It doesn't seem so. The main storyline of Bamboo Star was quite excellent when I played it, and it lived up to the name of the game.
What is it that won't work?
In Zhu Youxing's opinion, most of the goods were not as advertised.
The promises made and the vast game world presented to others after the release of Cyberpunk 2077 all seemed like an unfinished product. Too many things were left unsaid. Even now, more than a decade later, this work remains a regret in his heart.
He wanted to change something, or rather, he wanted to make up for this regret; this game shouldn't only have such terrible reviews.
"Everyone, the game I want to develop with 5,000 people is called Cyberpunk 2077. This will be a long-term project, with an initial investment of 300 million US dollars and a development cycle of more than five years. My goal is to create a game that is close to a world."
Chapter 860 A Vast Worldview

"How is GTA's development progressing?"
"The main story has been completed. We later added some stranger missions that you mentioned, to increase the game's depth. At the current pace, it should be released by the middle of the year."
"Sure, but don't make the number of stranger missions too obvious. Displaying too much on the map will make people feel tired. Since it can be released in the middle of the year, Cyberpunk 2077 can definitely start operating now."
Currently, the biggest project produced by Surfers Entertainment is GTA: San Andreas.
There are two teams involved, one from the United States and one from Japan, and members of the motion capture lab's development team also work together. So far, nearly three thousand people have been involved in San Andreas.
This is simply unimaginable in the eyes of other companies today.
The number of employees in these companies alone probably doesn't even equal the number of employees in just one project like Youxing Electronic Entertainment.
The effect of a large number of people is also amazing.
GTA San Andreas is now basically complete, and the game was designed from the beginning to be a sequel to GTA 5.
It shouldn't be too much worse than the original GTA5 single-player campaign.
GTA5's storyline revolves around three characters, while San Andreas's storyline focuses solely on MJ. Since the main storyline cannot be expanded, the goal is to add as many side stories involving strangers as possible.
In the game, you will constantly encounter some strange and quirky people as you roam the world.
These people will have all sorts of different requests and demands. Of course, it's also possible that they just want to say a few words to you. By having enough of these side stories, the depth of the entire game is greatly increased.
Of course, the price of adding so many storylines is that the entire company's 3,000-person team is almost never idle. On workdays, they are working with all their might, with an average work efficiency of over 90%. No one wants to slack off; they only think about doing their best to complete the work within the working hours.
With the San Andreas Bamboo Star no longer needing to worry too much, he was able to confidently begin operating the Cyberpunk 2077 project.
"Kinouchi, you are the most senior producer in the entire team, and also the head of the first development group. This time, your task will be the most challenging. Do you have any projects currently under development?"
Zhu Youxing began calling out names one by one.
Yuki Kiuchi is the head of the first development team at Yusei Electronics Entertainment. He is also a director of the game development department at Yusei Electronics Entertainment, holding a very high position and having achieved remarkable success in Yusei Electronics Entertainment's more than ten-year history.
He always faithfully fulfilled all the game development tasks assigned by Zhu Youxing; he was in charge of the entire Dragon Quest series.
At first, Takeyusei would lead the entire game development process, but when Dragon Quest reached around the sixth installment, Takeyusei basically only provided a general direction for the game's development, and delegated all the remaining power to Yuki Kiuchida.
As the president, Takeyusei couldn't possibly be perfect in every aspect. Moreover, Dragon Quest already had a very stable player base after five or six installments. If Kiuchi Yuki could still ruin the series under such circumstances, then it would prove that this guy doesn't have the leadership talent for game development.
However, Yuki Kiuchida did not disappoint Takeyusei's expectations. He was at least excellent at maintaining the empire, and subsequent sequels to Dragon Quest were able to further improve upon the previous works.
Until the tenth installment, which temporarily concluded the Dragon Quest series, the game reached the top of the industry in terms of gameplay, story, graphics, sound effects, and more. Dragon Quest has become one of the most important series for Yusei Electronics Entertainment.
