Section 42, Chapter 20: The People at the Curtain Falls (Part 2)

"They're moving too slowly. How can they be so slow in their work as my subordinates?"

In the most luxurious room of the New Tokyo Special District's most upscale hotel, a large room on the top floor of the entire hotel, Wang, dressed in a gorgeous casual outfit, lay back on the sofa, swirling a blood-red wine glass in his hand, and spoke to the man standing next to him in a clearly displeased voice.

"There's nothing I can do about it. After all, I didn't want to come here at all. Compared to entertaining a nasty guy like you, there are much more interesting things to do. It's only natural that I'll be delayed along the way."

Emiya Mumei, standing beside him, retorted without any politeness.

"What an impudent subordinate! Does he not even have the most basic manners in front of your king, who is also the savior of your men, you bastard?"

Wang downed the wine in his glass in one gulp and said in a calm tone, looking quite relaxed, clearly not bothered by his subordinate's "disrespect."

"Well, if you're going to entertain the king in such a poor little place, surely you'll still have the proper itinerary. But if you invite the king out of the palace and can't offer him anything of sufficient value, then I will punish you for such disrespect."

As he spoke, Wang tapped the table lightly with his finger.

"At least for now, the palace you have prepared for me is extremely unsatisfactory. This kind of shoddy, unrefined place, which is just a pile of money trying to create a luxurious palace, is not worthy of the king."

"You really dare to say that," Emiya Wuming laughed, as if his competitive spirit had been aroused. "Although it can't compare to a famous city like Uruk where the King resides, it is still a major city with a thousand-year history, and it is one of the best in the world. You look down on this place now, but don't blame me for laughing at you when you are surprised."

Hahahaha—

As if he'd heard the funniest joke in the world, Gilgamesh burst into unrestrained laughter. His laughter was undeniably penetrating and infectious; once heard, it was hard to ignore. In fact, in international interactions, Gilgamesh was famous for his incredibly powerful and witty laughter. No matter the occasion or situation, whenever Gilgamesh started laughing, he inevitably drew everyone's attention. Even without this blatant attempt, he was already the center of attention.

"Since you dare to say that, then let me see what is here that I care about."

"Of course, no problem. Just keep your eyes wide open and watch carefully. But, Wang, don't forget the other thing you promised me."

"Tsk, how disrespectful. When has Wang ever broken his promise? As for you, kid, you're probably about to run out of time too, aren't you?"

"……whispering sound."

With a sidelong glance, Gilgamesh looked at the visibly anxious brown-skinned youth beside him with a look of amusement, then couldn't help but laugh out loud. He then waved his hand and said:

"Go if you want to. After all, it's definitely more enjoyable to spend time with the girl you love than with me, a man. Hahaha! Although I don't know what's so special about this small town that I'd care about, your expression is certainly quite amusing. Hahaha!"

"Think what you want, Your Majesty."

Having received the king's approval, and also genuinely tired of spending any more time with the other party, Emiya Mumei prepared to leave. Unexpectedly, at that moment, the king called him back from behind.

"Wait a minute, do you know those girls around that Chinese man, your friends?"

As if suddenly remembering something interesting, Gilgamesh sat up, his crimson pupils fixed on Emiya Mumei, a hint of amusement in his eyes.

"That girl? I think her name is Yakumo Shio. I'm not really sure. Kiritsugu said she's a distant relative of Jo-senpai and is staying at his house temporarily. Well, it sounds like a lie."

Emiya Mumei answered truthfully, stating that he would never intend to deceive the King. Having spent some time with him, he knew very well that the King was a highly intelligent person; since he had specifically asked, he must have noticed something amiss.

"Yakumo?"

As if he had heard something very interesting, Gilgamesh narrowed his eyes, a slight smile playing on his lips, and lay back down on the sofa.

Is there something wrong with her?

Emiya Mumei keenly noticed the king's unusual reaction.

"She's just a child, she doesn't understand anything, she doesn't know anything. How could a child have any problems? Rather, I'm quite fond of that little devil. Such a pure and innocent child is a rare treasure, no matter where you are."

