"We are indeed prepared to kill you and completely erase your soul here." The God of Death and Slaughter spoke first, his voice extremely cold. "Once your soul is destroyed, the Lord of Death and Silence will also disappear completely."

“So, perhaps what saved me was my choice in the illusion just now, right?” Abyss smiled and nodded. “Indeed, if I had become lost in the power, putting me back might not have been a wise choice.”

“You are very clever,” said the God of Magic. “We are actually monitoring your performance during the experience. If you are not qualified to wield this power that does not belong to you, then we will destroy it ourselves—of course, your followers and your world will be preserved.”

Abyss waved his hand: "I know this is meant to reassure me, but it's unnecessary. I know very well that to obtain this power from the evil god, one must possess qualities worthy of it."

If it were anyone else, they might feel lucky about the current situation, but Abyss did not have that thought.

If Abyss cannot maintain its original intention after suddenly gaining power beyond its common sense, then it will no longer be itself, and it does not want to be that way.

Once power is handed to you, you must use it wisely, not recklessly for momentary pleasure. When power becomes overwhelming, any careless use can lead to serious consequences.

The Abyss doesn't need any believers, nor does he need anyone's gratitude or praise. He lives for himself and for his beliefs, as he always has.

“I don’t want to lose sight of my original aspirations,” Abyss said earnestly to the God of Magic. “This is the reason for my choice, and the only reason.”

"You have passed our test." The gentle voice of the God of Life and Harvest came from behind. "I hope you can understand that this is an agreement between us and the Lord of Death and Silence—if a mortal who obtains His power cannot control it and becomes lost in arrogance, then we can destroy that mortal along with the power of the Lord of Death and Silence. Now, you have temporarily proven that you are qualified to use the power of the Lord of Death and Silence. Congratulations."

The nine gods clapped together, but this was clearly not their usual way of celebrating; the applause seemed insincere—they were merely using mortal methods to make the Abyss feel that they were being congratulated.

“Then, I can give you something else, Abys Belator.”

As the god of magic spoke, he took out another ball of light and handed it to the Abyss.

Abyss took the orb of light and, as before, focused his mind on it. Soon, some knowledge flowed into his mind.

"This is what your master left behind, knowledge he didn't pass on to you back then," the God of Magic said. "When the Lord of Death finally contacted us, your master entrusted the Lord of Death to pass this knowledge on to us. He also left you a message, asking us to tell you that you have the right to all his knowledge."

Now, the Abyss's master, Gerard, is finally able to truly impart all his knowledge to the world.

From this orb of light, the Abyss obtained magic that could restore the fertility of the undead, as well as a method to unite with the gods.

Abyss remembered the comic book he'd seen in the Dark Elf sisters' shop. In it, the Lord of Death was swallowed whole by someone, who then temporarily took the Lord of Death's form—he finally knew who the protagonist of that picture was: his master, Glad!

Back then, Glad first used himself as a vessel to devour the Lord of the Dead into his own body, and then transferred him to the unborn Abyss. This action prevented the Lord of the Dead's power from becoming too overwhelming and causing the Abyss to die in the womb. It can be said that it was his master's intermediary that allowed the Abyss to be born successfully and survive.

This would cause considerable harm to the master's body, which was the direct cause of his early death. The plague that infected him from the dead was merely the last straw that broke the camel's back.

As for why his master repeatedly instructed the Abyss not to resurrect him on his deathbed, it was probably because he did not want to return to the human world. In pursuit of a grander ideal, his master had done things that violated the necromancer's code and human morality; several infants died directly in his experiments, which likely left him immersed in guilt for the rest of his life.

"Before I leave, I have one more question. I once saw a comic book; do you know about it?" Abyss looked up and asked the Nine Gods.

“I know. In the shop of those three dark elves, you saw a comic strip depicting how Glad devoured the Lord of Death. That painting was done by an artist who witnessed the entire event. Your master should have silenced him, but he chose to let the artist leave, without even erasing his memory,” the God of Magic said calmly.

