Chapter 1, Section 65: The Night Market (Part 1)

In the height of summer.

The sweltering heat swept through the city, ravaging people and making them increasingly listless and lethargic; everything seemed to be sinking into a state of lethargy.

It was at this time that the night market festival was able to barely awaken people's spirits and allow the city, ravaged by the hot weather, to radiate a little bit of vitality.

"That's what they say, but I have absolutely no idea how this festival came about or who it's about. I'm just an outsider who's just joining in the fun."

Standing amidst the bustling crowd, Li Cheng spoke with a hint of helplessness.

"tide, I don't understand. tide, I'm hungry. I want to eat the Four Generations!"

Beside Li Cheng, Yakumo Shio, now dressed in a yukata, raised her hand and spoke with great energy.

"You little rascal, all you think about is eating. You're so simple and happy," Li Cheng patted Xi's head, then took her hand and led her toward the night market. "Come on, let's eat our fill today!"

"Oh!"

Xi was wearing her usual small yukata, predominantly purple with many patterns, tied with a bright red ribbon, and of course, the little cotton hat that she always wore. Xi skipped and hopped beside Li Cheng in her wooden clogs, making a crisp sound as she walked on the ground.

Li Cheng wasn't wearing a yukata. After all, he wasn't a local. Although he had come to live and work in Japan for various reasons, he had retained some of his old habits. He simply couldn't adapt to yukatas, so he wore his own shirt and shorts instead.

The two, one big and one small, strolled hand in hand through the bustling night market. tide curiously observed the surrounding shops and pedestrians, occasionally stopping to catch a whiff of delicious food emanating from a stall. Whenever this happened, Li Cheng would pay. If it was a small amount of barbecue or other snacks, he would buy some so Xi could eat as she walked. If it was something like rice noodles or vermicelli that couldn't be carried, he would buy a portion and wait for Xi to finish eating before continuing on their way.

Xi was in incredibly high spirits, always showing great enthusiasm for all sorts of unfamiliar delicacies. Of course, Li Cheng was happy to satisfy her cravings. Although her appetite was somewhat astonishing, the action team's salary was always high, so he could afford to feed this big eater. Besides, this child wasn't the type to eat recklessly; if Li Cheng told her to stop, although she would show a reluctant expression, she would still obey.

"How is it, tide? This takoyaki is pretty good, isn't it?"

"Mmm, mmm, umm, so delicious!"

"Swallow it before you answer, you little glutton."

I must say, although I don't know exactly what Japan's festival culture is like, it's still easy to get into the lively and festive atmosphere.

With that thought in mind, Li Cheng took a step forward and suddenly saw a somewhat familiar, haughty figure in the crowd, also wearing a bathrobe.

“Gilgamesh…”

"Hey, you bastard, I'm here to enjoy the festival. Don't make me the center of attention."

Before Li Cheng could even call out the other person's name, the man walked right up to him, looking at Li Cheng with a hint of disdain.

After all, he was a transcendent being, among the world's recognized strongest. Even Li Cheng would find it hard not to feel nervous facing such an existence. He hesitated, unsure how to speak. However, the other party clearly didn't care about Li Cheng at all, instead lowering his head to meet the gaze of Xi, who was hiding beside Li Cheng.

"Awoo!"

Shio bared her teeth and struck a fierce pose in front of Gilgamesh.

"Don't do that, tide, it's very impolite."

Li Cheng patted tide's head, but she still looked at Gilgamesh in front of her with an unfriendly expression, her two small hands tightly gripping Li Cheng's trouser leg.

"Hahaha, hahahahahahaha."

To Li Cheng's surprise, Gilgamesh showed no anger whatsoever, but instead laughed heartily. That series of incredibly loud, almost demonic laughs made Li Cheng feel inexplicably embarrassed, yet for some reason, it didn't attract the attention of any passersby.

"You're just like a loyal little dog, she really loves you. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that you're her whole world in this kid's eyes."

After laughing, Gilgamesh, with an interested expression, raised his head and looked at Li Cheng for the first time. Clearly sensing the powerful pressure from the other, Li Cheng stiffened slightly, but did not look away, instead meeting his gaze.

"Hmph, this is barely acceptable, but I still think you're not good enough for this brat, lucky bastard."

After a moment, Gilgamesh looked away and shook his head with a hint of regret.

"Waaah—"

With obvious annoyance, tide voiced her dissatisfaction again.

"Hmph, quite a strong reaction," Gilgamesh chuckled again, watching Shio's threatening (?) actions with great interest. "If that old woman were here to see this, it would be quite an interesting sight, hehehehe."

Old woman?

Li Cheng immediately sensed that Gilgamesh's words had a hidden meaning.

“Um, Ji…”

"If you're hoping to get anything out of me, you'd better give up now," Gilgamesh interrupted Li Cheng without hesitation, waving his hand and saying, "When the time comes for you to know, you will naturally know. I have no interest or obligation to tell you in advance."

