Chapter 48 The Senior Who Keeps Getting Dumped
Two hours later, with the help of Yin-Yang magic, part of the damaged Chiba Village had been repaired. After gaining a new set of memories, everyone returned to their rooms to rest as if nothing had happened.
It was already late at night, but Yukino Yukinoshita couldn't fall asleep at all.
Standing outside the cabin, she looked at Saeko Busujima, who was standing opposite her, ready to leave.
"Didn't I say before that my memories also needed to be altered?"
She had originally prepared herself to receive an artificial memory, just like everyone else, and then forget everything that had happened that night. But who would have thought that when she closed her eyes, after a moment of disorientation, she opened them again to find Yui and the others walking back as if sleepwalking, leaving her alone, wide awake.
Saeko Busujima looked at the junior schoolmate in front of her with a smile and replied, "Originally, I should have done as the teacher said. But I think it's more interesting not to do it that way."
"interesting?"
“Yes, that’s interesting.” Saeko Busujima nodded. She had asked Shizuka Hiratsuka whether to preserve Yukino Yukinoshita’s memories before, but in the end she felt it was better not to let the students know too much about them.
But in the end, Saeko Busujima changed her mind. She suddenly felt that if she did something, she could see some interesting developments in her junior apprentice.
Therefore, when modifying memories in batches, Yukinoshita and the others were deliberately placed last, and Ryougi Mina and Hiratsuka Shizuka, who were already tired after a day, were allowed to rest first.
Therefore, only Yukino Yukinoshita and Yomi Isayama know that Yukino has retained her memories. Of course, as her little follower, Yomi Isayama would never tell anyone.
"Won't doing this affect you?" Yukinoshita didn't know what Saeko Busujima meant by "interesting," but she felt that Saeko had some ill intentions.
"Well, as long as you don't tell anyone, it'll be fine, right? Remember, you can't tell anyone, otherwise it won't be good for either of us." With that, Saeko Busujima turned around, ready to leave. "Also, Chiba is still quite peaceful, so don't worry about what you might encounter in the future. If you do run into anything strange, don't be afraid. You can go to Yomi; I think you can get her phone number. See you next time, junior."
Yukino watched Saeko Busujima walk away, a mix of emotions swirling within her. Finally, she sighed with a complicated expression, turned, and went into the cabin.
------
In the moving car, Ryougi Mina had already fallen asleep with her head on Tokushima Saeko's lap.
Gently stroking the little girl's hair, Saeko Busujima looked at the moonlight outside the car window, a thoughtful look flashing in her eyes.
In the conversation just now, there were actually many things she didn't say. She had only learned about them by chance a few days ago, and only she and her teacher, Ryougi Shiki, knew about them. As for Yukino Yukinoshita, even she herself would probably not be told for some time. The two of them had discussed it and decided not to tell Yukiteru yet.
"It's interesting that one person pretends to know nothing even though they do, while the other thinks the other has really forgotten. I guess I'm just adding fuel to the fire by doing this. I'm doing this at the risk of being punished by the teacher, so I hope you can step up your game, otherwise we won't be able to catch anything, Yukiteru-kun."
It seemed that her talking to herself had disturbed the girl on her lap, causing her to move her head. Saeko Busujima smiled slightly, closed her eyes, and took a nap.
Seven days later.
In a cafe in Chiba, Kasumigaoka Utaha watched Sawamura Eriri, who was constantly drawing background CGs beside her, and Kato Megumi and Aki Tomoya, who were discussing the game footage they needed to shoot next. Her long legs in black stockings under her short skirt trembled incessantly, and she stood silently with her arms crossed over her chest.
After two minutes, Eriri slammed her paintbrush on the table and glared at Kasumigaoka Utaha: "Can you please stop shaking your leg?! I've already made three mistakes in a row!"
"Huh?" Kasumigaoka Utaha glanced at the easel in front of Eriri and said indifferently, "If you can't even withstand this little test, how can you become a qualified artist?"
"Even the best artists need a stable environment to unleash their full potential!" Eriri said with dissatisfaction, then continued drawing, muttering to herself, "So what if no one answers the phone? They're probably having a good time somewhere, who would remember you?"
"..."
Suddenly, Aki Tomoya across the street felt a gust of cold wind. He wondered if the air conditioning in the shop was too strong, but when he looked up, he saw Kasumigaoka-senpai across from Kato Megumi with a gloomy expression. He shivered again, silently calling out Yukiteru's name. Unfortunately, several days had passed, and the miracle still hadn't occurred.
Kasumigaoka Utaha was holding her phone. She had contacted Yukino Yukinoshita earlier, and Yukino had said that Yukiteru had left early on the last night of the club activities because of something. But logically, it was impossible for her not to be able to contact him. Now, everyone's phone was switched off, just like at the beginning of the holiday.
