Felix slowly caught up. "You're really fast. Oh? This is..." He looked at the boy on the screen. The boy blinked his light blue eyes, gave a bright smile, and reached out his hand to him.
Felix blinked and extended his hand as well, their hands seemingly clasped together.
"Flutter!"
An owl landed on the boy's hand, carrying a letter in its beak.
It was a brown parchment letter with an address written in dark green ink on one side and a wax seal and a coat of arms on the other. In the center of the coat of arms was a capital "H" surrounded by a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake.
On the passageway—
"This is?"
"The day I received my Hogwarts acceptance letter."
“That’s enough, Felix,” Nick Lemaître said softly, and the two returned to reality.
Chapter 300 Demonstration
Felix opened his eyes, as if he had just returned from another world. He looked at the old man on the bed, took a viewing mirror out of his pocket, and placed it beside him.
The scope started spinning, and a clear, pleasant musical sound rang out.
"This is—a spyglass?" Nick asked softly. "What's it for?"
The two had discussed this issue. He knew that Felix had found seven methods for making viewing mirrors in ancient books and had modified them into magical artifacts. He also offered many suggestions.
"It's just a prank. It can sense a person's body temperature and makes a sound when you let go of their hand."
The old man laughed: "If you hadn't told me, I might have had to think about it for a long time." He listened quietly for a while, then reached out and fumbled for the viewing mirror, and stopped talking.
"Albus...call Albus for me."
Felix waved his wand, and a silver light vanished. Soon, Dumbledore appeared in the doorway. He quickly went to the bedside, bent down slightly to examine Nick Flamel, and seeing that he was unharmed, Dumbledore visibly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Headmaster Dumbledore, you don’t think I’m going to do anything, do you?” Felix said with a strange expression. He was right there and could see everything clearly. There was no communication between the two; it was purely Dumbledore’s concern for Nick Flamel’s safety.
“You’re overthinking it, Felix,” Dumbledore said, straightening up and smiling.
Nicolas Flamel gripped the viewing mirror tightly with one hand, his voice trembling: "Ah, Albus—you bear witness, everything I have belongs—belongs to Felix Heap."
Dumbledore said in a deep voice, "I will respect your wishes, Nick."
"Felix—" The old man turned his gaze to Felix, straining his eyes to see the blurry figure through a layer of white veil.
“I’m here, Nick,” Felix said.
A golden key floated toward him. He opened his palm and let the key land on his hand; it still held the warmth of the old man's body.
“I hope—you won’t blame me, the setbacks of my youth—aren’t necessarily—bad things. I believe in you—cough cough!” Nicolas Flamel coughed violently, his eyes bulging, and he continued breathlessly, “I believe you will become—a legend of the new era—”
Dumbledore stared at Felix in astonishment. What had happened in the past half hour? Why would his old friend suddenly acknowledge him? A legend… Dumbledore could clearly sense the intense expectation contained in that evaluation.
Felix didn't avoid Dumbledore's probing gaze. He looked at Nick Flamel, somewhat dazed, as the old man finished speaking, breathing softly, and muttered his wife's name: "Perenaar..."
After a while, the viewing mirror in his hand suddenly started playing, and melodious music echoed in the small house.
The key in Felix's hand gleamed, and in that moment, he became the owner of this safe house. At the same time, a series of hidden addresses flowed through his mind.
……
Half an hour later, Felix and Dumbledore stood before a tombstone. At Nick Flamel's request, he was buried with his wife, Perenall, in a place filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers. Not far away was the first home Nick and his wife had lived after graduating from Beauxbatons School.
The two stood silently for a while, then Dumbledore cast a protective spell to conceal the clearing. Felix stretched out a finger and gently touched it; the air in front of him rippled like water.
The two strolled along a path—
“Would you like to talk, Felix?” Dumbledore said gently.
“I’m not that fragile,” Felix grumbled, “You should spend your time looking for Voldemort’s Horcruxes.”
Dumbledore smiled. "Ah, I have indeed been preoccupied with some trivial matters lately, and Tom has had quite a life and met a lot of people, but—" he winked mischievously, "I have found a useful clue."
"About the third Horcrux?"
"I suspect so. Perhaps it also holds the secret of a fourth Horcrux. I've booked a poor house-elf, but she's in very poor condition, so I need to hurry..."
Felix nodded, pondered for a moment, and couldn't help but ask, "Just how strong is Voldemort that you can't defeat him either, simply because Horcruxes can't be killed?"
“That’s part of the reason, but besides the Horcruxes, he was also a master of the Dark Arts, not to mention the various experiments he conducted on himself during the years he disappeared,” Dumbledore said calmly. “In his own words, he pushed magic to unprecedented levels.”
"It sounds a bit arrogant."
“Indeed, but I must admit there’s some truth to what he said,” Dumbledore said. “The above statement could be rephrased as, ‘He pushed certain forms of magic to unprecedented levels. And others—’”
"Very superficial?"
"Yes, forgive my bluntness... but it's pathetic ignorance."
Felix thought for a moment and tentatively said, "Lady Rowena Ravenclaw once said that she and the other three founders could be considered magical beings."
"Is that so?" Dumbledore said, without a hint of surprise in his voice.
“Felix, I can’t offer you much useful insight. When I was young, I did, for a considerable period of time, believe myself to be omnipotent… Magical creatures? That’s too modest, and I was far too arrogant back then.”
“So—” Felix held his breath, “you did indeed enter a strange state?”
Dumbledore smiled slightly. "I can give you a brief demonstration, of course, just a demonstration."
What should I do?
