Section 234, Chapter 17: The Author is Pure

The dark labyrinth was filled with the sounds of violent booming and explosions.

Li Cheng coughed up a mouthful of blood, pushed away a piece of rubble that was pressing down on him, and in front of him, amidst the shattered and chaotic maze path, a huge red monster was roaring as it charged toward him.

"These strong and crazy things always give people a headache."

Shaking his slightly sore arm, Li Cheng frowned and took a step just as the monster rushed in front of him, brushing past its body to get behind it. With one hand, he struck the monster's knee joint, causing the huge monster to fall to the ground and crash straight into the wall in front of it.

"Roar!"

The enormous monster, full of energy and showing no signs of injury, quickly turned around and pounced on Li Cheng again without hesitation. Li Cheng, taking advantage of the size difference, moved around the monster's body, constantly looking for an opportunity to counterattack amidst the frenzied attacks.

The once smooth ground had been trampled into pieces during the battle, with some areas even sinking nearly half a meter deep. Perhaps because they had reached the lowest level of the maze, there were no more instances of people slipping and falling to the next level, but this didn't change the current perilous situation.

The enormous red monster was like a humanoid Tyrannosaurus Rex, wreaking havoc on the maze with unbridled ferocity. Its strength was so great that Li Cheng could not confront it head-on and could only move around and dodge, constantly looking for opportunities to inflict damage on it.

Boom!

With a deafening roar, the red monster's fist shattered the already tattered ground beneath its feet. Li Cheng grabbed the monster's raised arm, leaped onto its shoulder, and delivered a powerful kick to the back of its head. The all-out strike created a whistling sound, sending the monster staggering and crashing to the ground. Li Cheng, after landing, rubbed the leg he had used to strike; a slight tingling sensation lingered there.

"With a head this hard, is it made of latteth?"

Cursing under his breath, Li Cheng dodged the monster's ferocious swing, but the shards of stone whipped up by the gust of wind blinded him. He lost his footing and was kicked away, falling awkwardly onto the maze's path.

"Cough cough, uh..."

Enduring the churning pain in his chest, Li Cheng clutched his chest and stood up, only to find the monster already charging towards him once again.

"Roar!"

With a frenzied roar, the monster slammed down with its fist, but just as it was about to hit Li Cheng, it suddenly wobbled and then crashed into the ground beside him.

Li Cheng turned his gaze and saw Tie Feng hiding in a corner, sweating profusely.

Guiding and deflecting attacks—this is precisely Tie Feng's ability. As a former core member of the assault team led by Li Cheng, besides providing technical support, another of his abilities lies in his superpower: the ability to guide and deflect the direction of enemy attacks. However, this ability is weak, only capable of very small deflections, and it often works inconsistently against stronger opponents. Often, his superpower is less effective than his own relatively average, or even below-average, physical attributes among B-level martial artists.

"Your ability actually works on this guy? Damn it, why didn't you use it sooner? You enjoyed watching your former captain get beaten up, didn't you?!"

While dodging the relentless hammer blows from the enormous red monster in front of him, Li Cheng cursed at Tie Feng, who was hiding to the side.

"How the hell was I supposed to know this move would work on an enemy of this size? It usually doesn't even work on A-level martial artists! And so what if I enjoy watching you get beaten up? Come and hit me if you dare!"

Tie Feng was initially stunned when he saw his ability take effect, but after hearing Li Cheng's voice, he immediately retorted as usual.

"Damn, what time is it and you're still being cheeky!"

Li Cheng shouted angrily, almost failing to dodge the attack from the huge monster in front of him. A bloody gash appeared on his cheek, and he had to quickly retreat a few steps to barely avoid another attack that followed.

"Since it's working, keep going! Be reliable, buddy!"

"I'm trying even without you telling me! But it's really hard for me to exert myself with something this big!"

Tie Feng closed his eyes, raised one hand, and began to tremble slightly. In his supernatural perception, there seemed to be an incredibly powerful red light before him, almost suffocating him. But he gritted his teeth, tried his best to extend his ability, and suddenly grabbed the red light.

"Roar!"