His voice was languid, but the words he spoke were quite certain about Yakumo Shio. However, he immediately changed his tone, and obvious disgust and even murderous intent flowed out.

"But your senior, Cheng, is utter trash. Entrusting a girl like that to a cowardly and stupid man is like giving a priceless treasure to a farmer, or giving a precious wine to a brute like Iskandar—a complete waste!"

"Gilgamesh?!"

Sensing the stark contrast in Gilgamesh's attitude, Emiya Mumei became somewhat nervous.

"Fool, do I look like a bloodthirsty person? He is not my subject, what does his ugliness have to do with me? It's just that when I saw a pile of dog poop on the side of the road while walking, I felt that my mood was tainted by it, so I was annoyed."

Gilgamesh said lazily, then waved his hand, making a gesture to shoo people away.

"Alright, you bastard, get out of here and go find your little girlfriend. If you fail, I'll include your story in the Uruk joke collection and make you the laughingstock of the whole country for half a year."

"This is truly a punishment that makes one both laugh and cry."

With a sigh, Emiya Mumei turned and left the room, leaving Gilgamesh alone lying on the sofa, seemingly lost in thought.

Why did Gilgamesh show such contempt and even murderous intent towards his senior, as if he were dealing with a pest? Was it because of that girl named Yakumo Shio? No, that's not right. The point isn't Yakumo Shio, but rather how his senior treated her.

As he pressed the elevator button, Emiya Mumei pondered the stark contrast between Gilgamesh's previous attitude and his earlier actions.

To let treasures gather dust? Cowardice? Ugliness? Trash?

There seems to be something extremely complex involved here...

Gilgamesh, as the King of Uruk, has lived for thousands of years, witnessing the rise and fall of countless nations and always protecting the glory of Uruk. This long experience has endowed him with a terrifying intellect unimaginable to ordinary people; even upon first meeting someone, he can easily see through their true nature.

In other words, what was it about Gilgamesh's inner self that made him feel disgusted?

Stepping out of the hotel and looking up at the starry night sky, Emiya Mumei stopped thinking and walked towards the street corner.

Forget it, this is Senior Cheng's own problem, it has nothing to do with me. Based on my years of experience with Senior Cheng, if there really is a problem, I'm sure he can overcome it in the end. After all, even after what happened back then, he still managed to survive, and now he's found Yakumo Shio, a girl who is undoubtedly incredibly important to him. Wuming has seen his concern for Yakumo Shio. Regardless of how the King views Senior Cheng, Wuming is certain that Senior Cheng has truly placed all his heart and soul on that girl, Yakumo Shio.

Hmph, whatever. That king has so many tricks up his sleeve; there's no need for me to speculate. Anyway, this battle between transcendents has now come to an end.

Putting his thoughts aside, Emiya Wuming looked up at the end of the street, as if he had traveled through space and seen the proud and aloof girl with long, flowing black hair, huddled in her room.

You see, she was the one who truly came back here.

Section 43, Final Chapter: Declaration of Proposal

The brief clash between the transcendents quickly spread from New Tokyo Special District to the rest of the world, creating countless waves of discussion. From high-level political talks to casual conversations among ordinary people, everyone was discussing this event.

However, for the sixth team, who were at the center of the incident, all of this was in the past. Moreover, due to the great impact of the incident, headquarters once again granted them leave, and it was paid leave.

For the members of Team Six, this wasn't exactly a rare occurrence. Because of their exceptional combat capabilities, Team Six often handled difficult or complex cases, so attracting public attention and then taking time off to wait for the hype to die down was a common occurrence.

To put it bluntly, they've seen too many storms and waves, and they've chatted and laughed with all sorts of big shots a lot, so they don't feel anything at all.

However, for Emiya Mumei, as everyone knows, he is Shirou Emiya's older brother, Kiritsugu Emiya's former right-hand man, and now the chief engineer of the Uruk Kingdom's heavy industry. For him, this means something different.

