Chonglou drank all his wine in one gulp, then carried the wine gourd far down the mountain.
"Those little ones are ignorant, thank you for your mercy, Brother Lin."
Only then did Lin Yaoxie understand what Chonglou was thanking him for.
Lin Yaoxie suddenly had a bad feeling. According to the system's rules, if he didn't complete the system's task, he should be punished. But it seems that's not the case now. Not only was he not punished, but he also received Chonglou's thanks. And this thanks should be genuine.
Although Lin Yaoxie wasn't entirely sure what awaited him, he hadn't forgotten the purpose of his trip:
"Did you kidnap Zixuan?"
"If you beat me on the fifteenth of next month, I'll tell you where Zixuan is."
"I want you to say it now..." Lin Yaoxie drew the Yilong Sword, wanting to fight Chonglou.
Chonglou remained calm, even as Lin Yaoxie's Yilong Sword was pointed directly at his chest:
"We agreed to a duel on the fifteenth of next month, and I don't want to fight you before then."
Lin Yaoxie Sword was eventually sheathed because he realized that if he had really stabbed him, it would have been a lose-lose situation. He remembered what Chonglou had said before: the wine was called "living and dying together," which was probably more than just a name.
"You two are really in high spirits, coming to my Shu Mountain as guests without even informing me, the host."
Chonglou and Lin Yaoxie never expected that there would be another person on the usually remote Shushan Ancient Road.
The person who came was none other than Xu Changqing, the first person Lin Yaoxie encountered in the world of Legend of Sword and Fairy.
Xu Changqing produced a straw from somewhere and put it in his mouth, looking nonchalant, which made Lin Yaoxie wonder if this guy was really the Xu Changqing he knew before.
Xu Changqing rushed in front of Lin Yaoxie:
"What's wrong, Brother Lin? Don't you recognize me?"
Lin Yaoxie found it hard to accept Xu Changqing's changes:
"Changqing...you..."
Xu Changqing shrugged:
"My masters like my obedient appearance, but they still prefer me as I am now."
Xu Changqing was dressed in white, carrying a long sword on his back, exuding an indescribable air of elegance and grace.
Lin Yaoxie sighed inwardly:
"If it weren't for my appearance, no wonder Zixuan would fall in love with Changqing for three lifetimes."
"Brother Changqing, are you passing by or have you come here specifically to visit me?"
Lin Yaoxie didn't believe that Xu Changqing had come to talk to them.
"If I said I just happened to be passing by, would the Demon Lord or the Thunderbolt Hall Master believe me?"
As expected of Shushan, they learned about Lin Yaoxie's appointment as the leader of the Thunderbolt Hall in just one day.
"The Heavenly Mirror of Mount Shu can see all the scenery within a ten-mile radius of Mount Shu. Uncle Youxuan said that a distinguished guest has arrived and specially asked me to come and invite the two of you to Mount Shu for a gathering." Xu Changqing spoke quite frankly and did not hide anything from Lin Yaoxie and Chonglou.
Fearing that Chonglou and Lin Yaoxie might misunderstand, Xu Changqing continued to explain:
"Please don't worry, Elder Youxuan just wants to discuss the Moon-Viewing Terrace with you on the fifteenth of next month."
Lin Yaoxie hummed softly:
"The information network of Mount Shu is truly impressive. I think your sect would have a brighter future if you switched to selling information rather than exorcising demons."
Xu Changqing opened his eyes wide, feigning sudden realization:
"Brother Lin's reminder is reasonable. I will suggest that Master try doing this another day. However, recently even the most lowly demons know that Lin Yaoxie, the leader of the Thunderbolt Hall, will challenge the Demon Lord Chonglou at the Moon Gazing Terrace of Mount Shu on the fifteenth of next month in order to become famous."
After hearing Changqing's explanation, Lin Yaoxie suddenly understood. He cursed Lei Xiaotian and Luo Rulie in his heart. These two were really willing to do anything to save their lives, even using him as a shield to make a name for the Thunderbolt Hall.
