However, this nobleman was an eccentric fellow. Although the hotel was indeed quite high-class, the nobleman felt that the hotel lacked a strong sense of nature, so he stubbornly insisted that it was not a high-end hotel and therefore refused to pay the price demanded by the owner.

Upon hearing this, the hotel owner became extremely nervous for some reason. He immediately told the nobleman that he could lower the price and let him stay, but asked him to change his address and continue to call the hotel a "high-class hotel".

The nobleman's stubbornness kicked in; although he hoped the owner could lower the cost of the accommodation, he refused to admit that the hotel was a high-class establishment.

"At best, it's a mid-range hotel, not very good."

The nobleman kept repeating that phrase.

At this moment, the hotel owner suddenly became neurotic. He burst into tears, knelt down, and hugged the nobleman's legs, begging him to say that his hotel was high-class and that he was willing to let the nobleman stay for free, as long as he changed his mind.

The nobleman had never seen such a person before. Seeing the owner's strange behavior, he naturally dared not stay there and ran away with his entourage.

The owner, meanwhile, was wailing loudly on the spot. Now the whole town knew that the owner had become like this because a guest didn't think his hotel was high-class.

"That's how it is. I don't know what kind of trauma the boss suffered back then that made him so paranoid." The townsman shrugged; he couldn't understand the boss's behavior either.

"That's strange..." Sofia nodded. "But thank you anyway."

Sophia, having heard these things from the townspeople, naturally didn't forget to share what she had heard with the other girls.

After listening to the townspeople's account, Leona looked utterly disgusted: "My God, this guy definitely has some kind of mental illness... or is it some kind of obsession imposed on him by the Lord of Delusions?"

“This boss is really strange… Logically speaking, when someone with strong convictions hears others denying their beliefs, their first reaction should be anger. But why is this boss acting like this? Do you remember the look on the boss’s face when Flora said she wanted a regular dinner?” Rebecca said.

“He’s a little scared,” Agnes said first. She had been mostly silent, but she had been observing her surroundings very closely.

“Yes… why would I be scared? This is so unusual,” Rebecca sighed.

“Maybe his obsession is that he’s afraid people will say his hotel isn’t high-class enough?” Leona said. “Anyway, the Lord of Delusion probably doesn’t need to eat mortal souls or emotions. Maybe He can just do something simple and make this poor owner afraid of not being ‘high-class’ enough?”

“That makes sense, Leona. I think your guess is actually quite plausible,” Rebecca said.

"Anyway, let's keep an eye on him. This guy is getting more and more suspicious," Leona said.

……

The boss said dinner would be served in half an hour, and the kitchen really did prepare all the dinner within half an hour.

The neatly dressed apprentice carrying a tray of food walked out of the kitchen, only to be stopped by Rebecca.

“There’s still some time before your scheduled serving time. I’ve been keeping track of it outside, so please let me taste the food first,” Rebecca said. “Sorry, it’s my duty.”

"Ah...okay...okay." The apprentice seemed a little shy and didn't dare to look at Rebecca, but simply handed the plate to her.

Rebecca didn't stand on ceremony and tasted each dish without disturbing its appearance.

"Please be sure to...give a fair evaluation," the apprentice whispered at this moment.

"Hmm?" Rebecca looked at the apprentice strangely—he wasn't a chef either, so why was he so concerned about other people's taste?

After tasting the food, Rebecca was somewhat surprised to find that the dishes were indeed quite delicious, without any shoddy preparation or added ingredients. She not only couldn't smell any medicine in the food, but also didn't taste anything unusual.

Is it simply because I'm being overly sensitive that I'm mistaking my eccentric boss for a puppet of an evil god?

“This dish is quite delicious; it can be considered high-end.” Rebecca nodded at this moment. “It’s already at the level of a high-class restaurant in a big city. It’s really good.”

"Thank you so much..." The apprentice breathed a long sigh of relief.

"Why are you so bothered by these things? It's like something bad will happen if I give an unfair evaluation," Rebecca asked, frowning.

The apprentice didn't answer. He lowered his head, took the plate from Rebecca, and hurried toward the restaurant.

