The two of them interrupted each other, and the mood that had been gloomy because no one was lending them books gradually brightened up.
"Let's think about what to do now," Rena sighed, getting back to the main topic.
The most important issue now is the political textbooks.
"Why don't you just borrow from another class, Reina?" Kyoko suggested.
She thought Rena was very cute, and maybe she was a sucker for good looks, so she just lent Rena her political science book.
"Why should anyone lend it to me? My classmates won't lend it to me, let alone strangers from other classes," Rena sighed.
Xingzi thought about it and realized it made sense. Even her close classmates, whom she saw every day, wouldn't help her borrow it, let alone strangers she had never met.
Who would lend their book to a complete stranger?
"What should we do then?" Kyoko asked dejectedly.
"Sigh..." The two of them sighed in unison.
"If all else fails, why don't we call your dad and have him bring his political science books over?" Kyoko suggested.
Last time, she didn't bring her books, so she called her family to bring them over.
"Um, should I have Dad bring it over..." Rena hesitated, not wanting Itsuki to know that she hadn't brought the book.
If they found out, I'd definitely get a lecture from Yi Yue.
She didn't want to see Yi Yue's helpless and disappointed expression, or be lectured by him.
"Do you have a better way?"
Seeing that Rena was hesitant and seemed reluctant to call Izuki over, Kyoko immediately advised, "If you don't bring your politics book to politics class, you'll be in big trouble!"
Seeing that Rena didn't speak, he assumed she was worried about being scolded by Itsuki.
Remembering Yi Yue's gentle smile and soft words to her that day, Xingzi blushed slightly and said, "Your father is a very nice person, he probably won't say anything to you, right?"
"They definitely won't say anything to me, but I just don't want them to!" Rena muttered to herself, then said to Kyoko, "Why don't we wait a little longer? What if another way comes up?"
Chapter Forty-Six: Time
"Then you'd better hurry up," Xingzi reminded, glancing at the homeroom teacher on the podium.
The homeroom teacher sat on the podium grading math papers, ignoring the students making noise below.
But anyone who knows a math teacher knows that even though she's silent and seemingly indifferent now, once morning reading time is over and she's finished grading the papers, she's about to give the students in the class a good scolding.
“Class is about to start. How will you have a chance to call your dad during class? It will be too late after class.” After Kyoko said this, Rena no longer hesitated.
After all, she didn't want to be severely scolded by the teacher in front of the whole class, and then have to stand in the corridor for a whole class period as punishment.
Reina pursed her lips, stood up reluctantly, and prepared to lie to the homeroom teacher that she was going to the toilet, and then call Izuki from the toilet.
"Oh, right, Rena, remember to have your dad come to school around the time get out of class is almost over. Otherwise, the security guards won't let him in since it's not break time," Kyoko reminded her.
Last time her family brought her books, they were stopped at the door because it was during class time.
"Okay." Rena nodded, walked to the podium, and whispered to the homeroom teacher who was grading the papers, "Teacher, I have a bit of a stomachache, can I go to the toilet?"
The homeroom teacher looked up and glanced at Rena.
In Rena's eyes, the homeroom teacher was very fierce. This made Rena a little nervous.
"Hurry up. Class is about to start," the homeroom teacher said.
Reina felt as if she had been granted a pardon and immediately ran out of the classroom to the restroom on the floor below.
The restroom was empty, with only the sound of water rushing into the septic tank.
Rena took out her phone and dialed Izuki's number.
At home, Yi Yue was in her room, sitting in front of her computer, wearing a mask, with a headset on the table.
Yiyue hasn't streamed for a few days and wants to make up for it by doing some high-quality ASMR content for her fans.
Yi Yue held a perfume bottle half-filled with water in her hand, shaking it gently, intending to record an episode about cherry blossom alcohol.
Not long after the recording started, Rena called.
Yi Yue immediately paused the recording.
When Yi Yue makes videos, she always cuts out the parts she's not satisfied with in post-production. Incoming phone calls are insignificant; they can be removed during editing, so she doesn't worry about disturbing the viewers.
