"Lan, have you bought anything recently?" You Na turned around in confusion, but Mo Yu Lan was also completely bewildered, not knowing what was going on.
She suppressed her doubts, signed for the package, closed the door, then pulled a short dagger from her thigh, cut open the large cardboard box, and saw three small boxes inside.
“Augma…isn’t this Dad’s research project? It’s already finished?” Yuna recognized what it was. She opened a box, put the thing called Augma on her head, and tried to open it.
Judging from this, it seems all three of them have one. Aiweixin picked out a red and white Augma, Youna took a light green one, and in Moyulan's hands, only a cherry blossom pink one was left.
"This is... that portable augmented reality (AR) terminal? It looks pretty good." Mo Yulan put on the small device, fiddled with it for a bit, and found that she could now use her hands to call up menus, just like in a game. However, this menu was more like a mobile phone function than a game menu.
“Augmented reality… This must have been brought to us by Dad.” Yuna looked at the menu that had also appeared in front of her, and then guessed, “But there must be another reason why they chose to deliver them to us at this time.”
"This wasn't sent by my father-in-law; the package even says 'Wizards' on it. But we'll find out what it's for tomorrow."
------
Since it was the quarterfinals, Mo Yulan arrived at the venue early with Youna and Aiweixin. Mo Yulan was initially curious as to why this professional tournament was held in a stadium with tiered seating, but after arriving at the venue, he realized the organizers' intentions and the purpose of their Augma.
"Before today's matches begin, we'd like to introduce a next-generation portable multi-functional device – the Augma. This device comes with an augmented reality system, and all the key matches today will have a unique viewing experience based on this device. Of course, today's viewers can get an Augma for free."
The host's remark caused a huge uproar, with viewers discussing the device and why the official organizers would suddenly give away such a high-end-looking device for free. However, when some of them put on the Augma and opened the spectator system, they saw a completely different world. What was originally a normal stadium suddenly transformed into the Ravnica Guild City, and there were also various other world backgrounds to choose from, leaving the viewers overwhelmed with choices.
"So that's how it is. In that case... today should be a live stream of the King of Cards game."
------
First of all, I need to adjust my state this week, so I will only be updating twice a day and will not be adding more updates for the time being.
Then I felt that the threshold of 150 words per update was a bit too high, and it wasn't very enjoyable for me to write, so I decided to cut it by a third, to 50 words or one update per subscription, which would be more enjoyable for me to write. My typing skills are inevitably becoming like a ball.
The next thing to happen is the GGO-related storyline, but I plan to write a chapter of MTG gameplay in the style of the Card King anime first.
215. Interlude (Part Two) (Part Two)
The promotional effect of this competition was quite good. In less than an hour, Augma's live review video and live footage of the competition had spread from the Planeswalker's Camp and the NGA Magic: The Gathering section to various gaming platforms and websites.
Of course, Mo Yulan only learned about these things later. Now, he still faces three powerful enemies who cannot stop him from winning the championship, although he has already defeated two of them—the Japanese control master Shota Yasuoka and the Italian star Mengucci. And standing with him at the focus table of the finals is Watanabe Yuya, whom he met a while ago.
Mo Yulan lost two consecutive games to Watanabe's Red and Blue Phoenix in the main game, which made Yuna and Aiweixin in the audience break out in a cold sweat. However, Mo Yulan then successfully won two games after switching to the bench, dragging the score to a crucial 2-2.
"Lan, keep going!" Youna sat there holding Aiweixin, silently cheering for Mo Yulan. Then, with some concern, she leaned down and whispered in Aiweixin's ear, "Hey, Mommy doesn't quite understand. Can you explain it to Mommy?"
"The situation is fairly clear, Mom. Right now, it's obvious that the squad leader's sideboard doesn't have any Planeswalker removals. The Weathering Erosion that came in during the sideboard can only remove the Enlightenment Statue, and it can't do anything about Dad's Resonance Tezri and Kahn. And something like Little Kahn can only seal the activation ability of the Etheric Flow Reservoir, and it can't even stop Mr. Cyrus from dismantling his own artifact to draw cards."
