Diana understood as soon as she heard the voice: the most important opening of Marvel was about to begin.
Diana got out of the car; now the car's function is practically obsolete. I really can't understand why Stark Industries was moved to California.
“Tell Fisk to keep a close eye on my car.” Diana handed the car keys to the receptionist at the Fisk Building and turned to leave.
The receptionist didn't dare to neglect her either. Fisker had warned them long ago that this lady was his most honored guest and that he had to fulfill any request she might have.
But when I looked up, Diana had vanished.
At this moment, Diana is high in the sky heading straight for Stark Industries. The plot has changed; at least the person on the phone now is not Pepper Potts, but herself.
Tony Stark is currently paralyzed and unable to move, forced to watch helplessly as the man he once regarded as a father figure removes the Arc Reactor from his chest.
Even though he now knows that this uncle was the culprit who bribed the Ten Commandments to kill him, he still hopes that he was just confused for a moment.
But now it's very clear that he's like the farmer in Aesop's fable who had the golden eggs, and I'm just the goose he raised.
“I was worried that I might have killed a goose that laid a golden egg, but…” Obadiah took the Arc Reactor he had taken from Tony Stark’s chest into his hand, “Maybe this is fate. You survived and laid the last and biggest golden egg for me.”
The blue light from the Ark Reactor reflected the different expressions on the two people's faces at that moment.
Obadiah's excitement was palpable, while Tony Stark's eyes were filled with utter disappointment and bewilderment. He could only watch as Obadiah spoke the words that had been weighing on his mind.
"Do you really think that just because you came up with an idea, that thing is yours? Your father helped build the atomic bomb. If he were as selfish as you, it's unimaginable what the world would be like today." Obadiah carefully examined the Arc Reactor in his hand and exclaimed sincerely, "It's beautiful, Tony. This is your Ninth Symphony."
“This masterpiece will also be your final legacy.” He sat down next to Tony Stark and continued to speak to him with that kind of elder’s benevolence. “The next generation of weapons will have it as their heart. The world will return to normal because of these weapons, and power will automatically come into our hands, but unfortunately you won’t live to see it.”
Obadiah put away the Arc Reactor in his hand: "It's a pity about Pepper. She's really a good woman, but it's a shame you dragged her into this mess."
Obadiah, who turned to leave, did not see that his golden goose was now beginning to move its body with difficulty.
Chapter 36 The Unexpected Appearance of Justin Hammer
"Looks like I arrived just in time." Diana had just landed at Stark Industrial Park when she saw a convoy heading towards them, with Pepper's Audi S5 leading the way.
But why is that Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Versace that appeared later here? Diana didn't think any secret agent could afford such an extravagant supercar.
"Thank God, Diana. Seeing you here is the greatest comfort to me." Coulson saw Diana as soon as he got out of the car. Although he didn't think there would be any problems with coming to capture Obadiah, Diana's appearance was definitely a shot in the arm.
“Okay, I don’t want to know who this lady is right now. I think we need to find Obadiah, OK?” Pepper Potts’ face was filled with anxiety. She didn’t even know if Tony was still alive.
Coulson didn't say anything more to Diana, but simply nodded to Pepper and followed her into the building that was originally used to ensure the operation of the Arc Reactor, searching for Sector 16.
Diana had no intention of going inside; perhaps she was more curious about who was sitting in that Lamborghini. Tony Stark had absolutely no interest in such a ostentatious supercar.
However, among those who can afford a car at this price point, probably very few would casually buy such a large toy to drive around in.
When the people got out of the car, Diana was really confused.
Those black-rimmed glasses, the 82-parted hair, and that three-piece suit that seemed to be branded onto him no matter the season.
"Wow! What do I see? A beauty!" Sure enough, the opening line matched that idiotic tone.
“I don’t understand why Mr. Hammer is here at Stark Industries. Aren’t you competitors?” Diana glanced at Justin Hammer before turning her gaze to the massive Arc Reactor.
Justin Hammer didn't seem to mind at all; after all, beautiful women have privileges. Especially a goddess-like beauty, whose privileges are even greater.
“I must say, miss,” Justin glanced at Diana’s white dress, “a woman like you shouldn’t be wearing something like this. Doesn’t Antoni know how to treat a beautiful lady?”