After the tenth installment temporarily ended the Dragon Quest series, Takeyusei handed over the development of the Civilization series to the first development team. Yuki Kiuchida, who had always worked on role-playing games, faced a brand new challenge. However, under Takeyusei's guidance, he successfully overcame all the development difficulties of the Civilization series and made it shine. Later, Takeyusei simply delegated authority and let the Civilization series develop on its own.
The Civilization series itself doesn't have a clear main storyline; it mainly focuses on gameplay that requires a lot of grinding. As long as the core remains unchanged, the game as a whole will be fine.
Later, the game continued to generate cash revenue through its DLCs, achieving remarkable success.
At this very moment, the development documents that Yuki Kiuchida received clearly stated: "Cyberpunk 2077 Main Story Development Project".
As the head of the first development team, he will be primarily responsible for the main storyline of Cyberpunk 2077 and the overall world-building.
Yusei Kiuchida, who has over ten years of experience in role-playing game development, believes he is fully capable of the task.
Kiuchi Yuki was no longer listening to what Takeyusei was going to say next; instead, she began to read the nearly hundred-page-thick plan with serious concentration.
The project outlines almost the entire story of the game. To write these things, Zhu Youxing once again used his extraordinary energy—his special transmigration cheat—by staying up all night to finish everything.
Cyberpunk.
This is a relatively new term. In the original world, it originated in literary works from the 1970s. It mainly tells the story of people living in a near future world with high technology but low living standards.
Ordinary people's lives are extremely poor and cheap, while the upper capitalist class owns 99 percent of the resources in human society, clearly revealing the famous Eastern saying, "Behind the red gates, meat and wine go to waste, while on the road, frozen corpses lie."
In this world, cyberpunk culture is also quite prevalent, and some corresponding literary works have been created, with an average quality no worse than those in the original world of Bamboo Travel Star.
As for Cyberpunk 2077, it is also based on a literary work.
However, once in this world, there is no background or foundation; everything was created by Zhu Youxing from scratch, bit by bit.
In this world, there are several very famous large companies that are so large that they are almost equivalent to the size of a country, or even the size of many countries combined.
The Arasaka Group is a top-tier company with Japanese family lineage. Their business covers multiple areas, including military industry, civilian manufacturing, banking, and private security.
Comto is a giant corporation born in the near future world of China, possessing cutting-edge military technology, and one of the giants in Cyberpunk 2077.
Military Technology – just from the name, you can tell that this is also a top-tier military technology group.
These giant corporations control the vast majority of the world's resources, dominating the world while simultaneously enslaving it...
Kiuchi Yuki became increasingly engrossed in the story, gradually constructing in his mind a world dominated by large corporations, a world tinged with despair, yet also seemingly possessing a glimmer of hope...
Chapter 861 Is that a problem?
861
In fact, in terms of the overall game world background alone, Cyberpunk 2077 is already at the level of a top-tier game. It's just a pity that the company that made this game was somewhat overly ambitious, and secondly, it was forced to abandon many things and release the game under the influence of capital. This is also a tragedy of companies dominated by various capital.
The game company's team wanted to create more detailed content, but they were forced to compromise with capital. It has to be said that such a company itself has a cyberpunk irony.
However, Bamboo Star in this world has no such concerns.
His savings allow him to make any game he wants without having to consider any shareholders.
Even if making such a game has taken a toll on his health, that's his own business.
At most, I feel slightly sorry for the newspaper director who initially invested in Zhuyouxing.
However, compared to the initial investment and the current returns for this director, it's already an incredible windfall.
Without any concerns or anyone having the right to order Zhu Youxing around, he could do whatever he wanted without restraint.
He wanted to make up for the regrets of 2077 and do his best to create everything he could.
