That so-called resignation letter was nothing more than a resignation letter sent out through Stark Industries' legal department, a letter for which no reason could be found whatsoever.
“We are here on behalf of his friends,” Natasha said calmly to Diana, her expression unchanged.
"Snapped"
Diana tossed the golden Lasso of Truth in front of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
Diana raised her chin and told them clearly, "Hold it and then tell me."
The golden Lasso of Truth lay before the four men. For Steve and Clint, it was likely of little use, given their limited espionage skills; even Steve had only recently received some training.
However, Natasha and Hill can be considered to have been trained as secret agents.
"Don't dare?" Diana simply smiled, with a calm and serene quality.
Suddenly, the room fell silent. The only sound was the breathing of the few people inside; there was no other noise.
"Hehe." Diana chuckled softly, then prepared to put away her Lasso of Truth. "Come find me whenever you're ready to tell the truth."
"Wait." Natasha grabbed the Lasso of Truth that was being put away.
The Lasso of Truth began to glow with a golden light.
It's already working now.
“Speak,” Diana said, leaning against the desk with a slight smile as she tugged at the lasso of truth.
Natasha felt like a dog chained to a glowing chain, a feeling that was incredibly uncomfortable.
“Little girl, many people feel the same way you do.” Diana said to Natasha, who was already starting to lose her composure just by holding the Lasso of Truth.
“We came as friends,” Natasha said with a grin, her expression relaxed.
Diana gently pulled the Lasso of Truth from Natasha's hand and put it away.
“Now, we know where Thor is, right?” Natasha took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down after being shaken by the Lasso of Truth.
"Sure, after all, you're telling the truth, aren't you?"
"Where is he?" Natasha asked Diana.
"The Insight Building".
It must be said that having an acquaintance helping out made the construction of the Insight Tower much faster. The Insight Tower is now complete; only some room decoration remains.
Banner is now living in the Insight Tower with Thor.
Moreover, for some reason, Thor now frequently brings wine to the Insightful One's quiet room to visit Hercules, who has been imprisoned for a long time.
“Alright.” Natasha understood as soon as she heard Thor’s current location; this was a tacit announcement that Thor was now one of the Insightful Ones.
Hill felt a sense of relief that Thor hadn't left the little broken ball, or rather, it gave her more confidence to say what she was about to say.
“We want to work with you,” Hill said to Diana.
"And the insightful?"
“That’s right, Thor and Steve will be our representatives in this collaboration.” Hill said to Diana with bright eyes, showing no dissatisfaction whatsoever about Diana’s earlier interrogation with the Lasso of Truth.
"Don't you still have the Avengers?" Diana couldn't understand. She could build a superhero team on her own, so why did she need to cooperate with the Insightful One?
“The Avengers are no longer in our hands.” Hill shook her head.
“That’s really interesting,” Diana laughed.
An organization that proposed the plan was ultimately kicked out of it.
Chapter 105 Shield and Iron Man's First Time
Seeing Diana's obviously mocking smile, the four members of S.H.I.E.L.D. could only hide their embarrassment.
"So why should I cooperate with you? Is there any need?" Diana was completely unconcerned about Hill's previous statement about exchanging Thor and Steve for protons.
"Insightful individuals don't need any overly cumbersome organizations that would just hold them back."
Even Hill and the others didn't object to Diana's view of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a liability.
Sometimes, the sheer size of an organization dictates that there are no shortcuts. It may even lead to being held back and failing to achieve its original goals.
“But we have the most powerful intelligence system in the world.” Hill felt that S.H.I.E.L.D. at least had its merits.
"You've spent decades trying to find this little popsicle?" Diana completely disregarded Steve's feelings as he stood there.
"How did this come down to me?" Steve felt somewhat innocent. He woke up feeling like the whole world was targeting him. And it was a targeting filled with malice.
"Just an example." Diana felt no remorse for making fun of Steve, even though S.H.I.E.L.D.'s motives when they went to find this American soldier might not have been entirely righteous.
If a super soldier is frozen in ice, you can dissect him to examine him if he's dead, but if he's alive, you can just draw his blood, right?
As for whether it will turn into a skeleton? Bones are useful too.
Hill was also speechless at Diana's example.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had been searching for this super soldier for a long time, but they couldn't find him until the Russians finally found him.
“Okay.” Hill couldn’t think of anything that S.H.I.E.L.D. could offer in exchange for this goddess.
"Meow~"
Hill had just pushed open the door to leave when she saw the orange cat crouching at the door.
Gugu tilted its head, showing some curiosity about these people it had obviously never seen before.
“Wait, perhaps there is room for cooperation.” When Diana saw Googoo appear, she thought of something she had given to that black-haired guy before. “I want something, and I want S.H.I.E.L.D. to provide all the equipment that the Inspector needs right now.”
"What do you mean?" Hill stopped in her tracks as she was about to leave.
Diana waved to Gugu.