Finally, she made up her mind and decided to call Hiratsuka Shizuka.
A moment later, the call connected, and Hiratsuka Shizuka's slightly lazy voice came through the receiver.
"I am Hiratsuka Shizuka, who is this?"
“Hiratsuka-sensei, I am Kasumigaoka Utaha, a third-year student.”
Hiratsuka Shizuka, who was sitting on the living room floor watching the TV screen, paused for a moment, put down the popsicle she was biting, and said, "Oh, it's you. Is there something you need?"
"Here's the thing, I contacted Xuehui-kun before, and he agreed to help us with the game's production during the summer vacation. However, I can't reach him now. Do you know where he is, teacher?"
"A game?" After repeating it, Hiratsuka Shizuka remembered that Yukiteru was indeed making a game with that second-year boy named Aki Tomoya and a few girls, but he seemed to have only participated in the scriptwriting.
But you asked where? Hehe, I'd like to know that too.
Thinking of this, Hiratsuka Shizuka could only reply, "I know what you're talking about. But that kid is busy right now, and he's not in Chiba. I don't know exactly when he'll be back, probably another ten days to half a month. I remember that you have Sawamura from the art department in the game production, character design, and CG, and you, Kasumigaoka, are in charge of the script? Well, you'll have to work hard for now. I'll have him contact you when he gets back. That's all."
After saying that, he hung up the phone and continued playing his game lazily while sucking on his popsicle.
"Ugh, so boring..."
After the call ended, Kasumigaoka Utaha remained silent. Because the shop was relatively quiet, Sawamura Eriri, who was sitting next to her, heard the whole conversation. Although she was secretly pleased with Kasumigaoka Utaha's current situation, she was mostly dissatisfied: "What? Does this mean I have to draw all of these by myself? I just finished working on the doujinshi for the CM exhibition a few days ago. This workload is too much! Hey, what are you doing!"
Suddenly, Kasumigaoka Utaha stood up, squeezed past Eriri and walked out, saying, "You guys do the CG work first today, I'm not in the mood, I'm going back."
The three nodded in unison, knowing that Kasumigaoka Utaha was in a bad mood. After all, this delay would last for half a month or even longer, so it was no wonder she was in a good mood and it was inevitable that she would be a little irritable.
What else could they do but forgive her?
As for Yukiteru, we can only pray that his future won't be too bad.
Chapter 49 I'm Not Human Anymore!
Meanwhile, in a small house in an unknown location, Yukihira lay unconscious on a bed.
He had been here for seven days. He had woken up once during that time, but only for less than a minute. When he opened his eyes and saw Ryougi Shiki in front of him, he breathed a sigh of relief and then fainted again.
If he had known this thing would have such a strong aftereffect, he would never have used it. It was just too uncomfortable. It felt like he had been soaking in an absurdly hot spring and then sitting in a high-temperature sauna, his consciousness blurred.
It felt great to be pretentious back then, and now the "aftereffects" are just as enjoyable.
That day, the door opened again, and Ryougi Shiki walked in. Looking at Yukiteru, who was still unconscious, she asked a white-haired woman with a long braid beside her, "He's been like this for seven days now. Didn't you say he'd wake up in about seven days?"
"Is it my fault? This is the first time I've ever seen this kid's condition. This kind of post-natal transformation is simply miraculous." He came to Xuehui, lowered his head to observe him for a while, and reached out to check his pulse on his left wrist. He checked him without any fear of the high temperature on his body and said, "His breathing is stable, his temperature has come down, and the changes in his body are gradually stabilizing. He is indeed going to wake up in the next day or two."
At this point, the woman turned to look at Ryougi Shiki with great interest: "To be honest, I was quite surprised when you brought him here. There should only be one pair of Mystic Eyes in the world, yet another one has appeared. No wonder you took a young man as your disciple. What, are you planning to have him marry into your family?"
"Let's talk about that later. At least his relationship with Weina is pretty good right now." As they spoke, the two left the room and sat down in the courtyard outside. Although it was August, the temperature here was surprisingly cool.
"The successor of the Demon King, the grandson of the great demon Nurarihyon, the Demon King Hammer, the resurrected Hagoromo Gitsune, you really have bad luck to have caught up with such an era that is about to become chaotic." The woman said with a faint smile as she sipped her tea.
“If it really appears, then just cut it down.” Ryougi Shiki’s reply was equally bold, showing no concern or fear whatsoever because of the other party’s words.
The woman smiled with relief and nodded, "That's true. After all, when I first met you, you seemed fearless. But don't expect us to come to your aid. The great demons and non-human beings here will not interfere in your disputes."