After pondering for a while with her head down, Aiweixin uttered a long string of words that Youna only half understood, and then fell into thought again.
"The only way for the squad leader to beat Dad now is to restore the main card race. If he starts flying the Phoenix or opening the troop garrison from the third round, Dad will definitely suffer a heavy blow if Sai can't keep up."
Perhaps, as Ai Weixin said, Watanabe Yuya spent a long time preparing for this change, and it seems he was also struggling with this issue. As for Mo Yulan, after three consecutive changes, she didn't need to move her hand at all; she just stood there watching Watanabe busy himself.
The real decisive round began quickly. Both sides were using combo decks, and there wasn't much direct confrontation in the first few rounds. The real battle started from the fourth round.
Watanabe Yuya stood there in thought for a moment, then slid his finger through the air, dragging a card that was floating in front of him to combine with the card on the field. At this moment, the scenes behind the two were completely different. Behind him was a laboratory that could explode at any moment, while behind Mo Yulan was the magnificent city of Gilabo.
"My next card is Sulfur Falls, a Spectral Electricity Sorcerer, and it's your turn." As Watanabe spoke, he dragged another card in front of him and threw it onto the field—a strange goblin wearing an alchemist's robe. Two monochrome red and blue areas in front of him darkened, while the remaining two mixed red and blue areas remained lit.
Mo Yulan became cautious upon seeing this formation. Watanabe was definitely holding onto a debuff, which would be devastating once Cain entered the field. If he remained inactive, his opponent could play Phoenix for three mana and then keep debuffs for two more mana the next turn, leaving him helpless.
"I'll lay out two ornithopters and a navigator compass, and work together to study the principles of three-dimensional geometry, is that alright?" Mo Yulan said, as she gathered the two small drones that looked like aerial photography drones in front of her and the compass next to them in front of her. They turned gray after Mo Yulan gave the command.
"Okay, payment complete."
Three cards flew out of the deck to Mo Yulan's right and hovered in front of him. This time, Mo Yulan could no longer probe and could only let Watanabe pass. His only chance now was if Watanabe couldn't draw the fifth piece of land and didn't have enough mana to pay out the expired cards.
Watanabe first reset, then drew cards after maintaining his position. The first card he drew from his right hand was another Arcane Phoenix, not the Mana Source he wanted. At this point, there wasn't much to hesitate about. If he didn't activate his abilities by turn four, it would be extremely difficult to compete with Mo Yulan in speed.
He could save one mana if he had a Spectral Electric Sorcerer, but all three spells he had for Phoenix were blue. With only three blue spell mana resources, he couldn't save up for a null spell while using Phoenix.
"First, I'll make a choice, place Divination 1 at the bottom, and draw a card; then I'll make another choice, place Divination 1 at the bottom, and draw one; finally, I'll plan my route, draw two, discard an Arc Phoenix, and advance to the battle tier, is that okay?"
Mo Yulan nodded, indicating that she could proceed to the battle stage. Three transparent phoenixes, crackling with red lightning, swarmed out of the graveyard, circled Watanabe Yuya once, and then crashed into Mo Yulan.
“Every time, I subconsciously thought there would be feedback damage like in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, but there wasn’t.” Mo Yulan shrugged, watching her health drop from a maximum of twenty to nine points. Instead of being nervous, she looked confident. “You’ve run out of blue mana? Then it’s my turn to perform.”
"Avixin, Lan seems to be in danger." Youna said nervously as she watched the attacks of three phoenixes and a lightning mage strike Mo Yulan. However, Aivixin, who understood the situation, shook her head, shifted to a more comfortable position in Youna's arms, and whispered comfortingly in her ear, "It's okay, Daddy won."
"What?" Yuna was still a little confused, then she heard the exclamations of the audience and turned her attention to the arena.
"I draw an island, then tap two Crafting Maps and two Predictive Prisms to create an Etheric Stream Repository. Next, I tap two Ornithopters and one Navigator's Compass to create a Barrow's Specialist, triggering the Etheric Stream Repository's healing. This returns the three Arc Phoenixes on your field to your hand. I then cast Paradox Result from my hand for free, triggering the Etheric Stream Repository's healing. After Paradox Result resolves and returns the two Ornithopters, two Crafting Maps, one Navigator's Compass, and two Predictive Prisms to my field, for a total of seven cards..."
