With a gasp, the girl sprang to her feet and shrank behind the sofa like a cat. Only her large, bright blue eyes were visible as she warily watched Li Cheng.

"Don't be nervous, I won't hurt you." She woke up so quickly? That's a bit awful; I'm not very good at dealing with kids.

The girl ignored Li Cheng, continuing to watch him warily, her body slightly retreating. Her eyes darted around every now and then, as if searching for a chance to escape.

They're treating me like a villain.

“Um, don’t be so defensive. I really didn’t mean any harm.” To avoid further provoking the girl, Li Cheng took a step back and carefully tried to communicate. “Hello, my name is Li Cheng. I’m the one who saved you.” He pointed to himself and gave her what he thought was a very kind smile.

"Alas!"

Another gasp escaped her lips, and this time the girl shrank back into the corner, her wariness turning into fear.

This reaction really hurt me...

He had clearly saved her, treated her, and cleaned her body, so why was she so defensive? Li Cheng stopped retreating and started walking forward. But before he could take more than two or three steps, the girl darted to the other side of the room and crashed into the bookshelf against the wall. Several thick, dusty books fell to the ground with a loud thud.

Is this a huge reaction? What do they take me for?

Instinctively, Li Cheng chased after the girl, but she darted off to another spot even faster. This time, Li Cheng became stubborn, determined to catch her before he would stop.

"Stop! Stop right there!"

Thump—plop!

"My TV! Don't you dare barge in here!"

Crackling sounds!

"Are you some kind of monkey, jumping around like that?"

Clang! Clang!

Hearing the loud noise from upstairs, the old man on the first floor adjusted his glasses, took a sip of strong tea, and sighed while looking at the newspaper in his hand: "These young people nowadays..."

Returning our attention to the upstairs, after a half-hour chase, Li Cheng not only failed to catch the energetic little girl, but also made his already messy house even more chaotic, with furniture overturned and debris flying everywhere. Fortunately, Li Cheng's house didn't have any glass products, otherwise it would definitely be full of broken glass by now.

Is this girl really the same little girl who was seriously injured and passed out a few minutes ago? Her recovery ability is just too amazing! Not to mention ordinary people, even magicians who use healing abilities would find it difficult to achieve such efficiency, especially since it seems to be an instinctive self-healing process.

Li Cheng stared at the girl's bandaged shoulder. Although he had stitched it up well, such a violent chase should have caused some of the stitches to come undone, leading to the wound reopening and bleeding. However, there was no such phenomenon; it was as if it had already healed.

The only people he knew of with this level of self-healing ability were the wolf-like superhuman in the Free Alliance Superhuman Covenant and a masked mercenary who had absolutely no morals. The latter had clashed with him several times on missions, and each time the outcome was a draw.

Such a young child possessing this ability—is he a product of some inhumane research group? Did he escape by accident? Calling Emiya over was definitely the right choice.

If he were to get serious, Li Cheng was quite confident he could catch the girl, but the thin floorboards might not withstand a full-force stomp from her. To avoid damaging the building, he had to slow down and play tag with her. As things stood, this agile little one was proving quite difficult to catch.

"Seriously, aren't you tired after going around in circles for so long?"

Stopping in his tracks, Li Cheng looked at the girl perched on top of the bookshelf with a hint of helplessness.

"Waaah—"

The girl arched her back, bared her teeth, and gave off a fierce look, while making threatening noises.

That kind of behavior... do you think you're a cat?

She turned her head and looked at the house, now a complete mess. Hmm, thinking about it, calling her a cat wouldn't be too bad—a small animal with astonishing destructive power.

We can't let this continue; we have to catch her right now!

Having made up his mind, Li Cheng's feet sank slightly into the ground, and with a thud, he suddenly accelerated. Startled by his movement, the girl turned and jumped to the side, but Li Cheng flipped in mid-air, braced himself with one hand, spun around, and changed his direction of travel, stretching out his leg to trap the girl's body in mid-air.

"Waaaaaah—Awoo!"

The girl, suddenly caught in the grip, screamed in panic, then bit down hard on Li Cheng's knee, pushing deeply. Her bite force was astonishing; she tore through his pants in an instant.

But she was completely helpless when it came to Li Cheng's physical body.

