A Young Woman's Heart

This home-style restaurant is busiest in the evening because it offers affordable and delicious food and has a great reputation in the neighborhood. Many people come here every day, especially in the evening when most people have finished get off work.
Although it's only around 5 p.m., the kitchen is already bustling with activity.
The younger sister bent down to pet the orange cat lying by the back door, when she heard her older sister's voice coming from behind the door: "Sister, stop teasing the cat, hurry up and get busy."
"Okay—" the younger sister said reluctantly as she went inside.
Before leaving the house, the two of them had already changed into old clothes that they weren't afraid of getting dirty, and now they were wearing simple work jackets.
"You're here?" The proprietress greeted them, and without time for pleasantries, immediately began assigning tasks. "The kitchen is still managing, but there are quite a few customers in the front. You two should hurry up and go to the front to serve them."
"Okay." The older sister nodded, took her younger sister's hand, and walked out.
This restaurant has become increasingly popular recently, and there's another reason for that: at night you can see a pair of beautiful twin sisters. Even if you don't have any ulterior motives, just looking at them is a feast for the eyes.
Moreover, good-looking people cannot hide their innate beauty even when wearing simple clothes.
As the saying goes, beauty is food for the eyes; looking at the beautiful and innocent twins makes even food taste better.
Regular customers know that the two sisters work part-time here after school every day. They have to attend classes at school during the day, so they only come in the evening.
As soon as they entered the restaurant, a customer walked in. The younger sister quickly went to greet him, while the older sister hurriedly combed her hair. Just as she tied her hair up, another customer walked in.
He was a middle-aged man who looked overweight. His limbs weren't particularly fat, but his belly was sticking out. Judging from the way he walked, he had the air of a junior leader.
"Hello, how many are in your party?" Mo Xiaoxiao quickly went up to greet her, smiling with her two dimples.
"Hmm—" The middle-aged man touched his chin, which was probably more than double, and pondered for a moment before answering, "Six."
Would you like a private room?
"of course."
"Okay." Mo Xiaoxiao was about to lead him into the small private room when she saw a familiar girl walk in. "Oh—Xiaoyao?"
She looked at Mo Xueyao with some surprise, and Mo Xueyao looked at her with great astonishment as well.
"What, you two know each other?" the overweight middle-aged man asked.
“Uh…this is my classmate from school,” Mo Xueyao said, then introduced Mo Xiaoxiao, “this is my godfather.”
"Oh, we're classmates. You're not even an adult yet and you're already working. Is it part-time to support yourself while studying?" Yu Liang asked with a smile.
"Hmm... to help with household expenses." Mo Xiaoxiao nodded slightly awkwardly, carefully observing Mo Xueyao's expression.
Mo Xueyao seemed only surprised, and did not show any disdain or contempt, which relieved her.
"Then, I'll take you to the private room." Mo Xiaoxiao didn't forget her job and steered the conversation back.
"Hmm." Yu Liang nodded, looked Mo Xiaoxiao up and down, and said, "It's good to ease the burden on the family, but you're a student now, so it's better to focus on your studies."
"Well... anyway, I won't fall behind in my studies." Mo Xiaoxiao smiled somewhat reluctantly, which made Yu Liang instantly realize something.
"Oh—indeed, sometimes life is quite helpless."
Mo Xiaoxiao understood what he meant, but Mo Xueyao didn't understand at all.
In her view, the two seemed to be on completely different wavelengths.
As they were talking, Mo Xiaoxiao pushed open the door to the private room and opened the window inside to let in some fresh air.
"This is it. Just tell me what you'd like to order—oh, there's a menu on the table too."
Seeing her classmate become a waitress, Mo Xueyao felt a little strange.
It was as if the two of them had unconsciously become two separate classes, one above the other.
If there were no elders around, this feeling might not be so strong, but when elders are around, this feeling becomes even stronger.
Mo Xiaoxiao was the same.
It was as if the two of them had lost their way of communicating after adopting different identities.
"Okay, what would you like to eat, Xiaoyao?" Yu Liang sat down casually. "How about grilled sea bass?"
"Anything is fine. I don't really have any particular cravings or dislikes." Mo Xueyao was practically saying "whatever" outright.
"Grilled sea bass, is that right?" Mo Xiaoxiao quickly adjusted her demeanor, smiling gracefully as she wrote it down in her notebook.
"Then let's make some Japanese tofu. Haruka, don't you really want any other dishes?"
