"Hmm? You're awake." Sitting on the left was Bai Aina, with gray hair. She greeted the two-faced man who had woken up. Then she stood up and bowed apologetically. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make such a commotion. I just startled you when I came in through the ventilation duct, which attracted them all."

"Anyway, let's not talk about that anymore, just get over here quickly." Bai Aina called out to Yi Tiao, then pulled a syringe from her pocket and stabbed it directly into the two-faced man's neck. Although the man cursed and tried to dodge, it was all in vain.

Under the influence of the anesthetic, Two-Face fell asleep again, feeling utterly suffocated. When that incredibly real tingling sensation returned, he couldn't help but want to open his eyes.

But at this moment, his eyes were covered by a silk scarf. However, the two-faced man was very unusual in that he did not go crazy. Instead, he calmly questioned, "What do you two want? If you want money, then go and take it yourselves. Anyway, you have killed all my men, right?"

"No, although I don't hate killing. But killing so many at once would make me feel disgusted." Bai Aina answered the Two-Face's question quite seriously. After all, it was about a hundred lives; killing them all at once would indeed make her feel very physically uncomfortable.

"So I just 'persuaded' them to turn themselves in. Although there were a few hiccups, it was still successful." Of course, no one was willing to turn themselves in, and Bai Aina had no intention of making an example of them, so she simply listened to them. Therefore, she cut off about a hundred strands of her long hair to form granulation tissue, which she then implanted directly into their heads, forcing all these gang members to turn themselves in and obediently serve their sentences.

Theoretically, as long as the implanted granulations aren't removed, these gang members would probably all become pushovers who would help elderly people who have fallen on the street. If they are successfully released from prison, perhaps they will experience a different kind of life.

Although this approach is good, as it avoids killing people and allows them to contribute to society, Bai Aina still feels somewhat melancholy.

This melancholy didn't stem from the trivial matter of the granulation tissue potentially being forcibly removed if discovered; rather, it was from Baina's inner turmoil regarding her next course of action. While it might be somewhat disgusting, it also brought a sense of fulfillment.

Helping others is good in this way, but the sense of fulfillment is irreplaceable. However, Bai Aina decided to put this matter aside for now and deal with the immediate issues first.

"Ha, you sent them to turn themselves in? Forgive my bluntness, but it's completely pointless." Two-Face couldn't help but laugh. Gangs like theirs all had their own lawyers. "It's pointless. They'll hire lawyers. Besides, in a case like this involving hundreds of people, you can't beat Gotham's lawyers without a top-notch prosecutor."

“I know, that’s why I want to ask for your help.” Taking out a white mask from her storage card, Bai Aina chuckled. “Besides, isn’t there an excellent prosecutor right in front of me? He once fought for a meager, almost non-existent, justice and fairness in a sinister place like Gotham City.”

This new mask was not the one originally worn by Bai Nai Nai; rather, it was taken from Black Mask's head by Deathstroke, and its material was carved from the sandalwood coffins of his parents. Furthermore, the mask endowed Black Mask with powerful mental energy capable of controlling the minds of others, which is why Jason and Deathstroke chose to assassinate him.

Of course, Bai Aina couldn't just put on such a mask directly. She first soaked it in disinfectant for an hour before taking it out, and then modified it using the Perfect Creature's ability to activate the wood itself and change the overall size of the mask to better fit her face... after all, the black mask made her face quite big.

When Baina put on the mask, a chilling, icy coldness traveled through it to her brain, seemingly dulling even her blood and thoughts. She didn't resist it; the unpredictable chill penetrated deep into her brain, making her already somewhat cold mind more sensitive.

Wearing this mask makes me feel like I'm losing my sanity... No wonder Black Mask is so crazy, but thinking of digging up his own parents' graves is pretty insane too. After putting on the mask, Bai Aina waited for Two-Faced Man to speak.

