“Ah, it’s alright. We’re probably not familiar with each other yet, so it’s perfectly normal for Miss Sophia to feel embarrassed.” Abis nodded smugly, showing no pride or embarrassment at making a girl he had just met blush.

"Sophia, let's go check on Donna and Lillian."

The best way to overcome shyness is to get down to business, and Edvina also helped her good friend get out of her nervous state.

"Yes, on the way, Miss Sophia, please tell us about your previous experiences. Everyone is very concerned about what kind of battle you went through with the Lord of Delusion. I will also try to take your body back from the Lord of Delusion based on the information you provide."

“Hmm… okay!” Sophia became serious upon hearing the words of her two best friends. She nodded with pursed lips, then said to Abyss, “If possible, I hope Mr. Bellator can help me get rid of this scourge, the Lord of Delusions.”

“I couldn’t ask for more.” Abyss smiled slightly. He had never intended to keep the Lord of Delusion alive from the beginning.

Led by Rebecca, the group headed toward the place where the three evil god puppets were placed.

On the way, Sophia also recounted her previous experience fighting against the Lord of Delusion.

“Since Edvina has already told everyone about what we went through together, I won’t go into detail. I’ll just tell you what happened after I said goodbye to Edvina.” She gradually recalled her memories, which had become somewhat distant over the past forty years, and began her narration.

"At that time, after Donna and Lillian were controlled by the Lord of Delusion, Edvina and I managed to escape. I felt that I had to rescue my companions, so I took the two daggers that my grandfather left me, and with Edvina as my backup to cover my retreat, I went alone to the location of the Lord of Delusion."

"I originally thought it would take some time to find this guy, but when I arrived at the building where the Lord of Delusion was, I found that he was already waiting there with Donna and Lillian, as if they had been waiting for me for a long time."

“I wasn’t sure what to do, but the two daggers my grandfather left me were always very useful. I used them to pierce Donna and Lillian’s bodies, pinning them to the ground since they were already controlled by the Lord of Delusion. They really stopped moving. And after this seemingly simple operation, I was face to face with the Lord of Delusion.”

"Although the Lord of Delusion is an evil god, he seemed hesitant and timid when fighting me. It was as if he was restricted by something and dared not directly harm me, yet he did not want me to have an easy time. My World Rift and Magic Dagger are not to be trifled with either. Soon, I found the Lord of Delusion's weakness and prepared to launch the final blow."

"You discovered the Lord of Delusion's weakness?" Rebecca looked at Sophia with some surprise and asked, "Can you tell us?"

“No… I’ll continue, and you’ll understand.” Sophia gave a wry smile. “I stabbed the Lord of Delusion in the eye, his weak point. After I hit him, he began to scream, and a large amount of energy leaked out of his body. That’s how I defeated him.”

"And as He was dying, He was convulsing on the ground, asking me why I had gone back to kill Him."

Sofia's expression was somewhat conflicted. She remained silent for a while before speaking.

“I told Him that I was doing this to save my two companions. After I finished, I even struck a really cool pose.”

Upon hearing this, Abyss and his group realized exactly why Sophia had fallen for the Lord of Delusion's trick that day.

"Yes, that guy's weakness wasn't his eyes at all. The horrific scene after I stabbed him was just an act. His acting was too good. I haven't experienced much failure growing up, so I naturally assumed he had been defeated. Who knew he was just trying to trick me into revealing my wish—from that moment on, a contract was formed between us."

“So that’s how it is… It really does resemble you… You’ve always loved showing off since you were little…” Edvina looked at Sophia speechlessly. However, she didn’t mean to blame her. After all, it’s impossible for an ordinary person to be on guard against someone as cunning and unscrupulous as the Lord of Delusion.

"Sigh... I regret it so much," Sophia sighed heavily.

"It's okay, you don't need to be sad, because I'm much more naive than you! You'll see when we become partners!" Leona patted her chest confidently, saying things that seemed like she was trying to comfort Sophia but were completely ineffective.

