After watching Zhou Zhiruo leave, Ling Chi started setting up his stall and lighting a fire.

Soon, a foul stench, like that of excrement, spread throughout the city.

Chapter Twenty-Three: The Stench

Led by Abbess Miejue, the Emei Sect has been in the towns near Bright Peak for two days. Apart from the Kunlun Sect, the Emei Sect was the first sect to arrive. The Kongtong Sect arrived on the second day, and today, the Huashan Sect, Shaolin Sect, and Wudang Sect have also arrived one after another.

Just as the six major sects were preparing to discuss their plan to besiege Bright Peak, Zhou Zhiruo returned.

Seeing that Zhou Zhiruo looked travel-worn and not in good health, Abbess Miejue was somewhat surprised: "Zhiruo, are you feeling unwell?"

"Thank you for your concern, Master. I am fine." Zhou Zhiruo would never mention that she was carsick. How could such an embarrassing thing as vomiting all over the place happen to a fairy like her!

Seeing that Zhou Zhiruo showed no abnormality, Abbess Miejue nodded and asked, "How is Young Hero Ling?"

“Brother Ling has already entered the city,” Zhou Zhiruo said.

"Oh?" Abbess Miejue's face lit up with joy: "So, Young Hero Ling is willing to help us eradicate the Demonic Sect?"

Zhou Zhiruo shook her head: "Brother Ling is here to do business."

Abbess Miejue: "???"

……

After listening to Zhou Zhiruo's story, Abbess Miejue was both amused and exasperated: "Indeed, this is Young Master Ling's style—emotional and unconventional."

He did indeed perfectly imitate the Eastern Heretic's temperament.

Abbess Miejue thought to herself.

“Master, I think Brother Ling’s business dealings are just a facade,” Zhou Zhiruo said.

"Oh?" Abbess Miejue asked, "How do you know?"

Zhou Zhiruo blushed and whispered, "Brother Ling... dotes on his disciple very much."

"..." Abbess Miejue scrutinized her, seemingly lost in thought.

"Really." Fearing that Abbess Miejue wouldn't believe her, Zhou Zhiruo handed over her personal sword: "Master, look."

"Hmm?" Abbess Miejue looked at the sword and finally realized that it was not a standard longsword of the Emei Sect: "What is this?"

“This is a sword that Brother Ling gave to me for self-defense,” Zhou Zhiruo said. “This sword can cut through iron like mud, and its sharpness is no less than that of the Heaven-Slaying Sword. When my sword clashed with this sword before, it broke in two like scrap metal.”

"So sharp!?" Abbess Miejue was startled. She drew her longsword and saw that it was cold and sharp, with a light that could illuminate people. It was also quite heavy and was definitely not a decorative item.

Abbess Miejue drew her sword, and the two swords clashed. With a crack, Abbess Miejue's sword broke in two, while the other sword remained intact.

"What a fine sword!" A glint flashed in Abbess Miejue's eyes. "It is indeed a divine weapon that is no less powerful than the Heaven-Slaying Sword."

Zhou Zhiruo gave a soft "hmm" and said, "Divine weapons are extremely rare, yet Brother Ling gifted them to me, which is why I feel..."

"That's good." Abbess Miejue smiled, sheathed the sword, tossed it back to Zhou Zhiruo, and said, "I can rest assured now."

Zhou Zhiruo caught the sword, looked at the broken sword on the ground, and said, "Master, your sword..."

"It's alright," said Abbess Miejue. "I have been practicing the Nine Yin Manual diligently for many years. Even without a sword, I have enough means to kill the enemy. Besides, there are plenty of swords and blades on the battlefield."

Zhou Zhiruo nodded.

"Now that the six major sects have joined forces, your master... um?" Abbess Miejue sniffed: "What's that smell?"

"It stinks!" Zhou Zhiruo hurriedly covered her mouth and nose and said, "Master, could it be that the people of the Demonic Sect used underhanded means to sludge in here?"

Abbess Miejue frowned, feeling inexplicably uncomfortable with Zhou Zhiruo's words: "What excrement? It smells so good, how could it be excrement!"

aroma?

Zhou Zhiruo looked completely bewildered.

"Come, follow me out to take a look!" Abbess Miejue was the first to walk out of the guest room.

At this moment, the various factions staying at the inn burst out of their rooms, shouting and cursing incessantly.

"Who spilled the manure? It stinks like hell!"

"This must be a despicable tactic by the evil cult! How vile!"

"It stinks so bad, I'm going to throw up."

"Ugh~~~~~~~~~~"

Seeing these people's reactions, Zhou Zhiruo breathed a sigh of relief: It's not that there's something wrong with my nose.

Turning her head to look at Abbess Miejue, who was taking deep breaths and had a look of... ecstasy?, Zhou Zhiruo fell silent.

……

"Hey! Come on over and take a look! Freshly fried stinky tofu, smells pungent, but tastes amazing, the more you eat, the better it gets. Don't miss out, you'll regret it for life if you do! Come on, brother, want to try some?"

By the roadside, Ling Chi had already set up a hot oil pan, and stinky tofu, emitting a strong stench, was being deep-fried in the pan. The stench grew stronger and stronger, causing people within a hundred meters to flee. Even after fleeing a hundred meters, the stench was still overwhelming, causing countless people to curse and yell incessantly.

"Try your mother!" Several burly men rushed over, about to smash his stall.

Xiao Zhao flashed out and instantly took down the burly men, scaring no one else into being the first to step forward.