"Are you crazy? I don't remember seeing you at Arkham Asylum." Two-Face sneered, instinctively trying to take out his coin and pistol, but he was too restrained to do so. After a moment of thought, he said, "Can you give me my coin? I'm tied up like this anyway."

“It’s unnecessary, because it will be over soon.” The reason for not using the flesh bud on Two-Face was that Baina knew that ordinary gangsters might not be examined so thoroughly. But for a supervillain like Two-Face, the presence of the flesh bud would likely be detected by both Arkham Asylum and Batman.

Since that's the case, we have to find other methods. The black mask is a good choice, and it might even help me unlock a talent tree... The mask on my face seemed to come alive, fitting tightly to my face, and Bai Aina could even feel a rhythm that felt like life.

Like an invisible network, something seemed to be guiding Bai Aina's spirit, channeling a power that had never been used before, and turning it into threads that wrapped around the two-faced man.

"Wait! What are you going to do to me!" He immediately sensed something was wrong, but before the two-faced man could resist, the threads had already invaded his mind.

"Don't be so nervous, it'll be over soon." Narrowing her eyes slightly, Bai Aina quickly understood the principle behind releasing mental energy. Essentially, this mask's effect was similar to the Stone Mask, except one developed the physical body, while the other assisted the user's mind. "Ughhhhhhh!" Ignoring the two-faced man's screams, Bai Aina increased her mental energy output. What were originally just threads of mental energy now transformed into several enormous tentacles, vigorously stirring the two-faced man's consciousness.

Wait! Although I'm trying to turn him into a good person... I have absolutely no experience with this! How exactly do I do it? Suddenly realizing this, Bai Aina broke out in a cold sweat and involuntarily stopped what she was doing.

The two-faced man, who was tied to the stool, was now covered in sweat, his face was ashen, and all that remained in his eyes as he looked at Bai Aina was fear.

There's no other way. We can only try slowly, and while we're at it, try to erase these painful memories from your mind. Without much hesitation, Bai Aina adjusted her mask.

And so, from the warehouse located in a remote area, came bursts of hysterical screams that lasted for almost half the night before finally stopping.

Chapter Fifty New Signs

This was a truly memorable day for Gotham City. The entire gang of Two-Face, along with Two-Face himself, surrendered to the police, causing a huge uproar and leaving everyone speechless.

Faced with this completely unprecedented situation, the Gotham Police Department was caught off guard and didn't even know how to handle it for a while. As if knowing their predicament, the two-faced man, Harvey Dent, who had returned to normal, even thoughtfully and sincerely submitted all the criminal information, as well as the sentencing plans for the charges and the individuals involved.

As the director, Gordon quickly calmed down. He knew very well that something was amiss, so he temporarily ordered the detention of these ordinary people and arranged for medical personnel to conduct comprehensive mental and physical examinations on these gang members and Harvey Dent.

These are truly turbulent times, absolutely terrible... As a long-time resident of Gotham City, Gordon knows all too well that Two-Face's departure doesn't necessarily mean something good. The vacant territory is like a juicy steak, attracting small, ravenous gangs, which will likely cause considerable unrest.

Not only that, Gordon even received information from a secret informant that Black Mask had been assassinated. His gang was also attacked by the One Color Gang, and without its leader, the gang was quickly destroyed, and most of its resources were quickly swallowed up.

However, there are still some areas that have not yet been incorporated, plus the areas vacated when Two-Face stepped down... In order to fight for these vacant territories, a large number of small gangs will engage in extreme conflicts, and gunfights will break out in the streets and alleys.

The city's underworld landscape will undergo a complete transformation, and the city's distorted ecosystem will adapt to this change by promoting gang consolidation, allowing new gangs to replace the old ones.

That's absolutely terrible. Gordon, staring at the map, made these analyses, his brow furrowing. Someone else understood this better than he did.

"Wow, is this some kind of fishing? She deliberately left these territories and resources there, don't these guys realize that?" Dick, who had been freed from his wheelchair, was doing push-ups with one finger, a scene that looked like something out of a comic book. His well-proportioned and strong body was covered in a fine layer of sweat, making him look shiny under the light.

