Chapter 15 The Wandering Pokémon

“Hey, right, that’s it… You have to cut this pork into small pieces, don’t cut it too small…” Heath patiently instructed Farfetch’d on how to make the braised pork in front of him, but Heath also discovered that Farfetch’d seemed to have a real talent for cutting things.

The scallion duck cut the pork exceptionally well, with each piece cut to the same size. The knife skills were also excellent, cutting along the grain of the pork, which resulted in a better texture.

But when it came to the actual cooking and stir-frying stage, the preparation of the scallion duck was like something out of a disaster horror movie, keeping Heath busy and flustered the whole time.

Even though Heath tried his best to teach Farfetch'd, even teaching him step by step, Farfetch'd still managed to burn a pot of pork, which made Heath's stomach hurt.

"Luckily, there wasn't much pork, otherwise I feel like I would have gone bankrupt." Heath sighed as he looked at the pot of pork that had turned slightly black.

Fortunately, Heath had prepared in advance and cut the pork into small pieces, so the loss was not too great.

After several more lessons, Da Long Ya was finally able to make a passable braised pork with fried tofu, but it still hadn't won over the Golden Finger. Heath thought it might be because the taste wasn't very good.

However, Heath doesn't really plan to continue teaching Farfetch'd how to make braised pork with tofu. It's almost lunchtime, and Heath needs to get the ingredients ready as soon as possible.

Heath then had Farfetch'd watch as he made another dish of braised pork with fried tofu. Then he pushed his stall to the street with the most companies in Evergreen City, set up his stall, and waited for customers to come in.

"Meow!" A strange sound rang out, and Heath tossed over the slightly burnt pork from the leek duck without even turning her head.

Hearing a chewing sound behind him, followed by a meow, Heath turned around and saw three cats sitting behind him, staring at him expectantly.

"You guys can't keep taking advantage of me all the time," Heath said with a hint of helplessness as he looked at the cats behind him. These little guys were at it again.

"Ta, ta!" Immediately afterwards, two Ladas emerged from the bushes, cautiously looking around.

Finally, there was an Arbok, its tongue flicking as it looked happily at Heath, its eyes filled with joy.

Looking at the little guys behind him, Heath felt a little helpless, but he still took out the braised pork that hadn't turned out quite well in the experiment with the farfalle duck, took a small bowl from under the stall, poured the braised pork in, and then placed it in front of them.

Looking at these Pokémon wandering the city, Heath squatted down and patted Meowth's head with a smile. Meowth's ears twitched, but it continued eating its meal without any further reaction.

Just like there were stray animals in the city on Earth in the past, there are naturally stray animals in the world of Pokémon as well. These Pokémon were abandoned by their original trainers for various reasons and could not return to the wild, so they could only wander in the city.

When Heath first encountered them, she thought they were people walking their Pokémon, but later she realized that these little guys were stray Pokémon.

“Arbok, it’s not good for you guys to stay in the city all the time.” Heath patted Arbok’s head. This Arbok only had one eye, and it was like that when Heath found it.

Heath thinks that Ekans being abandoned as a stray Pokémon is probably related to its missing eye.

"Hiss..." Arbok swallowed a piece of pork from its mouth, licked its lips with its tongue with satisfaction, and then looked up at Heath.

Heath knew what it meant, and he reached out and touched Arbok's head.

After Meowth, Rattata, and Arbok finished eating, they burrowed back into the bushes. Heath knew they would continue to roam the city; these little guys had their own secret base, a place to live.

"Heath, a bowl of braised pork rice!" As mealtime approached, one customer after another came to the door. Heath didn't have time to think about anything else and focused on serving his customers.

After lunchtime, Heath packed up his stall. At this time, there were basically no customers. This was an experience Heath had gained from operating in Evergreen City for four years.

Every year around this time, a group of trainers embark on their journeys with their starter Pokémon. Hiss saw many children on the street happily talking while holding their Pokémon.

Most of them are Pidgey and Rattata, with a few Pikachu and Eevee occasionally, and the fewest are the starter Pokémon from the Kanto region.

"Hey, little Heath, are you closing up shop now?" It was Giovanni's voice. Heath looked up and saw Giovanni standing in front of him with a smile, dressed in a black suit, with a cat boss by his side.

"Mr. Sakaki! Would you like a bowl of braised pork rice? It tastes pretty good." Heath looked at Sakaki with a smile. It has to be said that although Sakaki is the leader of the Rockets, his performance outside the team is excellent.

Mr. Sakaki gave Heath the feeling of a school principal, but he was also a gentleman and very considerate to the elderly and the girl.

Previously, Changqing City TV had reported that Mr. Sakaki went to a nursing home to do social work. After investigation, it was found that Sakaki went there every year. This time, he was just noticed by the media. Otherwise, no one would have realized that this smiling man was the head of the Changqing City Dojo.

"Well, since little Heath has said so, then give me one. I'm very curious about your new dishes," Mr. Sakaki said with a smile.

