Chapter Seventy-Seven Horror Movies

"I've been a bit busy lately, let's bring Lili over to play another day," Xia Hong said tactfully, then said sternly to Lili, "Go back after dinner!" She turned to smile at Yi Yue and the others.

Lili lowered her head. Although she knew her mother wouldn't let her stay overnight, she was still very sad and gave a disappointed "oh".

Rena couldn't bear to see Lili so sad, so she said to Xia Hong, "Aunt, could Lili stay here for the night? Just to keep me company."

Xia Hong said apologetically, "I've been really busy lately. How about I bring Lili over to play with you more often from now on?"

Reina felt that Xia Hong was lying and just giving her a perfunctory answer. A little angry, she wanted to say, "Auntie is lying; she definitely won't bring Lili over again after she goes home!"

But before he could say it, he was stopped by Izuki's gaze.

“Hmm…” Rena lowered her head in grievance and muttered softly, “It was clearly my aunt who lied.”

Yi Yue said to Xia Hong, "Why don't we let Lili play a little longer? My second daughter is young and doesn't have much in common with my eldest daughter. It'll be good for her to have a companion. Let the child play a little longer, and I'll take her home tonight. I can rest assured, right?"

“This…” Xia Hong hesitated, “Alright then.” She said to Lili, “Be good at your cousin’s house, don’t stay out too late, okay?” She checked the time, “It’s almost seven o’clock now, you have to be back before nine!” She smiled at Yi Yue, “Thank you for your trouble. I have a lot of things to do. After dinner, I have to go to my husband’s workplace to help out, so I really can’t get away. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have troubled you, cousin.”

Hearing that Lili wanted to stay at her house to play a little longer, Rena was so happy she almost jumped up and shouted, "Yay!"

Suddenly noticing that Yi Yue and Xia Hong were both looking at her, she blushed, pursed her lips, and lowered her head shyly.

"Haha, my daughter likes having company, look how happy she is," Yi Yue said with a smile, speaking to Xia Hong.

Reina stuck out her tongue.

Xia Hong smiled and said, "It's a good thing for children to be lively." She then said to Lili, "You must get along well with your older sister, okay?"

"Okay." Lili nodded. Although Xia Hong had promised her to play a little longer, she was still a little disappointed that she wouldn't be staying overnight at Yi Yue's house.

Xia Hong stood up, preparing to leave.

Yi Yue said, "Are we leaving so early? Won't you eat more?"

"No, I have other things to do. I'll leave Lili in your care. Don't let her stay out too late," Xia Hong said.

"Okay, don't worry. I'll see you off." Yi Yue got up and walked Xia Hong for a while, leaving Ling Nai and the other two at the dining table.

"We can play a little longer!" Rena cheered and smiled at Lili.

Lili made an "oh" sound, sounding somewhat unhappy.

"What's wrong?" Rena asked. "Why are you unhappy?"

“I thought I could stay at my brother’s house for one night,” Lili said.

"You mean this? What's there to be unhappy about? There will be other opportunities in the future, won't there?" Rena said.

Lili seemed to be infected by Rena's optimism and nodded, "Yes, there will be another chance to visit Rena's house next time."

"Don't worry. If your mom doesn't allow it, I'll ask my dad to come pick you up. My dad is a very nice person, he'll definitely let you have his way. Your parents will definitely give him face if my dad comes to pick you up," Rena said confidently.

"Thank you, Rena-neechan." Lili was touched.

"What's the big deal?" Rena said, beaming with joy. Suddenly remembering something, she stuck out her tongue and said, "Your mom was so fierce when she told you to go home after you finished eating. She must be fierce like that at home all the time."

"No, not really," Lili said. "My mom is a really nice person, she's just a bit strict with me."

"That's good, huh?" Rena grumbled. "My mom has never been this mean to me before." Rena looked a little disappointed when she mentioned her mother.

"By the way, where is Rena's mother?" Lili asked.

Rena said dejectedly, "My mother is abroad and hasn't come back for more than half a year." There was a hint of resentment in her tone.

"I see." Seeing that Rena was unhappy, Lili didn't bring up the topic again.

"Mom?" Yi Xue, who hadn't spoken for a long time, quietly picked up the dirty bowl and put it in the sink. The image of the woman with golden hair unconsciously appeared in her mind.

……

The living room was completely dark, with only the light from the television set.

Rena and Lili were so frightened they almost clung to each other, their eyes glued to the television screen. On the screen was a horror movie, a malevolent spirit about to kill the protagonist's companion.

Just as the film reached its climax, footsteps were heard coming from the stairwell.

"Who!" Rena cried out in fear. Lili clung tightly to Rena, hiding behind her.

With a "click," the light was switched on, illuminating the entire living room.

"What are you doing? Why aren't the lights on?" Yi Yue asked, puzzled. "And why are you shouting so loudly?" He happened to come down for a drink of water and stumbled upon this scene.

"Phew..." Rena breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, it was Dad. He didn't make a sound. He's so quiet, he could scare you to death!"

Lili was startled and remained silent, nodding as she hugged Rena's back.

“You’re watching a horror movie?” Yi Yue noticed the TV screen. “Don’t jump around like that. If you’re scared, just turn on the lights.”

"Who, who's afraid!" Rena gritted her teeth and retorted defiantly.

"Not scared? Then who was shouting so loudly just now?" Yi Yue asked.