With that, Gilgamesh turned around and left.

Ah, here comes another one—the kind of guy who knows something but isn't going to tell you! This kind of character is utterly annoying in any story!

Instead of worrying about things you're not qualified or capable of understanding, you should focus on how to get through your current crisis.

Unexpectedly, Gilgamesh, with his back to him, spoke again.

"If you can't even pass this small test, then you'll only die a filthy and miserable death like a real bastard. Although you look like a disgusting fellow, since that little guy has taken a liking to you, then prove to me with your will that I misjudged you!"

King Gilgamesh has left.

Although the man had already left, it must be said that his words had stirred up a storm in Li Cheng's heart.

Crisis? Test? Death? In other words, will there be a dangerous event in the coming period that could kill me?

Li Cheng didn't doubt the veracity of Gilgamesh's words. The other was a king who had lived for thousands of years, renowned for his wisdom and ability; he had no reason to deceive Li Cheng. However, if there truly was some extremely threatening source, Kiritsugu Emiya's sensitivity would surely lead him to react, unless that power was beyond their reach. If that were the case, it would contradict the king's stance, because Gilgamesh had explicitly stated that this test was one Li Cheng could pass; therefore, the enemy's power wouldn't be so overwhelming.

This is truly a terrible feeling...

Before Li Cheng could think for long, a call came from afar, pulling him back to reality.

"Uncle Cheng!"

Illya, dressed in a pure white patterned yukata, and Shirou Emiya, dressed in a plain yukata, suddenly appeared in front of Li Cheng and Shio.

Thank you so much to the reader Beyond the Fantasy Land for the generous donation!

Thank you to readers Lingfeng, I'm Not a Lolicon, Beyond the Fantasy Land, and Scum-kun for their recommendation votes.

I'm recommending a book called "Detective Conan: Asano's True Nature," a deal from a senior member in our group. It's a mystery novel, and as you can tell from the title, it doesn't break up the original couple. The female lead is Ai Haibara. Those interested can check it out; it's quite well-written.

Next up is the author's note upon release. I've never written one before, and I'm really nervous...

Chapter 66 Author's Note on the Launch

Yes, that's it. It will be available tomorrow.

Emmm... How should I put it? I've always been just dabbling in things. I've written a lot of things sporadically over the years, but this is the first time I've officially published and signed a contract. I feel a little lost.

However, now that it's been published, I definitely need to finish writing this book properly. I've always felt that finishing a book is an author's duty and responsibility. It was with this in mind that I was able to finish my previous book properly, so I will also finish this one seriously (I won't let any of those who praised me in the book review section get away with it!!).

Of course, the more support I receive, the faster and more inspired I will be to write. So please vote and support me! With your support, I can move forward with greater determination.

In addition, the story has now reached its first climax, and some foreshadowing from earlier parts will unfold. The plot will also move into a more tense and exciting phase, with quite intense conflicts. I hope you all enjoy it!

To be honest, I don't have many readers for this book. I guess it wouldn't be a problem to open an unlimited bounty after a while. Anyway, there probably won't be too many people willing to give it, and my writing speed is pretty fast, so writing it will definitely be a breeze (laughs)~

That's all for now. I don't know how many readers will stay after it's published. I hope it will be as many as possible. In short, my writing career has reached a new starting point here.

Let's keep working hard!

Section 67, Chapter 2: The Night Market (Part 2)

"Uncle Cheng, who was that person just now?"

Standing beside Li Cheng, Ilya tiptoed and looked at Gilgamesh, who was walking away in front of her, with some curiosity, and asked a question.

"Oh, what's wrong? Have you seen that person before, Ilya?"

Li Cheng asked with some curiosity.

“No, I haven’t seen him,” Ilya said hesitantly, shaking her head. “I just don’t know why, but when I saw that person’s back, I had this strange feeling that my heart skipped a beat.”

What's so special about this? Can such a young child really have feelings of being smitten?

Li Cheng was quite surprised.

"Oh my, Ilya, could it be love at first sight?"

Suddenly, Chloe, dressed in a blue-black yukata, jumped out and said with a grin.

"Oh, no, that's not true!"

Ilya blushed and retorted loudly.

"It really, really feels very strange, it's like we've met before, and it's a really, really weird feeling!"

With a distressed expression, Ilya tried her best to express her feelings, but judging from Chloe's increasingly mischievous look beside her, it was clear that her efforts had completely failed.

"Ilya probably just confused that person with someone she's met before. Falling in love at first sight is a bit too early for Ilya."

Emiya Shirou answered very seriously, seemingly genuinely considering the possibility that Illya had fallen in love at first sight. His actions immediately made Illya nervous.

"Ilya would never fall in love at first sight with someone else. Ilya has her brother here, and that's enough for her!"

Wow, is this the legendary declaration of brother complex? Li Cheng was shocked.