Heath skillfully opened the pot, scooped out a bowl of braised pork with fried tofu, and then served it with rice in front of Sakaki.

"Wow, it smells good... Hmm, it tastes great too." Sakaki smelled the aroma in the air, nodded in satisfaction, then took a bite and was even more pleasantly surprised.

Heath looked at Giovanni with a smile. Over the past four years, Heath had often felt that Giovanni was probably not the evil boss in the anime, but rather a kind person.

However, looking at the cat boss next to Giovanni, Heath knew that no matter what, Giovanni was the leader of Team Rocket, and that calm, shrewd, and calculating man was his true face.

"Heath, what are your plans for the future? It's time to get your starter Pokémon and go on a trip." Giovanni asked Heath while eating.

Chapter 16: Specialty Ingredients of Changqing City?

"Me? Me..." Heath scratched his head. Giovanni's question made Heath pause for a moment. It has to be said that in the world of Pokémon, traveling is something every child dreams of, especially embarking on a journey with their own Pokémon.

This is similar to the college entrance examination in China, a life that almost every child goes through. Heath once envied such a life, and he also wanted to travel with his Pokémon.

But now Heath has some other pursuits.

"As for me, I'd probably make more money and then save up to open a restaurant to serve all sorts of guests, right?" Heath said with a smile. Although traveling was very interesting, Heath thought that opening a restaurant was also a good idea.

"Hahaha, that's really something you'd say, little Heath." Sakaki let out a hearty laugh, and the cat boss beside him flicked its tail.

“However, if you want to become a good chef, then traveling might be the best way, because the world is so big, and every city has all kinds of ingredients. Wouldn’t it be a loss if you didn’t go?” Sakaki wiped away the tears of laughter and then smiled at Heath.

Heath nodded. He had considered this issue as well. Evergreen City was an inland city. Although the neighboring town of Pallet Town was right next to the sea, the seafood that could be caught in Pallet Town was rather scarce.

Heath heard that there are some special ingredients in Pewter City, one of which is called Pewter Rice Cake. Eating it can help Pokémon get rid of status conditions, but it doesn't taste very good, so it's not very popular.

"Mr. Sakaki, have you ever eaten any unusual dishes?" Heath looked at Sakaki curiously, wondering what kind of food someone of Sakaki's status had eaten.

"Me? I've eaten a lot of things, but the one that left the deepest impression on me... should be the seafood sashimi in Konoha City, right?" Sakaki thought for a moment and then gave a strange answer.

Hiss's expression turned somewhat strange. Does the phenomenon of eating Pokémon exist in the Pokémon world? This certainly does. Putting aside the Farfetch'd that Hiss caught, Hiss himself knows a lot about it.

For example, Miltank produces Moo Moo Milk, and Three Bees produces Honey. However, in the Kanto region, the one that gives the League the biggest headache and is the only one that will get the League to issue a processing permit is Magikarp.

Magikarp is a magical Pokémon that is very weak in the early stages. As a Water-type Pokémon, it can't even beat Charmander, has very few moves, and has a very low chance of evolving into Gyarados.

In the Indigo League, Magikarp is basically a Pokémon at the very bottom of the food chain, but this Pokémon with little strength has become the most troublesome Pokémon for the Indigo League.

Magikarp can lay many eggs at once, which will then produce even more Magikarp, crowding the water. The most crucial point is that Magikarp has a lot of bones and very little meat, so very few people are willing to eat them.

For various reasons, Magikarp often becomes an infestation in the Indigo League. Magikarp was also the first Pokémon in the Indigo League to be granted a disposal permit. Magikarp that become an infestation will be caught, made into feed, or buried.

"Don't overthink it. The fish sold in Kuroba City are mostly ordinary fish." Sakaki instantly saw what Heath was thinking and waved his hand with a wry smile.

After Sakaki finished eating and paid, Heath finally had some free time. Heath looked at his food and realized there wasn't much left.

"The speed at which I'm making money has increased quite a bit." Heath counted the money he had earned today and nodded with satisfaction. At this rate, if he works hard for another year or two, he should be able to rent a house and open a restaurant, right?

However, Giovanni's words also tempted Hiss. Although logistics in the Pokémon world is developing, it is still not very mature. So it is still difficult to order the ingredients you need without leaving home, just like before.

【The Chef's Path: Collect unique ingredients from each town, research the most suitable cooking methods based on these ingredients, and you will receive a random reward for each town you complete】

Just as Heath was contemplating his future path, a word box suddenly popped up.

"Special ingredients for each city?" Heath stroked his chin. He had to admit that this mission came at a very opportune time, and it helped him solidify his previously hesitant thoughts.

"So what are the special ingredients of Evergreen City?" Heath frowned. Having lived in Evergreen City for so long, he really couldn't remember any special ingredients there.

What Heath was more curious about was what the special ingredients of Pallet Town were. He couldn't possibly make himself a Super Rookie Stir-Fry, could he? After all, when Heath thought of Evergreen City, Super Rookies were the first thing that came to mind.

