Before the two gang members had finished their drinks, Rebecca started walking again.

Time continued to speed up from time to time, and Rebecca's footsteps covered the entire continent.

She saw her potions behave drastically differently in different places, under different circumstances, and in the hands of different people. Some potions, originally meant to save lives, became the source of suffering, while others that seemed useless became lifelines for some.

Joy and sorrow, separation and reunion, all happen differently to everyone in this world. The same thing can have completely different effects depending on the circumstances.

Technology is not just a double-edged sword, but a versatile folding knife. Even a genius like Rebecca cannot predict what unexpected effects the same potion will produce at different times.

When the potion works unexpectedly to save people from dire straits, Rebecca can also sense people's wisdom in survival and secretly rejoices for those who are saved.

Rebecca also felt sadness when some potions were used for evil purposes and harmed people. But this time, instead of selectively blinding and deafening herself, she faced these things she originally hated to confront.

Because these are living, breathing historical events, even if Rebecca doesn't accept them, they undeniably happened. The wheels of history roll ever onward, carrying all people and things along with them; every event, whether joyful or sorrowful, is a part of the "present" of this world.

Rebecca's steps were guided as she observed the impact of at least several thousand of her own potions—including some she had never sold but which were copied by other alchemists—on the world. She gradually realized that she could no longer afford to be timid. Closing her eyes and plugging her ears might offer temporary relief, but ultimately, nothing could be changed.

From the very beginning, there was no world where no one would get hurt.

As time passed, Rebecca arrived in the time after her death. In these forty years, the technology on the continent continued to develop rapidly. The formulas that Rebecca sold back then evolved with the interpretation of generation after generation of outstanding alchemists, branching out into various different potions and playing a role in different fields.

The agricultural research institute she had Lannis help establish in her will produced a magical potion that, at a low price, significantly increased crop yields on the continent, driving famine away and indirectly reducing large-scale wars.

Even without Rebecca, the world continues to progress, and all sorts of potions are still being developed, some for the benefit of humanity, others for evil. Watching the changes across the continent, Rebecca gradually begins to have new thoughts.

Rebecca, who had always been proud and looked down on the world, suddenly felt her own insignificance. That fire, even without her, would have broken out in some other form. Perhaps her continued view of it as her mistake was just a special manifestation of her inner pride.

"I am a genius, but a genius who lives in arrogance and cowardice is incomplete." This thought slowly rose in her mind.

Time continued to pass, and her footsteps continued to wander across the continent, sometimes stopping, sometimes starting. Finally, she returned to Lavoisier and stood once more on the street where the fire had once taken place.

This is now the final part of Rebecca's history, and the point in time she is at is coinciding with the time she arrived.

The tragedy has gradually faded from people's memories, and the people living on this street are chatting and laughing. Some people are living happily, while others are still struggling for the future. Some people still have scars on their bodies, but they have already started living normal lives.

Looking at the scene before her, she suddenly felt a surge of comfort, and some stubborn things in her heart quietly crumbled.

The intense desire to change history vanished instantly, like a drop of water falling onto a hot pan.

"Pfft..." She suddenly laughed. "How foolish I was. I didn't want to change history or save those people; I was just making excuses for my cowardice. How can history be changed? It's already happened, it's become part of reality. All I can do, besides make up for my mistakes, is keep moving forward. Dying once didn't teach me this, but now, I finally understand..."

The moment Rebecca finished speaking, everything around her seemed to undergo a subtle change, as if a transparent membrane had been peeled away, and a sense of reality flooded her senses. She knew she was back in the real world. She was standing on that familiar street; the traces of the fire were still there, history had not been altered, and she was still in her original reality.

But this reality now doesn't feel so terrible to her; it even feels somewhat familiar.

She glanced to the side and saw the Abyss standing beside her, smiling at her. Beneath his feet was a magic circle, no longer glowing, carved into a stone slab; clearly, the spell had ended successfully.