Since they had come to him, Lin Yaoxie had no choice but to go to Mount Shu with Changqing for a visit.
Although they were going to Mount Shu, Chonglou seemed to have no qualms whatsoever. Lin Yaoxie, Xu Changqing, and Chonglou finally met the legendary elders of Mount Shu again in the Wuji Pavilion. Unfortunately, this time…
There were only two people, the chubby Heyang and the lean Canggu.
He Yang greeted Lin Yaoxie and the others with a friendly expression, seemingly showing no resistance to Chonglou being the Demon Lord.
Cang Gu, on the other hand, had a serious expression, showing no emotional fluctuation whatsoever.
After some pleasantries, Cang Gu got straight to the point:
"You can borrow my Moon-Viewing Terrace on Mount Shu, but..."
Elder Cang Gu began to negotiate terms with Lin Yaoxie and the others. Upon hearing that Cang Gu was about to propose conditions:
"He chose the location. If there's anything, go to him. I'm only in charge of the fight."
Chonglou seemed to dislike trouble by nature, and with a single sentence, he pushed all the responsibility onto Lin Yaoxie. At this point, Lin Yaoxie was in a dilemma. He had originally planned that even if he couldn't use the Moon Gazing Platform of Mount Shu, he could just find another place to fight Chonglou. If he defeated him, he should be able to ask him for advice on how to become a demon.
5.3 But because of those guys from the Thunderbolt Hall, we're now forced to have the martial arts competition at the Moon Gazing Platform. It's a system mission to help the Thunderbolt Hall, and if we violate too many system missions, who knows...
What dangers exist in the world of Chinese Paladin?
With things having come to this, Lin Yaoxie had no choice but to bite the bullet and admit, "I didn't know Elder Canggu needed money."
According to the principles of the original world, Lin Yaoxie knew that if a problem could be solved with money, it wasn't a problem at all.
Unfortunately, Lin Yaoxie's plan wasn't very clever, as evidenced by He Yang's words:
"Wealth is an external thing, and we cultivators have no need for it."
Of course, according to Changqing's revelation, the Demon-Locking Tower of Mount Shu was built by Emperor Wu of Liang. Although the times have changed, since Mount Shu did not get involved in royal disputes and aimed to eliminate demons and save people, all the expenses of Mount Shu were paid by the royal families of successive dynasties.
Chapter Sixty: The Immortal's Wine [First Update]
Lin Yaoxie heard that Mount Shu was offering free services; was the reward for exorcising demons? Thinking of this, Lin Yaoxie volunteered:
"I, Lin, believe I possess some martial arts skills. May I ask what demons the elder requires me to exorcise?"
Hearing Lin Yaoxie's words, Xu Changqing felt he was losing face and retorted:
"My disciples from Mount Shu are all over the land. We naturally don't need to rely on others to exorcise demons. Brother Lin, please don't joke around."
Lin Yaoxie had no idea what these Shushan Taoist priests wanted him to do. Even if they wanted to deal with the great demon Chonglou, they would have to wait until the fifteenth of next month.
Elder Heyang chuckled:
"Young Master Lin, please calm down. The Moon Gazing Platform of Mount Shu has always been the place where the disciples of Mount Shu hold their martial arts competition during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Next month is the Mid-Autumn Festival. If someone forcibly occupies the Moon Gazing Platform, it will be difficult to win over the people."
Hearing Elder He Yang's words, Lin Yaoxie felt relieved. This was the start of a campaign to subdue the entire Shu Mountain! Lin Yaoxie rubbed his hands together, eager to fight.
"Then I'll figure out a way to convince them."
"Young Master Lin is exceptionally talented, but there are many disciples of Mount Shu. Even if you manage to subdue dozens of people every day, it will probably take until next Mid-Autumn Festival."
Lin Yaoxie hated this kind of overly bureaucratic speech the most, and said impatiently:
"How do you do 04? Draw a path."
Cang Gu was also quick-tempered, unlike He Yang who was more roundabout:
“No problem. As long as Young Hero Lin passes the test of the Fifth Elder of Shu Mountain, it will be considered that we have given an explanation to all the disciples of Shu Mountain.”
