The Chinese teacher walked into the classroom carrying a stack of dictation questions and roared angrily.
Rena's class is Class 1, and the office is right next door.
The students in the class were really too noisy; the Chinese teacher could hear them even in the office.
The class fell silent instantly, everyone staring at the Chinese teacher, not daring to utter a sound.
"With all this noise, don't the other classes need to have lessons?! You have absolutely no self-control!"
The Chinese teacher's cold gaze swept across the class before turning to Chen Yisi: "Class monitor, who were those people making noise just now? Did you write down their names?"
Chen Yisi didn't speak, but looked at the students below the podium. Many students were talking, and a few of the more aggressive students were winking at her, looking like they were begging.
"Uh." Chen Yisi hesitated. They were all classmates, and pointing it out individually would be too offensive.
After thinking it over, Chen Yisi said ambiguously in a low voice, "The classmates were all talking, but I didn't pay attention."
"Everyone's saying something, right?"
The Chinese teacher nodded coldly, ignoring the class monitor's next sentence, "You guys are something else. Is it because you have nothing to do, or you don't assign enough homework? Can't you learn independently? You only study when someone follows you around."
Although the Chinese teacher was nearly sixty years old, he was still terrifying when he got angry; his gaze swept over the students, and they all lowered their heads.
Although she wasn't the homeroom teacher, she was the grade leader, which was even more terrifying than a homeroom teacher. Nobody wanted to be targeted or treated unfairly.
"Yisi," the Chinese teacher called out, placing the dictation on the desk. "Distribute the dictation together with the group leader of Group Four."
"Oh." Yi Si immediately took the dictation and started dictating with the group leader of Group Four.
"I'll give you one last chance out of respect for our class monitor. If you make any more noise, you'll all have to copy the ancient poems from the textbook three times!"
The Chinese teacher said sternly, "Don't think I don't know what you're thinking. You're bullying the class monitor, aren't you? Even if she doesn't say anything, I know what's going on. I'm going to check your recitation later. If you can't recite it, you'll have to stay until after school to recite it! I can wait, don't think I'm joking." After saying that, she walked out of the classroom.
There are many classes with test papers, and time is really tight. We also need to go over the test content tomorrow, so the teacher really doesn't have time to waste here.
As for why it wasn't corrected in class...
She did it simply because grading in the office was faster, and moving so many exam papers around was too much trouble. She also wanted to see how independent the students were.
"You all heard that, keep your voices down," Chen Yisi said helplessly as she handed out dictation exercises. "Don't make the whole class copy ancient poems as punishment."
Several typical students lowered their heads and dared not utter a sound.
The dictation assignments were handed out one by one, and Rena received hers.
"96 points, only two wrong!"
Rena was overjoyed. Looking at the bright red 96 on her dictation, she couldn't wait to show it to Izuki and prove herself.
"Dad will be so happy to see that I got 96 points!"
Rena was very excited. She thought about how Izuki cried yesterday and looked a little disappointed in him. Now that she was showing him how well she did on her dictation test, he would definitely be very happy!
It was just a simple dictation exercise, but Rena felt incredibly happy, as if she had eaten honey.
"Oh no..."
Xingzi, who sat next to her deskmate, looked at her dictation and sighed.
"What's wrong?" Rena asked.
"Look, you got so many wrong." Kyoko showed Rena her dictation test, which was covered in circles and scribbles, with a bright red 63, and the teacher had written in red pen above it: "Did you review carefully at home???"
There are three question marks in total.
Rena comforted her, "It's okay." With a smile on her face, she showed Kyoko her dictation test results: "I got a 96, how's that? Pretty good, right?" She raised her eyebrows, hoping Kyoko would praise her.
"You," Kyoko said with a helpless smile, "very good. Reina's dad will definitely praise you when you get home."
"Of course!"
Kyoko's words struck a chord with Reina. Reina was so happy she wanted to jump for joy, "Daddy will definitely praise me! Oh, I'm so happy!"
"All you ever do is praise Yixue, but I'm amazing too!" Rena waved her little fist, her face beaming with a smile, like an innocent and adorable little sister.
I overheard the students sitting in front of and behind me complaining that they made too many mistakes in the dictation and were going to have to copy it all down.
Rena immediately chimed in, showing off her achievements. Raising her eyebrows, she was so proud of herself that she was almost jumping for joy.
"Rena really needs to change her temper." Kyoko sighed helplessly, smiling as she watched Rena's smug expression.
Rena's smug look doesn't make people dislike her; instead, it gives off a cute vibe, like a child showing off and wanting praise.
"Let Rena be happy for a while."
Xingzi smiled and picked up the book, preparing to recite it, when she caught a glimpse of the window next to her.
The Chinese teacher poked her head in through the window, turning around to see who had been talking all along.
"Reina..."
Kyoko was startled and dared not speak, not even daring to breathe. She could only secretly nudge Rena a few times under the table with her leg to remind her.
