And so, I became the third member of this family. I survived as a pet cat, and under the name Sakamoto Pharmaceuticals. Just barely clinging to life…

Chapter 5 Sakamoto the Cat Who Can't Take It Anymore

And so, as the King of Angels, the Prince of Demons, and Death's favorite toy (this isn't exactly a compliment, is it?!), I began a carefree and leisurely life in a house with only two girls.

As a cat, although it possesses some skills that normal cats don't have, such as talking and sucking blood, its daily routine is no different from that of a normal cat.

I woke up at noon, ate the breakfast Nana prepared for me, and played with the idle Professor for a while. I recognized the trap she set and then taught her a lesson. I went to bed promptly at 2 PM and slept until 6 PM. Afterwards, I ate the dinner Nana prepared for me and played with Nana and the Professor for a while more. I mainly watched how the Professor teased Nana. Then I went to bed promptly at 8 PM.

That's pretty much it.

Come to think of it, there doesn't seem to be any adult in this family. The professor is eight years old, and Nana is one year old (because they are robots, they look like they are fifteen or sixteen). They live in a rather dilapidated house and rely on government welfare.

Meanwhile, the doctor seems to be conducting some kind of research, which, if successful, could allow them to live the life of the wealthy.

Speaking of which, I'm quite curious about the doctor's research. I've never seen her do anything that seems like research. Every day when she opens her eyes, she's either eating snacks, drawing crayon pictures, or trying to prank me or Mina.

Of course, it could also be because I sleep too much every day, so I didn't see it.

To be honest, the reason I'm sleeping so intensely now isn't because I've become a cat and picked up all its bad habits. It's because I'm trying to mend my soul.

That day, I escaped from the underworld, and my entire spiritual body, refined over billions of years, was instantly destroyed. Only a small fragment remained. My current task is to use that small fragment as raw material to reshape a spiritual body.

Although the combat power of this created spirit form isn't very high—far inferior to my original one—it can still barely reach the level of an angel. Something is better than nothing.

That's about it.

And so, it was another clear, cloudless morning...noon. I briefly checked the strength of my soul. It was almost at the completion level. Only then did I open my eyes and wake up. I went to my bowl to eat breakfast.

"What did Nana prepare today? Tomato juice?" I muttered to myself as I walked over to the cat bowl.

empty.

"Huh? This, this is my most important breakfast?! Why is there nothing here?!"

"Hey! Kid! Do you even know—"

I searched the house thoroughly, but the little brat had vanished somewhere. Seriously, he's clearly a shut-in, spoiled brat. Can't he just stay home and behave himself?

So, hungry, I walked outside to get some sun. Then I'd figure out how to get food.

But after sunbathing for a while, you'll probably fall asleep again like before, right?

No, no, I'm so hungry right now, I probably won't be able to sleep.

As I thought this, I yawned and went outside.

Then I saw this scene:

It was an extremely simple, seemingly foolish trap. A wooden stick attached to a rope supported a bamboo basket, beneath which lay a few glistening, washed tomatoes. This was my vanished breakfast.

……

That brat...

Oh well, I'll just consider it a return gift for letting her take me in, and I'll reluctantly play with her for a little while.

As I thought this, I walked over helplessly, and then my canine teeth sucked into the tomato—immediately afterwards, the stick was pulled hard—and then it hit my soft abdomen hard.

Damn it, I didn't expect this trick, I really miscalculated...

"Hahahaha... I've been tricked, I've been tricked~" The doctor, who had been lurking nearby, ran out laughing.

"You bastard! Do you know how much this hurts?!" I yelled at him.

"Don't be so angry, how about a piece of chewing gum?" The kid laughed heartlessly, then reached out and pulled out a box with only one piece of chewing gum left.

"What are you doing? Do you think I'll forgive you for this?" Even though I said that, I still reached out my paw and grabbed the piece of chewing gum—and then I got caught by the clip that popped out.

"Ouch! Ouch! It hurts! I'm wiping my tears! What is this?! Take it off, take it off!!" I frantically shook my paws, trying to shake off the clamp. But I didn't succeed.

Hang in there, it would be terrible if you cried at a time like this. You would lose all your authority as an elder.

Thankfully, at that moment, Nana came over and removed the clip from me: "Well, Professor, don't always tease Mr. Sakamoto like that."

"Okay, I won't do it again." The doctor quickly admitted.

"Who would believe that?!" I shouted.