The monster suddenly roared, and the hand that was striking towards Li Cheng trembled, slightly deflecting. Li Cheng's spirits lifted, and almost reflexively stepped over the monster's outstretched hand, flipped over, and kicked the monster hard in the chin, knocking it to the ground.

It actually works! Does this guy have a weak resistance to superpowers?

The monster struggled to stand up, but the hand it used to support itself wobbled twice, and it didn't stand up immediately. Li Cheng grabbed one of its legs, used all his strength, and with a roar, forcefully hurled it into the air, slamming it heavily against the wall beside him, shattering the entire wall. The monster was then engulfed in the rubble.

"Roar!!"

The monster roared madly, leaping up from the pile of rubble and swatting away Li Cheng, who had just rushed up beside it. Then, its blood-red eyes focused directly on Tie Feng, who was hiding to the side.

Holy crap!

Having no intention of engaging in direct combat, Tie Feng turned and ran without hesitation after discovering that he was the target, while the monster behind him rapidly approached with a roar. A chilling sense of crisis washed over him, and Tie Feng instinctively ducked forward; the next moment, the wall in front of him was completely blasted away.

The next second, Li Cheng charged forward, rolling past the shattered wall along with the monster. Before he could even get up, the monster grabbed him and slammed him to the ground, embedding him deep into the floorboards.

"Roar!"

Roaring, the monster slammed its fist into the immobilized Li Cheng, but missed again in the next second, striking the shattered ground instead. In another direction, Tie Feng's face had turned deathly pale; he trembled violently, his clothes almost completely soaked with sweat.

Li Cheng leaped from the ground almost instantly, his fingers clenched together like two sharp spikes, unleashing tremendous force. Amidst the exploding crimson blood, Li Cheng's hands pierced the monster's eyes, embedding themselves directly into its eye sockets. Then, with the monster's frenzied roar, Li Cheng roared and pushed forward, his hands completely submerged in its eye sockets, until almost his entire arm was embedded, utterly crushing the monster's brains.

puff-

With a powerful kick, Li Cheng pulled out his hands, which were now completely stained red and white, and landed back on the ground, while the enormous monster collapsed, its body covered in a pool of blood.

"That execution method was truly brutal. As expected of the captain, it was the legendary 'eye-piercing' execution, and the needle was inserted so deeply, completely—it went in!"

Tie Feng, who had collapsed to the ground, wiped the sweat from his brow and began muttering things that Li Cheng couldn't understand.

"Alright, can you still walk?" Li Cheng shook the blood off his hands, took a breath, and then reached out his hand to Tie Feng, who was sitting on the ground. "We still have one teammate we haven't found yet."

“I can’t walk at all, I need kisses and hugs to get up—if you were a beautiful woman, Captain, I would definitely say that,” Tie Feng said with a smile, grabbing Li Cheng’s hand to stand up from the ground. “But you’re a man, Captain, and my orientation is fine, so it feels really bad.”

"Your mouth still needs a good talking to. I'll have to teach you a lesson about the proper way to behave when we get out, even though you're a former captain now."

"What, are you going to go to the locker room and lecture me on why subordinates aren't allowed to kiss their superiors?"

"So please stop saying things that I can't understand at all, okay? A lot of the time I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Captain, you're too old-fashioned! You don't use a cell phone or a computer, and at most you occasionally watch the news on TV. Your lifestyle is too retro. If you continue like this, you'll become out of touch with the times. No, you've already become out of touch with the times; you're simply an incomprehensible old relic!"

Seemingly due to overuse of his abilities, Tie Feng appeared somewhat weak, almost unsteady on his feet, and Li Cheng had to support him as they continued forward. After the two had walked a short distance, a subtle noise suddenly sounded behind them.

Li Cheng turned around and found that the body of the giant monster that he had killed was trembling incessantly, as if it was gradually recovering.

What... what's going on?

To Li Cheng's disbelief, the enormous monster rose once more, letting out a deafening roar. Its eyes, which Li Cheng had pierced, were now completely healed. If it weren't for the blood still flowing from its body, Li Cheng would never have believed that he had just pierced its eyes a minute ago.

Tie Feng was already in a weakened state. Although he had not suffered any serious injuries, given the current state of both sides, the outcome of continuing the fight would likely be quite unfavorable.

Moreover, what exactly is this ability to revive on the spot, and how many times can it be used?

