Chapter 132 Mission

Africa is located southwest of Asia. It is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and separated from Europe by the Mediterranean Sea to the north. The Suez Canal is conventionally considered the boundary between Africa and Asia in the northeast. It accounts for approximately 20.2% of the world's total land area.

This place is home to all sorts of life, and also to bloody conflicts, all between tribes, mercenaries hired by corporations, and the local natives. Death, Hank, is on a mission here, searching for a mysterious Plaka parasite.

Ten Hummers sped along the bumpy road, each traveling at a considerable speed, all in an effort to find more ground to complete their mission. In the fifth vehicle, Hank sat in the passenger seat, contemplating his mission in Africa: to obtain a sample of Plaka's parasite, a sample buried for centuries beneath Lord Raymond Salazar's castle.

Half an hour ago, an urgent mission was issued: to go to the village where the parasites were found, ten kilometers away, and to ask the villagers there. For some unknown reason, all company members there had lost contact, including a middle manager.

Umbrella Corporation also dispatched troops to investigate what had happened, in order to find the parasite samples that their boss needed.

Alfred Asiford, a veteran of World War II, joined Umbrella's UBC after leaving his home region. For him, whether the company was good or bad, he only cared about his boss.

"Captain Hank, have you found anything in that village?" Alfred Ashford asked, glancing slightly at Death Hank.

Alfred turned to Hank, who was sitting diagonally behind him, and asked slowly. Hank had just lit a cigarette, taken a puff, and exhaled a satisfied smoke ring before speaking.

"Nothing has been found yet. The last communication was three days ago. All I know is that they said they found something, which I think will be helpful to our mission, so I need to go there and take a look," Hank said calmly.

To be honest, Hank has never been optimistic about the UBCS's mortality rate. The UBCS is a unit with an extremely high mortality rate, and although it is a well-equipped unit, Alfred has never been afraid of anything.

"When I get back to America, I absolutely have to have a glass of whiskey," Alfred said with a hint of helplessness.

Because the mission came so quickly, even the vice-captain Alfred didn't get to drink his daily whiskey. Now, all he could think about was finishing the mission quickly so he could go back and have some whiskey.

Hank didn't say a word. He watched the driver focus on the steering wheel.

The Umbrella Africa branch was only fifty kilometers away from the mysterious village. The Hummer traveled at a speed of sixty kilometers per hour and soon arrived at the entrance of the mysterious village.

Mystery is a village of about a thousand people. It has many crisscrossing paths. These paths are too narrow for a Hummer to pass through; there's only enough space for two people to walk side-by-side, no more than that. Most importantly, there's a castle here.

"Something's not right here." Hank, who had been intently observing his surroundings, frowned. Upon entering, he placed his MP5 in a spot where he could easily reach it if he encountered danger.

Hank frowned. As a former elite member of Umbrella Corporation's special forces, he felt a sense of unease about the village's eerie silence. Years of intuition told him that this place would be unforgettable for him.

“Hopefully we can finish the mission here soon.” Hank’s index finger rested on the trigger, just in case danger struck. Alfred looked outside indifferently and chuckled. “Actually, there’s nothing to be afraid of. We’ve all been enhanced with the same serum as Captain America.”

Hank didn't say anything and continued to observe his surroundings. Although Africa was a dangerous place, the other mercenaries had to complete their missions for a better future and a hefty commission.

“Then let’s not slow down and keep going. Let’s see what this village has to offer.” Alfred’s eyes gleamed with excitement, as if he was very interested in being here.

The driver stepped on the accelerator, and the Hummer, which had slowed down a bit, picked up speed and caught up with the Hummer in front.

The ten Hummers maintained a distance that was neither too close nor too far, and soon arrived at the center of the mysterious village. Normally, this square was bustling with villagers working, but now it was deathly silent, making one wonder if they had stumbled upon a place that had been abandoned for over a decade.

No one rushed to get off the bus, and no one confirmed whether the danger had passed. Anyone who got off the bus could have died.

"There's not a soul in sight, it's like a ghost town from a movie." A chill ran through Hank, the Grim Reaper, and his right hand unconsciously gripped the handle of his MP5. Clearly, something dangerous was there, making him feel uneasy.