Chapter 353 Tracking

"Sir, Madam, what do you think of our upscale dinner? Is it suitable?"

Abyss and Flora have now begun their meal, while the owner stands respectfully to the side as they begin to eat, asking them questions.

Rebecca had already tested the food served from the kitchen and followed the apprentice in charge of serving the food all the way to the table, so it was certainly safe for Abyss and Flora to eat.

The dinner was indeed quite good, mostly dishes with a strong Western Empire flavor. Soft and delicious bread, fragrant stews, and juicy steaks all made Flora very happy. Of course, there was also the roasted carrots she ordered—the chef's skills were quite good; the carrots were roasted to just the right temperature, making them fragrant and sweet.

This dinner wasn't as elaborate as the Eastern Empire's, where dishes were served one by one. However, all the dishes that needed to be kept warm were kept warm on special plates engraved with temperature-regulating magic arrays. The high-end ingredients, expensive tableware, and the chef's superb skills all demonstrated the "high-end" nature of this small inn.

“Very good, boss, the food at your hotel is indeed very high-class.” Abis sat on the side closest to the boss, trying to keep Flora away from this somewhat suspicious boss.

"Haha, that's good, that's good, please enjoy your meal." The boss seemed very happy. He bowed to Abyss, walked to the waitress waiting to the side, nodded to her, gave her a wink, and then left immediately.

The waitress stood to one side, quietly watching Abyss and Flora eat, waiting for their instructions.

"It seems there's no problem?" Abyss said in the shared mind. "At least dinner tonight is normal. Rebecca can't taste any difference, and I don't feel anything is wrong with the food either."

“But we still think this owner is a bit strange,” Leona said, already seated with the other girls at another table enjoying their maid-special dinner—not exactly high-class, but still quite delicious. “Why is he so afraid of people saying his inn isn’t upscale enough?”

“Then I’ll leave it to you to continue monitoring him. In any case, we must protect Flora,” Abis said.

"You should focus on having dinner with Flora. She's been secretly watching you since earlier," Rebecca said with a slight smile to Abyss, reminding him through their shared thoughts.

Abyss glanced to the side and saw that Flora, though eating from her plate, kept glancing in Abyss's direction, her face slightly flushed, as if she were making a decision.

"Flora, is there something you need?" Abyss asked with a smile.

Flora looked away for a moment, then looked back at Abyss: "Would you like some roasted carrots?"

"Yes, I do." Abyss nodded.

"Open your mouth." Flora used her fork to pick up a piece of carrot from her plate and fed it directly to Abyss.

Abyss also cooperated by opening his mouth and eating the carrot that Flora fed him.

Abyss and Flora now really look like an engaged couple, with a very close and inseparable relationship.

"Ah... I miscalculated." Rebecca turned her eyes away helplessly. "What should I do? Flora has outdone me."

"Waaaaah... I really want someone to feed me too..." Leona was incredibly jealous, but too embarrassed to say she wanted Abyss to feed her.

"Open your mouth." Agnes then took a piece of bread covered in cheese soup from her plate and fed it to Leona.

Leona certainly didn't want to be fed by a girl, but Agnes meant well, so she closed her eyes and imagined that the person feeding her was Abyss, and ate the bread Agnes handed her.

"Agnes, feed me too," Sophia said, leaning her face in to join in the fun.

“I’ve finished my bread,” Agnes blinked. “Here’s some soup for you.”

"Here, have my soup too!" Leona said petulantly, pushing her soup towards Sophia, then took Agnes's hand. "Let's go, we need to get back to our mission."

“Hmm.” Agnes didn’t resist. After all, she was now an undead and didn’t need to eat—even if she did eat, undead couldn’t feel full.

Sofia happily drank the soup that Agnes and Leona shared with her, while Leona pulled Agnes away from there, so they wouldn't have to see Abyss and Flora's affectionate display.

"It's getting late, and it's already dark. Why isn't the owner staying in his hotel? Why is he going out?"

Leona watched the hotel owner's retreating figure and whispered to Agnes beside her.