“Even if they knew, those hyenas wouldn’t give up this bloody piece of meat.” Unlike his adopted son, Batman, still in his wheelchair, shook his head and looked at the screen, saying, “Where’s Edward? Did you send him there?”

"Him? He should be on duty in the streets right now." Looking at the sweat dripping from his body, Dick was very satisfied with the results of his workout. He could even feel that his body still had untapped potential; this physical ability was not yet at its limit.

It must be said that the nanomechanical technology of the Reachers is quite advanced. After Bruce and Dick spent some time deciphering this technology, they finally managed to heal their injured spine.

Furthermore, due to the nanomechanics, Dick's physical abilities were greatly enhanced. While it didn't form armor or a protective layer, it allowed him to more effectively support his movements and balance his calorie expenditure.

Not only that, after data testing and calculation, Dick realized that even his blood supply capacity had been enhanced. Now, his heart was strong enough to continue beating and supporting blood supply even after being shot by a bullet.

"But Bruce, why aren't you using nanotech serums yet?" Dick couldn't understand his thinking, feeling puzzled by this.

“I have rehabilitation experience, I don’t need it.” Shaking his head, Bruce glanced at the monitor screen, his eyes suddenly narrowing. In the surveillance camera at Gotham City’s train station, he spotted a familiar female figure.

It's Talia... Why is she here? Bruce was somewhat surprised and didn't quite understand why she would take the train. However, he quickly regained his composure, pushed his wheelchair forward, and said to Dick, who had finished exercising, "Dick, I have to go out for a while. If anything happens, I'll leave it to you."

“Alright then.” Nodding, Dick took Bruce’s place at the computer desk, while Alfred thoughtfully handed him a hot drink and placed it on the table.

"Thank you." Dick raised his glass slightly in acknowledgment, taking a sip of his tea while operating the monitor. As he turned the surveillance camera to the city sky, he noticed that the Gotham Police Department's Bat-signal was on sometime during the night.

"Hmm, how about this?" Dick hesitated for a moment, suppressing his urge to don his battle suit and return to Gotham City. Right now, it was indeed necessary to hone the new talent.

As Dick took out his phone and dialed Edward's communicator, he considered when to talk to his girlfriends about his recovery.

On 42nd Street, a fierce street battle is unfolding. Two small gangs are clashing over territorial disputes, and a dozen or so gang members armed with guns are exchanging fire. A blonde girl who couldn't escape in time is cowering in a corner, trembling with fear of being hit by stray bullets.

Just then, a figure suddenly leaped into the arena. Before the gangsters fighting could react, the figure leaped through the hail of bullets, scooped up the blonde girl hiding in the corner, and placed her in a safe spot.

Without waiting for the other party to thank him, the figure turned around and rushed back into the battle area.

"Damn it, can't you guys have any self-awareness? Why do you always have to cause trouble for others!" Edward dodged the pistol bullets with a sidestep and, as he retreated, took out bullets specially designed for him by Wayne Enterprises and inserted them into the grooves of the mechanical arm.

"Just pass out!" With Edward's roar, a specially made bullet was fired, a dazzling white light exploded, and the powerful stun grenade paralyzed the vision of everyone present. The huge sound caused people to experience tinnitus and faint instantly.

Seeing the gang members lying on the ground, Edward took out a rope from his all-purpose belt and tied them up. He then dialed the number to notify the Gotham Police Department to come and clean up the mess before preparing to leave.

“Done.” Just as Edward was about to use his mechanical arm to launch the grappling hook to move, the blonde girl he had saved earlier exclaimed and hugged him tightly, refusing to let go of the superhero in front of her.

"Great! I'm Roja from 42nd Street..." Startled by the blonde girl's enthusiastic attitude, Edward quickly broke free from her embrace, used his grappling hook to smash a corner of the roof, and swiftly pulled himself up. "Wait! Don't go!"