"What was my master fighting at that time?" Abyss asked.

“Your own evil thoughts,” said the God of Magic. “This is something that all mortals possess. The survival instinct of mortals can eventually develop into evil thoughts. When your master devoured the Lord of Death and gained His power, he also separated his own evil thoughts from himself. That evil thought became an avatar containing divine power, and Glad is fighting against it.”

"Do I also harbor these evil thoughts? Will I need to fight them then?"

“Your evil intentions are much weaker than those of ordinary mortals, but I’m afraid that when you truly activate the power of the Lord of Death, you will have to take the same step as your master.” The God of Magic nodded slightly. “We also have one last thing to tell you this time—to activate the power of the Lord of Death, you need to use the primordial power of the Creator God.”

"I have a system here. Is it capable of handling this primordial power?"

“The system won’t work. Although the system has the power of the Creator God, it doesn’t have the Primal Power,” the God of Magic refuted. “Just like you mortals have magic and battle aura, the Creator God’s power is also divided into different kinds. The Primal Power is the power he used when creating the gods.”

"Does our world possess such power?" Abyss tilted his head.

"We don't know about that; the power of the Creator God is beyond our comprehension," said the God of Magic. "Would you like to go and find out for yourself?"

“I don’t have any other choice, do I?” Abyss spread his hands. “Besides, I’d be quite happy to find out.”

Chapter 293 Learn Another Foreign Language

When Abyss opened his eyes, Leona and Maggie had already lifted the female mage robes he was wearing and were examining the skin on his thighs.

"That shaping potion can even change the texture of legs! It feels so good to squeeze, it's just like a girl's thigh!" Maggie exclaimed in surprise, squeezing Abyss's thigh repeatedly. "It feels amazing! Abyss has more flesh than me, so it feels even better to squeeze. It's nothing like a boy's hard thigh."

"Hmph, Rebecca's shaping potion is incredibly powerful. With a few other potions, it can not only create the texture of muscles, but even the pores have been modified. Anita is from the Western Empire, so her pores are larger than those of the Abyss, who have elven blood, and this potion has replicated that perfectly." Leona was proudly describing the effects of the shaping potion they were using to Maggie, as if she had invented it herself.

The two girls were chatting happily when Maggie glanced up and met Abyss's gaze as he looked at her.

"Wow!" Maggie exclaimed in surprise. "Mr. Abyss, you're back!"

“Yes, I’m back from meeting with the Nine Gods. The conversation went smoothly.” Abyss smiled, watching Maggie awkwardly pull her mage robe, which she had just lifted, back into place.

Leona didn't seem embarrassed at all. She pointed at Maggie and said, "She's the one who wants to see your thighs!"

Maggie nodded vigorously: "Yes! It's me!"

It seems these two girls have already conspired to meet the Nine Gods in the Abyss.

“I’ll give you some of that shaping potion later. You can use it to play around with, but don’t use it for pranks,” Abyss said nonchalantly to Maggie. “I’m going back with Leona soon; we still have things to do in the Shadowlands.”

Maggie immediately unleashed all the curiosity she had been holding back: "By the way, Mr. Abyss, what did you say to the Nine Gods when you met them? Was it just about the evil god inside your soul—oh, Leona already told me about that. Don't they hate you? I remember the Nine Gods and evil gods are sworn enemies, right? How did you get back safely? By the way, I heard the Nine Gods don't need to use the toilet, so do they need to eat? Speaking of eating, I just remembered that super spicy roasted potato I had last night..."

Leona politely covered Maggie's mouth.

Abyss then told the two girls about his conversation with the nine gods in the divine realm, and also shared these things with his other family members through mind sharing.

"They're actually planning to kill you?" Leona was immediately displeased when she heard that the Nine Gods intended to eliminate Abyss before he was qualified to wield his power. "How can we cooperate like this? Can't we just have some fun?"

