"Who gave you permission to act without authorization?"

Spider-Man was taken aback and said, "What? What do you mean? Am I wrong to defeat the Lizard?"

The sheriff sneered, "You probably don't know how long we've been waiting for this guy to show up, and you probably don't know that we were playing the long game, hoping to find the mastermind behind it all. But you, you've cut off our trail the moment you make your move."

Spider-Man, somewhat embarrassed, scratched his head and said, "Sorry, I really didn't know that. I thought the Lizard was about to attack the crowd."

The sheriff said coldly, "Hmph, if apologies were enough, what would we police be for? I suspect you're connected to the mastermind behind the Lizardmen. Please come with us to the police station for questioning."