"Let's get out of the vehicle," Alfred said to Hank, the Grim Reaper, beside him. Alfred, practically the highest-ranking officer, gave the order, and the mercenaries had no choice but to get out, even if they didn't want to.

The sun's rays offered the mercenaries little warmth, and they didn't find the place particularly strange. John, one of the mercenaries, carrying Barrett, surveyed the surrounding paths to confirm there was no one and no danger.

“Safe,” John said seriously. Other teams followed suit, reporting that the danger had passed and the square was basically safe.

Alfred stepped forward and looked at the group, saying, "Alright, soldiers, our mission is to find out why the company employees went missing, and while we're at it, to see what happened here, since there isn't even a trace of a living person left. And ideally, we should find our target."

"Yes." The uniform reply showed that although they were only temporarily in charge of the mercenaries, common sense was already ingrained in their minds, and the mercenaries would unconsciously come to like this kind of answer.

“Each squad, go and check the area around the village.” Alfred looked up and continued, “According to the location returned from reconnaissance, this is in a remote area to the east of the village. Fifth squad, go to that remote area and see what you find. The other squads, go and investigate the situation.”

The heavy responsibility fell on the shoulders of everyone in the Fifth Squad. Death, Hank, showed no reaction; he was used to it, used to being entrusted with important tasks. The captain didn't say a word, and the others certainly didn't express their dissatisfaction.

All the squads split up and went to the village, and the fifth squad also began to head towards their mission location. The path was not easy to walk on, so they had to be careful, or they might twist their ankles if they walked too fast.

“That’s why I don’t like coming to this village,” John complained.

Tim, without turning his head, said to John, "Alright, enough talk. Let's get to the location of the missing person quickly, see if he's alive, and then start the engine and leave this ominous place."

"We know, we know, it's all about your money. Don't try to hide it, we know what you're up to."

Alfred, walking beside him, maintained the relaxed mood of strolling in his own backyard and casually asked Hank, who was in first place, "Hank, have you noticed anything?"

“We haven’t found anything yet, or at least not at all. There’s not a single person or even a single animal here. I think something important must have happened to cause this situation,” Hank said after thinking for a moment.

Even in the poorest of these mysterious African villages, livestock were kept. Strangely, the livestock seemed to have disappeared along with the people.

"Maybe they were killed, but that's impossible." Alfred scoffed at Hank's words. This matter wasn't so simple; perhaps something dangerous had happened here. When Tang Tian brought them here, he naturally informed them of the danger of the mission, but they hadn't refused—it was their duty. After all, not just anyone could receive such a secret and important mission. The mission itself demonstrated its importance to their boss, and it also proved the trust their boss placed in them—a privilege not everyone could enjoy. (To be continued...)

Chapter 133 Ada Wong

Just as Death Hank was about to enter the village, a figure flashed around the corner, causing Death Hank to shout, "Who is it!?" The people behind him also put away their relaxed attitude and became alert.

"What's going on?" Once on alert, Alfred's calm expression vanished, replaced by a serious and solemn one, giving people a sense that he could be trusted.

"There's someone ahead." With just that one sentence, Death Hank started running. The figure ahead was undoubtedly the only living person here, and only this living person who had seen him would know what was happening here and how to ensure the mission could be completed.

Here, the road surface was no longer as slippery as before, where even a slight step would cause an ankle twist. The road was now relatively level, so Hank wasn't worried about twisting his ankle; with a little care, he could avoid it. But most importantly, Death Hank had also been enhanced with the Superman serum.

The figure ran very fast, and even Hank the Grim Reaper, who was in hot pursuit, only vaguely sensed that the figure might be one of their own, though he wasn't entirely sure. Hank only knew the general outline of the mission; the details hadn't been shared with the team yet. Only at the appropriate time would Umbrella's informant secretly reveal the details.

The figure darted left and right, making it impossible for Hank to catch up. Firing a gun was out of the question, and the figure could also be an Umbrella Corporation informant, further reducing the likelihood of Hank firing.