"Would you like to come to Hammer Industries? I'll offer you the most generous salary."
Diana turned to look at Justin. Why would this idiot become a partner of the U.S. Department of Defense after Stark Industries? Was it because he was stupid?
When the woman in front of him finally looked at him, Justin couldn't help but puff out his chest, thinking of a peacock spreading its tail feathers to attract a mate, but only beautiful in the front, bald in the back.
“Thank you for your kind words, Mr. Hammer, but unfortunately I have no complaints about my work,” Diana responded gently to Justin’s words. “So why did you return to Stark Industries, Mr. Hammer?”
“Okay, call me if you change your mind.” Justin handed Diana an extravagant gold-embossed business card. “After all, Antony and I are still good friends. He’s not going to compete with me anymore, so I should at least come and help him get rid of those useless pieces of junk.”
Diana understood. To put it bluntly, they wanted to take advantage of Stark Industries' current lowest prices to make a quick buck. Stark Industries' production lines were arguably the best among conventional weapons production lines.
However, it was still not explained why he could come to this place with Pepper. Pepper couldn't possibly not know what the consequences would be if Obadiah were arrested or killed and the CEO of a rival company found out.
At that moment, Pepper ran out of the building in a panic and saw Justin Hammer and the woman being greeted by the agent.
But before she could say anything, a phone call came in. Pepper glanced at it and saw that it was Tony Stark calling before answering.
“Pepper.” Tony’s voice came through Pepper’s Bluetooth headset.
"Tony, are you alright? How come you..." Pepper's heart was already half relieved, but Obadiah's behavior still filled her with panic. Even so, she was concerned about Tony's health.
"I am fine."
“Obadia, he’s gone mad!” Pepper had just mentioned Obadiah. “He made a suit of armor.”
“I know. Did you see that woman, Pepper?”
Pepper looked up at the woman in the white dress and said, "I see her."
"OK, go find her, Pepper! Hurry, go find her!"
Although Pepper didn't understand why Tony wanted her to go find this woman, Pepper Potts always trusted Tony Stark completely.
Just as Pepper walked up to Diana, a mound of earth rose from the ground, a giant steel hand reached out, followed by a tin man with a metallic sheen.
"Oh my god!" Justin had initially only noticed Pepper Potts's convoy; after all, aside from Pepper's Audi, the rest were all Fords—the FBI's favorite model, no wonder he was curious. He even thought he could use this time to get something he'd always wanted, and now there was clearly an unexpected "surprise"!
Regardless of whether what appeared before him was Stark's latest weapon or not, he understood that he had probably gotten involved in some major event.
“I really didn’t expect there to be an extra bonus.” Obadiah naturally noticed Justin Hammer, who had always been a competitor of Stark Industries. “I must say, Pepper, you are a very competent secretary, but it’s a pity we don’t need you now.”
That woman in the white dress? Just kill her too, she's not an important person.
Obadiah completely disregarded Diana; in his eyes, she was merely a byproduct of killing Pepper and Justin. He raised the six-barreled machine gun on his right arm, ready to fire.
But clearly things won't go as he planned.
"Tony Stark, catch!" Diana reached out her left hand and grabbed Obadiah's wrist, then swung her arm and flung Obadiah into the air.
To Pepper and Justin's disbelief, Diana clapped her hands as if she had only tossed a pebble.
Tony Stark also witnessed Obadiah's armor becoming completely out of control due to Diana's immense strength.
"Shit!" Tony quickly adjusted his flight attitude in mid-air, barely dodging the giant baseball Diana threw. Following behind Obadiah's Iron Monger, he grabbed one of the Iron Monger's legs and slammed it hard onto the other side of the open ground.
Pepper stared intently at Diana's left hand, as if it possessed some special charm.
As for Justin? He was already slumped on the ground, staring at Diana in horror. What had he just been doing? Teasing a humanoid female Tyrannosaurus Rex? A female Titan who could single-handedly toss at least a ton of armor into the air??
Justin had completely forgotten about the tin man from earlier.
“Hello, I’m Diana Prince, just call me Diana.” Diana extended her hand to Pepper.