“Welcome back, Rebecca,” Abyss said gently.

Rebecca stared blankly at Abyss for a moment, then took a step forward, reached out, and gently hugged him.

“There are other people around,” Abyss said with a smile as he opened his arms to let Rebecca into his embrace.

“Liar, I know you’re using tricks.” Rebecca looked up at him, staring into his eyes. “Tell me, did you never actually send me back to the past?”

“You did go back to the past, but not completely.” Abyss grinned. “We’ll discuss the reasons behind this when we get back to Helheim. For me, what’s more important is how you’re feeling right now.”

“Although I know you’ve lied to me again, you big liar… I’ve never felt this relaxed since that fire.” Rebecca stepped out of the Abyss’s embrace and smoothed her hair. “I know why you drank that potion that connected our minds. You wanted to guide me to different places as I experienced history, to let me see different things, right?”

“Yes, you’re right.” Abyss nodded. “I’m the one who takes you to all sorts of places as you experience history. Don’t worry, I didn’t play any tricks. What you see is real history; nothing is fabricated. I never intended to deceive you from the beginning.”

“I finally understand. Going back in time and changing history means nothing to me.” Rebecca nodded gently, looking at the Abyss. “You knew this all along, but you didn’t tell me.”

“Because telling you back then would not only have been useless, but it might have even backfired.” Abyss shrugged. “For a genius like you, preaching is not very useful; you have to figure it out yourself. What you need is to overcome your psychological shadow and face everything that happened in the past—and now, you have done it. Congratulations, Rebecca, your true wish has now come true.”

Abyss gently clapped for Rebecca.

Chapter 231 The Abyss's Clumsy Method

Rebecca told the Abyss that her dream was "to build a time machine that could change the past and prevent the tragedy that had shaped her life." But the Abyss did not do as Rebecca had hoped.

In truth, from the moment he heard Rebecca express her wish, he already knew that what Rebecca needed was not some so-called time machine. Even if the Abyss truly went through countless hardships to find a way to travel through time, it would be impossible for Rebecca to truly fulfill her wish.

Leaving aside the butterfly effect that time travel and altering the past would trigger and the unforeseen consequences it would cause, Rebecca alone wouldn't be able to get past this hurdle—her wish is not what she truly needs; it's merely an excuse she uses to hypnotize herself. Even if she were to achieve this dream, Rebecca would never fulfill her life's desire and achieve true fulfillment.

Therefore, Abyss intended to use this method to resolve Rebecca's inner conflict.

Only when she faces this issue squarely, and acknowledges the different roles technology can play in different situations, can she truly break free from this constraint and become the real Rebecca again.

The Abyss brought Rebecca back to Helheim. The room they entered was where the Abyss stored his internal organs and brain. To Rebecca's surprise, all the other members of his retinue and Sheila were there.

Agnes was sitting in front of a large glass dish, casting magic on a brain.

The brain seemed to have generated a lot of heat just now, and Agnes's magic was dissipating that heat. Around this enormous glass dish, waves of heat were surging; an ordinary person probably couldn't stay here for even a minute.

“This is…” Rebecca looked at Abyss in surprise.

Abyss laughed and said, "Because I've been with you the whole time you were traveling through history, now I can tell you what I did this time. Look over there, Leona is already incredibly curious."

Just as the Abyss had said, Leona had long wanted to know exactly how the Abyss had helped Rebecca achieve her dream. Now, she sat in a chair, holding a large bag of fries topped with hot cheese in one hand and a large glass of juice in the other, waiting for the Abyss to tell her.

"Then tell me... I never expected you to get your brain working to this extent while showing me around... The last time you were like this was when you were fighting to the death with that demigod in the Dead World, right?"

“Brains are meant to be used; they’re just sitting there doing nothing. I might as well put them to good use. Besides, Agnes is helping me cool down, so I’m actually in pretty good shape right now.” Abyss glanced gratefully at Agnes, who had been silently maintaining the magic to cool him down.