"So the Nine Gods are this realistic? I thought they were all very holy. I heard the Vatican preach that they were like that before." Maggie felt that her image of the Nine Gods was crumbling and seemed unhappy.

"It's nothing. If I were one of the Nine Gods, I would have done the same. Giving such great power to someone who isn't ready to receive it can easily lead to problems. Being unworthy of one's position is a very dangerous thing," Abyss said with a smile. "You don't need to be too indignant. When I left, they told me about a very convenient ability."

"What ability?" Leona and Maggie stared at him curiously.

Abyss then told them about the new ability he had just learned.

In the realm of the gods, after receiving an experience and some knowledge from the God of Magic, the God of Magic also told the Abyss a message. Although the Lord of Death is currently in a slumbering state within the Abyss's soul and is of little use, the Lord of Death is still the Lord of Death, and his word still carries immense weight among his followers.

Therefore, the Abyss can actually communicate with higher-intelligence shadow demons. While the followers who have been turned into black mud have severely impaired cognitive abilities, the higher-ranking ones can still understand the Abyss's commands and will instinctively obey. Of course, communication must be conducted using the unique language of the Lord of the Dead; otherwise, it's useless—the followers turned into black mud are not only not mentally sound, but their very existence is another matter entirely.

Finally, before the Abyss left the realm of the gods, the god of magic taught it the language of the Lord of Death through direct transmission of knowledge. According to Him, this was compensation for having just been about to kill the Abyss.

Abyss wasn't too concerned about compensation, but the language was very convenient for him; with it, he could do much more in the Shadowlands.

Knowing another foreign language is so convenient.

"Oh! Let's hurry back to the Shadowfall and try it out! So you can control those shadow demons!" Leona was overjoyed.

She was already surprised enough when she heard Abyss say that the Shadow Demons were actually followers of the Lord of Death who had brought them from various worlds to Hay-Twer. She never expected that she could turn enemies into friends and make these bloodthirsty monsters her help.

"Wow, that's amazing!" Maggie exclaimed excitedly. "Mr. Abyss, do you have a language here that can communicate with animals? If so, could you teach me?"

"Why don't you just use nature magic?" Abyss blinked.

Maggie slapped her forehead: "That's right!"

Although they had been on guard against assassination attempts by the Council of the Dead, being under the Sacred Tree meant they weren't easy targets, so Maggie's life had been quite leisurely, without encountering any major problems. After exchanging pleasantries with her for a while, Abyss and Leona left behind a shaping potion they had previously used for disguise, along with its antidote, and returned to Helheim.

……

"We're back!" Abyss, holding Leona's hand, emerged from the spatial rift with a beaming smile and addressed the group of girls waiting for him in Helheim.

"The communication with the Nine Gods went smoothly, that's wonderful!" Flora was the first to greet them, saying happily. She was the one who was most worried about the Abyss just now, and having learned about the Nine Gods' style of doing things, she had no trust in the god she had once served.

“Congratulations on finally finding your past,” Rebecca said with a smile.

“I want to try it out, a new language,” Agnes said succinctly. She had just learned that the Abyss had learned a language from the Nine Gods, and now she was very curious about it.

Abyss's smile began to take on a mysterious air: "Of course I'm going to try out this new language, and I have a new plan now."

Chapter 294 Advanced Exchange

"Three third-tier mage slaves, totaling three thousand five hundred and ten gold."

"A large ritual magic material package, 1200 gold."

"Thank you for your patronage, Master Davidz."

The staff at the window were very polite and did not dare to neglect the customers standing in front of the window, which is probably quite rare in an ordinary Undead Council exchange.

"Hmm, don't forget to send those three slaves to my apprentice." Standing at the door was an old-looking but robust necromancer, exuding an aura of quiet authority. Such an aura could only be emanated from within by a true master, aside from specially trained actors.

This is a high-level trading post of the Council of the Dead.

The so-called high-level exchange is not open to ordinary members; only high-ranking members of the Undead Council and a small number of mid-level members with special status are qualified to trade here. Because it serves prominent figures in the Undead Council, the prices of goods and slaves, as well as the quality of service, far surpass those of ordinary exchanges.