Martial artists cultivate their skills, using their own strength to comprehend the universe and hone their abilities. Li Cheng had systematically studied various martial arts techniques, among which he devoted himself most deeply to Iron Shirt. Of course, he didn't achieve an invincible golden body; that was a secret technique not to be passed on to outsiders. But after in-depth study and practice, his body was far stronger than that of ordinary people. A mere little girl of unknown origin could not possibly break through his defenses.

"Woooo..."

Sure enough, the girl only bit a few times before covering her mouth and letting go, tears streaming down her face. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Li Cheng pulled her close, sitting up straight and grabbing her fidgeting little hands.

"Waaaaaah!!"

The girl struggled desperately, and Li Cheng also felt the girl's extraordinary strength at this moment. With his extraordinary strength, he actually felt a little strained to control the girl, which surprised him quite a bit.

But that's all; she couldn't break free from Li Cheng's control.

"Uh...uh..."

Seeing the girl's face flush red as she strained to break free, Li Cheng found it inexplicably amusing. He didn't use his full strength to grab her, lest he hurt her. He simply maintained just enough strength to control her, watching her continue her desperate struggle.

I'm probably about to run out of energy.

Another half hour passed, and the girl finally grew exhausted. She stopped struggling and simply let Li Cheng hold her, her body limp as she breathed and rested. Li Cheng was quite surprised that she could hold on for so long, and his suspicions about her origins deepened. If she really was a sample that escaped from the research institute, her skill level was far too high. There was no reason for her to escape if she had the ability to create tissue of this caliber.

Only when Kiritsugu Emiya arrives, with his far greater knowledge than mine, will he perhaps be able to understand what's really going on with this girl.

Just as Li Cheng was silently contemplating, the girl he was controlling suddenly made a different move. It was a familiar feeling, a palpitation he had only recently experienced. Li Cheng abruptly looked up, meeting the girl's cold, purple eyes, as if light was flowing from them, about to burst forth.

What... is going on?

A strong sense of crisis assaulted Li Cheng's bewildered mind.

With a "click," the sound of the door lock being opened rang out at that moment.

Section 4, Chapter 3: Time Spent Together Begins with Food

"You really are... giving me a lot of trouble, Seung-kun."

"Sorry to trouble you to come and help at this time."

The two grown men were somewhat flustered, or rather, Li Cheng was somewhat flustered as he helped Emiya Kiritsugu bandage the wounds of the injured little girl.

A few minutes earlier, when Kiritsugu Emiya arrived at Li Cheng's doorstep—the very moment Li Cheng had captured the girl who was running away—a strange power was released from her body as she struggled desperately. It was a power that Li Cheng could not comprehend, but was definitely extremely dangerous.

However, it was clear that this fragile girl was not yet capable of mastering such power. As she coughed up a mouthful of blood, her body split open with many bloody wounds, and the power vanished. Meanwhile, Kiritsugu Emiya, who had just entered, saw Li Cheng holding a small, unconscious girl covered in blood, motionless.

"If I hadn't known you long enough, I think I would have shot you right now."

Enveloped the girl's frail body in bandages coated with medicine, Kiritsugu Emiya gently covered her with a blanket and turned to look at Li Cheng.

"Moreover, I must say you were a bit reckless this time. How can you just bring a child with an unclear background and obvious problems into your home? Sympathy is not for this kind of situation."

“I know, but she was indeed injured at the time,” Li Cheng sighed. “And the situation was already unclear. Taking her to a crowded place could also cause problems, so it’s better for me to try it out by myself first.”

"Is that what you think? Hmph, whatever."

After staring at Li Cheng for several moments, Kiritsugu Emiya withdrew his gaze expressionlessly, looked at the sleeping child on the sofa, and frowned again.

"So, what exactly is wrong with this girl? Tell me properly."

He took out a cigarette from his pocket, glanced at the sleeping child, and then put it back. Emiya Kiritsugu and Li Cheng sat facing each other on the ground and began to talk. Or rather, Li Cheng recounted to Emiya Kiritsugu the series of events that followed his encounter with the blonde little girl.

"A black rift in mid-air, with many eyes inside? It makes you feel uneasy? And the pupil color changes? Hmm... It sounds like someone with superpowers, or maybe a magician. No, it's neither. This is a bit troublesome. This is probably no small matter. Cheng, you really know how to bring 'surprises'."

