilled fish," Yuri said, finally withdrawing her finger with satisfaction. Senju had no choice but to give her two grilled fish. Luckily, she had used lava to grill the fish, otherwise there wouldn't have been so many survivors.
Yuri took the grilled fish but didn't eat it. Instead, she took out a food box from her backpack and put the two grilled fish inside.
"What are you talking about?" Chito asked, somewhat confused. The two people behind him were speaking in a mumbled and incomprehensible way, and Chito wanted to know what had happened.
"It's nothing," Yuri said after a moment of confusion, then leaned over onto the carriage and nuzzled her head next to Chito. "Chito, let's have grilled fish later."
"Hmm," Qianhu nodded, his attention now focused on the fish, no longer concerned with the previous conversation.
After driving for an unknown distance, an entrance appeared at the end of the road ahead, with lights coming from inside. After Qianhu drove the car in, he found that it was a horizontal road. One side of the road was a wall, and the other side was a row of streetlights, which looked like a long pavilion. Outside the road, it was completely dark, and there were many steel pieces arranged on the ground.
After turning the car around, Qianhu continued driving along the road illuminated by the streetlights. However, after a while, the road ahead suddenly turned into an upward staircase, blocking the way.
Qianhu slowed down the car, wanting to see if they could get up there, but once they got closer, they realized what was going on.
Under the streetlights, a broken robot lay overturned in front of the stairs. It looked like an autonomous machine. Next to it was a row of benches leaning against the wall, which was covered with signs and text.
When she got here, Qianhu stopped the car. Partly because she wanted to see if she could get up there, and partly because she had been driving for a long time and wanted to rest.
"Let's rest for a bit, and then go take a look over there," Qianhu said, getting out of the car. The two people behind him also got out.
After Chito and Yuri took their backpacks off, they sat on the bench next to them, took out food and water, and prepared to rest for a while under the streetlights and have breakfast.
Qian Shou also took out a few pieces of beef and distributed them to everyone. Then he became interested in the picture on the wall and started to look at it. In the middle of the wall, there was a sign that read 'A-5', and on both sides there were two arrows pointing to the two sides. Next to it was a row of tables from A5 to A10, and another row of tables from B4 to B8.
After thinking for a while, Senju realized that this should be a simple route map, divided in the middle, with this side being area A and that side being area B, but what was used to divide it?
Thousand Hands slowly walked to the side of the road, where there was a line marking on the ground. Only when he saw the railway tracks did he realize that this used to be a subway line.
However, he doubted whether the subway was still in operation and wondered if his minecart could be placed on it. Just as he was about to try it, a rumbling sound came from afar.
Senju felt the voice was familiar and quickly took a few steps back. Chito and Yuri, who were resting nearby, also stood up.
"What's that sound? Is there another big guy?" Qianhu had just finished speaking when the sound from afar grew louder, and a huge, glowing object came running over.
"What is this?" Just as everyone was surprised, the thing ran past for a while before stopping. Only then did the three of them realize that it was a huge black object with lights inside.
Chapter Ninety-Two: Taking the Car
After it stopped, it suddenly opened an entrance on the side closest to Senju and his group. Inside, there was a light, and the group stepped back, becoming wary. However, nothing came out for a while, and then the entrance closed again, and the car started moving forward and drove away.
After a while, the vehicle finally passed through, and Chito and Yuri breathed a sigh of relief. Yuri was a little surprised, "What was that? It looked like a car? It was so big!"
“That must be a tram, a vehicle that runs on fixed tracks,” Chito thought for a while before remembering that it had been mentioned in the book.
“Yes, Chi is right. The tram stops at fixed locations and waits for people to board,” Chi nods and points to the words on the wall next to her. “We are currently at A5. The tram’s route is from A6 to A10.”
"Oh, I see. Then we can save a lot of time by taking the car. It seems like it will be quick," Yuri suggested after hearing the suggestion.
"Yes, that's true. But will the tram ever come back?" Chito asked, glancing at the watch beside him. "And what do these numbers mean?"
"The tram should come back again; that row of stations is across the street."
"That's Zone B over there, and Zone A over here. The trams on the two tracks travel in different directions," Senju explained to the two of them for a while before they finally understood.
After finalizing the action plan, everyone waited there. After adjusting the car, the group waited.
However, after waiting for quite a while without seeing the tram arrive, everyone continued eating. After finishing their food, they packed their backpacks and put them on the tram.
After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, everyone was almost falling asleep when a sound came from afar. Just as everyone snapped back to attention and was about to board the tram, it came running back from the direction it had left, but instead of stopping here, it went straight past.
"..." The three of them were speechless for a moment, as if a cold wind had blown by. After a while, Senju finally reacted, "Ahem, the tram will come back in a while, and the doors on this side will open then."
"Oh, I see. But how long will it take? I'm about to fall asleep while waiting."
"It's alright, they'll be back soon," Senju reassured everyone. Yuri also put down the gun she had picked up and continued to wait on the side.
Senju thought for a moment and then began to explain some biological knowledge to Chito, helping her to understand the composition of living organisms. Combined with the books she had read before, she gained a basic understanding of this knowledge.
Just as Senju was giving her instruction, a sound came from afar. The tram had finally returned. The three of them got ready. Senju started the tram, while Senju and Yuri held their weapons in case there was anything inside.
The tram slowly came to a stop, opening an entrance in front of the three. Senju and Yuri cautiously entered, and Chito drove the tram on as well. After a while, the rear doors closed, and the tram started moving again.
After looking around for a while and finding nothing moving, the three of them felt relieved. After carefully observing the inside of the tram, they found it to be very spacious, with a row of lights on top and windows on both sides offering a view outside.
On the ground of the tram were some broken parts and some broken self-regulating machines. There was a row of benches on both sides that seemed to be for sitting, but they became inconspicuous compared to the open space in the middle.
Seeing that nothing appeared, the three of them started doing their own thing. Senju and Yuri leaned against the car window and looked out, while Chito stopped the car and took out his camera to start taking pictures.
After the tram had been traveling for a while, it seemed to emerge from the tunnel. Senju and Yuri saw that the area below had transformed into a cluster of brightly lit buildings, with the tram traveling above them.
"Chito, look!" The two people by the window called Chito over. Chito walked over and looked outside. She saw many pipes and buildings outside, with many lights shining inside, as if they were alive.
"Wow, what kind of facility is this?" In the short time it took for Chito to ask the question, the tram passed through here and entered a closed passage, and the building was no longer visible.
"Ah, it's getting dark," the three sighed after seeing that there was nothing outside. They then sat down on a bench to rest, next to a broken self-regulating machine.
Senju sat down next to the machine to observe it, while Chito looked at the photos he had just taken with his camera. Only Yuri, sitting in the middle, had nothing to do. "So boring."
Then she looked at Senju, who was studying the machine, and asked, "Senju, should we fix this?"
“Hmm, this is perfect for letting it tell us something,” Senju said. After fiddling with it for a while, he realized that he couldn’t fix it with his own knowledge alone, so he took out the anvil and repaired the autonomous machine next to him.
After the repaired machine was released, it slowly began to move, looked at the three people beside it, and said, "Hello."
“Oh, this one can talk too,” Yuri looked at it with some surprise, feeling a sense of familiarity.