Just then, several scantily clad high school girls walked out from behind the door, seemingly discussing going to get ice cream. These cheerful-looking girls immediately caught the eye of Nana, who was dressed like a young married woman.

Judging from her expression, she seemed to really long for it.

"Hey, kid." I called out to the professor.

"What is it?" The doctor seemed unaware of this.

"Does that girl... want to go to school?" I asked.

"Huh?!" The professor immediately ran over and hugged Nana: "Nano, don't leave me..."

"What?" Nana asked, looking confused. "Who said I was leaving?"

"Sakamoto."

"...When did the labor and management ever say that?!"

"No, I'll stay by the Doctor's side for the rest of my life," Nana said.

"That's great." The professor hugged Nana. "So Nana won't leave here, right?"

"I'll be going to the supermarket to buy groceries in a little while."

"The PhD student is going too."

"No! We haven't finished the snacks at home, so we can't buy new ones." As a housewife living on government assistance, Nana is very clear about the household budget. Normally, even if I want to eat an extra strawberry, she'll argue about it for ages. But Nana is quite helpless with this little devil. As long as she makes a fuss, she'll most likely give up her principles.

"It's not for me to eat, it's for Sakamoto," the professor said.

"—Stop using me as a shield, okay?!"

"Mr. Sakamoto?!"

"—You believe everything she says?!"

Finally, Nana sighed and concluded, "In short, we don't have much money left for living expenses this month, so we have to be more frugal."

"Hey..." The professor looked very unhappy, then turned around and lashed out at me, "It's all your fault, Sakamoto."

"What does this have to do with me?!"

And just like that, the girl and the little devil left. I (the cat) was left alone in the house.

I'm free! It's been so long since I've had this opportunity. If I don't make good use of it and explore this family, wouldn't I be doing myself a disservice?

Speaking of which, the ability to create robots like Nana is quite impressive, even among the two high-tech worlds I've experienced. And he's only eight years old.

Who knows, there might be some unexpected gains.

Hmm, my strength has decreased too much lately. If I could find some high-tech weapons to arm myself, that would be a way to protect myself.

So I wandered around the room aimlessly. Then I found a wall that looked suspicious. When I tapped on it, it seemed to be hollow.

So there really is a trap?

Hehehe, it seems I'm still as sharp as ever.

So I pushed the wall open with all my might. It turned out to be a revolving hidden door.

What could it be? The combat suit worn by futuristic warriors? Or a capsule that grants superpowers? Or some kind of laser-guided weapon?

...a pile of hidden snacks.

Okay, sometimes this happens. You might catch boots or water bottles while fishing. Don't worry about it too much, hahaha...

And so, the adventure continued.

After a while, I found something that seemed to be a mechanism. This old-fashioned switch looked like it wouldn't press down no matter what I tried. And after trying it, it seemed like none of the furniture was related to it.

Yes, there must be a problem.

I circled around twice more, and then I noticed a line of extremely tiny words written in white correction fluid on the white switch. It was very difficult to see.

"To the right."

To the right?

Hmm, it should be that the switch is to the right.

That's right, it looks like a switch that you toss up and down. Actually, it only works when you toss it to the right. This kid is pretty clever with his toys.

So I stood on the table, tiptoed, and turned the torch switch to the right.

"Ahhhhhh!!!"

A current of electricity instantly shot through my body, and the intense pain almost sent me into shock.

Fortunately, I quickly moved the claw away. Otherwise, I would have gone into shock.

Damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it—even my Mikoto has never been able to electrify me! I swear, I'll make you pay! You brat!!!

Chapter Six: Am I really that weak?!

When Nana and that brat came back together, I found that in addition to the vegetables they were supposed to buy, Nana was also carrying a big bag of all kinds of snacks.

"...Um, didn't we say we weren't going to buy it for her?" I asked Nao.

"I lost to her..." Nana looked helpless. It seemed she had been thoroughly annoyed by the Doctor the whole way.

"I'm telling you, you little brat, it's about time you learned to control your desires, isn't it?"

"Okay, I'll learn."

"Who would believe that?! You have no manners or upbringing at all, always playing pranks. A brat like you just needs a proper upbringing!" I said, pacing back and forth on the coffee table.

"So, I've decided to become your guardian. After all, I'm the oldest person in this family." I said to myself smugly.

"Nano, what are we having for dinner tonight?"

"It's omelet rice, Doctor."

"Ah, I love omelet rice the most, hehehehe..."

"—Listen to me, you idiot!"