Today was an ordinary day. As usual, there weren't many people buying things at the exchange. There were only four people buying things in the hall, but there were more than a dozen staff members serving them. They were all very careful, afraid of accidentally offending these highly skilled experts.

"Any news here lately?" a portly customer asked a beautiful female mage who was in charge of greeting customers as he walked to the middle of the hall.

The receptionist was clearly a professional; despite her role as a receptionist, she also had the task of informing distinguished guests about the latest news. She immediately began, "Hello, esteemed Master Bono, nothing major has happened recently. It's worth mentioning that a few days ago, a mid-level councilor got into a conflict with staff while shopping at the exchange, resulting in a fight that caused some damage to the council, including the magic array and some equipment. However, the exchange has now been completely repaired, and the troublemaking mid-level councilor has been expelled."

"Ha, listen to these fools, all brawn and no brains." The customer called Master Bono turned to look at the other customers and commented on the protagonist of the news with a hint of mockery.

The other customers glanced at him and chuckled softly. They clearly knew each other—the High Council only had thirty-two seats, and its membership rarely changed, so it wasn't unusual for them to know each other.

"Is there any other news?" Master Bono asked again, sounding somewhat disappointed.

"Yes, Master Bono, there has been no progress in recent magical research, nor has anything happened. The latest intelligence from the mainland has not yet been received," the receptionist said respectfully. "There are some minor matters, such as the recent unusual activity of the Shadow Demons. They seem to have been disturbed by the apprentice of a mid-level councilor. This disturbance did not cause any casualties, and the person who started the disturbance successfully escaped."

"Well, that's all then. Another peaceful day." Master Bono sighed. "Have we been maintaining peace with the continent for too long? I think we should submit some applications to the Council of Elders to give them some opportunities to act. Otherwise, these days are getting too boring."

"Are you getting restless? I think staying put is the most important thing. I'm currently conducting an experiment that can directly kill mages and turn them into ghosts. These ghosts possess stronger spiritual power than other ghosts. The research has hit a bottleneck, and I need some more time," Master Davidz, who had just been buying slaves, said to Bono.

"The reason I chose the path of a necromancer was because I knew this school of thought was illegal, that I didn't have to follow the rules people set, and that I could fight to my heart's content," Bono said with a smile. "Fight whenever you want, kill whenever you want—how free and joyful!"

“Our school of thought used to adhere to its own code of conduct as well.” Another bald senior councilor, who had been silent until now, spoke up in a deep voice, “Have you forgotten the code of conduct of us necromancers?”

"Haha! Master Larry, you're being argumentative again. Of course I remember, but so what?" Bono laughed, his voice jarring in the quiet exchange. "Are you going to abide by the rules?"

"..." The necromancer called Master Larry fell silent. Of course, he was just talking; he could never actually abide by the creed.

Finding someone in the Council of the Dead who adheres to the necromancer's code of conduct is probably no less difficult than finding an iced drink in a pool of lava.

Just as these senior councilors were having a pleasant conversation, a tremor suddenly ran through their feet.

These people were all experts, so such unusual movements naturally alerted them all.

"What's going on? What is this tremor... Is the Shadow Demons migrating?" Davidz frowned, feeling something was off. "I remember the Shadow Demons usually migrate in November, something seems off today."

"Yes, it's the tremor from a large number of shadow demons moving at the same time." A wood elf necromancer who was enjoying a newly purchased potion in the corner joined the conversation. "And they're heading this way now. Should we go out and check it out?"

"Is it necessary?" Larry asked.

“Oh, hey, my dear Larry, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Why don’t we go out and stretch our muscles? If a Shadow Demon passes overhead, the Exchange might be damaged, and this is to protect the interests of the Council.” Bono seemed very excited about this anomaly. He walked to the side, grabbed his staff from a shelf, and polished a large ring on his hand.