Edward, who had escaped to the rooftop, took a deep breath and calmed his erratic breathing before noticing a business card stuffed into his pocket.

"That's enough..." Edward, who was about to crumple up the business card and throw it away with a wry smile, suddenly heard the communicator on his goggles ring.

Chapter 51 Dispute (Part 1)

Batman was seriously injured; everyone in Gotham City knew this. Gordon had more than one reason for turning on the Bat-Signal; one of them was to try and deter the gangsters and criminals causing trouble throughout Gotham City.

Before Gordon could see the Batman he was looking for, a figure staggered onto the rooftop and quickly straightened up.

The visitor was Edward, who had received a message from Nightwing and had come to meet him and Gordon to discuss the current situation in Gotham City.

Edward arrived at Gotham Police Department before Nightwing did. He tensed up when he saw Gordon.

Although he has now been recruited by Batman, donned a Kevlar bodysuit, and acquired a number of high-tech gadgets, Edward's only remaining means of concealing his identity is a high-tech tactical goggle. While it can be used to track moving targets and provide aiming and auto-lock for the robotic arm's ranged attacks, it's not a very effective way to disguise himself…

The tactical goggles weren't particularly large, offering absolutely no concealment when worn on the face. Edward had previously been a member of the police force and had trained and worked under Gordon; the two had met before.

Oh no, I'm wearing this thing right now, will I really not be recognized? Edward couldn't help but feel a little nervous, but he still took the initiative to walk forward.

He was... Although the blond young man with a ponytail in front of him looked somewhat familiar, Gordon did not recognize him. He had only heard about him in the recent news and he seemed to be a street hero who had just emerged.

"Hmm... hello, you can call me Steel Wrist." Edward breathed a sigh of relief after giving the hero name he had already thought of. In any case, it was really good that Gordon hadn't recognized his true identity.

Although Nightwing had told him that no matter what he looked like before, as long as he wore an eye patch or something, no one would recognize him, Edward was still hesitant. But to his surprise, he really wasn't recognized.

“Steel Arm?” Glancing at Edward’s conspicuously large mechanical arm, Gordon thought the name was indeed quite apt. He then asked, “So, what about Batman? Are you here in his place?”

"Hmm, Batman hasn't recovered yet." Adjusting his tactical goggles, Edward recalled the news he'd heard that morning about Two-Face and his gang turning themselves in. He was eager to know the details. "But please rest assured, Commissioner Gordon, he'll be fully recovered and able to operate normally in a few days."

"Of course, he is unable to move around right now, which is why I came here. Nightwing will also be here in a little while."

"Is that so?" Gordon's heart was temporarily relieved. He had been wondering whether he should send out the Rabbit Police to maintain order.

“Of course, Commissioner Gordon, I have a few things I'd like to ask you about.” After carefully considering his words, Edward asked very politely. “Regarding the Two-Face gang's voluntary surrender, are there any suspicious points? If you don't mind, could we go to Arkham Asylum to retrieve the video recordings of the doctors' interrogations of them?”

“Recording it? No problem, but we’ve already reached a conclusion about them.” Gordon hesitated, seemingly wondering if he should tell the street hero in front of him what had happened.

"There's already a conclusion? That's great." Edward hadn't expected the Gotham Police Department to have uncovered such a detailed investigation. He had assumed he'd be handling everything himself, but things had turned out differently...

“Yes, that’s right… You’ll understand better if you look at this.” Gordon took out a file folder and handed it to Edward, explaining, “We immediately conducted a physical examination on him after Two-Face and his gang surrendered.”

Edward took out the first file from the folder, which was about Harvey Dent's facial restoration. The necrotic muscle tissue in his face had been completely removed and replaced with new facial muscles. After extracting cells for examination, it was found that these facial muscles had only recently grown.