Only then did Lin Yaoxie realize that, in the end, all he wanted was for him to defeat these five so-called elders of Shu Mountain. He had previously fought with He Yang and Qingwei's clones. Although defeating them was not easy, losing would be even more difficult.
Lin Yaoxie drew his Yilong Sword, and with the longsword in hand, he shouted sharply:
"This junior is unworthy and humbly requests guidance from the esteemed elders of Mount Shu."
He Yang smiled and waved his hand, saying:
"Young Master Lin, you've misunderstood. We're not here to challenge you to a duel. We've prepared five questions for you. If you pass them successfully, we'd be happy to hand over the Moon-Viewing Terrace next Mid-Autumn Festival."
Lin Yaoxie wanted to ask the elders for more advice, but Changqing asked him and Chonglou to leave because it was getting late.
Upon leaving Wuji Pavilion, Chonglou left without uttering a single polite word. Lin Yaoxie, on the other hand, was concerned about Longkui and Xuejian in Anning Village. After bidding farewell to Changqing, he returned to Anning Village.
Inside the Wuji Pavilion, the scene at Mount Shu was quite different. The five elders were gathered in the Wuji Pavilion, their faces solemn, with Elder Qingwei's brows furrowed.
"If no one has any objections, we will begin preparations tomorrow."
"Is this really the case? Perhaps he can still turn back." Although Cang Gu's expression remained stern, he ultimately couldn't bear it.
Beside Cang Gu, Elder Jingming let out a long sigh:
Through the methods of the esoteric school, I saw the darkness deep within his heart; persuading him to turn back would be far too difficult.
The smile that had graced He Yang's face during the day was gone.
"The great calamity of Mount Shu is imminent. Judging from the divination, the future seems unchangeable. We can only do our best and leave the rest to fate."
"Do your best and leave the rest to fate? In the end, who controls destiny, heaven or man?" It was Elder Jingming who spoke last. Although he was the youngest among the five elders, his words were the most weathered.
Lin Yaoxie returned to Anning Village, completely unprepared for the elaborate schemes of Mount Shu that awaited him. Instead, he said he only had two things on his mind:
One thing was that the system told him to help the Thunderbolt Hall, but now he has become the leader of the Thunderbolt Hall by mistake. However, he has just become the leader of the Thunderbolt Hall, but the Thunderbolt Hall has caused him such a big trouble. He doesn't know whether to be happy or worried.
The second thing is that the system ordered him to kill all the lesser demons there today, but he didn't. Although he went against the system's wishes, he unexpectedly received Chonglou's gratitude. So, will this be a blessing or a curse for the future?
After a long day of travel, Lin Yaoxie returned to Anning Village when the moon was high in the sky. Xuejian was fast asleep in the inn. Since the innkeeper and staff were not there, Lin Yaoxie had to find a way to get something to eat.
Upon returning to the inn's entrance, the first thing that caught his eye was Long Kui, or more precisely, Hong Kui. Hong Kui directly asked Lin Yaoxie:
"Did you find the new Cantonese embroidery fairy dress in the ancient vine forest?"
Lin Yaoxie secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, he had used the system to get this set of items when he entered the village. Otherwise, after tonight, Longkui might have wanted more than just this dress.
Lin Yaoxie took out the new dress, but asked with some curiosity:
"Why did you come out? Did something dangerous happen?"
Hongkui seemed somewhat displeased after hearing Lin Yaoxie's words:
"Do I have to wait until it's dangerous before I can come out? She's asleep, so of course I can come out."
To be honest, Lin Yaoxie had been very puzzled from beginning to end, and asked Hongkui:
Aren't you two the same person?
"She is her, and I am me. Why do you care so much? Have you been drinking? Or are you a demon who shares life and death with you?"
Hongkui circled around Lin Yaoxie once.
"You've had this wine before?"
Lin Yaoxie knew that Hongkui seemed to know more about wine than Lankui.