"Little Heath, what are you thinking about? Staring at your sister's legs without blinking, what are you trying to do? Do you want to get something white on your sister?" A familiar voice twitched Heath's lips; he knew who it was as soon as he heard it.

“Aya-nee...you really are…” Heath looked at Officer Jenny with a mix of amusement and exasperation; he knew who she was at a glance.

Officer Jenny is a top-tier veteran driver in the group, a fighter jet among veteran drivers, and a woman who particularly likes to say outrageous things.

Every time Heath ran into Officer Jenny, she worried that she would be harassed by this old rogue. She didn't expect to be caught off guard today. She should have known better than to be spacing out.

"By the way, Sister Ling, do you know what the specialty ingredients of Changqing City are?" Heath asked immediately, seeing that Officer Ling was smiling and about to speak. He didn't want to know what this old lady was going to say at all.

"Eh? Specialty ingredients?~" Officer Sally pinched Heath's cheek with a mischievous grin, making Heath feel like her mouth was stretched out.

"I wasn't... I wasn't talking about my pancakes!" Heath slapped Officer Jenny's hand, finally freeing her mouth from the torment.

"Hmph, there's nothing particularly delicious in Evergreen City. If I had to say... I remember hearing someone say that in Evergreen Forest, there used to be a special fruit called the Evergreen Fruit. Eating it would grant you powerful superpowers. I think there's some kind of story about that." Officer Sally rested her chin on her hand, sitting on the motorcycle, and gave Heath an answer.

"The Evergreen Fruit?" Heath was taken aback. How come he had never heard of this before?

Chapter 17 Orange Fruit

However, the combination of "superpower" and "evergreen" sounded somewhat familiar to Heath. Could it be that eating the Evergreen Fruit would grant him the power of perpetual life?

Thinking about this, Hiss became a little excited. That was the power of Viridian! In the world of Pokémon, Aura, psychic powers, and the power of Viridian are all very special abilities that only a small number of people can possess.

However, after carefully questioning Officer Sala, Heath felt that it was simply impossible to eat this Evergreen Fruit, since the Evergreen Fruit had always existed only in storybooks.

"This is completely fruitless. It feels like completing the mission in Evergreen City is an impossible task." Heath yawned as he sat on his small stool, basking in the sun.

The warm sun shone on Heath, making him feel listless, while Farfetch'd stood beside him, dozing off.

Originally, Heath planned to put Farfetch'd into its Poké Ball, but Farfetch'd insisted on sunbathing, so Heath had no choice but to let Farfetch'd stand next to her and sunbathe.

Just as Heath was getting a little drowsy, he heard a meowing sound.

"Mmm...mmm~so comfortable...Meow, what's wrong?" Heath stretched and yawned contentedly, then looked curiously at Meow who was peeking out from the bushes.

Pokémon without a trainer are not allowed to appear in human society. This is the League's protection of Pokémon. If they are discovered, they will be captured and then, after a period of training and care, released back into the wild or become another trainer's Pokémon.

But Meowth, Rattata, and Arbok clearly didn't intend to do that, so they lived very carefully every day.

"Meow~" Meow happily pushed a blue fruit into Heath's hand. Heath picked it up in confusion and looked at it. It seemed to be an orange fruit.

Orange Berry is a type of berry that can only be eaten by Pokémon. Some of these berries possess magical properties, and Orange Berry seems to be able to heal Pokémon injuries, but its healing ability is limited.

"Is this... a gift for me?" Hiss was a little surprised. For stray Pokémon, a fruit like the Orange Berry is a rare and precious item.

It's important to know that wild fruit trees are usually occupied by other Pokémon, making it very difficult to steal their berries. Furthermore, companies that grow fruit trees won't allow other Pokémon to try and take their berries.

So Heath really didn't expect that Meowth and the others would actually give him a berry.

"Meow~ Meow~" Meow meow happily nodded, then noticed a pedestrian and immediately pulled its head back.

Seeing the rustling sounds in the bushes, Heath put away the orange fruit with a mix of amusement and exasperation. However, he still felt a sense of joy. Heath had never expected to get anything in return for helping Meow Meow and the others, so this time, the orange fruit brought by Meow Meow made Heath both touched and amused.

"Oh dear, these little guys..." Heath stroked the orange fruit in his hand. This kind of fruit wasn't very useful to him, so he could only put it away for now.

Heath stared at the Orange Berries in the box, lost in thought. He was considering whether these Pokémon foods, like berries, could be used to make food. But what did Orange Berries taste like? What kind of food would be suitable for them?

Heath felt this was a question worth exploring.

"Want to go watch the trainer battles?" Heath yawned. He knew very well that from now until five o'clock in the afternoon, not many customers would come to buy food, so this time of day was when Heath would relax.

Hiss relaxes by watching TV or watching Pokémon battles, which is one of his favorite pastimes.

With that in mind, Heath pushed his little cart toward the Battle Arena in Viridian City. In fact, almost every city has a place where trainers can battle.

The size of a town depends on its scale and the number of trainers within it.