The little orange cat, with its authentic cat steps, slipped through the gaps between the four members of S.H.I.E.L.D. and nimbly jumped into Diana's arms.
"I never expected an orange cat to be so agile." Natasha was clearly surprised by the orange cat that Diana kept. After all, most orange cats eventually prioritize their orange tabby.
There are very few little guys who can still jump around like that.
“Gugu is not an orange cat.” Diana was just stating the truth, but judging from the expressions of the people in front of her, she probably knew that they wouldn’t believe her.
But it's okay, you'll see in time. Didn't that guy eventually witness Gugu's special abilities too?
Diana always took such things in stride.
"What is that thing?" Hill didn't care what was special about the cat; what she needed now was a force that would allow her to establish herself firmly within S.H.I.E.L.D.
This power can only be given to her by Diana now; even the Security Council cannot provide it.
“I think you guys have seen that thing before, especially the little popsicle.” Diana smiled and glanced at Steve.
"Me? I've only been awake for a short time." Steve had no idea he would know anything about what was going on in S.H.I.E.L.D., let alone be very familiar with it.
"The Cosmic Cube." Diana didn't say anything, but Hill already knew what Diana was talking about.
"Looks like there are some smart people out there. I'm starting to get interested in S.H.I.E.L.D. now." Diana stroked the cat in her arms.
"You're still using that thing?" Steve frowned slightly upon hearing this. That was something Beschmidt used as a weapon back then.
S.H.I.E.L.D. regained possession of this thing, and even with his brain that had been frozen for decades, he could guess that it was definitely not intended for some kind of free energy source.
There's only one possibility: it was used as a weapon.
"I really didn't know that even after all these years, the world hasn't changed. You guys are still thinking of using that thing as a weapon?" Steve chuckled. He had to admire these guys; they never forgot to turn what they had into a killing machine.
“It’s like a nuclear deterrent. That kind of tactic always works. You have it, I have it, and everyone’s restrained.” A confident voice came from the doorway, and Tony Stark with the mustache walked in. “Although I don’t quite know what this Tesseract you’re talking about is, it doesn’t sound like something simple.”
Tony then shrugged at Diana, saying, "I didn't come here on purpose to eavesdrop on your conversation. My goddaughter told me to come and check on you."
Diana simply smiled and didn't care at all about Tony's lame excuse.
How could Wanda possibly ask Tony to come and see her?
"It seems we have a war profiteer among us."
"Looks like the captain's got a good idea of me?" Tony completely ignored Steve's words. "But at least I've given up on that stuff, haven't I?"
"And then you created the most powerful weapon?" Natasha ruthlessly pointed out the actual function of Tony's current armor.
“I’ll emphasize again, those are high-tech prosthetics!” Tony didn’t even look at Natasha, his eyes fixed on the typical American blond heartthrob in front of him. “And I’m helping everyone.”
Natasha simply remained noncommittal, as if to say whatever she wanted.
Tony scrutinized the superhero his father always talked about, the pride of America. A strange hostility lingered in his brown eyes.
“I’ve seen your footage. You’re a guy who only fights for himself.” Steve knew perfectly well that this guy was the Iron Man who was always on the front page in New York and even the United States.
He already disliked this kind of high-profile, arrogant guy. Even Howard Stark back then wasn't as conceited as Tony is now.
"You will never lie on barbed wire and let others step over your body to get across."
“Then I’ll cut the barbed wire,” Tony said to Steve without any hesitation.
Looking around, apart from Diana petting the cat, almost everyone else was staring at him. Especially that annoying captain, who was giving him a look that said, "I knew you were going to try something funny."
"Wow, suddenly they're targeting me?" Tony was a little confused. Why would he be the one being targeted at a time like this? Weren't they all talking about that so-called Tesseract before?
"Gentlemen, I hope you can speak properly," Diana said with a smile to Tony and Steve, who were on the verge of conflict. "Besides, Tony is an Insightful man, not a S.H.I.E.L.D."
But the implication was clearly directed at that American woman with the shapely buttocks.
Tony flashed Steve a bright smile. No wonder, with a powerful backer, he could be so carefree.
Chapter 106 Heartwarming Trivial Matters
Steve genuinely disliked the son of his old friend who was standing in front of him. However, there was nothing he could do. Putting aside the guy's identity, the woman who was currently backing him prevented him from making any further moves.
"Howard's son is going to rely on a woman?" But Steve, unwilling to admit defeat, still said this to Tony.
Tony wasn't angry or moved at all. He even raised an eyebrow at Steve: "I don't mind at all. After all, it feels pretty good to be under the protection of a goddess."
Tony's grinning attitude was like a million-dollar blow to Steve's heart.
He had no choice but to snort and turn his head away, refusing to speak to the kid.
Tony whistled cheerfully and walked over to Diana: "What's up? Any new ideas these guys have this time?"
"It's nothing, they just want to cooperate with us." Diana scratched Gugu's chin and smiled at Hill.
