"Reina, who never grows up."
At the end of the article, there was an ugly crying face. That crying face was the one I drew for Orange that day. Rena proudly said that the crying face was drawn according to Itsuki's template, and even asked if it looked like her.
After reading the short letter, Yi Yue's eyes gradually welled up with tears. She looked up at the ceiling and blinked frantically.
Chapter 103 A Letter to the Child
After reading the letter, Xingzi's mother's expression changed slightly. She took the letter to the drawer, crumpled it into a ball, and put it into her pocket.
The teacher on the podium said, "Everyone has almost finished reading. Parents, please also write a letter to your children. It can be your expectations for them, or something you've been wanting to say for a long time. There's no word limit. After you finish writing, we won't give it to your children immediately. Instead, we'll give it to them after the final exams in the third year of junior high. Let's see if they have met your expectations."
As the envelopes, paper, and pens on the teacher's desk were distributed, each parent pondered what to write.
Yi Yue took the paper and pen and slowly began to write.
Yi Yue wrote: "You always say that I am a chatterbox and a preacher. You don't like me talking to you, but you're afraid that I don't love you enough."
“You are a very smart child. But it is this very cleverness that often leaves your father feeling helpless.”
"If I didn't care about you, why would I say such things?"
"No one knows the faults of their own child, nor the potential for a successful seedling."
"People often say that parents who spoil their children often fail to see their children's shortcomings; farmers who grow crops always feel that their crops are not plentiful enough."
"If your father often praises you, or doesn't remind you, you might become lazy and slack off because of your cleverness and go astray."
Do you remember a bedtime story I told you when you were little?
“A child stole something from his classmate. When his mother found out, instead of scolding him, she praised him. He became even more brazen and stole bigger and bigger things. In the end, he committed a big crime and was arrested. When he was arrested, he begged the police to let him say one last thing to his mother.”
"When Mom came over, the child said, 'It's all your fault,' and then bit Mom's ear so hard that he actually bit it off."
"Although the child is unreasonable, his mother also bears responsibility. If she had severely beaten and scolded him the first time he stole, would things have turned out this way?"
“You’re a sensible child, I’ve always known that, but your cleverness sometimes leaves your dad feeling helpless.”
"I just hope that you will be down-to-earth, serious, and focus on your studies, and become independent and self-reliant."
"The thing that Dad fears most is the day when he can no longer lecture you."
After writing, Yi Yue's eyes slowly welled up with tears. She folded the paper in half and put it into the envelope.
Many parents wrote a few casual words and put the letter in the envelope. Only a few parents wrote as much as Yi Yue did.
Anzu's mother wrote only a few lines before putting the paper in the envelope. Seeing that Izuki looked downcast and had written a lot, she said, "You love your child very much, don't you?"
“Yes, what parent doesn’t love their child?” Yi Yue forced a smile.
Kyoko's mother looked a little strange, but quickly recovered and agreed, "Yes, yes." She then suggested, "I wonder if Reina's father is free later? After the parent-teacher meeting, let's go to the coffee shop near the school gate."
Xingzi's mother smiled, blinked, and looked at Yiyue. Her beautiful eyes were like a pool of clear water, where a feather fell and rippled slightly.
"No, I have something to do tonight," Yi Yue politely declined.
"Oh, I see. Let's chat again sometime." Kyoko's mother smiled at Izuki.
……
After the parent-teacher meeting, Yi Yue found her homeroom teacher and chatted with her for a long time in the hallway.
“If Rena misbehaves at school, the teacher must notify me,” Izuki said.
The teacher said expressionlessly, "Don't worry."
Izuki added, "Rena is rather mischievous, so I'm sorry to trouble you, teacher." As she spoke, she secretly slipped something to the teacher.
The teacher took it, and her stern face softened into a smile: "This is what we should do."
"Teacher, Rena is a little nearsighted, about the seating arrangement..."
"Your eyesight is poor, you need to get glasses. This won't do. Don't move, and remember to get your glasses," the teacher said sternly.
Yi Yue nodded and said, "Yes, I will. I'll go get it done as soon as the holiday starts. Teacher, I'll be going now."
"Ah."
Izuki turned and left, walking along the road, sighing, "You need to study hard, Reina."
Go to the bookstore to buy Rena's summer homework.
Passing by a barbecue restaurant, I figured Rena and the others must be a little hungry, so I went in to buy some barbecue.
The shop assistant asked, "What would you like?"
"Give me two cups of cucumber juice, three skewers of sausage and meatballs, two skewers of grilled squid, and two skewers of bacon."
"Is there any more?" the clerk asked.
Yi Yue stared at the meat skewers in the glass cabinet, lost in thought, as if recalling something.