If things continued like this, the distance would only widen further, so Hank climbed over the low earthen wall beside him. He knew the road ahead, and rather than chasing after the swift figure from behind, he figured he might as well catch up with the swift figure from behind the earthen wall.

Hank scaled the earthen wall, and the space opened up considerably. Although it was still small, it was enough for Hank to chase after people. Now he only needed to accelerate and figure out which path the person might be running down to catch him.

Meanwhile, Alfred and the others behind him saw people who had been enhanced with special powers. John, standing nearby, couldn't help but shout, "Sir, Hank has run away. It seems he's discovered someone of unknown origin."

“Shut up, John. We have to catch up with that figure and find out what she’s up to here.”

Alfred reprimanded John, for he had a vague idea of what Hank was thinking. This was also what his boss had told him when he gave him the mission, because choosing the Plaka parasite was a closely guarded secret. They had to proceed with extreme caution, or other factions would discover such a valuable item.

"But..." Actually, John was complaining because he had brought the wrong gun. Chasing people with a Barrett sniper rifle was just asking for trouble, but he was too reluctant to leave the Barrett behind, so he had no choice but to chase people with the Barrett sniper rifle.

Tim smirked behind John's back, even though he couldn't see it. John was suffering terribly with Barrett. John, who was usually so talkative, was now slightly quiet. Finally, his ears could have some peace and quiet.

"Damn it, that guy is definitely one of us." John, carrying a Barrett sniper rifle, was sweating profusely from running through the narrow alleys, but he gritted his teeth and persevered. He didn't want to be laughed at by others, even though he knew he would be laughed at when he got back; he didn't want to be caught off guard by his lack of stamina.

"Stop talking nonsense!" Tim roared. He was the same; he hadn't expended much energy, but feeling like he was being toyed with still made him unconsciously irritable.

Alfred remained relaxed; to be honest, he didn't want to be like the others with their imperfect serum enhancements. So he felt quite at ease. He had come here to find out if this village was related to the mission; only by finding that person could he know.

Hank was like a parkour performer, flipping and climbing over the earthen wall beside the path, expending more energy than the fifth squad on the path. However, the Superman serum provided him with a constant source of strength, allowing Hank to keep up with the pace.

Having memorized the basic layout of the village, Hank decided to ambush the enemy in a slightly open area ahead. Once he was noticed, Hank accelerated and rushed out, jumping down to stand in a slightly open spot, hiding behind the wall, listening for footsteps coming from the side path.

The footsteps grew closer, and the sunlight cast a shadow on the ground. Hank didn't care who the shadow belonged to; he just wanted to catch it first.

He darted out and blocked her way, but found nothing. Hank noticed the figure had glossy, flowing black hair, confirming it was a woman. From the woman's voice, Hank knew his contact had arrived—a subordinate of Wesker and his boss, Tang Tian.

"It really is you! Ada Wong, you're always there for the most confidential missions." Hank knew their liaison had appeared as soon as he saw the woman's face.

“I can’t underestimate you.” Hank had just finished saying this when he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. Ada Wong had nudged him in the stomach with her elbow.

"Death Hank? Even if you're one of us, we can't be careless. Let me see your strength first." Ada Wong pressed her left foot firmly against the ground and forcefully swept it towards Death Hank's legs.

Hank the Grim Reaper dodged Ada Wong's sweeping leg with a front flip. At that moment, Ada Wong stopped and stood still, not attacking. Clearly, she was preparing to explain the mission; after all, completing the mission was the priority, and there were limits to testing the other members of the company.

Ada Wong is Tang Tian's most important agent, in charge of Umbrella Corporation's intelligence department. Her role is the same as Natasha's.

Hank was well aware of Ada Wong's background, but as Tang Tian's subordinate, he wouldn't dwell on it. He was just a subordinate of his boss and shouldn't concern himself with company missions. He was simply a mercenary carrying out missions, temporarily under the protection of the Umbrella Corporation. In short, he was just a mercenary fighting for money.

"Hank! Now I can tell you the mission." Ada Wong's loud shout immediately snapped Hank back to reality. He turned around and saw that it was Ada Wong calling him, so he quickly said, "Okay, we can begin."

