"That's a great suggestion."
Professor Miyano nodded in agreement.
Xu Ming and Kato Megumi exchanged a glance, and Kato Megumi nodded slightly.
"We have no objection."
Next, we'll assign rooms.
"In that case, I'll inspect the disinfection room."
At this point, Tomohito Suzuki spoke up.
A hint of surprise flashed in Xu Ming's eyes.
Although the disinfection room is the smallest of the three rooms, the two classrooms inside are so spacious that it's almost impossible for a person to hide inside.
Chapter Sixty-Three: "We're in Trouble"
The disinfection room is different; there are so many places to hide: in the shower stalls, in the wardrobes, even under the chairs...
In other words, the disinfection room is the most dangerous of the three rooms.
Xu Ming's goodwill towards Suzuki Tomohito increased as he took on the riskiest task himself.
However, after a thorough search, the three of them found nothing.
After the four people met up, they began to discuss what to do next.
"What other places on the basement level could someone hide that we hadn't considered?"
Suzuki Tomohito suddenly looked enlightened and blurted out a word.
"Ventilation ducts!"
For underground facilities, especially in densely populated areas like classrooms, ventilation is an unavoidable issue.
Because the medical building was built a long time ago, it was difficult to install more advanced ventilation and filtration systems at the time. In order to ensure air circulation on the first basement floor, the ventilation ducts were all enormous.
The ventilation duct is nearly a meter square; hiding a person in such a duct is no problem at all.
This makes the inspection process more complicated.
The combined length of the ventilation and lighting in all the rooms is one or two hundred meters, and with all the branching paths, it's almost an impossible task.
What Xu Ming really wanted to talk about was another place that everyone had overlooked: the row of freezers in the morgue.
Xu Ming roughly counted that the row of freezers had more than fifty doors, enough for an intruder to hide inside.
However, the creature hiding in the freezer where the body is stored could not possibly be human.
The low temperature of a freezer alone can freeze a normal person to death inside. Add to that the cramped and dark environment, and it can drive a normal person insane.
However, Xu Ming did not offer his own opinion.
This conjecture is based on the premise that it is 'visible'.
Professor Miyano, that stubborn old man, has already decided that the prisoner is alive.
Xu Ming was too lazy to say anything, lest he upset himself.
As Xu Ming was pondering, the stubborn old man started causing trouble again.
"Hmph! I'll stay in the morgue tonight; I happen to have several bodies that need autopsies."
"Professor, this is too dangerous. Let's stay in the office together."
"No! I want to see which bastard dares to cause trouble right in front of me!"
Professor Miyano, for reasons unknown, insisted on staying in the morgue. Despite Tomohito Suzuki's earnest attempts to persuade him, the stubborn old man was determined to remain there.
Left with no other choice, Suzuki Tomohito could only discuss with Xu Ming and Kato Megumi that he and the professor's group would stay in the morgue to conduct autopsies, while Kato Megumi and Xu Ming would stay in the office and shout loudly if the other group encountered any trouble.
Professor Miyano and Tomohito Suzuki entered the morgue.
Xu Ming and Kato Megumi started walking back.
As Xu Ming passed by classroom B, he glanced at the human figure as usual, only to find that the place was empty and the human figure had long since disappeared!
This was no small matter.
Xu Ming immediately picked up his phone and rushed into classroom B.
This time, he didn't care about conserving his eyesight and immediately activated his 'night vision' ability.
The dark classroom immediately became bright.
Everything inside the classroom was clearly visible.
Everything else remained unchanged, except for that old human mannequin, which had completely disappeared!
Xu Ming arrived at the spot where the human model had been placed and found some fingernail-sized fragments scattered on the ground.
Upon picking them up, Xu Ming discovered they were actually plastic shells, and more importantly, the color of these shells looked very familiar to him.
This is the outer shell of that mannequin!