"Sir? Would you like something else, sir?" the clerk asked, raising his voice.
"Two more skewers of fried chicken legs, please," Yi Yue said.
The clerk nodded, and Yi Yue suddenly said, "No, take another skewer of fried chicken."
The shop assistant gave Yi Yue a strange look and wrote it down: "Is there any more?"
Yi Yue shook her head. "That's all." She muttered to herself, "I also want to try what chicken legs taste like."
……
When Yi Yue got home, she saw that the dirty dishes in the sink were all washed clean, the food in the refrigerator was sealed with plastic wrap, and the table was wiped clean.
"Did Yixue make it?" Yiyue walked into Yixue's room.
"Yes, Daddy, I'm a good girl, right?" Yixue said sweetly, hugging Yiyue and gently rubbing her little face against her.
"Good girl." Yi Yue patted Yi Xue's head and placed some barbecue and cucumber juice on Yi Xue's table.
"Thank you, Dad," Yixue said. "But I'm not hungry, you eat too."
"No need," Yi Yue said. "You can eat." Looking at the well-behaved Yi Xue, she thought to herself, "When will Reina be this sensible?"
He went to Rena's room, carrying barbecue in one hand and summer homework in the other, his hands behind his back so they weren't showing, and joked with Rena, "Rena, look what I bought for you?"
"It's delicious!" Rena exclaimed excitedly, her eyes shining.
"Summer homework!" Yi Yue took out her homework.
Rena immediately deflated, like a dejected kitten: "What? Daddy is so mean and boring."
"Haha, eat up." Yi Yue took out some barbecue from her other hand.
Rena cheered herself up, quickly snatched the barbecue bag, and said with a grin, "I knew Daddy wasn't that bored. Daddy's the best!" She couldn't wait to start eating.
Watching Rena happily eating, Itsuki stood quietly to the side, smiling, thinking to herself, "Actually, it's quite nice that Rena is like this."
"Dad, you eat too!" Reina thoughtfully handed Izuki a chicken leg.
"Okay." Yi Yue smiled and accepted it.
"Is it good?" Rena asked, watching Izuki take a bite.
"It's delicious." Yiyue said.
Rena chuckled and said, "It got my saliva on it."
Izuki was taken aback. Reina pointed at Izuki and laughed, "You're lying to Daddy. You look so funny." She stuck out her tongue and muttered, "Reina's saliva isn't bad. What's with that expression?"
Yi Yue smiled helplessly and shook her head. It seemed necessary to take back what she had said.
Chapter 104 Birthday
Today is Rena's birthday, so I invited Lili and Anzu to come over for a visit.
"Happy birthday, Reina (older sister)." Kyoko and Riri both wished Reina a happy birthday in unison.
"Haha." Rena laughed happily, revealing her little tiger teeth.
"Rena, shouldn't you invite more classmates?" Izuki made a big cake; a few people probably couldn't finish it.
"No need, why bother calling anyone else? It's enough that Kyoko is here," Rena grumbled, seemingly not getting along well with the other classmates.
"Rena, this is a gift for you." Kyoko handed Rena a box of chocolates tied with a pink ribbon.
Kyoko said shyly, "I didn't know what to give Rena, so I just gave her chocolate."
These are chocolates that Xingzi's father brought back from abroad. She couldn't bear to eat them and has kept them until now.
"It's alright, I happen to like chocolate too," Rena said with a smile.
Lili handed Rena a picture of an orange with a smiley face drawn on it: "Here, Rena, I drew this especially for you! Be like this orange and always have a smile on your face."
"Thank you." Rena patted Kyoko's little head.
Yixue gave Lingna a gold fountain pen, saying, "This is for you, little sister. I hope you study hard and read your books diligently." A playful smile appeared on her face.
Rena puffed out her cheeks and scoffed unhappily.
"You two chat, I'm going to cook." Yi Yue went to the kitchen to make lunch, and she made a lot of dishes, which took her almost two hours.
I went out into the living room and saw them sitting on the floor, each with a deck of cards in front of them, playing a game.
“Daddy’s coming to play too!” Rena said.
"What do you want to play?" Yi Yue walked over.
Reina and the others were playing the King's Game, but it hadn't started yet. Yixue explained the general rules of the game to Yiyue.
Including Yi Yue, there are five people in total. There are five playing cards, numbered one through four, plus a Joker.
The person who draws the King becomes the King and can command players number one through four to do anything once.
Of course, players number one through four are anonymous and don't need to reveal their numbers. The king doesn't know who players one through four are, thus maintaining the fairness of the game.
"Dad, is there anything you don't understand?" Yixue asked with a smile. If there was anything Yiyue didn't understand, she would explain it until Yiyue understood.
“That’s all,” Yi Yue said.