"Ahem... Continue. After I said that, I began to feel as if some kind of obsession had been implanted into my mind, and my body started to become a little disobedient. Realizing this, I immediately realized that I had fallen into the trap of that treacherous Lord of Delusion. Before my soul was corrupted like Donna and Lillian's, I took a step—using my own mental strength, I forcibly separated the uncorrupted part of my soul and immediately slipped into the cracks of the world to escape the Lord of Delusion."

"Is this why you survived in the cracks of the world and weren't completely controlled by the Lord of Delusion..." Abyss stroked his chin, looking at Sophia with an approving gaze. "What you did was quite clever. If you hadn't reacted then, we would probably be fighting against your complete form now, and our chances of winning wouldn't have been very high."

The Abyss is no exaggeration. If Sophia is completely under control, then Edvina cannot use the last vestiges of sanity remaining in Sophia's body to restrict her actions. A powerful assassin with no constraints, living in darkness, fighting only for the evil god, killing the Abyss is probably only a matter of time.

Chapter 190 The Method to Lift the Curse

“After that, I have been hiding in the cracks between worlds. The Lord of Delusion does not have the ability to travel between worlds at will—I think that’s probably it—and has never corrupted the part of my soul that I urgently separated. I waited here for more than forty years, and finally could not bear the long wait any longer. I felt that I should provide Edvina with some clues, so I tried to use some methods that I had previously learned to influence the real world from the cracks between worlds to pass some information to Edvina.”

Sofia spoke, glancing at Edvina beside her. Her eyes held a look of relief. Her dear friend Edvina hadn't let her down; she had indeed set off to rescue her and her two other sisters after obtaining the clues.

"A method to connect with the outside world from within the cracks of the world? Can I learn it?" Abyss's curiosity was piqued again, and he moved closer to Sophia, bypassing Rebecca and Leona who were separating him from her.

Sophia's face immediately flushed red again, and she shrank back towards Edvina: "Ah... um... this method isn't magic... it should... it should be some kind of talent of mine... you probably can't learn it..."

"Ah, that's such a shame." Abyss returned to his previous position.

“Then, I wandered around in the cracks between worlds for a while, and sure enough, Edvina came to rescue me with Mr. Bellator. I can’t go back to my original world yet, because the influence of the Lord of Delusion is still there, and I would inevitably be corrupted if I went back,” Sophia sighed. “There’s nothing I can do to help right now.”

"What do you know about lifting the curse of the Lord of Delusions?" Abyss then took two more steps closer to Sophia.

"Ah... um... I... don't..." As Abyss approached, Sophia's face turned red as if it were a magical radar that sensed someone's approach, and she stammered, unable to speak.

Leona slapped Abyss's leg: "What are you doing? Talk to me properly and stop hanging around Sophia!"

"Okay." Abyss shrank back again.

Sophia then spoke up: "Ah... if we're talking about methods to lift the curse of the Lord of Delusion, I don't actually know much about them. But before my body was corrupted by the Lord of Delusion, I experienced a strong obsession, a very extreme one. It was the same as what I told the Lord of Delusion back then, that I wanted to save my companions. Perhaps I will continue to have that obsession until I save Donna and Lillian."

“Hmm… so Rebecca’s experimental approach might actually have been correct.” Abyss nodded, looked at Rebecca, and said, “By the way, speaking of your experiment, how is Bothers doing?”

Rebecca sighed with a wry smile when she heard Abyss mention Bothers.

"Bothers... He's much quieter now, but the curse of the Lord of Delusion is truly powerful. I haven't yet found a way to completely shake the curse of the Lord of Delusion."

“You just said that it’s not completely finished yet…” Abyss immediately understood the implication in Rebecca’s words.

“Yes, that’s right. I’m currently conducting another experiment. I’ve also carefully studied Starr’s notes that you dug up from the ground before. Since Starr believes that the Lord of Delusions doesn’t eat, I have a new idea,” Rebecca said with a smile. “Do you remember what Bothers wished for back then?”

Abyss certainly remembered Bothers's wish. This old man, who loved listening to stories, had gone astray in his attempt to get his wife to reveal her past, a past she had always refused to talk about. He had become a puppet of the Lord of Delusion. His wish was to hear his wife tell him her story. And his wife did tell him the story, but not in the way he had dreamed of. Instead, she told it in a horrific and devastating way—she was tortured to death, revealing it only before she died.

