An hour later, Senju lost interest. The only redeeming quality of the airship was its slow speed. After complaining, he lay down on the chair and took a nap.
After an unknown amount of time, Thousand Hands was shaken awake. He looked around groggily and realized that it was a silver-eyed maid. He didn't know when, but it was already daylight outside. Swann and William were eating at a table to the side.
"Hey, are you awake? Come and have something to eat, we'll be there soon," William gestured to him. Senju stood up, stretched, and sat down to eat breakfast. "Aren't we there yet?"
"It's just ahead."
"We'll be there in about ten minutes," William pointed to a fist-sized floating island that appeared ahead. From a distance, it looked like a strange bonsai. This was the second floating island that Senju had seen before.
While eating breakfast, Senju looked at the island that was gradually growing larger. It was a black, inverted mountain peak. On a circular platform about two or three miles in radius on top, there was a lush green forest. In the middle of the forest, there was a strange building surrounded by several sharp stone pillars that looked like outstretched black fingers.
“That’s a huge black crystal, no, a flowerpot?” William asked suddenly after watching for a while. Swan nodded. “Yes, it’s commonly known as the Marrow of the World Tree. To be precise, it’s a huge amulet, but because it’s so big, no one has ever studied it.”
“I feel like there are different trees growing up there,” William noticed something strange again. Swan nodded. “Well, it’s covered with a small barrier that can generate all four seasons. The thunderclouds around it seem to be some kind of sympathetic model for controlling a larger barrier. I don’t really understand it.”
“I never thought that even a great sage like you would have things he didn’t understand,” William’s words made Swan very unhappy. “A sage is someone who knows what knowledge is necessary. Only someone who doesn’t understand anything would say that others should understand everything.”
"Ah, there's a bug," William said, noticing the air swaying beside him, much to Swan's annoyance. "Listen to me!"
Island number two is quite small, without even a dock, but the airship landed easily. William looked at the airship and praised it, "This ship is great. Give me a seat, and it will be much more convenient to buy things."
"Don't joke around, this is something that can't even be priced yet," Swan said indignantly, making Thousand Hands roll his eyes. Speaking of which, this should be the most technologically advanced product here, it feels about the same speed as a regular helicopter.
Chapter 284 Reunion with the Black Candle Master
After arriving on the island, the three of them walked along the path. On both sides were haphazard plants, some in bloom, some already bearing fruit, and several kinds of fruit hanging on the trees at the same time: apples, grapes, oranges, peaches, all mixed up.
“It’s okay, they’re edible, not poisonous,” Swan seemed to notice that Thousand Hands had noticed the fruit tree on the side and reminded him. William next to him also noticed, “Why are the peaches and apples standing together?”
“It feels like a grafting technique,” Thousand Hands replied from the side, then looked at Swan, “But here, it must be the effect of magic, right?”
“Haha, not bad,” Swan chuckled dryly for a moment, then pointed to the building next to him, “that’s our destination.”
There was a black tower over there, probably made of black crystal, but it was covered with withered trees and spikes, making it look eerie.
“No wonder it’s called the Black Candle Lord, it looks like an evil temple at first glance,” William exclaimed upon seeing it. Swan agreed, “Although I’ve known that guy for a long time, I still can’t understand his taste.”
“Haha,” William chuckled for a moment, looking at Swann’s cloak, which gave him goosebumps all over. “What are you laughing at? Disgusting.”
After walking for a while, a cat maid pushing a cart came up ahead, and Swan greeted her, "Hey, you big piece of trash over there, are you taking a walk?"
“How can you say that?” William said, and then saw a huge black skull jump up from the cart pushed by the cat maid. “It’s you, you stinky fellow, Great Sage. I was just bored.”
Then the skull looked at William and began to float. "Isn't this the hero? Coming to continue the battle that hasn't ended yet? How pathetic, you and I are destined to fight each other to the death..."
“No need for this act,” William waved his hand speechlessly. After seeing it twice, he felt that the image of the Black Candle Lord had been somewhat distorted. In the past, he was the last and strongest obstacle to the guardian star god Eluke Hawkesden.