The following image appeared in Xu Ming's mind:
A worn-out mannequin stood silently in the darkness. Suddenly, with a soft sound, a long crack appeared in the mannequin's shell.
The cracks quickly spread across the entire mannequin, and then a bloody monster crawled out from the shattered shell.
It lurked in the corner, its bulging eyes casting a sinister glance at the people under the light, before swiftly disappearing into the darkness...
The thought of such a monster secretly watching them made Xu Ming's palms sweat.
Kato Megumi also came to Xu Ming's side.
When she saw the shards on the ground, her eyebrows twitched slightly.
She didn't speak, but extended her crystal-clear, jade-like hand from her long sleeves, and then quickly made a mysterious hand seal.
Golden threads appeared out of thin air, outlining a complex and exquisite magic circle in mid-air. A large number of golden powder-like light spots were sprinkled from the magic circle and landed on the pile of shell fragments.
The fragments soon underwent a strange change, and the golden light spots were gradually tinged with light gray.
Seeing this, Kato Megumi frowned and pursed her lips.
Xu Ming glanced at her, puzzled.
"Is there... something wrong with this thing?"
Kato Megumi nodded slightly.
"Yes, and it's a big problem. One ghoul is already troublesome enough, but I didn't expect a 'monster' to be born here as well."
"'Strange'?"
Xu Ming was startled, and couldn't help but think of the four categories of 'strange' as divided by the system—demon, monster, ghost, and monster.
Kato Megumi's answer quickly confirmed his guess.
“‘Strange’ is the most unique kind of ‘weird’.”
Xu Ming subconsciously tightened his grip on the spirit-capturing phone in his palm, his eyes subtly scanning the entire classroom.
"What special methods do they use? Are they very strong?"
Kato Megumi's expression was strange, as if she was struggling with something and found it difficult to speak.
"It's not a matter of whether it's strong or not; its abilities are truly bizarre and strange."
Their birth is almost random, their types of abilities are random, and the strength of their abilities is random.
Some 'monsters' may only be able to release small flames, while others can unleash intensely hot flames capable of instantly melting steel.
Kato Megumi paused for a moment before continuing.
"The abilities of these 'strange' beings are also incredibly diverse; some can only spray water, while others can manipulate time."
The only thing we know for sure is that the birth of a 'monster' requires the absorption of a large amount of negative energy.
Upon hearing the last sentence, a flash of inspiration struck Xu Ming.
"Could it be because of the ghouls...?"
Kato Megumi nodded, pointing to the fragments of the shell on the ground.
“Under normal circumstances, it would take hundreds of years for a ‘monster’ to be born from this place. However, someone used evil magic to create a ghoul, which caused a large amount of negative energy to accumulate here, accelerating the transformation of the ‘monster’.”
Corpses, plus 'monsters' of unknown abilities...
"We're in trouble."
Kato Megumi said with a serious expression.
Back in the office, neither of them spoke.
Xu Ming picked up his phone, habitually turned it on, glanced at it, but couldn't concentrate on anything, so he put it down.
Time flowed slowly in silence, gradually approaching midnight.
"Ah!! Help!"
Suddenly, cries for help came from the end of the corridor.
Chapter Sixty-Four: Horror in the Morgue
Xu Ming's expression changed drastically in an instant.
"Xu Mingjun!"
Kato Megumi's urgent voice rang out.
"I'll lead the charge, you cover the rear! Be careful!"
After leaving those words, Xu Ming rushed out of the office.
It wasn't that he was a chauvinist; based on his observation, Kato Megumi needed a little time to cast each spell, just like a mage casting a spell in a game.
In such situations, magic-based professions are often the most vulnerable.
Xu Ming, on the other hand, was the opposite; the attack speed of the spirit-capturing phone depended solely on his hand speed.
So he rushed to the front without hesitation.
Kato Megumi was slightly taken aback. She was always the one giving orders and commanding others; this was the first time she had ever been commanded by someone else.