“I remember you said you believed that Bothers’ wife’s soul was still alive?” Abyss suddenly realized.

“Yes, since the Lord of Delusion doesn’t need to eat, it’s possible that He didn’t devour the souls of those killed by Bothers, but hid them somewhere.” Rebecca nodded and said, “I asked a few people to help me search Dragon’s Nest City. They haven’t found anything yet, but we should at least try.”

“Yes, that’s good. If this really helps rescue Bothers, then we might be able to rescue Donna and Lillian in the same way.” Abyss was very supportive of Rebecca’s current attempt. “Although Donna and Lillian’s wish is to kill the Lord of Delusion, that wish might be a little difficult to fulfill.”

“Hmm… If Sophia wants to break the curse, she has to rescue Donna and Lillian. If Donna and Lillian want to break the curse, they have to kill the Lord of Delusion…” Leona thought for a moment, counting on her fingers, then looked up. “This is so difficult.”

"I'll figure something out slowly. Leave these things to me." Abis patted Leona's head.

As they spoke, Abyss and his party arrived at their destination: the place where Bothers was imprisoned and where Lillian and Donna were housed. Nightfall City had no law enforcement, and naturally, no prison. This place was a temporary conversion. The room where Lillian and Donna were staying was actually quite comfortable; it was just that because Bothers had completely broken down and was extremely destructive, a cell with stone walls and stone furniture had been specially designed for him.

Sophia was led by Edvina and several of Abyss's retinue to see Donna and Lillian. Sophia had risked her life to save these two close friends years ago, and naturally missed them dearly.

Abyss, on the other hand, temporarily separated from Sophia and the others, and went with Rebecca to see Bothers, who was still being held captive.

Upon entering Bothers's cell, one sees a huge iron cage. This cage was made with the best forging techniques and was very sturdy, but the bars were covered with various scratches, and there were even teeth marks on some of the welds.

Bothers was sitting in his cell with his back to the door, writing and drawing in a notebook.

Judging from the way he holds the pen, you can tell he's scribbling like crazy again. Having plenty of notebooks and pens is the only way to stop him from going mad.

“The story…the story…” Bothers’s somewhat hoarse whisper sounded rather eerie.

“Look, he’s still the same. The curse of the Lord of Delusion has a truly deep-rooted corrosive effect on people’s minds.” Rebecca sighed.

Abyss frowned and looked at Bothers for a while before saying, "What's the name of the person you asked to search for Bothers' wife's soul? Let's contact them and see what happens."

Chapter 191 Casually Stealing Some Military Secrets

"Hey, Master Abyss, we're all inside Dragon's Nest City right now. We all sneaked in disguised, and nobody's noticed!"

Abyss quickly made contact with several of her men, whom she had commissioned to search for the soul of Bothers' wife in Dragon's Nest, through Rebecca's introduction. These men were no ordinary individuals; they were all powerful con artists or detectives, perfectly suited for this mission.

Previously, Rebecca conducted her research in isolation, with only Lanis as her assistant, to avoid harming others. But Rebecca is different now. With a reliable team, she has become a research leader with exceptional leadership and personnel management skills. And the talent she has chosen this time is absolutely perfect.

“Well, all of you should keep a low profile. Is there any progress in the search?” Abis asked.

From the other side of the necromancy link came a cacophony of replies from the minions.

"No, there are no cemeteries in Dragon's Nest City. All the residents here are buried in a scenic cemetery in the suburbs."

"Nothing found. I just went to Bothers' house, but still no luck—oh, right, Dragon's Nest should have discovered he's missing. His house is being sold, but it seems no one's interested."

"I also used magic to walk through the streets, but so far I haven't found anything."

"Me too……"

Abyss listened quietly as all his subordinates reported the less-than-optimistic situation to him, then smiled slightly and said to them, "So, do you all have maps of Dragon's Nest now?"

“Yes, yes, before we left, Director Rebecca gave each of us a detailed map of Dragon's Nest,” one of the subordinates replied.