He has many titles: the Sleeper and the One of Death, the One Who Folds the World, the Father of the Vast Land, the One Who Illuminates the Darkness in the Courtyard of Light. These all symbolize the great power of the Black Candle Lord. However, all that remains here is a silly skull.
"Speaking of which, what brings you here?" Black Candle Lord put away his imposing aura, landed on the handcart, his voice still silly, but his demeanor had become serious.
“Before that, let me introduce you to a guest,” Swan said, pointing to Senju. “This is a guest from another world, Senju.”
"Oh, I didn't expect you to be from the outside world too," Black Candle Master said excitedly, looking at Thousand Hands. "Speaking of which world are you from? Maybe I've been there."
“Um, I’m from a planet called Earth,” Senju said after a moment of hesitation, then continued, “Have you been to other worlds as well?”
“Of course, I traveled to many worlds and planets back then,” Black Candle laughed smugly. “On the starship, I was an important officer.”
"Starship? Is it a spaceship that can travel in space?" Thousand Hands asked after thinking for a moment. Although William had said that a starship was a space, he still wanted to know more.
“It’s not something so low-level,” Black Candle Lord said indignantly. “If it hadn’t suddenly broken, none of the life here would exist, and the Star Gods wouldn’t be here either…”
"Lord Black Candle, that's why I've come here."
"Let's see the world beyond," Swann interrupted Black Candle, "If possible, I'll move everything from here over there."
“I’m not going there, I still need to find my little master,” Black Candle suddenly jumped up, then looked at Swan with a pleading expression, and slowly calmed down. “Never mind, it’s good that this world returns to its original state.”
"The original form? What are you talking about?" William asked, somewhat puzzled. "Also, although I'm sorry, I remember that the Star God is already dead."
“No,” Black Candle Lord shook his head, “Star Gods have no concept of death. Even if they temporarily become dead, they will definitely be resurrected. Moreover, there is another Star God on this floating continent right now.”
"Anyone else? Are they with you too?" William asked quickly, but Black Candle denied it. "No, that's a star god from another world. You should be familiar with his name: the star god from another land, the eighteenth generation of the true hero, Nils D. Freyna."
“Master,” William called softly, then asked excitedly, “Do you know where he is?”
“I don’t know either, I just have this feeling,” Black Candle Lord said, then burst into laughter. “Haha, I am a god after all.”
"Uh," Senju could only stand there blankly as the topic suddenly shifted, since everyone around him was hundreds of times better than him.
“Well, we’ll meet someday,” Swan said, trying to smooth things over, then turned to William and said, “Should we draw a picture and have everyone on the floating island look for it?”
“No need,” William waved his hand. “To be honest, I don’t really want to run into that old guy. I’m just happy to know he’s still alive.”
“Hey,” the real old man Swann called out in dissatisfaction, then looked at Black Candle Lord, “In a few days, I will go to that world to take a look. I’ll leave things here to you and William. Once it’s confirmed, we will slowly move things over there.”
“I understand,” Black Candle Lord also fell silent, then burst into laughter, “I feel like the burden of five hundred years is about to be lifted, and I will soon be able to regain my mighty body.”
“I’m sorry,” Swan said, though he wanted to say something, but he stopped himself. “I’m sorry for being with me for five hundred years.”
"Haha, what disgusting things are you saying?" Lord Black Candle laughed for a while, then fell silent. "I should continue my mission for another five hundred years. I wonder what Lord Red Lake and Lord Emerald Nail will think when they find out I've been slacking off for so long. It's really a worry."
“In that case, we’ll take our leave now. Some people are getting anxious,” Swan said, glancing at William beside him. Swan, who had been thinking for a long time, could clearly sense the urgency William was hiding.
"Well then, see you next time, though by then we might be true enemies," Black Candle Master said slowly as he watched the three leave, but none of them heard him.