"The target is the Plaka parasite, in the Dubaija swamp in Africa. Of course, this place has also been attacked by the parasite. However, it is not your target location," Ada Wong said seriously, looking around.

“The Plaka parasite is a very special creature. Similar to a roundworm, after ingestion, it quickly invades the host's brain, forming a symbiotic relationship. The host absorbs nutrients, the parasite takes a portion, and in return, it provides the host with strength, speed, and a near-immortal body. Most importantly, the boss said we can add the power of the T, G, and Veronica viruses. With this parasite, we can perfectly control the power of those viruses.” Ada Wong explained calmly, while Death Hank listened attentively; this was the importance of the mission.

Tang Tian is currently trying to gain as many benefits as possible during the rise of superheroes, all in pursuit of his dream of building an interstellar empire. (To be continued...)

Chapter 134 Mission Begins

Ada Wong explained to Death Hank, in a simple yet detailed way, the parasite sample that Tang Tian needed. She also explained its value, giving Death Hank a more intuitive understanding.

"Hank, have you found anything?" The rest of the fifth squad came out from the alley. Captain Alfred saw Hank deep in thought and called out to him, only to find that Hank quickly reacted.

Hank snapped out of his daze, turned around, and saw that it was Alfred calling him. He quickly asked, "Captain, is there something you need?"

“That person is one of our own, right? Did you tell her about her mission?” Alfred said seriously to Hank.

Hank met Ada Wong and learned about his boss's plan, then truthfully said, "I already know the location of our mission objective."

“Very good, where is it?” Alfred continued to ask. “Dubai Marsh,” Hank replied casually.

"Damn it, it's one of our own." John, the hardest-working member of the fifth squad, cursed. "That guy showed up here for the mission, how great! Making me carry such heavy stuff all this way." John complained incoherently, and Alfred, as the captain, had to shout at him.

“Shut up, John. Instead of complaining here, go to your new mission location and get out of this village.”

"Fuck!" Although he said he would shut up, John still cursed before he did so, and walked eastward on his own.

Hank, both amused and exasperated, said to John, "John, I think you should probably just throw the Barrett away?"

John turned and glared at Hank. "Absolutely not. Barrett is my weapon, and only it is worthy of being my weapon." He then left without saying another word.

Hank shook his head, and the people beside him headed outside. The team also began to move forward. After confirming the target location, they began their new mission. Tang Tian was still in the United States, but he was quite concerned about the situation in Africa; some valuable things should be collected.

"Perhaps what I mean is, we might be going into dangerous areas. Aren't you afraid?" Alfred had also heard about the dangers of the mission as he left. But many people might refuse such a mission, since it would benefit many.

“There might be danger, maybe just some dangerous creature that hasn’t been discovered yet, but it’s the boss’s order, and we have to carry it out,” Death Hank said, still expressionless.

“Mr. Wesker, the mission has been communicated to the team in Africa.” In a secluded location in Africa, Ada Wong spoke to Albert Wesker in Japan via satellite phone.

“Very good, you did a great job. The boss thinks highly of your abilities. Next step: you need to join S.H.I.E.L.D. and find the Hydra organization that secretly controls S.H.I.E.L.D.” Wesker said simply as always, first praising Ada Wong and then issuing the latest order.

“Yes, Mr. Wesker,” Ada Wong replied earnestly, then hung up the phone and left.

"Welcome to the Skynet system. Please select your contact method." Wesker had just hung up the phone when he pulled out an ultra-thin computer that looked like it was made of glass.

"Please enter your fingerprint to confirm your password permissions," a synthesized voice announced from the computer.

"Albert Wesker. Highest privileges. System connection to mainframe initiated."

Dressed in a black trench coat, Wesker waited attentively, reporting the mission's progress to his boss. As a former subordinate, Wesker knew exactly what he could gain with Tang Tian's help. Only by possessing greater power could he overwhelm many forces. The emergence of mutants and Iron Man made Wesker realize that this world was far from ordinary. To secure a place among the ever-growing number of superheroes and villains, Wesker decided to further enhance his strength.

"Wesker, has the mission started yet?" Tang Tian asked directly after seeing that it was Wesker's message.