“Pepper, Pepper Potts.” Pepper Potts, as expected of the future leader of Stark Industries, has an extremely strong mentality. She adjusted her mindset in a short time. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Diana.”
“Pepper, I think you might need to deal with that gentleman over there.” Diana tilted her head, gesturing to Justin, who had already fallen to the ground.
"I should have had the security guards stop him." Pepper Potts was focused on Tony Stark at the time, so why would she care about a stupid tagalong?
“It’s alright, I can handle this.” Coulson, looking disheveled, came out of the building.
Pepper could only nod, after all, this so-called Ministry of Land and Resources sounded quite reliable.
“Sir, you need to keep everything that happened today confidential, or we will arrest you for endangering national security.” Coulson walked up to Justin and showed him his agent badge.
It has to be said that Coulson can be quite intimidating when he gets serious.
Justin was clearly out of his mind: "Huh?"
The two women stopped paying attention to what was happening around them and instead focused on the battlefield where Tony and Obadiah were fighting.
One was worried about Tony's safety, while the other was simply enjoying the show.
Chapter 37: They really can tear through armor with their bare hands!
"It may be presumptuous of me, but I still want to ask what your relationship with Tony is?" Pepper glanced at Diana out of the corner of her eye and asked somewhat cautiously.
“There’s no need to be so tense.” Diana was still looking at the battlefield between Tony and Obadiah, but she still answered Pepper’s question. “I have nothing to do with him, and we even have a little conflict.”
"Then why?" Pepper didn't understand why Diana would come here, since it was of no benefit to Diana and was a waste of her time.
Diana looked away and met Pepper's questioning gaze: "Although Tony Stark is indeed unreliable, arrogant and narcissistic."
Diana paused and continued, "But that doesn't diminish the fact that he has an honest and kind heart, even though being around him is always infuriating. Besides, I have an old friend who is very similar to him but different."
Diana couldn't help but think of the Batman who had always lurked in Gotham's shadow—both were wealthy, both used their intelligence to protect themselves, but had different personalities. She couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness; it seemed unlikely she would ever see that little Batman again.
Pepper sensed that Diana's expression was somewhat heavy, but she didn't know how to comfort the woman. Having known each other for less than half an hour, Pepper could only continue to focus her attention on Tony and Obadiah's battle, beginning a new round of anxiety.
Diana briefly cleared her mind before looking again at what the two tin men were doing.
Tony Stark was looking at Obadiah's massive iron form with a troubled expression: "Stan, I must say your modifications to my Ninth Symphony have completely destroyed its aesthetics." He couldn't break through Obadiah's defenses, and with Jarvis's help, Obadiah couldn't hit him either.
However, the two use energy sources from a generation apart, and Tony's current Arc Reactor is completely unsuitable for him to engage in such a long-duration, protracted battle.
On the other hand, Obadiah was not worried at all that his Iron Monger would lose to Tony Stark: "I don't know where you found a power mutant, but that can't save you!"
He raised his arm and unleashed a furious barrage of fire from the six-barreled machine gun.
Tony Stark made up his mind and took off, standing in the sky looking down at Obadiah.
"You upgraded your armor, and I've modified mine too!" A roar erupted from Iron Monger's feet, propelling the cumbersome suit of armor toward Tony Stark. "Nothing can stop me! Not even you!"
“Sir, his armor appears to have the ability to fly.” Jarvis scanned the Iron Monger’s leg armor and placed the rocket-propelled structure onto the faceplate.
“I see it. Take me to the highest altitude and tell Pepper to leave that place.” Tony simply watched Obadiah take off calmly.
"We only have 25% energy left, sir. Reaching the maximum altitude might..."
"I can do math, now hurry up and do it!" Tony looked up and sped away into the sky.
"Miss Potts has been connected."
"Tony! Are you alright?" Pepper's voice came through.
"OK, I'm fine." Tony said to Pepper as he ascended into the sky, with Jarvis occasionally alerting him to the remaining energy.
"Sir, there's still twenty percent left."
"Pepper, get out of there now, and hurry!" Tony completely ignored Jarvis's warnings. "Just show me the numbers on the screen, and keep increasing them!"
He then hung up the call with Pepper.
“Tony!” Pepper was a little scared when she heard the busy tone on the phone. She was afraid that something had happened to Tony.