After leaving, the three arrived at the place where the airship was docked. Swan wanted to invite the two of them to ride on, but Thousand Hands declined. He took out the airship and then got on with William.
Then, the spaceship slowly slowed down, and a few seconds later, accompanied by a flash of light, the spaceship disappeared from sight, leaving only Swan standing there, sulking because of the sudden strong wind.
Chapter 285 Star God Warrior
Inside the spaceship's cockpit, William seemed to be deep in thought, which aroused Thousand Hands' curiosity about his master. As both a star god and a hero, he must be an important figure.
"William, what kind of person is your master?" Thousand Hands asked curiously. "It seems like the Star God and the Hero are enemies."
“Well, the Star God and humans weren’t originally enemies. According to the doctrines of the Church of Praise of Light, the Star God created humans and this world. It was only later that the Star God wanted to destroy humans that they became enemies,” William said, then fell into distress. “How should I put it, my master is the strongest in the world, but everything else about him is negative. He’s irresponsible, his drinking behavior is terrible, he harasses the girls in town, makes the children read all sorts of trashy books, and his face looks like that of a low-level villain. He has no demeanor of a strong person at all. I will never become like my master.”
After reminiscing for a while, William continued, "But he was also a reliable and knowledgeable teacher who taught me a lot. Those words and knowledge are now deeply engraved in my heart."
"Looks like a good teacher," Senju said, watching William ramble on for a while. She sighed with admiration, thinking that if he were really bad, he wouldn't be talking so much now.
“In one respect, he was a good teacher,” William shook his head with a wry smile. “I was really badly hurt back then. He destroyed my dream of becoming a hero right from the start. But in the end, I still learned a lot of swordsmanship and footwork, which gradually made me a quasi-hero.”
“I see,” Senju nodded, an image of a drunken old man with a bulbous nose holding a sake bottle popping into his mind. “We might meet again, after all, we’re all here.”
“Yes, I also hope to see him again. I have so many questions I want to ask him,” William said, seemingly in a bad mood, before falling silent.
Several tens of minutes later, the spaceship finally arrived at Floating Island No. 68, while a slow-moving airship was also slowly descending nearby. The images also showed...
Then, on the side of the airship, Athena's indignant face appeared.
Both of them breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this. Taking advantage of the remaining time, they quickly landed the spaceship and saw Nigolan waiting there with a group of children, seemingly preparing to welcome Ctholly and the others back.
"Huh?" Nigolan asked curiously when she noticed that the three people behind them weren't there. "Where are Chtholly and the others? Didn't they come back with you?"
"Ah," William said, slightly embarrassed by the words of the person who was there to greet him. The children around him looked disgusted and started chattering. He quickly reminded them, "Ctholly and the others will be here soon. Come over here and get ready."
Senju explained to Nigolan, "We had some business to attend to yesterday and stayed there overnight. Chtholly and the others came back by airship and should have arrived at the dock by now. They'll be back soon."
“Oh, I see,” Nigolan said with a look of disappointment. “I thought Chtholly and William had a romantic night together. I never imagined it would turn out like this.”
"Hey, hey," Senju called out to the two, "If things are like this, what are we going to do with the rest of the people?"
"Oh, speaking of which, Chito and Yuri went to the city yesterday to find jobs, and they should be working now," Nigoran suddenly changed the subject, which surprised Chito. "How is that possible? What could they be doing?"
“Don’t underestimate this little girl. Even Laqi Xu works at the bakery, so taking care of Yuri is no problem for her,” Nigolan said with some dissatisfaction, then added, “And Chito has become a librarian.”
"Are you alright?" Senju asked worriedly. The two of them really seemed to have integrated into each other's lives so easily. "By the way, where's Ishii?"
“She’s over there researching how to modify an airship,” Nigolan pointed to the workshop not far away. “But her airship looks quite strange, and I often go over to help her.”
"Thank you so much, I'll go take a look," Senju said, then prepared to go to the workshop, only to find himself suddenly pulled back by William.
Senju turned around and saw William's anxious and pleading face. "Senju, please make me a cake. Chtholly and the others will be back soon. If I make it now, it won't be ready in time."