“Spell on me, but don’t make it too powerful. I need to remind you that the person standing in front of you is a centenarian.”
Felix was somewhat excited. This was the first time he had the opportunity to experience the magical prowess of Dumbledore, the most powerful wizard. He took a few steps back, straightened his body, pondered for a moment, and cautiously cast a level three Stunning Spell.
He looked at Dumbledore with expectant eyes. How was Dumbledore going to demonstrate another level of magic?
"Ding!"
The red light flew swiftly toward the opposite side like a shooting star. Dumbledore deftly extended his right hand, flicked his finger, and deflected the spell as if he were swatting away a fly.
He then nodded politely: "Thank you for your consideration for an old man like me. By your standards, this should be a level three spell? If it were any stronger, I might have made a fool of myself."
Felix looked at Dumbledore in amazement. He himself could withstand several Stunning Curses, but he keenly realized the difference between the two: his method was actually the Auror system of the Ministry of Magic, which targeted resistance to specific spells, while what Dumbledore did was much more magical.
He had a feeling that what stood before him was like a magical creature in Dumbledore's skin, such as a man-headed lion-bodied scorpion-tailed beast, whose skin, as far as he knew, almost universally repelled all known spells.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, you—"
"It's not as amazing as you think. I'm old, but I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. I have no doubt—just like Nick thinks—that you will go further than me in the future."
Felix knew that these words meant the end of the conversation, and he could only remember what had just happened and ponder it carefully when he had time.
"Are you going back to school, Headmaster Dumbledore?"
"I still have some things to take care of."
The two parted ways on a small hillside covered with pale yellow wildflowers. Felix, bathed in the glow of the setting sun, walked from the edge of the Forbidden Forest toward the castle. As he approached the castle gate, he heard hurried footsteps, but when he looked in the direction of the sound, there was nothing there.
“Oh, Professor, I’ve finally found you!” Hermione suddenly appeared out of thin air, panting, holding a mercury-like invisibility cloak in her hand.
Felix tucked his wand back into his sleeve. "What happened?"
“Sirius! You need to save Sirius, and Harry, Professor Lupin, and Snape,” Hermione cried out in horror, “A huge number of Dementors… they’re blotting out the sky!”
Chapter 301 Conversation in Hagrid's Hut
"Trapped on the covered bridge"
"Peter Pettigrew is here to capture Harry, along with another Death Eater!"
Sirius is injured!
Hermione stammered an explanation until Felix put his hand on her shoulder. "Calm down, Granger, I only have one question," he said, his eyes fixed on her, "Is it too late for us?"
Hermione blinked. "Oh," she stammered, "of course, that's why I came back. We have... about an hour left."
“Yes, you used the time-changer,” Felix said calmly. “Let’s talk as we walk. Where do you think we should go now?”
Hagrid's Hut!
Hermione answered without hesitation, and Felix nodded. He tapped Hermione on the shoulder with his wand, and she found herself completely immersed in her surroundings. The professor did the same, and she realized it was the effect of the Disillusionment Charm.
“If we want to do something, we have to hide ourselves first,” Felix said.
They hurried toward Hagrid's cabin, and Felix first asked him the question that concerned him most.
"Did you see the end result? I mean, did you witness the serious consequences, like... death?"
"No, I only saw them trapped on the covered bridge, with a large number of Dementors attacking them. The Ministry of Magic also dispatched a group of Aurors, as well as some students."
"Aurors from the Ministry of Magic? How did they get here?"
"That woman in the pink dress, Umbridge! She's the one who summoned the Dementors and notified the Ministry of Magic!" Hermione shrieked.
In the pumpkin patch behind Hagrid's hut, a hippogriff snorted, raising its head warily and sniffing the air.
“Bakbek, relax, we’ve met before,” a gentle voice said.
“Oh, it’s me, Hermione, I fed you.” It was a slightly trembling female voice.
Buckbeak stared blankly into the air. It recognized the owner of the voice but couldn't see the person, which made it stomp its feet on the ground in frustration.
The window of Hagrid's cabin suddenly opened, and a voice said, "Who's out there?" Then a furry head popped out of the window—it was Hagrid.
He glanced warily out the window. Felix and Hermione were hiding behind the giant pumpkin, and with the Disillusionment Charm concealing them, Hagrid could only see Buckbeak's agitated state. He called out towards the hippogriff, "Don't let strangers near, Buckbeak!"
Hagrid pulled his head back in, and his roar echoed from inside the house: "Explain yourself, Peter! Why did you hide in Ron's house for so many years and then lead the attack on Harry!"
A timid voice said, "No, it's not what you think. I'm worried about Harry. He's in danger... I have to get him out of the school!"
Lupin said in a gentle voice, “It’s strange, if I’m not mistaken, your friend who escaped was wearing a Death Eater’s hood.”
The timid voice stammered, "That was...that was a disguise..."
Outside Hagrid's hut, behind a large pumpkin, Felix asked Hermione, "Now you can tell me what happened."
Hermione organized her thoughts and said, "This afternoon, Harry came back from the Quidditch pitch. It was around five o'clock. Professor McGonagall had asked him not to train too late."
“I know about this, but you’re here too?” Felix asked, as far as he knew, Hermione wasn’t very interested in Quidditch training.
“Well, we made a promise. It was a serious mistake. We were going to visit Hagrid, and to avoid being discovered, I was to carry Harry’s Invisibility Cloak.”
Actually, Harry and Ron were just feeling very restricted and wanted to go chat with their friends, so they prepared in advance by using the Invisibility Cloak to conceal themselves.