Several students who were about to talk or make some small movements were startled when they saw the Chinese teacher peeking in through the window. They trembled, lowered their heads, picked up their Chinese textbooks, and pretended to recite the text in a low voice.
Most of the students didn't notice the teacher and continued talking; some were even playing on their phones under the table.
The Chinese teacher's gaze lingered on several people before finally settling on Rena, who was still smiling.
"Rena, Rena!"
Xingzi grew anxious and strained her legs even harder, spitting out sounds through clenched teeth.
The teacher was standing by the window not far away, so I didn't dare to put too much pressure on my legs or raise my voice.
She's already a good friend. If it were any other classmate, they wouldn't dare breathe too loudly, let alone offer a word of advice, for fear of getting caught in the crossfire.
Chapter Nineteen is Different
"Yesterday, my dad made me copy it five times as punishment. That's why I did so well on the dictation test."
Reina proudly rubbed her little tiger teeth, showing them off to her classmates.
They were having a pleasant conversation when they suddenly heard Xingzi calling her name and rubbing her leg against her.
"Wait, I haven't finished yet," Rena said to Kyoko without turning her head.
“Ugh, Reina…” Kyoko was extremely anxious, but there was nothing she could do.
The Chinese teacher squinted and looked intently at the tables where Rena was talking, then glanced elsewhere before turning away and walking to the door.
"Oh no!" Kyoko closed her eyes and mourned for Rena.
"The most important thing right now is to quickly remind Rena to behave!"
Kyoko opened her eyes and nudged Rena's arm.
"What's wrong?" Rena asked curiously. "Is something the matter?"
"You know the Chinese teacher was watching us from the doorway just now!" Xingzi said, somewhat angrily.
Rena blinked. "Huh? Ah!" she exclaimed, startled. "No way!"
Seeing Rena's surprised and frightened expression, Kyoko's anger turned into helplessness: "What don't you know? I've reminded you several times. Even your Chinese teacher has glanced at you a few times."
"Ugh, then I'm doomed! Oh no, oh no!" Rena slumped down, dejected. Being targeted by the old witch meant she was definitely in for a rough time. She lay on the table, saying, "I can't be that unlucky, can I?"
As they were talking, the Chinese teacher stood at the door.
The class started off noisy, but gradually, everyone quieted down, as if a chain reaction had occurred, and suddenly it was completely silent, eerily so.
"Speak up, why don't you continue?"
The Chinese teacher said coldly, "I'd like to hear what you all have to say that you can talk for so long."
The students in the class didn't dare to speak, their heads bowed low.
"Speak up!" the Chinese teacher shouted. "Not going to say anything now?" She glanced at the class. "Fine, then I'll say it." She told the class monitor to return to his seat, stood on the podium, and said, "Chen Mingzhen, Lin Hao, Zhou Xin, hand in your things."
The three people the teacher called out trembled and dared not stand up.
"What? Do I have to ask you to get up, or should I go down and collect them myself?" The teacher raised an eyebrow, seeing that the three of them still had a glimmer of hope, and angrily went down to collect their belongings one by one.
Chen Mingzhen's photo was a celebrity magazine that he had shown to Rena before.
Lin Hao and Zhou Xin were secretly playing with their phones under the table.
"You have absolutely no self-control! Is this the kind of class you're in to show this stuff?!"
The teacher roared and slammed the magazine onto the podium with a loud thud. The three students turned pale and trembled like chicks.
"The three of you write a self-criticism and bring it to my office this afternoon. If you want your things back, your parents have to come and pick them up in person! Otherwise, you can keep your phones here for the summer vacation and I'll return them to you next semester."
The teacher was clearly angry. "I really don't understand how you all still have time to play on your phones. Do you think we're just elementary school kids who don't know any better? If you don't study hard now, it'll be too late later, you know that!"
Seeing that the students below were silent, the teacher became even angrier. Taking a deep breath, she calmly said, "You're all talking, do you all know it by heart? Then I'll punish you!"
"Lin Ying." The teacher called out a name. This was a student who had just spoken very impressively. "Recite 'Visiting Shanxi Village'."
Lin Ying shook her body, her head bowed very low.
"What, have you lost your tongue? Weren't you talking happily just now? Or do I need to remind you?"
The teacher sneered, "Tang Dynasty poet Lu You wrote, 'Don't laugh at the farmer's homemade wine and meat.' Now, recite this line!"
Lin Ying pursed his lips; he really couldn't memorize it.
"Go to the corridor! Come back in when you can recite it!" the teacher said angrily.
Lin Ying silently took her Chinese textbook and walked out.
"This is outrageous!" The teacher shook her head angrily and glanced at the class.
The students in the class kept their heads down, afraid that the teacher would call on them.
Rena quickly began to memorize the text, her mouth constantly reciting it to herself.
"The old witch will definitely slap me, I need to memorize it quickly, memorize it quickly!"
"Next, Zhu Ke." The teacher continued drawing names.
Needless to say, Zhu Ke definitely wouldn't memorize it.
Another student left, and the classmates began to panic.