"Well, it's fine, but I feel like Chtholly is more looking forward to the cakes you made," Senju remarked, then set up a workbench next to her and created three large cakes. "They're done, where should we put them?"
“Wow, that’s fast,” William exclaimed, then looked at the children around him. “I’ll go get a table and put it on.”
"No need for that trouble," Senju said, placing a table next to her and putting the cake on it. The enticing aroma made the surrounding children drool, and they looked forward to Chtholly and the others' return even more.
A moment later, three figures appeared ahead, two tall and one short. Ignoring the fact that no one cheered but instead stared at them in surprise, Nigolan called out, "Chito, Yuri, Laki, what brings you back? Were you working?"
"Um, this," Laqi Xu hesitated for a moment before whispering, "The party leaders at the bakery and the people at the library are furious and have told Miss Chito and Miss Yuri not to go there anymore."
"What's going on?" Senju asked Raqi Xu quietly, looking at the languid Yuri and the muttering Chito. "Did they do something wrong?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Laqi Xu was still startled and kept apologizing until Nigolan comforted her for a while before she told him the reason.
At the bakery, while everyone else was working, Yuri was also working. However, after the finished products were made, Yuri would start to sneak bites. The same thing happened when selling bread; she always made calculation errors. When it came time to settle the bill, the shop manager discovered the problem, which made the shop manager very angry, and he fired her in the morning.
Senju asked Yuri what she thought, and Yuri's response was, "Hehehe, that shop is great, the bread is delicious, and there are people to play with."
Chito's problem was that, while in the library, he was so engrossed in his books that he ignored the other borrowers who came to borrow books. Eventually, the angry people complained to the librarian, and Chito started running around frantically. However, he became so engrossed in his books that he didn't finish his work and ended up losing his job.
Chapter 286 The Banquet
"How are you feeling?" Senju asked the two of them, a little worried about their mood, but they seemed very happy. "Yeah, it's a lot of fun. We'll try some other jobs in a few days."
"Uh," the group of people around were speechless for a while, not knowing what to say. Fortunately, at this moment, the main characters of the day finally appeared at the door. Chtholly and the others had returned, and the topic was put to rest.
Despite having rehearsed twice, Nigoran and the other children were still very excited to see Chtholly and the others return.
“Welcome back,” Nigolan hugged Athena, while Ctholly looked at William with a mixture of excitement, relief, and fear. William also opened his arms to her, “Welcome back, Ctholly.”
"Yes, I'm back," Chtholly said, tears of joy streaming down her face. She threw herself into William's arms and burst into tears. William stroked her.
His head was comforted there.
The children nearby chatted excitedly with Tiathe, who told them about her experiences in the city, eliciting genuine exclamations of wonder from her friends.
The remaining person, Nephren, remained quite calm, watching the others express their emotions. After a while, everyone relaxed, and Chtholly shyly ran to the side. Then, everyone sat down on the lawn to start the welcome party.
Holding the cut cake, Asya looked at William and Senju with great dissatisfaction, "We were almost there, but we were caught up in the end. This is cheating."
“Haha, it’s good that everyone came back together,” Senju said, looking at William sitting next to Chtholly. “Besides, I didn’t expect the airship to be so slow.”
"Oh, really?" Senju's words sounded like a provocation, and Asya suggested with a grin, "How about we have a race to see who runs faster?"
"Forget it, I have absolutely no confidence," Senju quickly waved his hand, then looked at Asya with a regretful expression, "It's such a pity, I'm super tired right now, I can't run fast at all."
"Really? The fatigue from the battle is still lingering in your body," Senju nodded, taking out a glass of milk. "Would you like to try this 'medicine'?"
"Medicine?" Aiseya sniffed it, then looked at Senju with a puzzled expression. "Isn't this milk?"
“No, this is medicine,” Senju reiterated. Yuri, who was eating cake nearby, also came over. “Hey, Senju, isn’t this milk? Give me some.”