Kiuchi Yuki was already captivated and engrossed in the world-building created by Takeyusei, completely ignoring what Takeyusei was about to say. However, what happened later was indeed no longer of much concern to Kiuchi Yuki, as he was the main person in charge of the entire world-building and main storyline, and his team of a thousand people would also be primarily responsible for the overall world-building of the game.
"Kita, your third development team will be responsible for the Cyberpunk 2077 program code. You need to do everything you can to explore the gameplay itself, and bring out everything you can think of that is beneficial to the game. Then all of us will cooperate with your team to enrich the core gameplay of this game as much as possible."
Kitada Hitomi's third development team was also a veteran development team when Takeyusei was a startup. Although Kitada Hitomi was a later employee, her leadership skills were undeniable. She was able to complete many game programming tasks perfectly within the time limit, and her exploration of gameplay was on par with the members of the tenth development team, and in some aspects, she even surpassed them.
Meanwhile, Hitomi Kitada also had a document titled "Cyberpunk 2077 Programming and Gameplay Planning" in her possession.
This document is also nearly a hundred pages long, and it provides detailed guidance on some core gameplay elements.
Bamboo Star plans to create a lifelike Night City, offering ample gameplay options both inside and outside the city to immerse every player.
In the original Cyberpunk 2077 game, this aspect was the weakest.
Such a large city, yet so empty.
All players can do is wander around the city, then go to designated locations to kill enemies, steal, or attack powerful foes. These are all related to combat, and at most there are some very insignificant mini-games that don't even add any excitement.
But if Night City only has battles and these little embellishments, can it still be called Night City?
Night City should have a lot of content.
Even a roadside sign should have its own inherent meaning, rather than simply being an addition to the scene.
So, in the materials in Kitada Hitomi's hands, Takeyusei listed some gameplay elements that he had originally hoped to see in Cyberpunk 2077.
Through well-planned heist missions, you can become a renowned mercenary, the infamous V of Night City, and the king of Night City's underworld.
Besides becoming the king of the underworld, you can also choose to legitimately buy and operate shops in the game world. You can speculate in stocks, become a high-society figure in the city, and eventually stand on equal footing with top companies.
Players should have almost unlimited freedom in this city.
In the setting of Bamboo Star, you can even create your own company and compete against other top corporate giants. Perhaps in the story, you don't necessarily have to be that nameless nobody who is destined to die. On a dead end where there seems to be no chance, players may have a glimmer of hope, a chance to truly have a future.
Of course, if you really do that, you might become someone who ends up becoming a dragon, or someone who goes along with the evil. Ultimately, what kind of person you want to become should be left to the players to choose for themselves.
This game already has multiple storylines, but Zhu Youxing wanted to add even more endings to the game.
After all, this game has too many regrets; it is an imperfect regret.
"President...Isn't this a bit too much content?"
Kitada Hitomi felt her scalp tingle as she looked at the thick plan.
Is this still a game?
It's as if a truly lifelike world has been created.
This was something he had never tried before.
Takeyusei looked at Kitada Hitomi: "Is this a lot? I actually think it's not enough."
Some of the gameplay elements I mentioned in the materials that weren't originally in the game were actually just a copy.
There are no stock market games, no robberies, and no path to becoming a big shot in Cyberpunk 2077.
However, these gameplay elements are not new. They already existed in the original GTA5 online mode. This is not something that Zhuyouxing imagined out of thin air. Everything about these things proves that they are actually possible and not just figments of imagination.
However, this seemed so unbelievable to Kitada Hitomi at this moment.
With so many features, just putting them all together would require countless lines of code.
Just thinking about it is indeed a bit chilling.
However, Zhu Youxing did not really expect the game to be completed in two or three years. He had long planned to make the game for at least five or six years, or even seven or eight years... ten years was not out of the question.
His only wish is to create a true cyberpunk 2077 that he envisions.
He wants to make this originally incomplete world truly complete.
"President, just including all these features would likely result in countless compatibility issues and bugs, which would be quite..."
