In the fifth installment of the series, Yggdrasil appears to be the ultimate boss. However, the true culprit behind the conflict between the Digital World and the Human World, and the real boss, is actually a human—Akihiro Kurata.

Because he acted rashly during his exploration of the Digital World and was attacked by a Digimon, he has harbored a deep fear and hostility towards Digimon ever since, and hopes to eliminate all Digimon.

Harboring this inexplicable belief, Kurata developed the Digimon Annihilation Weapon Gizmon, researched Bio-Digimon technology, and freed Belphemon, one of the Seven Great Demon Lords. Even the reason so many Digimon infiltrated the human world was because Kurata repeatedly used Time-Space Tremor Bombs to breach the World Wall, ultimately causing the catastrophic collision between the Digital World and the Human World.

It's fair to say that without Kurata, the world of the fifth season wouldn't have all this messy chaos. The original Digital World Expedition might even have established a friendly relationship with the Digimon of the Digital World, allowing the two worlds to coexist peacefully.

The poor World Tree no longer has to be betrayed by its own knight time and time again.