Carefully scooping the fragrant, golden-hued dish from the pot into a plate, Wu Ming wiped the sweat from his brow, then picked up the last dish and walked towards the table.

"So slow."

Beside the dining table sat a young woman, her posture quiet and elegant. However, her face was slightly flushed, and her expression was noticeably unnatural. When Wuming's gaze met hers, she immediately and hastily looked away.

“After all, I’m cooking for Rin, so of course I have to put in a lot of effort. Please forgive me for being a little slow,” Wuming said with a smile, placing the food in front of Rin Tohsaka. “Well then, please try it, my Rin-sama.”

"Who's your princess...?"

Blushing, Rin Tohsaka retorted softly, picked up her chopsticks, stammered, "I'm starting," and began to eat.

"Mmm, delicious..."

"Hehehe, how about that? I haven't stopped honing my cooking skills during the year I've been away."

"Hmph, barely passable!" (I don't want to praise you at all)

"Haha, Rin is as dishonest as ever."

"So verbose!"

Although she refused to admit defeat, Rin was clearly starving after a whole day of questioning and filling out forms until midnight. Maintaining her elegance, she quickly finished the meal that Wuming had carefully prepared, exclaiming "So full, so full!" as she got down from the table.

Wuming, who was standing nearby, immediately stepped forward to clear away the dishes, just like an extremely professional butler.

In the quiet little house, the only sound was the running water rinsing the dishes in the kitchen. Rin Tohsaka sat on the sofa, nervously patting her face.

What am I doing? Why do I feel so awkward around him? It's so annoying. Wuming left without a word and then came back suddenly, even showing up at my house. I wasn't prepared to talk to him at all.

"Rin, why is there dust on the bookshelf again?"

Wuming's voice suddenly appeared in front of him. Lin hurriedly looked up and found that he had already washed the dishes and was standing in front of his bookshelf looking at them.

"Where's the duster or rag? I'll wipe it for you while I'm at it."

The other person spoke very seriously, their eyes full of enthusiasm.

Does washing dishes ignite his passion for housework? This guy...

"It's past midnight already! What housework are you doing? You're such a domestic helper!"

Rin Tohsaka said rather bluntly.

"I'm not some kind of housekeeper, and I don't like housekeeping. I just couldn't help but want to help out when I saw how messy your house was, Rin."

Wu Ming waved his hand dismissively, a nonchalant smile on his face. Then, glancing around, his expression turned somewhat helpless.

"I really didn't expect that you would actually move out of your family home and live alone. Although the place doesn't look very clean, being able to live alone, Rin, you've really grown up."

"What's with that stupid dad tone? Of course I can take care of myself," Rin retorted angrily. "And it's not because of my stupid dad, otherwise I wouldn't be renting a place to live by myself."

"Your father? Tokiomi Tohsaka? What happened to him?"

"It's all his fault!"

Clearly harboring deep resentment towards her father, Rin Tohsaka spoke with great displeasure.

"What's wrong with joining the action group? Honestly, he actually said I'm not allowed to go back to the Tohsaka family if I dare to go. And then he actually kicked me out, you old bastard. Humph, I'm doing just fine now, aren't I? That idiot!"

I'm afraid that the real thought in the mind of that stupid dad you're talking about is for you to experience this kind of work and live alone.

Maintaining a polite smile, Wuming thought to himself.

"Speaking of which, Rin, did you join the sixth team about six months ago?"

This kind of thing is obvious without even asking; Kiritsugu specifically called and told Mumei about Rin's request to join Team Six. But he still wanted to ask to see how the girl would react.

"Ugh, uh, does it really matter when I joined? It's not like I joined because you left," Rin said haltingly, her face flushed. Then, as if she had just remembered something, she said stubbornly, as if she had grasped a lifeline, "That's right, I just wanted to experience the work life of the action team and earn money to help my dad pay off his debts in the gem business. It's not because of you, it has nothing to do with you, that's it, yes, that's it!"