Ling Chi, holding a bowl of freshly cooked stinky tofu, squatted down and looked at the burly men, smiling as he said, "Brothers, want to try some?"

As the stinky tofu drew ever closer and the toxic fumes grew increasingly deadly, the burly men's eyes rolled back, and they fainted.

Ling Chi: "..."

"They don't know what's good for them." Ling Chi sighed, beginning to doubt whether selling stinky tofu was the right choice.

It's not his fault; he made stinky tofu on Peach Blossom Island several times, but no one was willing to try it! As a result, there was a backlog of inventory, so he had no choice but to try his luck here.

It seems like things have gotten off to a bad start!

"Father, don't be discouraged." Xiao Zhao covered her mouth and nose with a thick handkerchief and encouraged Ling Chi: "It will definitely sell out."

"..."

Ling Chi rolled her eyes: "Say it again with your hand on your heart."

Xiao Zhao looked up at the sky.

"..."

Just when it seemed like things were about to get really bad, Abbess Miejue arrived.

"Young Master Ling."

Ling Chi turned his head and saw that it was Abbess Miejue. He smiled and said, "What brings you here, Abbess?"

"This humble nun smelled a delicious aroma here, so I came to see what it was. It turns out it's Young Master Ling selling food!" Looking at the bowls of fried stinky tofu already prepared, Abbess Miejue's stomach swelled, and she quickly asked, "What is Young Master Ling selling? It smells so good!"

"..."

Seeing the burning gaze in Abbess Miejue's eyes, Ling Chi suddenly realized what was going on.

This fried stinky tofu came out of her body, so it must be the best thing to eat.

Ling Chi smiled broadly: "Fried stinky tofu, five taels of silver a serving, would you like to try some, nun?"

Abbess Miejue nodded repeatedly and took out five taels of silver from her bosom: "This humble nun would like one portion."

Ling Chi accepted the silver with a smile and handed her a bowl of fried stinky tofu: "Master, please."

Abbess Miejue held the bowl of fried stinky tofu, brought it close to her mouth, and smelled it with increasing delight.

It smells so good, I can't resist.

Abbess Miejue used a long, thin bamboo skewer to pick up a piece of stinky tofu, about to put it in her mouth.

"Amitabha! Abbess, you mustn't!"

Just then, a Buddhist lion's roar made Abbess Miejue's ears ring. Turning her head, she saw Abbot Kongwen of Shaolin Temple striding towards her, covering his mouth and nose. Upon reaching her, he saw the stinky tofu in Abbess Miejue's hand and frowned: "Abbess, you are a nun, how can you eat meat? Throw it away!"

Those who have renounced worldly life cannot eat "meat" or "fish," and many people think that this only means they cannot eat meat, but they can eat anything else. In fact, that is not the case.

"腥" refers to meat, while "荤" refers to vegetables with a foul odor or pungent smell, such as garlic, scallions, and leeks. The Surangama Sutra states that eating raw meat arouses anger, while eating cooked meat promotes lust. Therefore, Buddhism requires abstaining from these foods.

This stinky tofu not only has a 'foul odor', but it also contains 'garlic juice,' one of the five pungent spices. According to the standards of monks, it is absolutely forbidden to eat. Abbot Kongwen's obstruction of Abbess Miejue from eating it was indeed out of good intentions.

Unfortunately, he advised the wrong person.

"Shut up!" Abbess Miejue said fiercely, "What I eat is none of your business!"

“You—” Abbot Kongwen’s face flushed red, not from embarrassment, but from anger.

"Amitabha." He hurriedly chanted the Buddha's name, truly afraid that he would lose control and attack Abbess Miejue.

"Hmph! Buddhism forbids killing, yet your Shaolin Temple has repeatedly 'subdued demons and monsters,' killing countless lives. Why didn't you think about the Buddhist precepts back then?" Abbess Miejue's words were sharp and sarcastic, making Abbot Kongwen's face turn from red to purple, and then from purple to black. He looked like he was about to go to the Western Paradise to serve Buddha.

"Ahem!" Ling Chi coughed lightly and said, "As the saying goes, 'Wine and meat pass through the intestines, but Buddha remains in the heart.' Why be so attached, Master?"

Upon hearing this, Kong Wen was utterly astonished: "What you mean by that, benefactor..."

"Young Master Ling is right!" Abbess Miejue immediately felt triumphant. She had long been annoyed by all the rules and regulations, otherwise she wouldn't have been so ruthless when killing people. Now that she had finally encountered a meal that suited her taste perfectly, it was simply unreasonable for the bald monk Kongwen to try to stop her.

Young Master Ling is truly eloquent; "Wine and meat pass through the intestines, but Buddha remains in the heart." Well said, well said indeed!

Abbess Miejue's Buddhist nature suddenly increased, and she said, "As the saying goes, if I don't go to hell, who will? After I die, I will go to hell to serve Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. What does a little meat matter?"

After saying that, Abbess Miejue put a piece of stinky tofu into her mouth.

"Well--"

You are my little apple, I can never love you enough... Abbess Miejue jumped up.

"..."

Chapter Twenty-Four: Yandere

"This..." Seeing Abbess Miejue dancing with joy as she ate, Abbot Kongwen was completely dumbfounded.

Is this stinky tofu, which tastes like shit, really that delicious?

For some reason, even though it smelled terrible, gradually, I felt that there was a strange attraction to this stench... Abbot Kongwen subconsciously swallowed and turned away.

Amitabha Buddha, I am a monk and must not break the precepts.

You must not break the precepts. You must not break the precepts.