And so, Watanabe, who hadn't managed to gamble on Blue Land and Electric Shock, could only watch helplessly as Mo Yulan smoothly recounted his story, raising his health to 53 before activating Etheric Flow Reservoir to pay 50 more health points and blow him up in the head. This meant that Mo Yulan had successfully won his third professional tournament championship, and... he could put all this aside for now and spend some quality time with Yuna and Aivisin.
He stood in the center, receiving cheers from all around, holding the trophy in his left hand and his right hand held up by You Na. Ai Weixin stood obediently between Mo Yulan and You Na, tilting her head slightly before leaning against his chest. I captured this scene with my camera, as I felt it was a very memorable moment.
"Next, we will be spending a year collaborating with Shigemura Research Institute to develop a game playable on Augma. Please stay tuned. Now, let's cheer for the champion of this competition—congratulations to the Hall of Fame player from China, Issac.Mo, on his grand return after two years!"
------
Next up is the GGO-related storyline, and this interlude—you can think of it as the prologue to the Ordinal Scale storyline—that's all.
And recently, I'll be starting a new Magic: The Gathering competitive novel without delaying the updates of this book. If you're interested, you can check it out under this author's account. I'll mention it again once it's approved.
216. Kirito's Mysterious Disappearance
In the brightly lit bars, people often tend to indulge in revelry, or find someone they like to chat with, hoping to have a wonderful night. However, in this bar, people—holding their glasses or having just finished one—are all looking at the large screen hanging in the center of the bar.
"Undoubtedly, in Dark Zone PvP, the Secret Raider remains the best choice for players with excellent marksmanship and movement. However, those players who have spent 9,000 stamina may be heartbroken, as they may have just wasted an entire set of extremely hard-to-obtain Secret gear."
The screen displayed what appeared to be an interview program, and the guy who looked like a special guest, dressed in a light blue suit, was spouting nonsense. Many of the players below were annoyed by his words, some even angrily smashing their glasses on the ground, letting them shatter into polygonal fragments—yes, this was a bar in the virtual world.
But he didn't join the commotion; he simply sat quietly on the sofa, his body hunched over. A cold gaze pierced through the gap between the heavily pulled-down ghillie suit hood and the thick cloth covering the lower half of his face, sweeping across the store.
It was time. He thought to himself, silently rising to his feet and moving step by step between the tables. No one noticed his presence.
"Foolish audience... prepare to taste fear."
He stopped in the middle of the bar, pulled a crude pistol from his waist, and aimed it straight at the man spouting nonsense in the center of the screen—the guest of the interview.
"False victor... now is the time for you to face the real punishment!"
He raised his left arm and touched his forehead, chest, left shoulder, and right shoulder in sequence with his fingertips, making the sign of a cross. Then, he lowered his left hand and pulled the trigger with his right.
The deadly nine-millimeter straight shot flew straight through the screen, completely piercing its target—the male guest on the screen.
"Hey, that idiot really shot!"
"I'm afraid he's lost his mind."
"So..." the man said, his voice suddenly stopped, and then his figure suddenly disappeared from the chair.
The previously noisy atmosphere in the store suddenly fell silent, and everyone stared intently at the man who was completely wrapped in a ghillie suit.
He lowered the gun from the screen, maintaining a horizontal grip, then slowly turned his body, his eyes scanning all the players in the store.
"...This is true power—true might! Foolish audience, remember my name forever, along with terror!"
"My name and this gun's name are [Death Gun]!"
------
"There's a lot to say about the last question. The first part is about the iron configuration, which is [Ar]3d64s2. The next part is about the spatial configuration of the sulfate ion. First, calculate the number of valence electron pairs and lone pairs using the formula, and then deduce its theoretical configuration based on VSEPR theory. Of course, there is actually a simpler method, which we will discuss tomorrow. Finally, I'll call on the students who answered correctly; those who answered correctly can leave now."
