Chapter 27, The Beginning of the New York Nights Instance

New York park.

A thin layer of transparent ice floats on the surface of the central lake, shimmering in the sunlight.

On a wooden bench by the lake, a white youth and a Chinese teenager sat side by side.

Captain America Steve Rogers turned to hope Nian and said jokingly, "Thank goodness you didn't shout just now, otherwise you might have been surrounded by onlookers again."

“That’s not what I wanted to see either. I don’t like attracting too much attention.” Xi Nian shrugged, then asked curiously, “Captain, you’re still alive?”

"It was just dug out of the Arctic ice not long ago," Steve said, shrugging.

Perhaps neither Steve nor Xinian felt that the other was special, so they chatted casually and naturally.

“You just said you don’t like attracting too much attention,” Steve remarked. “In my day, everyone wanted to be the center of attention. Has this generation of young people changed?”

"Times have changed, Captain."

hope Nian really wanted to criticize this statement, but in the end, he changed it to: "In fact, the intensity with which people seek attention now is definitely more exaggerated than in your time."

"I don't want to attract attention. It's just that I prefer a peaceful and quiet daily life."

Upon hearing what Xinian said, Steve's young and handsome face visibly froze for a moment.

"Captain, I actually have a question for you," hope Nian asked curiously, "If you were given another chance, would you want to be an ordinary person or a superhero?"

"This……"

Steve paused, seemingly stumped by Xinian's question.

After a moment, Steve said softly, "I wanted to be a hero before I became an ordinary person. Unfortunately, it's all too late now."

He clearly looks like a young man in his early twenties, but now, the helplessness and desolation on his face make him look like a centenarian.

However, calling him a 'centenarian' doesn't seem wrong at all.

hope Nian vaguely understood what Steve was trying to say.

As superheroes, they mostly do it for the world; while as ordinary people, they do it for someone else.

But when the world still exists, and that person is gone, then many things lose their meaning.

"Why would you think about something like that?" Steve asked, looking at Xinian with a puzzled expression.

"It's nothing, it just suddenly came to mind," hope Nian shook his head.

This will also be the biggest problem he will face in his future life.

The choice my aunt mentioned also stemmed from here.

Extraordinary, ordinary.

A difference in thought.

……

"hope Nian!" "Senior!"

Two voices suddenly called out from behind. Xinian turned around and saw Gwen and Kara.

How did they find us?

“Son,” Steve suddenly patted Xinian on the shoulder, saying meaningfully, “As someone who’s been there, I want to remind you to cherish the present. Also, take care of your health.”

"Captain, you've misunderstood."

hope Nian's lips twitched, thinking to himself, "Why is Captain America always so frivolous?"

"Captain, see you again sometime." He waved his hand, got up from his chair, and walked towards Gwen and the others with his backpack.

Steve gave an OK sign.

"Xinian, who were you chatting with just now?" Gwen asked curiously, looking at the chair in the distance.

hope Nian also looked back, but Captain America was no longer on the wooden bench by the lake.

hope Nian casually replied, "We met on the road and chatted for a bit."

"Is that so?" Gwen blinked, seemingly doubtful, but didn't press for further details.

Kara, standing next to him, looked thoughtful.

……

As Xinian and his group continued their shopping and entertainment, it was already dark by the time they came to their senses.

As night falls, New York City, the city that never sleeps, comes alive with even more vibrant energy.

For young men and women experiencing their first stirrings of love, the night is the best time to create miracles.

Especially when traveling, it provides an excuse to rest for one night in another place.

This is the perfect time and place!

Inside a hotel in Queens, New York.

"What? There's only one room left?" hope Nian frowned after asking at the front desk. He thought for a moment, then decisively took out his bank card and slammed it on the table: "Then let's book one!"

"Xinian, isn't this a bit too much?" Behind him, Gwen's ears were bright red; this was still too stimulating and daring for her.

