"I know! I think I've got it! Ellis! Give me a hand! Help me touch that plate on the other side of the table! Yes, that one! When I call you, flip it over!"
With a puzzled look on her face, Ellis ran to another stone platform and grasped the stone disc on it with both hands.
"Hmm! Hmm! Almost there! Iris! Rotate!!"
Just as Reno was running out of bullets, Brian finally gave the order. Upon hearing Brian's command, Elise pulled her hand away forcefully, and the stone disc in front of her slowly began to rotate.
"Boom... Boom!"
As Brian and Ellis moved, loud footsteps echoed from behind the gate, reaching everyone's ears. Realizing something might be about to happen, Brian decisively jumped off the stone platform, donned a camouflage net, and hid in a crevice in the rocks. The other three followed suit and found good hiding places.
"how......?"
As soon as Gagarn, who had vaguely sensed that something was about to happen, uttered his words, he swallowed the rest of his sentence, because the door had suddenly opened, and a huge statue that looked like a human woman, but was a perfect blend of grace and heroism, stepped out from it.
"My beard...this is..."
Brian stared blankly at the colossal statue emerging from the gate, as memories of things he had seen in the Ironforge Library were frantically resurfaced in his mind—undoubtedly, the being emerging from the gate was the legendary Titan creation, created by the Titans!
However, before Brian could figure out how to deal with this being, the voice of the female Titan creation made him feel as if he had fallen into an ice cave.
"Contamination detected. Procedure to clean up."
42. Reinforcements from Ratchet
"Huh, huh..."
Brian lay sprawled on the dusty yet still gleaming stone floor, panting heavily. Beside him, Elise Starseeker, Raynor, and Finley, leaning against the wall or slumped on the ground, all looked utterly exhausted.
Although the explorer team managed to sneak into the hall behind the door while the stone giantess, the dark iron dwarves, and the cavemen were locked in a chaotic three-way battle, and quickly hid in a small room at the end of a side path before the guardian returned, temporarily escaping the danger, less than ten minutes later, a series of very real problems descended upon them…
"Alright, that thing should go back now. I sincerely hope our upcoming activities won't trigger her nervousness again. But... how do we get out of here?"
Listening to the receding footsteps of the stone giantess, Brian, who had almost caught his breath, used his left hand to prop himself up from the ground. Looking at the several forks in the road not far away, he stroked his beard and laboriously began to try to recall the route he had just taken.
"Let's put the fork in the road aside, Brian. I heard the sound of a mechanism turning when I was pressed against the wall. Do you know what that means?"
Ellis Starseeker took out a bottle of water, took a small sip, and stared intently at Brian.
"This means the gates may already be locked, Ellis."
Renault, sitting cross-legged on the ground, chewed on high-energy compressed food while giving a mumbled reply.
"So, we have to find a way out before our supplies run out, right?"
Seeing his two teammates with expressions that said, "Ah, this place is so much fun," Ellis felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her. Their situation was practically a dead end, so why were Brian and Raynor still enjoying themselves so much?
"Don't worry, Ellis. In my experience, opening the door from the inside is definitely easier than opening it from the outside, so don't worry about us getting blocked—Renault, can you use your robot to find the way to the side paths?"
After observing the road ahead for a long time, Brian came to the conclusion that he couldn't find his way back at all.
"It's difficult. The roads here are intricate and the signal isn't very good. Worst of all, I don't know if there are any other moving things around us. What if..."
After clearing his throat and swallowing the food, Renault spread his hands to express his concern.
“You’re right, Renault. There can’t be only one guardian in such an ancient ruin.”
Brian, who had almost sobered up from the frenzy of entering the gate, frowned. Although he longed to find some valuable historical information and was not afraid of death, he was afraid of dying meaninglessly.
"Brian, Reno, there's no point in thinking about this now. No matter what lies ahead, we're locked in this hall and can't replenish our forces."
Ellis tightened her backpack strap, pulled out something that looked like a cane or a staff, and planted it on the ground, while Finley began to take out various things from his small bag to arm himself.
"Haha! Miss Ellis, you're mistaken. A tinker of my caliber is permitted to directly request aid from Ratchet in extremely harsh conditions!"
"Request for help? What kind of reinforcements will come?"
"If the Tinkerers' Guild decides that a rescue is necessary, the reinforcements that come to the rescue will be at least high-level tinkerers—this hall must be full of interesting ancient technology. As long as there is money, I believe that the Tinkerers' Guild may send not only high-level tinkerers, but even master-level tinkerers in person."
"Paying money to get things done, that's typical of Ratchet. Alright, I think it's acceptable. What do you think?"
Feeling the need to call for reinforcements, Ellis looked at their captain, Brian.
"Hmm... If Ratchet agrees not to take what I want, then there's no problem. I just want some documents; researching those technologies isn't my forte."
Brian stroked his beard and agreed with Reno's suggestion.
"Well then, I'll try to communicate, Brian, get the money ready."
As Renault spoke, he activated the Tinker's communication device.
——————————————Tinker's Hall——————————————————
"Tannis the Great Tinker, Tannis the Great Tinker."
In Tennys's laboratory, a red light illuminates, indicating that an extremely important message has been received.
"What's up?"
Tannis, who was struggling with a bunch of parts on the test bench, looked up, grabbed a rag and casually wiped her oily hands, then connected to the communication.