Izuki glanced at the caller ID; it was Rena calling. He wondered why Rena was calling him. Had something happened at school? He quickly answered, "Hello, Rena, what's wrong?"
"Dad, I... I forgot to bring my book," Rena said shyly in a low voice.
Yi Yue sighed helplessly: "I knew it."
He went into Rena's room in the morning to help her clean.
As soon as he went in, he saw that her blanket wasn't folded properly and was crumpled up under the pillow.
The books on the desk were scattered haphazardly, one here and one there.
Is this considered a girl's room?
Izuki felt helpless and was already planning to give Rena a good scolding when she got home.
"What book did you forget to bring?" Yi Yue asked.
Rena whispered, "Politics."
"Okay, I'll bring it to you later." Izuki nodded, deciding to put the video recording aside for now and deliver the book to Reina first.
"Don't rush, the political class isn't until the second period. Oh, and remember to get to school close to the end of get out of class, or the security guards won't let you in," Rena reminded her.
Yi Yue said helplessly, "I know."
He knew these things much better than Reina. He had originally been a teacher at this school.
"Hurry up and go back to class." Yi Yue glanced at the time; the morning reading session was over, and the first class was about to begin.
Yi Yue gave a final reminder: "Remember to pay attention in class and don't daydream!"
"Okay!" Rena replied and hung up the phone.
"Beep beep..." The beeping sound of the phone being hung up came from the phone.
Izuki sighed, "She's such a worry." She put her phone back in her pocket and went to Rena's room.
Rena's room was bright, clean, and tidy.
Izuki had come to Rena's room to tidy up this morning. The broom swept up a lot of trash, mostly cookie crumbs and dust.
They also opened the windows to let in the gentle sunlight.
Izuki walked up to Rena's desk.
The desk was spotless, wiped clean by Yi Yue with a cloth, so shiny it could reflect light and cast a shadow.
The pen holder and books on the table were arranged neatly.
Those books were all Rena's textbooks. The books from classes she didn't attend were all kept at home, piled up like a small mountain.
What used to be a mess has been neatly arranged, with the largest book at the bottom and the rest stacked from largest to smallest. The backs of the books face outwards for easy reference. When needed, they can be pulled out directly for a quick glance.
Yi Yue took out her political science book, placed it at the entrance, returned to her room, set her alarm, adjusted the time, and continued making the video.
Knowing full well that she wouldn't forget something so important, but just in case, Yi Yue still set a timer, afraid that she might forget it.
……
Rena hung up the phone and walked towards the classroom.
When I got to the classroom door, the math teacher had already finished grading the test papers and distributed them. She was now giving a lesson.
“Report!” Reina said, standing at the door.
The math teacher nodded, gesturing for Rena to come in.
Rena quickly returned to her seat.
"How is it?" Kyoko asked.
"Okay, that's fine." Rena nodded with a smile.
……
More than twenty minutes passed, and a little over half a class period had gone by.
Yi Yue turned off the alarm a minute before it was about to ring. She got up, picked up her politics book from the entryway, and drove to school.
There were few vehicles on the road; it wasn't rush hour. Yi Yue had a smooth journey and arrived at the school gate quickly.
After parking the car to the side, Yi Yue walked into the school gate.
The security guard in the security room at the entrance stopped Yi Yue.
There were only two security guards in the security room. One was a middle-aged man in his thirties, and the other was an elderly man in his sixties.
Both the elderly security guards and the middle-aged security guards knew Yiyue.
Izuki used to be a teacher here.
"You can't go in now," the old man said. "Come in and sit for a while."
"It's alright, I'll just wait outside for a while," Yi Yue said politely.
The elderly man glanced at the clock beside him: "There are still ten minutes until get out of class ends. Come in and sit for a while. We're already so familiar with each other, no need to be so polite."
"Well... okay." Yi Yue hesitated for a moment, then nodded and went into the security room.
The security room was air-conditioned and cool, a stark contrast to the sweltering heat outside.
The middle-aged man brought over a chair and let Yi Yue sit down.
"Thank you," Izuki said.
The elderly security guard said, "I can't do anything about it. School rules state that parents aren't allowed in during class, so I'm afraid you'll have to make do with sitting here for a while."