Agnes didn't speak, but nodded to the Abyss and casually cast a cooling spell on it to make it more comfortable in the unbearably hot room.

“First, let’s talk about my idea. You already know that I never intended to create a time machine for you from the beginning.” Abyss began his explanation to Rebecca. “As for the specific operation, I only finalized it recently. I plan to let you travel through history, see the world, and then resolve your own inner conflicts.”

“If you want to do this, wouldn’t it be better to use the power of the Lord of Nightmares to let me have a dream directly?” Rebecca thought for a moment and then asked Abyss.

“I’ve thought about that before, but I canceled the plan later. A dream is still a dream, no matter how real it is, it’s still woven. What I want to show you is the most authentic history, the reality that will leave you with no regrets after you’ve resolved your inner conflicts.” Abyss gently shook his head. “It’s not for any sense of ritual, nor is it about getting stuck on something. I just feel that I must give you the most authentic thing so that you can truly fulfill your wish.”

Rebecca smiled gently: "Maybe that's how it is... My previous situation was caused by psychological problems... Perhaps only by witnessing the real history can I fulfill my wish... You understand me best, Abyss."

“When I was in my room, I was actually using the power of the Lord of Nightmares—I kept modifying my magic schemes in my dreams, and finally found the best combination, creating the magic circle that took you on a tour of history just now,” Abyss continued. “This magic organically combines various minor spells, allowing me to control the passage of time to a certain extent, and enabling you to move within it. As for the spell that lets you see the past, I have greatly enhanced it, allowing it to see the history of the entire world up to the last fifty years.”

"That's too powerful! Does that mean nothing can be hidden from you for the next fifty years?" Leona swallowed the fries in her mouth and asked in surprise.

“No, that’s not it. In this replay, the stronger the energy within an individual, the harder it is to observe. I tried observing Agnes from back then in a dream—she was completely invisible in that magic, and even things related to her became blurry—the power of this magic is still quite limited.” Abyss shook his head.

After all, this magic uses magical records to recall the world, and when an individual's power becomes too great and disturbs too much magical power, the world's memory of them will also be overloaded, which cannot be repaired by a simple rewind spell.

"Why is your brain under such a high load?" Rebecca asked.

Agnes's cooling magic is gradually stopping; the heat in Abyss's brain has almost dissipated, and further cooling would likely cause his brain to freeze.

"Because I don't know exactly what the world was like at every point in history, when I traveled with you through that world, I was scanning the entire world as I could observe it over and over again. When I found a scenario that was helpful in resolving your inner conflict, I would guide you there and let you see it... Doing this once or twice is fine, but I've been scanning the entire world minute by minute for over forty years, which puts a lot of strain on my brain."

Abyss said it casually.

Hearing Abyss's words, Sheila gasped in surprise, covering her mouth. She knew Abyss possessed extraordinary intelligence, but what he described was truly beyond her comprehension. If it were anyone else, Sheila would have readily dismissed it as boasting, but with Abyss, she found it hard to doubt.

“I was wondering… how did I manage to go to one historical site after another so precisely when I was touring history… so you were helping me with this clumsy method?” Rebecca’s eyes widened, and her gaze toward the Abyss became complicated.

Chapter 232 Obtained Another System

“Yes, if I had more time to think, I might use a slightly easier method. But right now, the Lord of Delusion is also putting pressure on us, so I can’t think things through calmly. I’ll just use this clumsy method for now.” Abyss nodded. “Anyway, it’s just a matter of using my brain, a piece of cake.”

Rebecca looked at the Abyss with a trusting smile. She knew that the Abyss made it sound easy, but doing so would be incredibly tiring, the kind of exhaustion most people couldn't imagine. This fatigue seemed to have been deliberately blocked by the Abyss, preventing it from reaching Rebecca through the enhanced necromancy.

Browsing through history, it took Rebecca only a few months, but from the Abyss's perspective, he could scan the world at a rate of once per minute, and more than forty years passed in this way.