"A mid-level tinker sent a distress signal along with images of his location. The association analyzed the images and discovered that the distress caller was in an area of an unknown ancient facility."
"Um?"
Tennys jumped off the chair, washed her hands at the sink, took off her work clothes, put on gloves, and fastened her combat goggles and belt.
"I'll be right there."
———————————————Monitoring Room————————————————————
“That’s right, your analysis is correct. There may indeed be ancient facilities in the area where this repairman is located.”
Tennys glanced at the photo and, unsurprisingly, felt fragments of memory pulsating within her again.
"Should we send three master tinkerers over? Grand Tinker Tennys?"
Upon receiving Tanis's confirmation, the goblin tinker's expression turned serious. He knew that one of the Tinkerers' Guild's research routes was to recreate ancient technology—technology that even the night elves couldn't comprehend!
"I have to do this myself."
After extracting some information from the fragments of memory, Tannis thought for a few seconds and made a decision.
"I understand, Tennyson the Tinkerer, here are the exact coordinates."
The goblin tinker in charge nodded and displayed the detailed coordinates of Reno's distress signal on the screen.
"Well then, I'm off."
After anchoring the coordinates and conducting a trial teleport without any unexpected incidents, Tannis activated her personal teleportation device and disappeared into thin air.
————————————————Uldaman Hall——————————————————————
"Sizzle..."
A portal suddenly opened on the machine that Reno was using as a beacon transmitter. The next moment, Tannis jumped out of the portal and took in the faces of the four people present.
"...Prince Brian? You've begun your... oh, no, your adventure?"
Upon witnessing Brian, Tennys's expression turned into a blank stare, overwhelmed by the scattered information contained within a pile of memory fragments.
"Miss Tannis? Why did you come in person?"
Brian was also surprised to see Tennys.
"There's no way around it, I wouldn't trust just anyone to come to this ancient ruin. The repairman over there, this is your reward."
Having completely determined what the ruins were, Tannis casually tossed a badge to Renault, who happily accepted it.
"That is?"
"Ah, those are our Tinker's Points Badges. You can use them to upgrade a Tinker's Authority Level. They're a common reward for Tinkers who, despite not being particularly talented, have made outstanding contributions to the Association."
Upon hearing Tennys's reply, Ellis looked at Reno with a subtle expression, while Reno met her gaze with an air of self-righteousness.
"Miss Tanis, how much is the hiring fee?"
As Brian spoke, he prepared to take out his money. As a prince of Ironforge, money was not a big deal to him.
"Prince Brian, regarding the payment, I would like to take some of the spoils of war as payment after the exploration is completed. What do you think?"
"No problem. Also, just call me Brian. It's not as good as the title of Prince of Ironforge..."
As he spoke, Brian adjusted his hat.
“I think the image of a great explorer suits me better.”
43. The Trouble Caused by Brian
Tannis, the second-in-command of Ratchet and the Grand Tinker of the Tinkerers Guild, is capable of single-handedly annihilating a standard human army of a thousand at its peak, provided she is well-prepared.
Brann Bronzebeard, Prince of Ironforge, although he was slightly less skilled in combat than his two older brothers, was in fact a first-rate figure in Azeroth, whether as a hunter or a warrior.
Elise Starseeker, a high-ranking druid and also an apprentice Moon Priestess, is of unknown age, but her combat experience is undoubtedly far beyond that of ordinary people. Her dual druid and priesthood also makes her extremely difficult to deal with.
Reno Jackson, though only a second-rate tinkerer, is a top-tier thief in the human empire. Proficient in stealth, sap, lockpicking, pickpocketing, and other skills, he is extremely deadly when using these techniques in killing.
Finally, there's Finley, a strange murloc. He's strange because Sir Finley not only possesses the relatively common murloc powers of summoning water and wind elementals, but he can also faintly ignite a spark of holy light! Hmm... although right now Finley's holy light is barely bright enough to be used as a match...
Theoretically, such a five-man squad could wipe out an elite legion if the methods were right, the terrain was suitable, and the intelligence was sufficient. However, they were currently fleeing in a sorry state through the corridors of Uldaman.
“I…&*(…*&(!! Brian! I warned you that thing looks like an emergency stop switch! Why did you touch it—and even flip it?”
While Tennys frantically threw sticky bombs, stun grenades, and incendiary grenades behind her, she roared at Brian, who was charging forward beside her. The rumbling footsteps echoing down the corridor behind them clearly indicated that a large group of creatures was chasing them.
“That’s the only thing that looks like it can move, Miss Tanyas…”
Brian replied listlessly—of course, he couldn't raise his voice with a megaphone like Tennys did while running.
"Come on, Brian! When facing unknown ruins—especially something that could be a Titan ruin—assessing the surrounding risks is the top priority! I'm sure you don't want to die an obscure death in some ruin's corner!"
"Of course I wouldn't want to!!"
"Then start making this a habit now! Don't move anything until you're sure it's safe around it! Otherwise, you'll get yourself and your comrades killed sooner or later, Brian!"
As she said this, Tannis casually tossed a grenade around the corner. With a sickening sound, a thick layer of frost formed on the clay statues that looked like dwarves, covered in all sorts of random things, which were chasing them. Their feet were also pinned to the ground.
"Frost Nova?"
Reno, who was in charge of providing secondary firepower, subconsciously uttered the name of a very famous spell.