“I never thought I would ask you for help, and I don’t think I would lose.”
"Because of that kid? I admit that the power within him has the potential to be no less than that of a demon god, but it will take time to unleash its full potential, and that's exactly what you lack right now."
"It's alright. If anything happens, the guys from the Flower Garden will be there to protect us. There will always be a chance." With that, Ryougi Shiki finished her tea in one gulp and walked towards the gate.
"Won't you sit down for a bit longer?"
"Come again tomorrow. I promised to stay here, so I'll help clean the shrine these next few days." As she spoke, Ryougi Shiki walked out of the courtyard and disappeared in a ripple.
"That's wonderful. The Mystic Eyes of Death Perception can come and go freely even with such a powerful barrier. Even gods and humans are no better than this." After making her assessment, the woman stood up, picked up a basket from the side, and walked into the house. "Then, let's continue making new medicine."
Three more days passed.
Accompanied by the birdsong outside and the sunlight streaming in through the window, Xuehui finally slowly opened her eyes.
"Ugh, how many times have I seen a ceiling I don't recognize?"
After his usual rant, Xuehui sat up, rubbed his head, and said, "Who am I? Where am I? What am I having for lunch today? Hmm... I don't know anything except the first one. Another day full of unknowns."
After observing the room, I found it to be a somewhat old-fashioned Japanese-style room. There was very little furniture in the room, except for the bed, a table, and two chairs. It was extremely simple and did not look like a guest room that was frequently used by guests.
"Squeak~"
Just as she was wondering whether she should get out of bed and go out to take a look, the door to the room opened, and a woman with white hair and a long robe walked in, followed closely by her teacher, Ryougi Shiki.
Seeing Yukiteru wake up and sit on the bed, Ryougi Shiki walked over to him and asked, "You're awake? How are you feeling?"
"I'm alright, I don't feel tired, and there's nothing unusual. Thank you for your help, teacher." After examining his own body, Xuehui looked at the other person in the room, "And this is...?"
“Me? I’m an old acquaintance of your teacher, Yagokoro Eirin, and also your attending physician these past few days. You don’t feel tired because I’ve given you a lot of good things.” After a pause, she continued, “Young man, you are the first man to enter Eientei since its construction. You have something to be proud of.”
"...Huh?" Looking at the woman in front of him, Xuehui was at a loss for words.
Although he doesn't play bullet hell games and isn't a Touhou fan, she still knows a bit about most of the characters.
You ask how I know? Hehe, you're too naive.
Yukiteru's incoherent expression didn't bother Eirin Yagokoro. Without saying anything, she grabbed Yukiteru's wrist, took his pulse, and said, "Open your mouth."
"?"
"Open your mouth and spit out some flames."
"Um... I'm not Charmander, I don't know the Flame move."
Eirin Yagokoro paused, then reached into her robes with her right hand and pulled out a needle, instantly flashing it in front of Yukiteru's eyes. She said, word by word, "Give it to me to vomit."
"..." Slowly, he moved his head back a little. After he could no longer feel the dazzling needle-like sensation, he gathered his strength and, with a "poof," spat out a small wisp of gray flame.
'Sister Demon Flame, I don't want to be human anymore...'
Just a moment ago, Xuehui felt a flame burning within his body, exactly the same flame he used after crushing that bead that day.
Now he realized that it wasn't a one-time special move at all, but rather a enhancement material.
But why does it feel like a fire stone in my pocket? Should I learn Burnout to fit the rules of this game?
I have a feeling that something important is drifting further and further away from me...
Yagokoro Eirin ignored Yukiteru's dazed expression, flicked her silver needle to direct the flames upwards, then took out a small jade bottle and put it inside. She said to Ryougi Shiki, "I'll compare this with the flames from a few days ago. His body is fine now. Take him out."
"Thank you." Ryougi Shiki said to Yagokoro Eirin as she walked out of the room. She stepped forward and tapped Yukiteru on the head, bringing him back to his senses. He then changed his clothes and came out.
After changing into the clothes placed beside the bed, Xuehui composed himself and left the room.
"Teacher, are we going back?" Yukiteru asked from behind as they walked out of the room, following the silent Ryougi Shiki.
Stepping out of the courtyard and out of the barrier, Ryougi Shiki said as she walked, "I will go back immediately, but you must stay here."
"Why? And where exactly is this place?"
Emerging from the woods, the two gazed at the hills, plains, and lakes ahead. Ryougi Shiki slowly said, "This is Tono, or rather, a secret realm within Tono, a secluded place that only a very few youkai can enter."
Hmmmm~ So, this isn't the complete Gensokyo, is it? It's just a place mainly inhabited by youkai?
It seems like no matter how I think about it, this isn't the place I belong.