The two women had barely left the restaurant when Agnes's insect intelligence agent reported their discovery to her—the owner had just left the inn and no one knew where he was going. This was unusual; it was supposed to be rest time, so what could he be doing out so late at night? Was he going to play cards with friends? But according to Sophia's previous inquiries with others in town, the owner had no friends, and even those he used to know had become estranged due to a lack of communication.

"Follow him?" Agnes asked Leona in a low voice.

“Yes, we have to follow him, and we also need to tell Sophia and Agnes about this guy’s unusual movements.” Leona nodded seriously. “Tell them to finish their meal and come over quickly. I have a feeling this boss is up to something.”

“Hmm.” Agnes nodded, and she and Leona quietly began to follow their boss.

Agnes and Leona were both quite petite, and Agnes was also skilled in nature magic. The two of them were perfectly concealed in the fading light of the setting sun, when only a faint glimmer of dawn remained in the sky. They followed their boss at a comfortable distance, keeping a close watch on the figure ahead.

The boss walked slowly down the town's road with his head down. There were hardly any people on the street, and since he had no connections, he naturally didn't attract anyone's attention.

He walked through several streets and alleys until he reached the town's wall—there was a hole in the wall big enough for a person to bend over and pass through.

"He's leaving town? The area outside town is all wasteland, and he's not riding a horse. What's he going out for?" Leona's eyes grew increasingly wary.

Chapter 354 The Boss Who Almost Died from Exhaustion

After leaving the town, the boss's pace gradually quickened, turning from a brisk walk into a jog.

"Hey... what's the rush?" Leona frowned.

“Don’t worry,” Agnes said calmly. “There are lots of plants here.”

Agnes is right. This town is remote and sparsely populated, with very little development in the surrounding area, and is covered with lush vegetation.

It was still early autumn, and the plants here were intertwined, allowing Agnes to easily pinpoint her boss's location based on their reports.

"Keep up, keep up!" Leona grabbed Agnes's hand and continued to follow their boss, hiding among the bushes and trees in the wilderness.

The boss jogged towards the distance, but there was nothing special ahead of him, nor was he heading towards any road or village.

This made his behavior even more suspicious.

“We’re far enough away from town now. Should I beat him up? Or arrest him?” Leona started rubbing her hands together, eager to take action, after walking nearly a kilometer with her boss.

It seems like no one will see us operating here. Let's grab this boss first, ask him what he's planning to do, and if he really is a bad guy, then beat him up—this shouldn't risk disturbing Flora.

"Wait a moment, we'll be there soon. Let's get started once we arrive," Rebecca's voice came through the shared thought process.

“Alright! Rebecca is a pro at torture.” Leona agreed readily.

The boss was still running outside, panting heavily and staggering, but he didn't stop for a second.

Running more than a kilometer continuously is a huge physical burden for an elderly man who is at least sixty years old, but the boss is still running.

The surrounding plants were still reporting the boss's actions to Agnes in real time; the boss hadn't even stopped to rest along the way.

However, Rebecca and Sofia arrived at that moment.

"Phew...so tired. We're here. How's the boss doing? Still on the run?"

Rebecca was dragged here by Sofia and was a little out of breath.

“Yeah, he’s still running. Should we wait for him to reach his destination?” Leona turned around and helped Rebecca, who was exhausted. “He’s probably almost at his limit too. He should be there soon, right?”

“Okay, let’s follow him closely and see what he’s up to,” Rebecca said, catching her breath.

“If he’s planning to do something bad, we can stop him in time,” Sofia said as she ran over with Rebecca.

"It's really strange. If this old man is a puppet of an evil god, why would he go so far? Is there anything here that could be considered high-end?" Leona said curiously. "Or does he have any ingredients in his kitchen that can only be found in the wilderness?"

"It shouldn't be. I've tasted all the dishes served from the kitchen. The meats are all finely fed poultry and livestock, and the vegetables are all top-quality products cultivated with magic. There's nothing picked from the wild," Rebecca shook her head.

The people of the Western Empire were full of rebellious spirit and did not adhere to the principle that "natural is good" like the elves. Their standard for judging the quality of food was a fairly objective "taste".
