It was even more unbearable than painful torture.
"What did you do to me?" Malik stared blankly at his hands, finally unable to hold on any longer, and asked Diana in a somewhat broken voice.
Diana frowned. She had thought that if she deprived him of his power, he would stay put, but now it seemed she would have to sew his mouth shut.
With another wave of his hand, the rising centurion realized he couldn't open his mouth, as if he didn't have a mouth to speak.
To keep Malik in line, Diana even used her divine power to seal his body, keeping him in a static state with no possibility of movement.
“The world is at peace now.” After Diana finished doing all this, she continued to Carroll, “Let’s get back to our previous topic. What’s coming next isn’t really a big deal, at least not as big as what happened today.”
Diana thought about it with some uncertainty, but ultimately decided that the matter of going to find Thanos was unlikely to be as large-scale as the Celestials' affair.
One is a race, the other is a person, plus a bunch of cannon fodder, or maybe an army. There's absolutely no comparison, unless this Thanos is now a sycophant of death.
But that doesn't mean it can't be killed.
With so many Thanos around, can the death gods really take care of everyone? This is a way of lightening the burden on that goddess.
As Diana pondered this, her thoughts began to wander. If Thanos was a simp, then what was death? This was a question worth considering; should she be called a heartless woman, or a sea queen?
Carole, standing to the side, only noticed the increasingly varied expressions on Diana's face, and had no idea what she was thinking. She could only say to Malik, who was completely immobilized, "Don't worry, it's nothing. You'll be back to normal once she leaves."
Carol's voice interrupted Diana's thoughts. Looking at the frustrated newcomer centurion, Diana turned to Carol and said, "How about we go back together after I'm done? Wanda will miss you."
Carol was initially pleased to hear Diana's words, but who knew that the excuse she used would be that Wanda missed her? Only Diana could do that; if anyone else had said that to her, she would have made sure that person taste Captain Marvel's iron fist!
Anyone with eyes could see that he and that brown-haired little guy clearly didn't get along, and the most direct conflict was caused by the guy in front of him with a gentle smile.
Carol took a breath: "I still have something to deal with, and you didn't answer my question directly just now. What are you going to do next?"
Diana didn't press Carroll's abrupt change of topic, simply saying, "That's such a shame."
Upon hearing this, if Carol hadn't been so confident she couldn't twist Diana's waist, she would have certainly taught the woman a lesson in pain. Just as Carol was pondering how to move Diana's waist, Diana's words made her forget all her thoughts.
"The next target is Thanos."
"Huh?" Carol was a little confused. Hadn't that guy been quiet lately? How did he manage to offend Diana? She wasn't worried about Diana's safety, after all, the memory of him slapping all the gods to death hadn't faded yet.
But isn't the leap from the Celestials to Thanos a bit too big?
Chapter 145 A Kiss Goodbye...
"Thanos, isn't that guy always in space? When did he ever provoke you?" Carol knew very well that the cosmic overlord hadn't made any big moves lately. But then she suddenly remembered the Chitauri army that Thanos had always used as cannon fodder, which had suddenly fallen silent.
"Chitauri?" Carol asked uncertainly.
They had absolutely no idea what that madman was thinking. After all, he conquered a planet, didn't govern it, but simply slaughtered half the population, leaving behind a mess before walking away.
Even his reasons sounded quite convincing, as if he were the savior of the universe.
“Yes.” Diana nodded, indicating that Carol’s guess was correct. “That guy did use the Chitauri to attack Earth, but thankfully, only Manhattan was affected the most.”
"I knew it. I should have dealt with those Chitauri guys when I first encountered them." Carol obviously didn't mention the actual leader of the Dark Order. Without seeing Thanos face to face, Carol couldn't be sure if she could defeat him.
Now that Carol has witnessed her close friend's ability to easily kill a god, she no longer harbors any inflated confidence in her current powers. What if that guy, like Diana, is a wolf in sheep's clothing?