Mo Yulan placed the chalk and book on the table, picked up the attendance book, and coughed lightly twice.
"Kazuto Kiritani?"
"Here." A delicate voice, yet forcefully carrying a hint of masculine strength, rang out.
"OK, Asuna can go now. Next time, tell your family to find a boy with a similar voice to answer for him." Mo Yulan said without looking up, and then continued calling out names.
In fact, apart from Kirito, who had disappeared somewhere, no one was absent from his class. Watching the students leave one by one with their bags, Mo Yulan finally decided to stop Asuna, who was still packing her bag.
"Asuna, come to my office. Yuna, wait for me in the office for a moment. I need to ask that guy what he's been up to."
As he said this, he glanced nervously at Yuna's seat, but Yuna just sat there smiling, holding her schoolbag that she had just packed, without saying a word.
Mo Yulan walked to You Na's side, took the schoolbag from her hand, and then headed towards the office. There weren't many people in the office, or rather, the school didn't have many teachers to begin with.
"Tell me, how did that idiot come up with the idea of having you answer the questions for him? If he really had something to do, couldn't he just ask me for leave?" Mo Yulan sat in front of her desk, her tone full of puzzlement. "Given our relationship, I would give him a leave slip if he asked to stay home to sleep or play games. I don't know what he was thinking."
"Kirito has a fever and is lying at home..." Asuna's pale explanation sounded like utter nonsense to Mo Yulan. He figured it was unlikely he'd get any reliable information from her anyway. So he opened his Augma's phone screen and called Kirito.
"The number you dialed is currently switched off..."
"Asuna, I think you should tell me the truth. I can't get in touch with Kazu, and he couldn't possibly be at home with a fever." Mo Yulan's tone instantly turned serious, tinged with anxiety. "Where did he go?"
“Um… Teacher Mo…” Asuna hesitated for a long time before telling Mo Yulan the truth, “He only told people that he had something to do in the afternoon, but he specifically told me not to tell you, so I don’t know what happened.”
"Fine then, you go first. I don't believe this idiot can hide from me forever."
Mo Yulan waved his hand irritably, then sat down and began to ponder. His first thought was that Kirito had been recruited by the Templars and was now a spy within his ranks. However, he almost immediately dismissed this hypothesis, probably because he would never consider the possibility of his own brother becoming a traitor.
"He's so mysterious... What else is he hiding from me and Asuna? Could it be that he's having an affair...? He doesn't seem like that kind of person. Or is he being kept by a rich woman and having sex?"
He unconsciously blurted out what he was thinking, and Yuuna, who was next to him, couldn't help but look strange as she listened to his mutterings.
"Hey! Yuna, you're still here... Ugh... (No way, we're still in the office...)"
After a long while, he realized there was someone else beside him and quickly looked up. However, Yuna immediately covered his mouth with her tongue, forcing him to swallow the rest of his words.
After a long time, You Na finally released Mo Yu Lan's lips, gently breaking the glistening string between them with her finger, and then placed that finger on Mo Yu Lan's already flushed chin.
"It seems you really care about your friend Lan, Lan..." She smiled, staring into Mo Yulan's wet, light purple eyes, and said something quite dramatic, "You've all left me out of the picture, I'm so sad..."
“I can understand your jealousy, but I can’t understand the person you’re jealous of…” Mo Yulan shook his head helplessly. He felt that ever since You Na inherited part of the power of the Forerunner, he had become more and more carnivorous, which made him feel quite frustrated. “But to be honest, I still can’t understand what he did, or why he had to keep it from me.”
"We'll find out tomorrow anyway, won't we?" As soon as Youna finished speaking, she saw Mo Yulan's expression turn serious again. She wondered what message he had seen on his Augma.
"Wait a minute, I need to take this call... Hello? Received, the meeting point remains the same, right? I understand." After finishing the call, he turned off Augma, a helpless expression on his face. "I probably won't be coming to school for a while; my superiors have assigned me a task."
"Is this a call-up notice from Rainbow Squad? I want to go too."