Li Cheng frowned, realizing that the situation was not good.

"That's enough!"

A cold, clear male voice rang out at that moment, and then, in Li Cheng's eyes, several swords and blades descended from the sky, piercing directly into the monster's body. At the same time, a tall man with white hair and brown skin, wielding two swords, appeared on the other side of the maze.

Section 235, Chapter 18: Imitation Individuals, Realistic Boundaries

Emiya Mumei successfully entered the labyrinth barrier about twelve hours after Li Cheng was trapped inside.

"You really look quite disheveled, Senior Li Cheng. Did you roll around in some garbage dump?"

Dressed in a black, tight-fitting outfit, Wuming held his two usual short blades and smiled as he looked at Li Cheng in front of him.

"Instead of wasting time arguing here, let's take down this big guy first," Li Cheng sighed helplessly, wondering why he was always being teased lately. "Just a heads up, I already killed it once, but it revived in about a minute or two."

"It's normal that it can be resurrected, after all, this is that great hero, or rather, a replica of the great hero."

Looking at the roaring red monster in front of him, tearing the swords and knives stuck in its body, Wuming's expression slowly turned serious, and he gripped the twin blades in his hands tightly.

"A great hero?"

Li Cheng was somewhat puzzled.

“Hercules, the mighty god in Greek mythology,” Wuming said softly, looking at the red giant in front of him with a hint of nostalgia in his eyes. “This guy must be a replica created by simulating the mythological concept of Hercules. Well, although it is far inferior to the real thing, this power is indeed terrifying.”

"Simulation concept? Imitation entity? Hey, Captain, is this your friend? What is he talking about?"

Somewhat confused about the current situation, Tie Feng subconsciously asked Li Cheng, who was standing beside him, but Li Cheng, who knew Wu Ming's special circumstances, did not think much of it and immediately went to Wu Ming's side.

"So, Wuming, you know some of this guy's characteristics, right?"

Well, I guess you could say that, though I'm not entirely sure how accurate it is.

As the two spoke, the red monster roared and charged forward once more. The ground crumbled and shattered under its heavy footsteps. Then, with a roar, it leaped high into the air and crashed into Li Cheng and Wu Ming on the ground like a cannonball.

boom!

The impact created a huge crater in the ground, sending up a cloud of debris. Li Cheng dodged the storm and heard Wu Ming's calm voice from the other side:

"Hercules completed the twelve impossible trials, and his story was elevated to legend, which in turn transformed into power. Therefore, he must be killed twelve times to completely eradicate his existence. Moreover, he is immune to the method of injury that caused his death the last time, so twelve different methods must be used to destroy him. At least as far as I know, this is how the original power works."

Wuming raised his hand and cleaved a large piece of rock flying towards him with a single stroke, while speaking to Li Cheng.

"Of course, this guy isn't the original; it's just a replica refined from the concept. It can't compare to the original's strength. Although it's unclear how many times it can be resurrected, it certainly doesn't have the original's immunity or combat experience. In other words, it's just a rather troublesome beast."

As they spoke, the enormous monster swung its hand close, slamming Wuming's head against the wall and ruffling his hair.

"Drink!"

Li Cheng swiftly closed in on the monster's body, delivering a punch to its shin that sent it staggering and half-kneeling on the ground. Wu Ming then raised his hand, projecting two sharp longswords that instantly pierced through the monster's other leg as well.

Magic flowed into the twin blades in Wuming's hands, transforming the originally shorter blades into enormous, spiked blades. Wuming lightly touched the ground with his toes, leaping into the air and flinging the twin blades, instantly piercing through the monster's shoulders, causing its arms to hang limply.

"So, this is—a second life!"

With a cold snort, Wuming, who was still in mid-air, extended a simple longbow from his hand and pierced the monster's head with an arrow.

"Roar!"

With a feeble roar, the monster lowered its head, its vital signs fading once more. But even faster than before, its body rapidly regenerated, all its original wounds disappearing, and the swords embedded in its body being expelled. In less than a minute or two, it roared and stood up once more.

Has it been resurrected again? Moreover, its physical strength seems to have increased a lot as well, so it seems to have inherited some of the advantages of the original version.