"I...how would I know!" Rena said, blushing. "Anyway, it wasn't me!"

Izuki smiled, while Reina blushed even more and glared angrily at Izuki.

Izuki, intrigued by the horror movie, sat down next to Rena.

He rarely watches horror movies, but apart from those scenes that deliberately startle you, he is generally not afraid and even enjoys watching them.

Rena was terrified and hugged Izuki tightly.

Izuki felt a little uncomfortable being hugged, but seeing Rena's pale face, she didn't say anything and let her hug her.

Lili closed her eyes, not daring to look, and covered her ears with her hands.

Finally, after another long thirty minutes, the movie ended. Rena breathed a deep sigh of relief, and Itsuki said, "You can let go now, it was uncomfortable for me to be hugged like that."

Rena's face flushed red, and she immediately let go, stammering, "I...I wasn't scared."

"Mmm." Izuki nodded perfunctorily. Rena's face grew redder and redder, and she bit Izuki's shoulder hard. "You're so mean! You stinky daddy!" She said she bit hard, but she didn't use much force when she bit, and her saliva got on Izuki's shoulder.

"Alright." Itsuki sighed and patted Rena's head, as if it were a common occurrence.

Lili blinked her eyes and, imitating Reina, also bit Izuki's shoulder.

"Hmm, Lili, what are you doing?" Yiyue asked curiously.

Lili bit Yiyue's shoulder and mumbled, "Like what Reina-neechan just did, do you think it looks like her? Hehe."

Rena's face was flushed and steaming.

Chapter Seventy-Eight: Smiling Faces in the Trash Can

After watching the horror movie, it was getting late. Yi Yue drove Li Li home, and worried about Li Li going upstairs alone, she went up with her and escorted her home.

"Cousin, thank you so much for your help," Xia Hong said, opening the door. "Come in and have a seat."

"No need, it's too late. Let's sit down another time. I'll head back now," Yi Yue said.

Lili said, "Goodbye, Uncle."

"Okay, goodbye." Yi Yue smiled and said goodbye before going downstairs.

Lili's gaze seemed to follow him downstairs, staring intently at the stairwell.

"Why aren't you coming in yet?" Xia Hong said to Lili, who was in a daze, her tone a little unpleasant, as she felt she had disturbed Yi Yue.

Lili came in, holding an orange that Yiyue had drawn a smiley face on.

Xia Hong noticed the orange in Lili's hand: "What are you doing holding that orange? Why aren't you eating it?" Seeing the orange, she smiled and said, "Just eat it! Why are you smearing it on me!"

Lili didn't speak, standing to one side. Lili's father sat on the sofa reading the newspaper. He had just returned, legs crossed, unshaven, looking extremely tired.

"Don't be so disrespectful in the future, embarrassing your relatives and friends!" Xia Hong scolded Lili. "Look at how polite Yixue is. Why can't you learn from others' good qualities instead of their bad ones?"

Each grain felt incredibly wronged.

Lili's father glanced at Lili and chimed in, "The child is so disobedient! She doesn't know any better."

"No," Lili thought to herself, feeling wronged and on the verge of tears. Suddenly, she remembered Rena's smiling face and forced a smile, which looked even worse than crying.

"I'm going back to my room," Lili said, putting down the orange.

Originally, she planned to give this orange to her parents to say thank you for their hard work, but at this moment she could no longer say it.

Lili's dad was reading the newspaper when he got a little thirsty. He picked up an orange from the table, peeled it, ate it, and threw the peel into the trash can. The smiling face on the orange peel was broken into pieces, just like a girl's heart.

……

Late at night, Yi Yue woke up in bed because she was hot.

"It's so hot, it's so hot!" Yi Yue picked up the air conditioner remote and turned the temperature down. She pressed the buttons for a while, but the air conditioner didn't respond at all. Looking up, she noticed the power was off.

"Is the air conditioner broken, or is there a power outage?" Yi Yue turned on the desk lamp, but found that it didn't work either. Was there a power outage?

"Power outages in the summer are a nightmare," Yi Yue thought irritably, but she was too tired. She opened the window to let in some fresh air, lay down on the bed, and fell asleep. In her drowsy state, she suddenly heard a sound coming from the doorway.

Rena, clutching her pillow, tiptoed to close the door, walked to Izuki's side, and carefully slipped into Izuki's bed.

"what are you doing?"

"Ugh!" Rena cried out in fright, then realized it was Itsuki's voice.

"N-nothing, I just suddenly wanted to sleep with Daddy," Rena stammered.

Actually, she had watched a horror movie, and those terrifying scenes kept replaying in her mind. She was terrified and ran to Yiyue's room.

"The power's out, and it's so hot without air conditioning. Go back to your room and sleep." Yi Yue was half asleep, her eyelids drooping. She was too tired to talk.

"No!" Rena said, refusing to leave and staying on Itsuki's bed.

Izuki didn't bother with it anymore. Seeing that Izuki didn't say anything, Rena naturally went to sleep on Izuki's bed.

Lying on Yiyue's bed was fine at first, but then my mind started wandering again, and I even mistook the curtains that were being blown by the wind for ghosts.

"Waaah!" Rena cried out in fear, pulling the blanket over her head. After all, she was just a child.

Rena trembled with fear, slowly hugging Itsuki beside her, whispering, "Daddy, Daddy."

"Hmm?" Yi Yue hummed in a half-asleep state.