"Senior." Kara shook hands somewhat awkwardly, looking like she wanted to say something but hesitated.

"What are you two thinking?" hope Nian scratched his head and arranged, "You two will stay here tonight. I'll go to the nearby streets and find another hotel to rest in."

The unexpected path and ending left the two beautiful girls dumbfounded once again.

The hotel receptionist, witnessing this scene, gaped, speechless.

Please, have some decency!

……

After settling his childhood sweetheart Gwen and junior Kara into their accommodations, Xinian breathed a sigh of relief. With his backpack, which occasionally revealed the head of a small orange cat, on his back, he walked along the street outside the hotel looking for a place to stay.

Under the cover of night, neon lights flicker.

The bustling streets are filled with traffic.

Xinian merged into the crowd and walked along the same street corner.

In the dark, damp, and foul-smelling alley, a puddle of stagnant water on the ground suddenly began to move on its own. The viscous, black, gelatinous liquid, as if now alive, rolled and silently moved to a dark corner, as if lurking and watching passersby on the street outside.

"Are there any human bodies that are suitable for parasitism?"

"I can't hold on much longer..."

The unidentified creature murmured in a restless, hoarse voice. It had no actual limbs or brain, only a mass of black liquid, and its words seemed to come from nowhere.

Just then, a boy carrying a schoolbag passed by on the street outside the alley.

The black liquid creature suddenly shifted violently, chasing after Xinian frantically and rapidly along the alley wall.

puff!

hope Nian, who was walking in the street, stumbled. He looked back in surprise and felt a gentle push on his back.

However, there was no one behind him.

"Is it just my imagination?" hope Nian muttered to himself. He didn't notice that inside the backpack he was carrying, a pair of cat eyes suddenly stared intently at a certain part of hope Nian's body.

quickly.

hope Nian found a second hotel not far from where Gwen and the others were staying. The hotel had a revolving door design. hope Nian reached out and pushed the revolving door, but just as he entered a hidden space inside the revolving door, his body suddenly trembled violently.

A strange feeling, emanating from within, filled my heart.

"What's going on?" Xinian opened his eyes wide in confusion. He looked at his hands in astonishment and saw that his body and the clothes he was wearing were melting rapidly, just like a snowman in summer! Countless black liquids dripped down, sticky and stringy, connecting to the body.

Gululu!

In an instant, Xinian dissolved into a pool of black liquid, falling to the ground along with his backpack!

The revolving door that perfectly separates the inner hotel from the outside street is in the cubicle.

A dark liquid rolled around on the ground.

Suffocation, oppression!

An unprecedented feeling surged through Xinian's mind and body.

Difficulty breathing? No, it's impossible to breathe!

In that instant, Xinian felt that he was not suited to live on this planet!

That's absolutely right, it was the power of the master of the family that was triggered—to the point that his body was also modified by some kind of transcendent power!

"If this continues, I'll die?" hope Nian lay on the ground like a boiling liquid, his whole body writhing restlessly.

"Meow!"

The meowing caught Xinian's attention. A small orange cat emerged from the zipper of the backpack that had fallen to the ground next to him.

It's the young emperor!

Xi Nian shuddered, as if driven by instinct. The black liquid he had transformed into lunged forward, enveloping the little orange cat and quickly merging with and attaching itself to the tiny cat's body!

Hotel reception.

"Welcome." The receptionist glanced up as the revolving door opened, only to be greeted by a small, entirely black cat.

"Where did this stray cat come from!" The receptionist quickly stepped forward to chase it away.

The black kitten paused for a moment, then quickly picked up the schoolbag from the ground and rushed out of the still-spinning doorway into the street.

On a bustling street.

As the black kitten suddenly rushed out of the hotel, pedestrians quickly made way, watching it disappear into the alley around the corner with its backpack.

A while later.

On the open-air rooftop of a five-story building.

With its backpack set aside, the black kitten stood on the rooftop railing, gazing blankly down at the neon-lit modern street below.