Rebecca has now been elected as the director of the "Eternal Night City Alchemy and Magic Research Institute" by all the researchers in the city, which is why some people call her the director.

“Very good. Now, find a relatively safe place and prepare to record a few locations,” Abis calmly instructed.

None of his subordinates raised any objections. They found an inconspicuous spot and opened the map.

Once all his men were in position, Abyss began to describe several locations on Dragon's Nest.

"Pay attention to the scale of your map. The corner 100 meters east of the west gate of Dragon's Nest, then 120 meters north; the alley 140 meters southwest of the east gate at a 45-degree angle; 260 meters south of the second mage tower from the left in the northwest corner of the city..."

Abyss, without consulting any documents, recited several locations from memory. His men, of course, noted them all down on their respective maps.

"Master Abyss, what exactly are these locations? Are we sure we can find them just by searching here?" one of his subordinates asked Abyss, unable to contain his curiosity.

Abis laughed and said, "Of course I can't guarantee that. Even if you search according to the points I marked, you can't be 100% sure of finding the target. However, these places might increase your chances of finding it."

How did you know these places existed?

"These places are the magical convergence points of Dragon's Nest. I suspect that the reason you can't find the souls of Bothers' wife and the other victims is that although their souls weren't devoured by the Lord of Delusion, they were severely damaged and entered another unusual state of rest. Therefore, your detection magic needs to get very close to find them. And severely damaged souls, before finding peace, will instinctively seek out places with abundant magical energy to slumber in order to alleviate the pain caused by the incompleteness of their souls."

The Abyss knows the undead best, and he is familiar with a special kind of undead. These undead suffer severe damage to their souls at the time of death for various reasons, and become disoriented and confused after their souls leave their bodies. These severely damaged souls are difficult to sense and recall using ordinary necromancy, which may explain why the Abyss hadn't discovered the soul of Bothers' wife before.

The magical convergence points in Dragon's Nest were ones he had silently memorized during his previous visit. While it wasn't incredibly easy for a mage of his level to perceive the magic in Dragon's Nest, it still didn't require much effort. As a mage, it was normal to observe the local magical situation upon arrival, but Abyss's perception range and memory were somewhat abnormal.

"Understood, we'll split up and search!" The men immediately understood Abyss's meaning.

These subordinates could also communicate with each other through telepathy, and quickly assigned tasks to one another, each heading to different areas of Dragon's Nest to search for the soul of Bothers' wife. This search would be much more meticulous; in order to find damaged souls that were difficult to detect, the subordinates would conduct a thorough search.

"You actually memorized the magic convergence point of Dragon's Nest?" Rebecca looked at Abyss with some surprise. "This is vital information for the capital of a country. If Emperor Campbell finds out about this, won't he give the mages in charge of defense a severe beating?"

“No, I guess Emperor Campbell probably already anticipated my strength, which is why he has always been friendly and never tried to intimidate me,” Abys said with a relaxed shrug and a smile.

The two men sat outside Bothers's cage, slowly waiting for their men to bring back news. Waiting for external events to unfold inside Helheim was always slow, given the tenfold difference in the flow of time between the two locations.

A little while later, Sophia, along with the other members of Abyss's retinue, met her good sisters Donna and Lillian, and then went to the room where Bothers was imprisoned.

Bothers was muttering and scribbling to himself, but when he heard many people coming in, he seemed to be disturbed. The old man, whose mind had been corrupted by the Lord of Delusion, suddenly turned around, grabbed the iron bars with both hands, stared wide-eyed, and began to shake them vigorously.

"A story! A story! I want a story! Give me a story! Everyone! Ahhhhh!"

“Don’t rush, don’t rush, we might really have a story to tell you in a little while,” Abyss said to Bothers, completely unhurried.

After observing the crazed Bothers for a while with mixed feelings, a surprised voice suddenly came from the necromancy link of the Abyss.

“Master Abyss! I’ve succeeded! I’ve succeeded! I’ve found the incomplete soul of an old woman in the place I was assigned, as well as several other people, all of whom have incomplete souls! I’ll bring them back to you now!”