"No." Mo Xueyao looked at Mo Xiaoxiao, deciding to find some topics to talk about while her godfather looked at the menu to avoid too much awkwardness, so she addressed her in an affectionate way for the first time, "Xiaoxiao, is working here tiring?"
"Work is always tiring." Mo Xiaoxiao's smile deepened when she heard Mo Xueyao's suddenly affectionate way of addressing her. "I have to work very late every day."
"What about the homework?"
"You can finish it at school."
"No wonder you're always in such a rush to do your homework, um..."
"By the way, don't tell anyone about this."
"Ah... okay." Mo Xueyao had an "I understand" expression on her face.
Although she didn't think there was anything to despise about it, there would always be people who would despise it, and there would always be people who would discriminate against the two sisters because they thought they were poor.
"Well, it's not what you think," Mo Xiao smiled and tossed her hair. "It's mainly because the school doesn't allow students to work."
"Oh... I see." Mo Xueyao smiled somewhat awkwardly. "Actually... there's nothing to be embarrassed about. It's just about earning a living."
"I'm so glad that Haruka thinks that way."
"Huh?"
"You two really get along well," Yu Liang laughed heartily. "Would you like your classmate to join us for dinner?"
"No need for that~ We still have to work." Mo Xiao smiled and bowed slightly. "Thank you."
Then, Yu Liang quickly ordered seven or eight dishes, which was more than enough for six people.
After all, restaurants in this era generally served relatively large portions.
When Mo Xiaoxiao handed the menu to the kitchen and returned to the front, she saw Mo Zhuyou busy as a bee.
More customers came in and ordered food, some paid their bills, and others wanted to take away leftovers...
The phone at the counter was still ringing; I wondered who was calling.
"Sis, you're finally here! Quick, answer the phone for me!" the younger sister shouted hurriedly.
"Okay, coming~" The older sister quickly answered the phone, "Hello, how can I help you? Oh—do you want to order takeout? Where do you live? Yes, it can be delivered there. How long? It should take about half an hour. Yes, yes, okay, please tell me."
Ordering takeout by phone is a common thing these days, and it's usually delivered by the store's employees.
There was no specific person designated to deliver it; it was mainly up to whoever was available to go.
Sometimes it's two sisters, sometimes it's the guy chopping vegetables in the back...
"Sis, where did you go? I was so busy!" The younger sister finally finished what she was doing, breathed a sigh of relief, and complained softly.
"Xiaoyao came by just now, didn't you know?"
"Huh—? When? I didn't see it..." The younger sister pinched her earlobe, suddenly looking worried. "Wait, won't Haruka tell the school?"
"Xiaoyao is definitely not that kind of person."
"That's good... um... but they'll probably think our family is very poor."
"We were already very poor."
"That's different, isn't it..." the younger sister muttered.
"It's okay, Xiaoyao doesn't care about this kind of thing. It's you who are being too sensitive."
"Tch... It's not like those kinds of things didn't happen in junior high."
"Hmm, but the person who would do that kind of thing definitely wouldn't be Haruka~"
"Okay, okay... By the way, should I go deliver takeout later?"
"Okay, you go ahead, I'll take care of things at the shop."
"Phew, it's actually easier to deliver food when things are so busy," the younger sister said, handing the order slips to the kitchen.
"But you can't just dawdle outside like that, unless you want to work me to death!"
"Of course I wouldn't work my sister to death, otherwise I'd be too lonely by myself, wouldn't I?"
"Waiter! Two bottles of beer!" a customer shouted, interrupting the two men's conversation.
"Coming!" the older sister replied. "Would you like it iced? West Lake or Snowflake? Or Thousand Island Lake?"
"Not icy, I want the one from Qiandao Lake."
"Okay, coming right away~"
"Waiter, a bowl of rice, please! A large bowl!"
"Coming, coming..." My younger sister also started getting busy.

Chapter Sixty-Nine: Brother or Sister?
Before long, everyone else arrived.
The ordered dishes began to be placed on the table one after another.
The two families did not sit on opposite sides of the table, but instead sat together haphazardly.
For example, Mo Xueyao was with her godfather and his daughter; her mother and godmother were sitting together; and her father and godfather were drinking beer and chatting about recent events.
In this era, although drunk driving is not allowed, there are no detailed laws and regulations to restrict and manage it.
Drunk driving checks are not very strict, and in many places, they are not even checked at all.
Even if it is found, there is no accurate standard for judgment. Most of the time, as long as it does not affect driving, they will let you go.
Even if it affects driving, the only thing they do is make the person sit aside to sober up and issue a fine.
You can even avoid having points deducted by paying more money.