Despite his complaints, Emiya's eyes shone brightly; there was no doubt that this capable man was now fully engaged. While it might seem like a simple matter of picking up a young girl of unknown origin, a few subtle details revealed a hidden, enormous secret.

Emiya retrieved a clean syringe from Li Cheng's medical kit, drew a small vial of blood from the sleeping little girl, and got up to leave.

"I'll go to the lab to check on the girl. She can stay with you for now. Don't let anyone else know she exists."

Stay with me?

Li Cheng was slightly surprised, but quickly figured out the situation.

"You want to investigate this separately?"

“Hmm,” Emiya nodded, stood up and walked towards the door. “Given the abilities and talents she has displayed, her appearance in a place like this... the worst-case scenario is that she's involved in the plans of some high-ranking figure. In that case, we can't let too many people know. I'll leave it to you for now, and I'll give you an answer as soon as possible.”

Just as suddenly as he arrived, Kiritsugu Emiya vanished like the wind.

It has to be said that Emiya always pays close attention to conspiracies and dark organizations that could have a huge impact on the world.

Looking out the window at Kiritsugu Emiya gradually disappearing into the distance, Li Cheng couldn't help but think.

So the next question is how to deal with this little girl of unknown origin.

Turning his head, he saw that the sleeping girl on the sofa had disappeared. Looking further away, he saw that the girl had somehow slipped to the door where Kiritsugu Emiya had left and was trying to open it with a puzzled expression.

Does she not even know how to open a door? She has such poor common sense. Where did she escape from?

The problems revealed in these seemingly minor actions made Li Cheng feel a little sorry for him.

The little girl was like a wary wild kitten, baring her teeth at Li Cheng, the human who had caught her, trying to find a way to escape. It has to be said that this was a very troublesome situation, as he didn't have much experience interacting with pets, although his experience interacting with normal human children wasn't much better.

How can I get rid of this kid's wariness...?

First, they secretly locked the door with an electronic lock to ensure the girl couldn't slip out. The windows weren't a problem; they were made of high-quality bulletproof glass. Even if Li Cheng wanted to get out, he'd need three or four heavy punches to break them, let alone the little girl.

After thinking it over for a long time, Li Cheng turned around and went into the kitchen.

The girl huddled warily by the door, watching him disappear from her sight, followed by a series of strange noises coming from the room he had entered.

Eggs, scallions... uh... there's practically nothing usable. Oh well, fried rice should do. After all that running around for hours, and considering she probably escaped through a lot of blockades, her energy must be incredibly depleted. Even though she looks lively, she should still be attracted to food.

With that in mind, Li Cheng turned on the stove and started making fried rice, one of the few dishes he knew how to make.

After a while, the aroma of scallion oil began to waft through the kitchen, quickly spreading throughout the entire house. Soft footsteps sounded, and Li Cheng, using the smooth reflective surface of the refrigerator, caught a glimpse of a wary yet curious gaze from the corner of his eye. He huddled by the door, tentatively peeking into the kitchen every now and then.

Li Cheng noticed that she would occasionally put her right hand on her stomach, and whenever this happened, she would show a very conflicted and uncomfortable expression.

Does it really work? It feels more like it's enticing small animals.

Feeling inexplicably strange about what he was doing, yet also pleased by the girl's hesitant and conflicted expression, Li Cheng scooped the fried rice into a plate, picked it up, and turned to walk towards the living room.

There wasn't a single girl in sight by the door.

Li Cheng calmly returned to the living room, righted the overturned table, and then, realizing it was a bit too high for the girl, straightened the tilted coffee table and placed the fried rice on it. The aroma filled the room, and Li Cheng immediately heard a gasp behind him.

Turning around, the girl was still huddled in the corner, staring intently at Li Cheng with extremely wary eyes. However, the slight tear at the corner of her mouth could not be concealed at all, or rather, she was not aware of concealing these things.

She's kind of cute...if she didn't run around making a mess of the house.

Once Kiritsugu Emiya finds out her background, he'll decide whether to find her a family to adopt, send her to an orphanage, or some national academy for training espers. To be honest, her current wild and untamed nature doesn't quite match Li Cheng's quiet personality. Although he brought her back on a whim, Li Cheng doesn't think he can take good care of her; her destiny certainly can't be with him.

Replacing damaged furniture alone is a huge expense. Although he is usually frugal and has plenty of money left over, it would be very distressing for him if this happened several times in a row.