Diana nodded, agreeing with the woman's point of view. With Carol's abilities, she could absolutely wipe out the Chitauri. As the weakest biological weapon in this universe, the Chitauri were practically powerless against Carol.
But it doesn't matter. After all, I got myself a big toy, even though Tony lost it. At least I had it, right?
"It's all over now, so here I am, coming to cause trouble for Thanos?" Diana smiled and opened her hands to Carol, completely disregarding Thanos.
Carole could only nod blankly as she listened to Diana's words, certain that her close friend had the confidence to say such a thing.
While the information contained in Diana and Carol's conversation wasn't a big problem for the two women, it stirred up a storm in Malik's heart, who was now powerless to resist.
What are those two women talking about?
Thanos? That infamous cosmic terrorist? He's even more troublesome than the Cosmic Truth Cult.
He knew the combat strength of that blonde Carol; she was definitely one of the top fighters in this star system. Malik absolutely believed her when she said that, after all, it was just a legion under Thanos's command, not Thanos himself.
But it's now clear that the woman who transformed herself isn't looking to cause trouble for Thanos's Black Order or any legion; she's going straight for Thanos.
Malik couldn't understand it, but seeing Carol's confidence in the dark-haired woman, he could only guess that the woman's abilities were superior to Carol's.
After all, he is a ready example now.
He just didn't know if Xandar had sent anyone to rescue him. But judging from the current situation, even if they did, they'd probably be dead just like him.
Now Malik can only pray that the black-haired woman won't target anyone else, and that the Nova Corps' epic defeat will be etched in everyone's memory.
There is no way to erase it now.
However, Malik currently has no means to stop the people sent by Xandar from taking action; he can only lie there anxiously, without any good solutions.
Carol noticed Malik's anxiety, but she selectively ignored his convulsive expression. A beautiful woman right in front of her, and she was going to look at a moron lying on the ground? Even though this moron was caused by the beautiful woman in front of her, looks were everything.
Who can blame Malik for not being as beautiful as Diana?
"So when are you planning to go see Thanos?" Carol decisively ignored Malik's winking and looked into Diana's eyes.
“I might be there soon. Now…” Diana reached out and opened up the space around her, taking out the Flerken that she had placed in another universe.
Judging from Diana's current expression, Carole was certain that Diana must have forgotten about the kitten she had placed in a safe area.
When Gugu came out, it was clear that it wasn't very happy. It didn't even hug Diana; instead, it pounced on Carole's shoulder, clinging tightly to her shoulder and rubbing against her neck to show its affection.
Then the little guy revealed his purpose and started meowing at Carol.
"Meow~" Gugu was accusing Diana of her evil deeds to Carol, allowing a weak, helpless, and pitiful little orange cat to drift aimlessly in another dimension. Is this something a human could do?
Carol simply patted the little orange cat's head to soothe the disgruntled creature.
Diana was a little embarrassed, but since she was the one who brought the little one out, she should naturally take responsibility for the current situation.
"Okay, it's my fault. I won't let you stay there anymore." Diana apologized to the little orange fluffy ball, and the little head that had been perched on Carol's shoulder finally looked at Diana again.
"Meow!" The short, firm meow sounded like a warning from the gull to Diana that if she sent it back into that space, it would be angry, absolutely angry.
"I understand," Diana said gently to the little one.
At this moment, Gugu glanced at Carol, seemingly asking Carol to be the witness to the agreement between the human and the cat.
Carol nodded, indicating to Gugu that she understood.
The little orange cat was finally relieved and satisfied, jumping back into Diana's arms. After all, it now had a witness, and a very important one at that, someone who would at least ensure Diana wouldn't go back on her word.
"You little rascal," Diana said with a smile, patting Gugu on the back.
Gugu stopped causing any more trouble and simply nestled quietly on Diana's shoulder, its little eyes half-closed. It looked completely comfortable and content, showing no trace of its previous demeanor.
"Do you want to come with me?" Diana asked Carol when she saw that Gugu had calmed down. She asked if she wanted to go with her to see Thanos.