“I knew I could always trust you.” Rebecca gently took Abyss’s hand and said softly to him, “My wish has come true. Now I know how to fight against the obstacles in my heart. Abyss, thanks to you, we did it.”

“Yes, we did it.” Abyss gave Rebecca a thumbs up with his free hand.

A strange sensation emanated from the necromancy bond.

Abyss knew this was Rebecca's reward for fulfilling his wish, a reward that showed Rebecca's affection for him was at its peak. Rebecca's power would be fully transferred to him through the power offering.

Unlike the power Leona received, Rebecca received extraordinary intelligence. While the Abyss itself possessed a very high IQ, Rebecca differed from him in several ways.

Abyss excels in magic, while Rebecca excels in alchemy. The properties of various materials in alchemy are intricate and complex. Even though modern alchemy has been meticulously documented in various books by its founders, detailing the properties of various materials as comprehensively as possible, alchemy remains a very difficult discipline. This is why the number of alchemists who have achieved some success on the continent is far less than the number of mediocre mages.

For this reason, what alchemists need most, besides rigorous thinking skills, is inspiration.

A flash of inspiration might lead to unexpected results by replacing one potion in a recipe with another. Rebecca may be as intelligent as the Abyss, but her mind is far more agile, allowing her to create new potions at any time.

Now, what floods into Abyss's mind is this wisdom, which contains a great deal of inspiration.

Abyss felt his mind suddenly become clear—not that he was usually not clear-headed, but that after Rebecca's wisdom flooded in, Abyss had the illusion that he had never truly been clear-headed before.

It was as if someone with dulled senses were suddenly cured by a doctor and became acutely aware; or as if someone with a chronically congested nose suddenly had their nose clear. Abis also felt that all his senses, as well as the agility of his mind, had been thoroughly cleansed and greatly enhanced, a feeling that was pleasant and delightful.

"It worked! Rebecca's wish really came true!" Leona exclaimed in surprise as she finished her juice in one gulp.

Flora looked at Rebecca, who was now incredibly happy, and at Abyss, who was receiving Rebecca's offering of power and showing a blissful expression. She was also secretly happy for the two of them.

"Wow... once our wish is fulfilled, will all our power be copied to the Abyss?" Sophia quietly asked Agnes, who was sitting to the side watching.

Sophia and Agnes were both elves, so they were from the same hometown and had heard of each other before, so they quickly became acquainted.

“Yes, all of it, and the power of our creator god.” Agnes turned to look at Sophia and nodded.

Sophia clenched her fist: "It seems I'll have to work hard to marry Abyss. My power would definitely be very useful if I could give it to him."

Agnes tilted her head, looking very curious about how Sophia planned to make her efforts.

While the girls over there were discussing things, something new was happening in the Abyss.

A bright sphere of light appeared out of thin air in front of him and hovered there, while the girls could not see this suddenly appearing sphere of light.

"Ding, new host detected, reading host name... Reading failed... Please inform the host."

Abyss raised an eyebrow. So this was the system Rebecca's ancestor possessed; it was different from Leona's ancestor's system. This system even had an image.

“Name…” Abyss thought seriously for a while, “Let’s call him ‘Defeat the Creator God’.”

"Your name contains a prohibited word. Please do not include the Creator God in your name." The orb of light immediately rejected Abyss's idea.

"So many rules?" Abis thought for a moment, "Then I'll call it 'Down with the guy whose name is a forbidden word'."

"Your name is 'Defeat the Guy Whose Name is a Forbidden Word,' are you sure you want to use this name?"

“I’m sure,” Abis nodded with a smile.

"Your name has been registered. Welcome to the Super Technology System. Please call me Assistant. Destroy that guy whose name contains a prohibited word. The system is currently unable to connect to the network and is in offline mode. Please find a way to contact the Creator God, connect to the network, and unlock all the functions of this system."