For Baina, this was not difficult. She removed a portion of her own body tissue and covered Harvey Dent's face. Through a powerful assimilation process, the perfect cells became identical to ordinary human cells, covering the facial muscles of Two-Face that had been completely necrotic due to sulfuric acid.

However, lacking experience in this area, it took Baina a considerable amount of time and experimentation before she successfully achieved facial symmetry for Harvey Dent. This involved removing a significant amount of excess facial muscle. The scene at the time…

In order to avoid being disgusted, Baina had to make the corrections in several sessions. Although she lost a lot of flesh and blood as a result, at least she didn't vomit.

“What’s most surprising is Two-Face’s mental state. According to Dr. Arkham’s report, he seems to have been hypnotized and has reverted to his mindset from when he was a prosecutor…” Gordon shook his head and then continued, “I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not, but he’s been very cooperative with all our work.”

“Of course it’s a good thing, isn’t it, Chief Gordon?” Edward’s thoughts were much simpler than Gordon’s, as he took out the second document and examined it carefully before continuing, “Once Mr. Dent has finished serving his sentence, that prosecutor will be back! That Harvey Dent!”

As he spoke, Edward became more and more agitated. Although he felt that someone was definitely manipulating things behind the scenes, it didn't stop him from thinking that Harvey Dent's return was a good thing.

Although he frowned, Gordon didn't comment on it, but continued, "Finally, there are the gang members under Two-Face. After a thorough physical examination, we discovered that a strange bio-tissue had been implanted in their brains. This bio-tissue won't harm their lives, but it will affect their minds..."

"Could it turn someone into a brutal and inhumane murderer?" Edward couldn't help but feel nervous as he subconsciously thought about this possibility.

“No…no, according to current research, these implanted biological tissues only affect their subconscious behavior, forcibly preventing them from having criminal desires and thoughts, and making them atone for the mistakes they have made.” Gordon couldn’t help but feel a headache coming on when he thought about the flesh buds implanted in those gang members. “Moreover, those flesh buds are not easy to remove; they are completely connected to the human brain.”

"If we remove them, won't those gang members just go back to their old ways?" Edward concluded hastily after reading the third document and then carefully examining the remaining ones. "Chief Gordon, I think that's the case; there's really no need to remove them at all."

“You…” Gordon paused slightly, seemingly not expecting Edward to say such a thing. “We have no right to control or distort other people’s minds, do we?”

“No, Chief, but this situation isn’t entirely a bad thing, is it?” Edward put down the file folder in his hand and immediately argued with him. “Whether it’s serving time in prison or receiving treatment from a psychologist, the goal is to help these flawed people become like normal people. Now they can also turn to good, so what’s wrong with that for us and for all the citizens of Gotham City?”

Chapter Fifty-Two: The Dispute (Part Two)

Upon hearing Edward's statement, Gordon shook his head and sighed, "Your idea does have some merit, but... you're still too naive."

Although he didn't answer, Edward still frowned unhappily, and anyone could see the displeasure written on his face.

“Then I have a question for you. What if someone uses this technology for evil?” Gordon pointed to the information about granulation tissue and, recalling what he had heard before, asked, “Have you heard about HeLa cells?”

"Uh...no." Although he had attended police academy and university, he had chosen different majors and was unaware of these obscure facts.

“The HeLa cell line originated from the cervical cancer cells of Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman. A surgeon took a tissue sample from her tumor and cultured it in the lab; it is still being cultured continuously.” Gordon stared intently at Edward, as if trying to read something from his face. “Like HeLa cells, this biological tissue cell line does not age and die, and can divide indefinitely. It is also highly infectious and invasive. This means that this biological tissue… has the potential for large-scale application.”

“Imagine it, Edward. What would it be like if this kind of bio-organism, capable of interfering with and distorting humanity, could be cloned on a massive scale and controlled by all nations? Imagine what it would be like if those conglomerates obtained this technology and used it in secret?” Gordon felt a headache coming on at the thought; this was beyond his control. He hoped to leverage Batman's connections to seek help from the Justice League.