Carol declined Diana's offer; she had other matters to attend to. As for Thanos, Diana alone was enough; at least for now, she didn't know who held any absolute advantage over her close friend.
Diana respected Carole's choice, opened her arms, and hugged her.
"See you next time," Carroll whispered in Diana's ear.
"See you next time." Diana gently kissed Carol's ear and disappeared into the Nova spaceship with Gugu.
Only a shy Carol and a recovered Malik remained, although the current Malik was completely shocked by what he had seen before.
In response, Carroll could only glare fiercely at the shocked Malik.
My cold is acting up again today, so I'll be updating late.
Sorry o(╥﹏╥)o
Chapter 146 Temple Number Two
What Carole told Diana earlier was actually the consequence of the Centurion Council, which was directly controlled by Diana.
When Malik recovered from his shock, his gaze towards Carol changed. He looked at Carol with considerable wariness, as if Carol were plotting something sinister against their Nova Corps.
Just like before, Malik has now begun to mobilize his Nova power, ready to trap Carol at any time to prevent her from escaping.
Carol was speechless at his current state; he was being treated like a criminal. Had he really committed such a heinous crime? Besides, he hadn't done it himself. Why didn't he go talk to Diana about it?
But thinking about it, he probably didn't have the ability to go find Diana.
“Mr. Malik, you seem to have misunderstood something.” Carol looked at Malik with a slight smile. Although she knew this might not be helpful, she wanted to at least express her goodwill to avoid a bigger conflict.
Unfortunately, Malik didn't interpret her laughter as a friendly gesture, as Carol had hoped; instead, he saw it as a provocation against the Nova Corps.
Malik said somewhat sullenly, "I hope you, Carol, will stay here quietly and not do anything that could be misunderstood."
Upon hearing this, Carol's face stiffened.
What do you mean by causing a misunderstanding? This is clearly implying that I and Diana have ulterior motives towards the Nova Corps!
"Are you doubting me?" Carol felt a surge of anger. But she maintained a smile; this was not the time to be angry.
“I’m not doubting you, I’m just worried about the Legion.” Malik said, looking at Carol’s expression, trying to ascertain her true thoughts, but he couldn’t discern anything.
That's what Carol thought, though she didn't show it. Now, all she could do was make sure she didn't further provoke the centurion, who was now completely terrified by Diana's actions towards him.
Carol's smile vanished, replaced by a stern expression. She hadn't intended to smile at this guy anyway, and since they weren't very close, she decided not to pretend.
Malik's perception of Carol changed when she suddenly stopped smiling; it was a sign that Carol was ready to fight him. Already somewhat jittery, Malik now mobilized all his Nova power, prepared to fight Carol at any moment and ensure that Carol wouldn't escape.
Carol could only wait quietly for the rest of the Nova Corps to arrive. Malik was definitely not a good person to communicate with right now; he was already convinced that Carol and Diana had some kind of ulterior motive.
The appropriate approach is to discuss this issue with other Nova Warriors who don't yet have this impression.
Even though Carol didn't make any moves to mobilize energy, Malik didn't let his guard down. After all, he couldn't afford to be careless with someone who could fly faster than light at any time.
The atmosphere between the two grew increasingly tense, and it seemed as if the poor new starship would be torn apart by their silent conflict at any moment.
Anyone wouldn't be in a good mood if someone looked at them like a criminal. Just as Carol was starting to lose control of her emotions, the rest of the Nova Corps finally arrived.
"Malik, what happened? Why did you log off earlier?" Before Malik could say anything, a female voice came through the new spaceship's communicator, sounding clearly anxious.
Malik's disappearance came without any warning; he didn't even inform the Nova Corps of the encounter. Given this situation, the Nova Corps essentially sent three centurions; as for more, the Nova Corps simply couldn't spare any more manpower.
Now all we can do is see if the three centurions can rescue Malik from the potential dangers.
Since Malik's mission location was in that star field where the unknown god and the Celestials were conducting their operations, it wasn't impossible for him to encounter some entirely new and dangerous place.
If all else fails, the only option left is to abandon Malik, the centurion.
